Welcome back! You are elves of several varieties of color living harmoniously in a communist society on a large floating island.

In the last thread you have begun to make good on your promise to help the human captain Roderick rid the nameless island below of it's demon infestation. You have taken most of your able bodied population and mounted your giant falcons and ridden to war for the first time.

In a rush of wings and fury your people fly towards the demon occupied beach. As you draw swiftly closer the men let their jaws hang slack and issue a sound that neither human nor elven throats should be capable of producing. As the piercing ululation echoes across the beach your people open fire with their bows.

Each shot is precise, even those among you who are not hunters are familiar enough with the practice to easily fire at one or even two of the men on the beach in your first pass.

Every arrow finds its way cleanly into an eye socket or other vital spot. But contrary to what you expect the men do not drop dead, and their cry only increases in intensity.

As your first flight group circles around for another pass you clearly see several of your people get jerked from their falcons by some invisible force! Unseen claws tear at flesh and cloth alike as the hapless elves hang in midair while their MegaFalcons screech and hover around them frantically clawing and biting at thin air.

The second flight group has orders to swoop down and grab the undying men so they can be dashed to pieces from a great height, but you aren't sure if they will make it in time.

A quick glance shows you that ten of your people are so caught and you have a decision to make.

>focus your fire on the demon possessed men on the shore.

As your first strike force rushes to help the captured elves invisible attackers claw and bite at them. Unseen hands with the wrong number or position of fingers press rudely into flesh and tear wildly at hair and clothing alike.

>1d100 dc 80 to use magic to repel the invisible demons

Meanwhile the second strike group swoops down to capture the demonic fishermen, only to have the men actively run towards them eager to close the distance between the two.

Under those conditions the two score demons are easily captured by your forces and flown aloft. However, the demon possessed men seem to have no care for their lives or safety and begin wildly attacking your megafalcons with their teeth and belt knives. In many cases it becomes difficult even to drop the wretched creatures as they grimly hang on to your companions with their teeth.

>1d100 for melee combat dc 70

The human forces from the Spirit of Adventure begin to make landfall and set up firing lines as fishermen rain from the sky. many of the blasphemous horrors fall onto rocks or from great height and are dashed to pieces, but one of every five lands on the comparatively soft sand of the beach ruining their bodies, but apparently not killing them outright. As they dementedly crawl or limp towards the Human forces Captain Roderick directs the first boatload of human forces to fire upon the demons.

Demons

>Imps

The least significant, lowest ranking, and most numerous of all the demonic ranks in the other-worldly planes are the demons known as imps.

While there is no set form that typifies an imp, they all share a single minded, overriding hatred of all other forms of life, including other demons. This hatered most often manifests itself as a prodigious hunger which is the hallmark of possession by an imp.

Said possession is extremely rare as even novice demonologists are usually more than strong enough to overwhelm the feeble willpower of an imp. Care must be taken to avoid summoning the foul creatures in any large numbers as they will of a certainty act in concert to destroy, and consume a summoner.

The bite of an imp or one possessed by an imp is incredibly foul and almost certain to becone inflamed and cause fever. Victims of imp bites are best treated through a combination of prayer and leeches both in liberal quantity.

Natural possession by imps is very rare. Usually the sinner must be guilty of extreme gluttony and cowardice in amounts which are difficult for the average citizen to obtain without drawing undue notice from his local clergy.

As always the perilous nature of the Demon Seas often allows these unnatural predators access to hosts which they crave. Any sailors upon those perilous waters should speak with a preist if they feel any surges of hunger or frustration. And, as is always good advice, men of simple means should place faith in their prayers.

Ever concerned for the safety of your people hunt leader Erashia Far-Fallen orders your casters to dispel whatever foul curse holds them aloft while his hunt party precariously hover beneath the captives to catch them when they fall. Your casters begin trying to identify the threat and neutralize it. All is going well until Caslaan Tense-Arms dies in midair. After that point everything starts to go to hell. Tense-Arm's Mega Falcon goes from frantic to berserk attacking everything nearby while screeching in pain and grief. His talons and wings severely injure several of the other captives before he begins dive bombing your casters and their Falcons. Within seconds the first strike force is in pandemonium, two more of the captives die, whether from demonic activity, berserk MegaFalcons, or friendly fire is uncertain.

>The first strike force is in disarray
> roll 1d100 dc 50 to restore order

Meanwhile above the beach your second group of flyers is dealing with an equally deadly problem. It seems that the demon possessed fishermen aren't very keen on being dropped to their deaths on the rocky beach below. The savage madmen hang on to your MegaFalcon's talons with teeth, belt knife, hands, or whatever is available to them. Even as the first cries of pain erupt from the throats of your steeds the hunt leaders are already ordering their troops into action. On their leaders orders each elf whose falcon still holds a captive abandons their relatively safe position to climb down their bond mate to their legs and force the demonic men to drop. While the embattled elves kick frantically at the demons the rest of their troops line up shots that the best human snipers would despair of. Within moments the last of the vile enemy forces falls to the ground below followed quickly by dozens of arrows pinning them dead or alive to the beach.

The main bulk of the men from the Spirit of Adventure begin landing below shoring up the wavering firing lines of the human forces. A quick glance shows that whatever invisible force is harassing your people is also attacking the men. Gashes appear from nowhere on any exposed flesh and at least one man regrets his prayers as unseen hands attempt to rip out his exposed tongue.

Let's send for the priest. This is his speciality, not ours.

sorry for the massive delay.

>success

Acting both decisively and swiftly your hunt leaders bark out orders to their comrades, quickly restoring a semblance of order to the first strike group. While your best beastmasters calm the agitated birds their riders pull back into formation. Erashia Far-Fallen leans far out from his normal perch atop his MegaFalcon and fires three shots in rapid succession. Each arrow flies unerringly into a vital spot on one of the rampaging birds, silencing their anguished screams.

Even as the once graceful creatures plummet to the beach below riders are called off to fetch the priest still riding towards the shore with a separate detachment of troops.

He is not hard to find. Standing prominently at the prow of his boat and reading loudly from his ever present metal bound book Raza strikes an imposing figure. An image that is somewhat ruined when, lacking the time and language for niceties, a sky rider simply plucks the robed man from his place in a graceful dive. To his credit the holy man does not issue any of the shrieks or curses of the acolytes he has left behind, but merely prays louder and in a more frantic manner.

While the last of the human forces make landfall your fellow elves are tormented by horror still unseen. many of your people are beginning to complain of "shadows" in the corner of their vision. A few of the younger elves are muttering or laughing to themselves though no one is talking to them.

As the chanting priest draws nearer the things holding your people become partially visible. Long shadowed figures twist in impossible ways their forms drifting in and out of reality like ethereal smoke. As Raza's intonations solidify them they seem to lose interest in tormenting your people, dropping them like broken toys to focus on the aggravating prayers.

The second strike group reports movement in the nearby village, but they aren't close enough to make it out clearly.

>scout the village

Quick thinking saves the lives of your people as Far-Fallen bellows orders even while diving to catch a falling elf. Your people are in no condition to fight, but at least they are safe.

Retreating from the otherworldly creatures towards the human formations brings an odd reaction from the disembodied demons.

At first they follow, dissapearing only to reappear closer or in front of your forces.
The half present demons seem to delight in tormenting the preist. They pay little heed to damage inflicted to them, and many times a perfectly aimed arrow will simply pass through a solid looking eye cluster or talon whip.

As you near the chanting acolytes however, the demons hesitate. Eventually the mass prayers are too much for the spirits and they depart. You are left to count your dead and bandage your wounded in peace for now. The beach is littered with the corpses of men with the odd elven form crumpled amidst them.

>You have lost 6 population, 3 captives and 3 from fighting

> 7 of your people are incapacitated

Landing behind the human lines your hunt leaders confer with Captain Roderick about what to do next. The captain seems a bit distracted as he speaks, but there is good reason as many of the humans are acting oddly, and if you were to be honest some of the elves are acting strangwly as well.

The captain explains that he and his men can easily clear the nearby village. He seems confident of his ability to wipe out any resistance within. He urges you to take the acolytes and preist to the temple up north ans end this sooner rather thsn later.

>agree

>split your forces so he will have some support, but take the majority north

>the temple can wait have everyone clear the village

I agree with the Roderick. There's no point dragging this out more than necessary.
>>
>>766586
Also, leave some of the non-hunters to take care of the incapacitated elves.

>>766586

Once your people agree with the captain's plan both races make quick preparation towards its execution. Those who are too wounded to continue fighting are called off of their formation, many of them having not realized the extent of their injuries due to shock or stress.

As your hunt leaders reorganize flight groups that have been broken up the sound of an argument sounds clearly from the Human lines.

Several of your diplomats look over to the argument in shock. After a moment or so they calm down, but still seem agitated.

>ask them whats wrong

>it isn't important right now

Moments later a clearly unhappy Raza walk over to your forces trailing all but five of the acolytes.

Motioning to one of his younger acolytes causes the man to nearly drop his holy implements in his hurry to rush forwards.

The young man seems nervous to be speaking in front of all of you, more so as every elf and most of their falcons are regarding him intently.

In Elven that is better than usual for a human he begins speaking.

"We, ah- I mean the captain. Yes Captain Roderick requests- ahem... formally requests the honor of being carried- no wait that isn't right. Please lift us to where we need to go. Our thanks to your clan will be big."

After discussing among yourselves for a few moments while the acolytes wait you eventually decipher this to mean that they want you to carry them to the temple.

The Mega falcon is the apex predator of your region easily capable of swooping down and plucking even large creatures off the ground and disemboweling them with their razor sharp beaks. The truth of this is obviously not lost on the more nervous acolytes, many of whom chant their prayers just a little more loudly in their immediate proximity to the birds.

While your people try various methods of carrying the diplomat Potunid Ready-Hand explains what he overheard.

"I think the preacher human wants to kill those of us who were injured by the demons. The Captain told him no in a very firm manner, but i could not say why. He had a very long reason, they both did. I- I am sorry I couldn't understand more. I have failed our people, our race, our ancestors must consider me a short eared luaghing stock"

His words putter away into self recriminations muttered to himself whilg pulling harshly on his ears. Even his megafalcon takes the occassional nip at him.

This place is not good for your people's minds clearly.

After som experimentation is is decided that the acolytes will hang from the giant, flesh tearing, predatory talons of your companions. Raza quickly stifles any complaining and is the first to step up to be carried.

As Captain Roderick and his men begin making their way towards the village your Megafalcons take to the air.

The island that spreads out below you appears normal up to a point. Beyond that is a scene possibly literally from [hell]. In an instant the verdant forested hills making up the core of the island give way to a barren wasteland. Creatures whose flesh appears to have stretched or melted into form roam aimlessly while feasting on one another. In some places the land itself is predatory, and it is not uncommon for the ground to stare longingly at your group as you pass.

Even the sky is not safe from this corrupting influence. It turns from a normal blue to a color reminiscent of sick flesh, and unwholesome things press against the air yearning to be free. The whispers of the trapped things rise and fall in volume like a slow heartbeat, following some unseen conductor. With every crescendo of noise the pressure around you bears down.

As you fly north the sensation grows steadily worse. And at last you see why. Flanking the temple on either side are two massive pits reaching directly to whatever horrid hell dimension brought forth these horrors.

Something akin to a massive infinite-legged spider is desperately trying to squeeze its miles thick bulk through the farther portal, as its legs skitter and gouge the earth all around the portal countless demonic spirits slip through the gaps in its legs into the world. From the nearer portal a dark grey river of ooze worms its way across the land. As you loom at it, it looks back at you. Thousands of still moving eyes float in the rotting aqueous humor of whatever wounded monstrosity is the source.

Alright, we will not interfere with human disputes. However, we will take care of every wounded elf.

Let's use our druidic magic and/or our water magic. If we all try to grow trees on and around the portals, we might be able to shut them down, or at least plug them up for a while. Perhaps we can wash away some of the eyes. Clear the area as well as possible then rush between the two horrors.

First day off work

As your forces line up to rush the gap between the two massive hell portals Caslaan Wind-Song begubs a spell of epic proportions.

Calling on the currently dormant seeds scattered throughout the land Wind-Song forces them to begun growing. As she feeds the growth with water pulled up from the depths weeds vines and trees begin to choke the portals.

Seeing this you all begin flying for the temple, confident that your trick has worked. But as you pass the glowing hell pits Wind-Song cries out in pain and horror. Even as she falls unconscious onto the back of her falcon your people are peppered by thousands of fragments of burning plant matter as both portals explode in a mass of demonic hellfire.

There, standing on the soot blackened steps of the profaned temple is a gangly unattractive human from whose brow portrude two massive black horns.

The aura of hatred and vileness rolling of of the formerly human boy is oppressive dampening your spirits and disrupting your organisation.

It seems you have found the demons leader.

However on one side of you the bloated spider creature has begun clawing its way around to look at you, and on the other the river of eyes is bunching itself into a most unpleasant knot of fluids
