Are the duels too short? Fossle and Bob only had like 2 turns each before they died.

I'll probably switch to making a new thread once a week now, takes a lot of time to draw all these crappy pictures, especially when more than one npc duels.

I have recieved a bunch of replies suggesting I should swap to a preset deck for the protag but I'm very hesitant to do so.
I think it would make the quest less fun. The thread would contain more text dense posts providing card lists.
The overall freedom of the game will be reduced with a preset hand since there will only be 1 or 2 optimal decisions that can be chosen every turn the entire duel will basically be scripted. The posters will be pressing an 'advance text' button instead of playing.

I don't think it's too overpowered for the players hand to be made completely out of wild cards bacause the NPCs also have the same advantage. In face the players have to declare the identity of their traps/quickplays when they're set but the NPC traps are wild (although I usually have a specific trap in mind).
If the duel is going to be won sooner than I want it to I can give the NPC kuribohs/hanewatas and that's only necessary when they have no facedowns or cards in the graveyard with an unknown identity (eg: necro gardna). Even if the player makes somesort of combo that prevents the NPC from using any card effects I can still just go "lol I summon Lava Golem."

I prefer asspulls deck. That way, sky's the limit with the sick combos we can pull. Besides, NPC are subject to the same rule of having random cards that vaguely follows a theme.

How about we have a "Deck" stat? How it would work is all previously established cards would be one point. Any unspent points could allow us ass-pulls, but at the cost of one point each. That also goes for copies of cards. If we previously established having MST, then rip out another one in the same match, that's one spent point for registering the card.

Going to the card shop/winning booster packs would give us more deck points.

I could make a list of cards you're allowed to use in a paste bin. 3 lists, for monsters, spells and traps sorted in alphabetical order with ~20 cards each.
But I think it's a bit tedious for players to have to consort the list.
Rules and mechanics are a necessary evil but I still prefer to use them as little as possible.

We definitely need to limit what cards are actually in our deck. I like the idea of forcing us to play themes. It's in keeping with the show. Fire seems to be our theme right now, but maybe we'll be forced to switch to another theme by arbitrary rules. "Your cards aren't welcomed in this tournament turtle-whore!"

Deck points would be a good way to represent heart of the cards bullshit.

Yeah, I'll just make it so you can only use FIRE themed cards and basic utility support cards and cards that were bought in game. Anything else requires Fate points, cost depending on: how op the card is, how much you're winning/losing by, and how many turns have elapsed.

Fate points seem like a large side deck of unnamed cards that we can pick from mid-fight.

The Points need to be restored after battles, either partially (we keep the cards that were 'bought' for a day) or entirely.
