What happens when a dungeon keeper and adventurer fall in love?

That is the shorty story of it and So the tale of this forbidden romance continues.

Avis the Adventurer is now currently lost in a haunted forest full of evil elves after a mishap involving teleportation spell. His only company is the variant Death Knight Mosley who was suppose to guide our young hero to a potential teacher. Mosley as it turns out is quite the badass and has already saved Avis's life when they got ambushed by the trees and undead.

Meanwhile the panicking fiance of Avis pressures the lich Molly and her dungeon heart Vek into finding them. Unfortunately for her the trees just as they blocked Avis's compasses have also blocked her attempts to locate them.

"Rotguts? Back when I knew them they were made up of a bunch of plague doctors, scum sorcerers, and disease druids. Even had quite a few necromancers and their ilk due to his close relationship to his...former wife?"

"Honestly i don't know if they are still married or not ever since she went fullblown lich."

"Anyway they are an odd group with an...unhealthy interest in decay, disease, fungi, rot, and death. The Rotguts are much meaner then their boss and they respected his honey because she was just as bad if not worse then him. Its also due to her influence that the rotgut acquired a taste for necromancy, death, and undead."

"Bunch of real evil bastards. Even other evil druids tended to shy away from their druids of decay."

"Plague and Disease eh? Well, I know just the thing."

Open up our Jar of Bug Holding, and pull out some of those big giant bugs from Nova's place, and leash them with capture chains.

They're familiar with the smell of rotting and disease and fungi stuff from Nova's dungeon surely.

"Okay boys, sniff out the smell of disease and rot. Go get em boys, sniff em good!"

You suddenly get hit with a brilliant idea. Nova's dungeon is full of fungus right? there was also that one strange grave room...and it was also a bug warren yes?

SO shouldn't the bugs be familiar with it enough to follow it back? With that idea in mind you released the bugs and chain them before letting them go. After that you and Mosley followed behind with you basically walking them like a dog.

It took a little bit before they got their bearings but after that they headed in what you think and hope is the right direction. It took awhile before you noticed any differences but they came with the trees looking increasingly overgrown and sickly instead of dead/haunted.

So it does look like your finally headed in the right direction...albeit rather slowly.

Hmph. All this walking around is tiring.

Let's make it faster!

"Hey Mosley, you ever heard of those guys from waaaaaay up north who tie sleds to dogs in the snow?

Or how about witches?

I have ANOTHER idea!"

Give Mosley our Seeker Scythe

Ourselves, we use the Seeker Halberd.

Ride them like half-sled/half hoverboard as we chain our bugs to em.

"Hey Mosley you getting tired of walking?"

"The dead do not tire unlike the liv-oh that's right you ain't dead."

"...yeah fuck you too Mosley. What I mean is you ever heard of those who tie sleds to dogs in the snow up north?"

"Yes what of it?"

"Well you know about witches and those levitating stuff?"

"Yeah. Why?"

"Well you see i have an idea," you say as you bring out the seeker equipment. "This stuff floats!"

Sometime after this you had crudely wrangled together and made a sort of sled/board that floats while getting pulled ahead by the bugs.

"MUSH!"

"I am finally beginning to see why Nova likes you so much."

"What you didn't think my good looks were not enough?"

"..."

"Well fuck you too Mosley. Why the hell did Molly think was so great about you then huh?"

"How many times do I gotta say we never dated."

"Yeah I still don't believe you."

"Just ask her yourself."

"Yeah I don't believe her either."

"...really now?"

"Yeah."

"Now you lost me..."

"Oh god you two are fucking oblivious please tell me you weren't like that while alive."

"Oh how did you know we knew each other while we were alive still?"

You very nearly fell off the sled when you heard that.

"FUCK...holy shit you two are the most perfect oblivious couple ever."

"How many times do I gotta say it. We never dated."

"You know Mosley..."

"yeah?"

"Yeah...I get that a lot for some reason."

"And yet you still haven't figured it out..."

"How am I suppose to understand how the living feel?"

"Didn't they say the same thing while you were still alive?"

"...Ah that is true."

"So. Why haven't you figured it out then?"

"hm...don't remember. I just figured there was something wrong with everybody elses heads.

"No...Mosley its only your two heads that are messed up."

"How many times do I have to say we aren't a couple. Never were."

You know Mosley couples don't only date."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah its part of courting. Couples court each other as a means of vetting to determine whether or not they are worth a longer term and or more serious relationship like marriage."

"Oh is that so? Then why are you and Nova already getting married?"

Doh...that is true. It seems you underestimated Mosley... such a low blow Mosley. Seriously.

"Well...you see we uh are in love. TRUE LOVE...so that sorta stuff is unnecessary when your love is true."

"Why don't other couples react that same way then hm?"

"...Well true love is rare."

"You sure its true? Aren't you as they say...rushing things?"

"Well...um...yeah but that is okay if its true love." Fucking Mosley he totally managed to turn this around on you.

"So...you trying to say we are a 'couple' despite not dating and not loving each other?"

"Mosley the way you two act together is like an old couple. Your not getting passed me like that."

"An old couple? How can we be so?"

"Old couples don't exactly date much anymore Mosley. Its more of a remembrance thing."

"...We never dated."

At this point your having to struggle to not strangle him. You end up not going for it because its pointless due to him being dead. That was when you heard a new voice.

"Yeah that's not going to work on him," butts in the new guy.

"Who..." you begin looking up as Mosley says.

"About time one of you showed up. It gets annoying whenever someone tries to convince one of us that we are a couple."

"I personally like to think of you two like an amnesiac couple who been together so long that have forgotten about being together yet at the same time have forgotten what its like when they weren't together," finishes the extremely pale elf.

My god...that actually describes them perfectly. Amazing. who is this guy?

"Anyway what is one of you rotguts doing on our forest? We made an agreement with you bastards. What you deciding on reneging on our agreement?"

"Moron. If you know me then you know I am with Lich Molly and not a rotgut. Hence I am not beholden to any such binding agreements."

"Mosley your really no fun you know that?"

"So what do you really want?"

"Well I obviously noticed intruders like yourselves. Your lucky I am the closest to notice. Otherwise things would of gotten ugly..."

"For your side not ours."

"Yeah...exactly. I am well aware of your history Mosley the Mass Murderer."

"I imagine that memory comes with those long lives of yours."
>>
Rolled 82 (1d100)

>>639174
"Yeah it does but its been a long time even by our standards. So what the hell you doing here anyway Mosley?"

"Escorting the kid over there to Gulgix himself. He has a talent for those special fucked up magics the rotguts are so fond of."

"No shit? Why the HELL did you think it a good idea to use our woods as a shortcut! Come on Mosley I know you know better."

"Because Cursed Fair Folk is of no concern to me so why not?"

"Because why you can say that your little friend there...not so much."

"Also because our teleportation spell fucked up," finishes Mosley.

"Well...you got kinda close. Sort of but wow did you have bad luck to end up in such a dangerous area as this. Even you wouldn't make it out of here intact Mosley."

"..."

"So...how do you two know each other?"

"Its a long story. Suffice it to say our Queen has a history with his wife's sister and husband."

"...Wife?"

"Molly."

"NO FUCKING WAY THOSE TWO ARE MARRIED...which actually honestly doesn't surprise me like at all.Seriously I even saw that coming...Wait. a second goddamn MOSLEY you even said you weren't a couple!"

"They even had kids," says the freakishly pale elf pouring more oil onto the fire. Seriously you seen corpses with more color.

"...who says the marriage wasn't arranged," says Mosley defending himself.

"That doesn't explain the fucking kids," you hissed.

"Yeah real funny Mosley. We still remember what happened when someone hit on Molly. We are still digging up bones of those you murdered."

"...Fuck I hate you so much now Mosley."

"You should of seen what happened with Molly when Mosley died!"

"Thanks a lot asshole...now Nova is going to find out," mutters Mosley.

"Shit where you two been hiding out anyway? Sure thought you two would of come out when your kids died...oh is that a sore spot I see?"

"okay now even I gotta admit that was low and dickish," you say.

"Yeah remember like it was yesterday seeing how your daughters were raped and defiled before the eyes of your tortured sons as they were forced to watch! They all died quite the excruciating deaths...alongside those of your order," continues the Elf.

Okay you gotta admit. You hate that fucking elf even more then Mosley. While Mosley is indeed a thick dead dick but damn if he doesn't stoop that fucking low.

"Yeah you both weren't there to protect or avenge them now were you? They killed the children too you know. Including your grandchildren...yet you did nothing, but hide behind the skirt's of your wife's big sis," laughed the elf as he finishes.

You swore you could see some unholy lights of rage flare up in Mosley's eye sockets.

"What you think to get revenge? Too bad the ones responsible are long dead...along with their kingdoms. You ain't gonna get nothing."

"You shouldn't try to anger me Elf. The wrath of the dead isn't something your kind can endure. Besides who says I don't have plans?"

"Hah nice try even if your plans were very long term. They all would of long since happened."
>>
Rolled 46 (1d100)

>>639304
"Hm...true if it involved only the living," states the glum Mosley seriously.

That surprised even the elf. "Oh...now that IS hardcore. I gotta admit I think we all underestimated you again after all...didn't think you would have that sorta thing in mind...but you know how are gonna get into hell hm? Or better YET those under the protection of their gods in the heavens! You ain't got shit Mosley."

"...You think that is going to stop me," asks Mosley as a strange demonic aura and smell begins to overpower even that of his thick decaying stench. "I AM going to break down the heavens and butcher their false gods. I AM going to drag their souls screaming from hell wishing they would return for the fate I have in store for them. I am going to burn and salt their lands destroy it all so COMPLETELY it will be nothing but cursed wasteland that even the dead would not tread. I AM going slaughter their FUTILE defenders in a great orgy of violence and made examples of them so completing even DEMONS will RETCH upon the sight. I AM going to collect their people for a single grand mass sacrifice and make them WATCH each other for what shall be done to them for their deaths shall not be swift or painless so as to make it TRULY grand! Their descendants I shall collect and make them watch for their very SPECIAL treatment that I have in store JUST for them! IT shall be nothing more then an appetizer...for what i will have in store for them. They will BEG to be dragged into hell, for their very DREAMS to be destroyed, for mercy, but NONE of it shall come true. To SPARE others for they have NOTHING to do with this! They shall say and beg."

I shall reply with but a single word and say...NO. For they did not do the same."

"this I WILL do and NOTHING shall stop me!"

"So tell me elf...do you wish to continue?"

"...yeah alright I will admit we most definitely underestimated you...again. We'll uh...I just um...guide you out personally! Okay? So...no need to do anything okay?"

With that the overpowering demonic aura and rage vanished completely from Mosley...as if it was never there to begin with.

"So you can still feel rage, then.

Just tell me one thing, and it's not meant to piss you off, did you deserve it?"

If "Yes" then tell him it's just shit luck, but we understand an eye for an eye. That whole turn the other cheek bullshit is for those that've never truly been wounded or didn't have anything worthwhile in the first place.

If "No" then tell him to come find us before he goes off on his thing. We're just one measly adventurer now, but we won't always be and we'd gladly support our undead ghastmuncher bro.

"...Still feeling emotions like rage isn't a good thing. Being undead always warps what emotions you got left. Better off not having them I think. The rage I feel...is different then what I felt when I was still alive and not in the good way."

"Back then all of that? No I will admit to not being the greatest person in the world considering I killed people. I am a Knight we had a reputation to maintain and honor to keep not to mention the order i was part of isn't a big fan of going too far. Not to mention I was a much better person back then compared to now. That was until I died and got a demonic soul. Being undead isn't good for the morals due to how undeath twists your feelings and effects thought. Acquiring that demonic soul even less so."

"I don't think that is a very good idea kid. I am already damned, you not so much. Being damned isn't a good thing. Being undead tends to mean being damned by default. Comes with the whole not staying properly dead."

"No, if you were I would never have bothered helping you in the first place. Your precious Nova isn't either so no need to worry."

"Good to know."

"You really do need to figure out your relationship by the way. Not many relationships can survive so dynamically opposed individuals. Nor does it help you both go on rather lengthy...separations. Not to mention the whole getting hitched so quickly."

"What you going to list all the fucking flaws in my relationship?"

"They are things you must consider. True Love or not."

"...yeah well what can I do?"

"Exactly. Truth be told Nova isn't much better. You act more like fuck buddies then partners or lovers."

"...That is rich coming from you."

"You ever thought why we worked out? Despite the not dating?"

"..." Actually that is a very good point.

"Its because we work well together kid and otherwise do our own thing. The whole arranged marriage bit? Pretty sure that came later. Honestly it really wasn't that big a change. So it ended up working rather well. Admittedly though we didn't have this whole 'true love' thing."

"Is that why you still worked so well even as undead?"

"Probably. The whole undeath thing wasn't able to fuck over what we had going because it was never a real reason for us to begin with. So we got away with it."

"..."

"Another thing kid...how well do you know Nova?"

"Well...not well to be honest."

"...Yet you claim to be in true love? Sounds more like youthful foolish love to me."

"...I killed friends and comrades for her already."

"Well ain't that bitch...your Nova kid? She isn't a good person. Not by a long shot."

"How do you know?"

"...Unlike you I actually know her. Even when she was just a child kid that evil leaked out. You I can tell your a decent kid so I am warning you. If you don't get tough and hold your ground...she is going to devour you and when she spit you back out you wont recognize yourself in the mirror...what will stare back at you will haunt you kid."

"Sounds like you know a thing or two."

"I been around a LONG time. Your not the first two I saw who had that dynamic going."

"what happened with them?"

"Someone if not both would always break if they didn't breakup kid. Only exception being if the two reached an understanding. You two haven't reached that understanding yet...eventually someone is going to break and my money kid is on you."

Hmm. He does raise some very good points.

Let's consider for a second, our end goals.

We want to become a good adventurer.

Presumably, she wants to become a good Dungeonmaster.

Yes, that is exactly opposite. And while we've sworn to not let it come in between us. . .it doesn't exactly aid us in getting together.

There's not yet a lot of synchronicity and indeed, we DO go on long voyages in the pursuit of our own power while she does for her own needs as well.

Hmmm, indeed, we are . . .kind of really like fuck buddies.

>>639892
"I'd. . .like to thik it's true love Mosley.

But even if it isn't. . .I'd at least like to marry her. And be true.

How many humans live and die in the time you've been undead? Dozens? Hundreds?

Remember that we are separated from you in that we the living are on a time limit. We only get to see and breathe the world for a short amount of time, then we die.

People get married all the time. Some people marry persons they hate or are forced into it, others marry the person they love. I can't think off the top of my head any that 'lived happily ever after' but quite a lot of people have lived through marriages pleasant or otherwise.

I've given my life to Nova. . .and even now that I think of it, maybe I should actually spend more time with her before I die. True love or not, if I marry her it will be for life, this I vow. So that when we're old and frail, and our time nears an end, we have at least spent our life together. And maybe we can smile back on it that day.

...I need to work on the together part admittedly..."

The Genie has very much improved in writing over time. Quests are nice because they focus more on details and interpersonal stuff then the big picture civs.

Civs are amazing if you wanna work at big picture. I had previously run into problems expanding my skills in that area until. Civs are admittedly harder to write for then quests if I wanna do it well. There is a LOT more stuff to keep track of.

>>640134
You decide to make camp as you think its getting late(hard to tell in this forest frankly) and after getting burned by Mosley you wanna sleep on it. Fortunately the elf remained nearby ensuring a large degree of safety. Combine that with Mosley it will take an adult dragon to cause any problems.

So you soon had an oddly cold fire burning as you took out some old rations to gnaw bits off of. That was when you also gave in and asked Mosley for advice.

"...You two have to reach an understanding and kid you need to become much more steadfast. One way or another being with together with Nova is going to fling a LOT of shit your way. Both from her and the 'side effect' of being together with her."

"What is most important is reaching a mutual understanding. A mutual understanding goes a very long way."

"As for problems regarding that relationship...well there are going to be problems within and without. Your two dynamically opposed individuals who often go on lengthy trips and THAT is just the beginning of what is within..."

"As for without...well an adventurer and dungeonkeeper couple are obviously going to have a LOT of problems coming from others. hah so much so I can't even easily list a few!"

Meanwhile with Nova...

"So...can't I just you know give him jobs as an excuse to be together more?"

"So you wanna gigolo? Nova if you just wanted one of those we could of hired one ages ago..."

"Fuck not like that like together together..."

"What proof do you have your not just fuck buddies?"

"Um...we are getting married."

"Correction, stupid fuck buddies."

"I am NOT stupid!"

"Then stop acting like a stupid horny girl."

"Well...how about I force us to stay together?"

"And break him? What then would you still love the broken correction changed him?"

"...Other way around?"

"Would he then still love you? More importantly how about yourself?"

"...Fuck your playing dirty Molly not fair! Stop having such good points...I can't win like this."

"Why that is the point."

"Stop being like JAL. I can actually afford to get angry at him..."

"That is also the point," interrupts JAL. "It obviously wouldn't work if it was coming from me instead."

"...Well then what ARE my options you two?"

"..."

"..."

"Really?"

"The problems aren't small," says JAL.

"Obviously its something you two have the understanding of...together," explains Molly.

"Then how about solutions instead?"

"..."

"Well JAL you should have something right? I don't anything," says Molly.

"Honestly also don't have much..."

"Then what DO you have," asks Nova.

"...Nova remember how most dungeon keeper romantic relationships work?"

"Well last time you said it was a mindrape possibly two if it includes the dungeon ke-oh COME ON. There HAS to be something else right?"

"..."

"Right?"

"..."

"Please Vek?"

"..."

"Pretty please?"

"..."

"Pretty please with a I'll help you get payback on Avis on top?"

"NOW your talking my language girl! Well that assuming its unhealthy and the dungeonkeeper wishes to go through with it anyway..."

"So?"

"Otherwise its exactly like any other healthy relationship!"

"GODDAMN IT VEK THAT DOESN'T COUNT!"

"Wow Vek you really are talented at getting her angry," notes Molly to the side as Nova starts her tantrum.

"Yeah that is because i am the only one who can survive it," brags Vek as Nova continues said tantrum.

"What about Avis then Vek?"

"Oh him? Unless he is like his friend Hoz...oh he will wish it was so! "

"Why ho-oh I get it now. Two healers...literally sadistic girlfriend. Hah funny Vek."

"Its true though. You should of seen the condition he was in one time WITHOUT the anger."

"...That bad?"

"Oh yeah. Nova is just smart enough to vent it when Vek isn't around. Dude is FUCKED the moment he personally makes her angry though! LITERALLY even! Gods I can't WAIT to watch that happen..."

"Didn't realize you were such a voyeur Vek."

"Oh honey ALL of my kind are. Comes with the life no escape except death." Shortly after that Nova finally calmed down.

"Okay...so how does that work then," asks Nova with silence the only response.

"Oh come on Molly at least you should have something!"

"Is your relationship anything like ours?"

"...Point taken. Vek?"

"I am going to need that promise kept...and another helping on top of that?"

"So you want me to screw over my boyfriend twice?"

"Oh don't worry I'll even take it literally!"

"...Deal."

"Perfect...just perfect."

"Wow Nova you were right. the hate-love relationship between Vek and Avis is adorable and hilarious if you got a twisted enough humor."

"Good to know you still find things funny Molly," says Vek.

"Not really. If I did I would of laughed, now if I was still alive on the other hand..."

"So Vek what is it?"

"Communication and understanding," you could practically see Vek's smug ass fuck grin within his response.

"AHH-"

"Oh she seems about to go on another one..."

"FINE VEK how about ONE screwing over per an answer?"

"...Only if it doesn't have to be literal!"

Back with Avis after a...very long night and half asleep breakfast. Goddamn was it hard to sleep in that forest even without all the thoughts running through his mind.

We need to look at this from two spectrums.

Too little contact

and, well, the actual possibility of too much contract Simply put the answer isn't to just trail her around like a dog, nor for her to us either.

There are things, I imagine, that we would do best with time for us, and she would do best with time for her. But this is the least of our issues, really.

Instead, I propose this, we come up with a solidified, unified goal that we both share a commen key interest in. Something the give us a reason not just to like each other but to be together, a reason for us to work together for a common thing we share.

We both are trying to get more powerful, now we just need to figure out how to get more powerful together.

You make excellent progress as you head out. Swiftly moving through the creepy forest full of its (dead)ly trees. After awhile the elf slows down as if he is looking for something as the terrain continues to change. You didn't find out the reason for this until he found what he was looking for. Which was a figure wearing a fungal covered rotting robe. Who eventually took note of your presence.

"Oh what do you want elf?"

"Found some...comrades of yours. Well I did what I came for," with that the elf vanished.

The rotgut member meanwhile was confused until Mosley tore off some of his clothing and revealed what was underneath to them.

"Oh I see...my apologies. Not often we have a comrade who takes that route...so whose the kid?"

"Someone of interest to Gulgix. So where is he?"

"Hah Gulgix? Why would he be interested?"

"Kid has a strong talent for deathly nature magics. You sure you want to give us a hard time? Gulgix wont be very happy with you."

"...I see. Gulgix moved his base of operations awhile back ever since some adventurers tried to assassinate him by using the teleportion formation to infiltrate his base."

"So where is he then?"

"It changes on a regular basis. Not even the common members know where he is at for certain. What I do know is we get an update to shift the teleportation circles off and on. You just gotta find a rotgut base and wait till we get word of the shift. Then you use it and bam you will be there."

"...Fine where is the closest base?"

"Down the path and take a left. When you see the big structure knock and show your a rotgut. They'll let you in."

"Fine. Well kid seems like we are almost there."

So you followed the directions given to you by the rotgut member. Sure enough you see a large structure made up of equal parts decayed wood and mushrooms. After Mosley knocked and revealed himself a bit. They opened right up and you went in.

The overwhelming stench of decay and sickness was going to take some getting used to. Unfortunately you find its still going to be a little bit before the teleportation formation is calibrated again. Fortunately the wait isn't suppose to be too long.

Also in the post apoc there were several characters who referred to AI MAL and how much trouble he caused in the Fall to the point of being acknowledged as one of the Fall Architects.

Fuck yeah AI MAL!

They have awesome mushrooms and some amazing breads. They can also make spoiled foods much more edible and their fermented foods are extremely good. They don't actually eat very badly contrary to what you would expect. Just expect a lot of fermented foods served with bread and mushrooms.

Their booze is fucking incredible too. Just don't trust the meat.

Now for their normal druid counterparts you can expect a lot of fresh fruits and veggies with possible meat along with much crappier booze.

The rotguts quite contrary to their name actually eat pretty well and have very healthy gut flora. Now if you like your meat you best learn to like your mushrooms instead.

>>643365
According to Lich Molly you have a major talent in deathly nature magics(aka stuff like decay and shrooms stuff that is heavily frowned upon by the other nature magi) with a smaller talent in necromancy and demonology. This is merely from taking a look at Mushroom Head btw so you may have other talents that haven't been deciphered yet.

Decay druids are some scariest motherfuckers because of the sheer devastation they can unleash with ease. For they are trained in the deathly half of nature magic. There is a reason why they are so hated and even undead fear them.

Decay druids are notorious for being the most common druids who are willing to consort with the undead which is an otherwise HUGE taboo for druids. One of the things that infuriates druids to no end is this fact and the fact they are able to keep their druidic powers. Which drives them crazy as well as set some very dangerous precedence.

Decay Druids are one of the few things both tribes and civilized can agree on hating.

This is something you knew as you approached their grove...which instead of being made of the typical trees or stone your more familiar with is instead a large circle of mushrooms that gently glow and push out spores. The ground itself is heavily overgrown with fungal growths that are surprisingly soft and quite warm. the previous chill you had never quite grown used to is entirely gone. In fact its so warm as to be stuffy.

When you were about to step into the circle a gnarled arm grabbed you and stopped you.

"You still got a meeting with Gulgix kid and not the Fey," speaks the person who stopped you.

"Wait that is a fairy ring?" Holy crap that is the biggest fairy ring you ever seen.

"Well duh, who do you think we got the mushrooms from kid?"

Wow you did not see that coming...

"So your awfully close with the fey then?"

"As much as any other druids kid. Unlike them though we got a much better understanding of fey fungi. We can actually avoid Fey tricks involving it and even go to fairy land as we please by manipulating them."

Holy shit these guys are good.

"So what are you here for anyway kid?"

"Well i figured that you know some decay and fungal focused guys should be able to make some excellent food by virtue of keeping things so fresh, also tired of rations."
>>
Rolled 65 (1d100)

>>643478
"Actually we focus more on using the decay and fungi to our advantage. We don't stop the rot unlike those other pansy ass druids who think freshness is what matters the most even the point of halting its natural decay processes. So we make a lot of fermented foods," explains the druid as he takes you to a place full of tables, chairs, and foods. You could also see a nearby structure with ovens and fires which you assume is where the food is made.

"So we make damn good booze, grow mighty fine mushrooms, bake delicious bread, and carefully make our fermented foods. Not all decay is bad kid. Just because we deal in it doesn't mean we ignore the bad kind. You see those plague docs over there?" He says pointing out a table with some half baked magi and docs in suspiciously fluid covered coats eating around a table arguing about some papers spread out in the middle.

"They are pioneering how to prevent infection and remove rot when wounds go bad. They say maggots of all things are very helpful because they only eat dead flesh and not the living flesh. Sure they can also make diseases...but they do so in order to better learn about them. How to cure for instance...but also how to sicken. Hence why they are called Plague Doctors. Sure they know how to cause plagues but they also know better how to heal and stop them."

"Pretty cool guys the plague doctors. Unlike the rest of their kin they weren't satisfied with playing second fiddle to the magical healers. Gulgax ended up offering them an olive branch which is why they joined us. Truth is we didn't think it was a good idea given their fondness of alchemy and civilization, but I'll be honest they have long proved their value. Sure they're a strange bunch but the truth is all the rotgut are."

"Anyway the food is over there and you can eat all you want. Just don't eat the meat and enjoy your mushrooms instead."

After that the decay druid wandered off leaving you to enjoy the surprisingly good food. You took his advice and stayed away from the meats though. Man they had some damned good food.

Something like that.

Doctors, philosophers, scholars, and alchemists eventually do give rise to Science!

Its a shame how badly magic screwed over tech development vastly slowing its development.

Psi is also still a rather niche subject. It only got popularized during the great revolutionary period as a magical substitute.

>>643829
"Acids are always a good poison substitute especially if your dealing with inorganic foes. Use inorganic eating acids and you got yourself a poison substitute. Organic eating acids also work for organic foes living or dead."

"For undead things that increase decay rate is something they fear. Its why the decay druids make them so antsy. Undead can still rot especially the weaker ones the rot can even kill them."

"undead are heavily resistant to most poisons because they got neither a heartbeat or living flesh still. This doesn't mean they can shrug off stuff that increases decay or eats organic material. Vampires are a noteworthy exception for heartbeats in undead. This works against them with special anti vampire toxins used to take advantage of their mimicry to life."

"Fire and air elementals are a pain to deal with in terms of poisoning. With the earth ones you can still technically hurt with them with acids. Water elementals in turn are vulnerable to water pollution. Air elementals in turn are vulnerable to air pollution. Fire elementals however can burn it away. The magi have however figured out substances to poison them. Otherwise your best bet is cold and vacuum."

"Outsiders your best off using magical toxins either from their homeworld or something that just so happens to be their bane. Fey for instance fear Cold forged Iron. Not something you would find in their homeland but something they are still very vulnerable towards."

"Creatures with similar homeworlds tend to have similar biology which give them similar weaknesses despite their appearances. This is true for both outsiders and natives."

Elementals are the manifestation of Nature's Law. This makes them uniquely vulnerable to Chaos. Fey in turn are the manifestation of Nature's Chaos. They are vulnerable to Law. If you pay attention to these things Outsider weaknesses can quickly be deciphered. Demons for instance are clearly vulnerable to Good and have quite the strong affinity with Evil."

As it turns out those docs are scarily knowledgeable in poisons and biology. Holy shit they could even give a Poison Prince a run for his money. This wasn't even about disease that is their specialty...

It wasn't a cataclysm per a say. What happened is tech started getting good enough to actually give the common man a fighting chance.

That was when revolutions and revolts started exploding everywhere but now they were actually successful even without relying upon the old powers for backing.

After that you ended up with a world split between the new governments(that we are much more familiar with) and the old. They would often fight leading to some of the most vicious and bloody conflicts ever seen.

Basically the setting version of the World Wars.

Eventually collapses basically happens during the setting version of the Cold War and Sci Fi got kicked off. This finally settled down somewhat...

But that didn't last long like everybody thought it would. As you now had the great alien wars, The Brood, and the Machine Menaces rose up. The Brood War was the worst because they were able to utterly counter the Clones which had made war...less intrusive to the people.

For the first time in a LONG time you had drafts make a comeback because clones don't work against Brood. Like at all. A runner up for that kinda conflict was the Machine Menace clones were less useful against them but at least they COULD be used unlike against the Brood and their ilk.

The Alien threat despite their power was actually the least intense of the three New Threats to Humanity. The Old Threats to Humanity also managed to stick around.

The New Threats to Humanity were discovered during Sci Fi era.

The reason why magitech development got screwed over so heavily is you first of all had to find new magics that were compatible with tech. Second of all Magic was seen as the GREAT enemy's weapon(Or Tech if you were on the other side). Naturally that screwed it over even more.

That is why PSI rose up on as a magical substitute for the factions who considered magic the enemy's tool and weapon.

I cannot stress enough with just HOW bad those revolutions and World Wars were in setting. They were fucking awful often being at the level of the Russian revolutions and WW 1 if not worse. It was the bloodiest time in human history in setting.

It only got beaten during the Sci Fi era during the especially nasty conflicts.

So Brood have some eldritch being heritage, don't they?

So biotech is Brood's schtick, bots/AI is Machine's schtick, but what's humanity got going for them that lets them survive against entities like that?

In fact, why are humans still around even in fantasy-era?
>>
Rolled 72 (1d100)

>>644230
I doubt I will ever run a quest during that time period because damn man shit was dark and bloody as fuck. Especially when you consider they didn't have war crimes and magic was available.

Basically had WW1 with Magics and SUPER Science!

The losses were known to be so intense during those wars they popularized troop substitutes like Clones and Machines. For the magic users as the fighting went on they became increasingly reliant on undead, summons, and magical constructs as they literally ran out of men. If they ran out of magi then they would without a doubt lose. This was a BIG problem because magi took awhile to replace unlike the fodder and tech their enemies could quickly throw together.

Even the tech users who often had a lot more manpower often ran into this problem. Its what allowed for Clone replacements, Machine and other engineered substitutes. In fact you would find evidence of the first techs that would create things like Brood and mutants were all pioneered during this timeframe.

You had revolutions going up against the theocracies, the magiocracies, and the kingdoms for whom blood held very literal power. The conflicts were so bad and strong even the heavens trembled from the sheer strain of it. For the first time ever those revolutions actually stood a decent chance because they had tech to give them a fighting chance without relying on something else.

For the first time ever you actually had the Old Threats to Humanity aka the monsters, undead, and outsiders decided to not get involved. Mostly because they frankly didn't need to get what they wanted and honestly they didn't want to get in the middle of it.

So we are talking literal demons who took one look at it and were like 'you know what...I don't think we even need to get involved in this.'

>>644292
The Brood was humanity's greatest engineered bioweapon.

Unfortunately humans didn't learn from the other aliens who tried that and paid the price. Humanity however got lucky and survived. Not all their creators did.

This is also true for machines and AI tho.

Technically the Brood was based off the monsters in fantasy is their closest comparison and the monsters did indeed have eldritch connections.

Humanity is able to stick around because they are adaptable and willing to do bad things/make or break alliances. You also have to remember the bots and brood were not unified.

This is also true for the monsters, undead, and outsiders. The undead problems were explained by Mosley. Despite their great power they are actually the smallest threat.

Problems with monsters is they have to compete with resources and so interconflict is common for them. Also many of them cannot afford to wipe out humanity because for whatever reason they are dependent on them. So when you get down to the wire they would actually fight to protect humanity.

The outsiders are also deeply divided...and there are certain native powers that even they fear.

The brood may have gotten even more eldritch heritage by assimilatting eldritch finds. They may not have only been tinkered with by just humanity...

They also showed strong connections to other alien bioweapons. This is obviously due to research on them were then used on the brood and they served as a source of inspiration.

Technically you could also argue this was true with the monsters and the resulting stuff was used on the Brood too.

Ultimately humanity is still around because of their adaptability and willingness to make allies as well as do bad things for survival.

Unofficially the reason is humanity is nothing but a small fast breeding fish. Even if you lose a few they will on the whole survive.

Sure you may lose entire human worlds...but in the long run does that really matter when you have other worlds and ships?

In truth this is why most other aliens and other beings survive true.

They ain't nothing but small fish. A lot of small fish at that.

If your unlucky you may day out. If your a small fish that breeds slowly...well the odds of you dying out just vastly increased.

The real big players though...in truth they may look unified but they typically aren't. Also why would the big players care about a bunch of little fish?

Sure they make some tasty treats but are they really that much of a concern? So outside some conservation and vast numbers they are not seen as a concern.

I will admit this is a side effect of just how BIG the setting is. A reason for that admittedly is to ensure the losses of an entire world wont utterly fuck over a species. You can afford to take the losses which is what matters in a big setting with big threats and your entire species is nothing but little fish in a big ocean.

How important was our post apocalyptic world in the grand scheme of things?. . .I am lead to believe that this planet, our post apoc planet, was the 'earth' that is to say, origin of the human race planet.

The reason for this is that it has a long history deep in the medieval age, far before the possibility of being colonized by space. As well as a history in magic far before technology

So unless somehow humans evolved on multiple planets, this is the origin planet yes?

Was it ever revealed what nation our world used to belong too?

What happened to the capitals of the Republic and the Collective respectively before and during the fall?

---

>>
Rolled 19 (1d100)

Humanity's true homeworld is our own earth.

Of some importance. Nobody in setting knows what humanity's true homeworld was.

Actually colonizing new world happened in fantasy timeline due to magic. Sometimes even by using magical spaceships at that!

Even 'Sci fi' era is actually just when the first of humanity's worlds reached the necessary tech level. Technically there are other human worlds whose tech level is still QUITE primitive. However that doesn't mean they're easy to bully if they got the magics.

...Unless those poor bastards are unlucky enough to have shitty tech AND being on a magically desolate world. Which is some serious bad luck man.

Yes this means the first sci fi worlds were there the ones without magic.

An origin planet DOES exist...(see spoilers at the top).

Earth...Is in a separate universe. Yes this means somehow humans got taken or left and came to the Genieverse.

Otherwise where is the fun in revealing that?

In truth worlds often swapped owners sometimes becoming independent, conquered, or ownership was transferred over. Sometimes worlds were even divided between different powers. Sometimes said powers on a world while sharing a homeworld all owned worlds off the planet.

>>644466
You can't stop 'progress' only slow it or speed it up.

I also spent WAY to much time figuring all this shit out.

It reached the point where its actually a cluster of universes who interact with each other and humanity ain't nothing but a small fish.

...originally it started out as a single world and sorta expanded from there.

>>644486
That also happened and is the biggest reason why humanity was able to spread out without magical spaceships with FTL.

Teleporting was also QUITE helpful!

Also stealing what the outsiders used to travel to different worlds and universes. Those fuckers had that shit down to art.

Stealing Alien Tech also occurred.

You decide to check out the stores. Fortunately for you those same sorcerers also ran most of the stores. Except a handful that is outside their reach. You also recall Mosley saying something about Nova fronting any costs for you so you should be fine. Gives you a weird feeling to rely on your fiance like that but truth is you have the feeling that isn't something that is about to go away anytime soon. So you better off getting used to it or something.

The stores for their part offer a series of highly illegal and otherwise questionable goods. You swear the most legal thing you could fine were poisons.

Now when you checked out the other stores there was a necromancy store. So it turned out the influence from Gulgix's wife apparently hasn't worn off yet after all. Well at least something Mosley has claimed has proven true at least.

Another store you found was oddly enough one ran by a decay druid. It offered all manner of...'natural' products that the decay druids produce and some items they also have made. You have the feeling that this stuff is highly illegal if not questionable to possess...but its also the only place you'll like be able to find this otherwise extremely rare rare goods and equipment.

The plague doctor shop for its part offered medical supplies and specialty goods. Like plague cauldrons and something they claim is a 'vaccine' that protects against certain diseases ahead of time. That apparently isn't magical...your not sure if you belief that though.

The next store you found was the quartermaster who offered supplies. Quite a bit of which he claimed was a 'rotgut' specialty. Mostly strange things like fungi and large amounts of booze as well specially preserved foods. Given you tried out their foods you know its great stuff so long as you stay away from the meat. He also offered general goods as the only apparent 'general supplies' was provided by him.

The next store after that was the armory. It harbored equipment and weapons in bulk. Including lots of plagues stored in specially prepared vessels and fungal fun surprises. Including the equipment necessary to maintain their forces with some to spare. Lots of otherwise very rare, exotic, and illegal items.

The last store you very nearly missed. It was ran by a moldy skeleton and the store look half like it was dead and the other half forgotten. The skeleton claimed the store specialized in 'merged' goods that are based upon what Gulgix and his wife came up with together. Including undead plagues. Strange modifications for undead and all manner of other...very peculiar items. Your honestly not sure what to make of it but it is without a doubt a true rotgut specialty. After all other decay druids and such exist who aren't rotguts...but you haven't heard of a married couple like them before.

"Otherwise good gear, equipment, and supplies are always good to buy more of. Hell you might even be able to sell it elsewhere for a profit."
>>
>>644853
"So just supplies and living items then? Alright.

And yeah, mabye a few items for Nova would be useful."
>>
Let's start brainstorming items to put on our list.

Some of our most basic needs, at lesat.

-Water
-Food
-Cooking utensils (pots, etc)
We have fire through our Demonic Scythe at least.

>>644780
"Is there anything like a magical supply of endless water and foodstuffs?"

--

We could use a good tent too. Maybe one bigger on the inside than the outside.
>>
>>644983
"There are such things of magical supply but...well the quality tends to be terrible. If they weren't it would be a lot more common."

Tent wise such tents do exist. The bigger and more perks the more expensive. Such an item like that you would best off be buying at home. You would get a better deal unless your after a specialty product.

>Now when you checked out the other stores there was a necromancy store.

Or suck up their souls and energy to empower me.

Hmm, got anything to let me have my cake and eat it? Say. . .something that gives me the most energy from those I slay and any dead I find but still lets them fight for me as soldier puppets?"

---

How about something that can rapidly arm the undead, like, summons shields, spears, and arrows into their hands to turn a normal skeleton into a skeleton soldier?
>>
Rolled 75 (1d100)

>>645045
"Undead don't need souls to animate themselves. They also don't need the life force they previously had or lost when they died."

"You can feed off either one and still animate the dead."

"Spectre gear? That is an undead specialty. Rather magic intensive but its able to bypass quite a few defenses."

"Skeletal Soldier wise best way to do it is a warrior soul into a dead warrior body preferably its own. Otherwise your best bet is warrior bodies animated to recall how to fight or a warrior soul into an ordinary body."

"Obviously the fresher the body the better in terms of memory recall if your not planning to stuff a soul inside or throw a lot of magic around."

"This is all necromancy basics kid."

>The plague doctor shop for its part offered medical supplies and specialty goods. Like plague cauldrons and something they claim is a 'vaccine' that protects against certain diseases ahead of time. That apparently isn't magical...your not sure if you belief that though.
Yes, get the vaccines. For some reason we. . .trust them. "give me the one for the most common plagues and plauge attacks. "

Buy some plague cauldrons, whatever we can fit.

Hmm, what else.
>>
Rolled 105 (1d1000)

>>644983
Bruv, you're thinking in such basic terms when we're at an extremely specialty location.

>>645045
It's not really the specialty we're going into, I don't think. We should see Gulgix before investing too heavily into necromancy.

>>645197
I agree with the vaccines, but I think we should get a dose of every goddamn vaccine they have available.

Otherwise, to please Nova, we need to look for things that will unlock new techs for her dungeon (and thereby allow her and us to purchase them from Vek for cheap).

Also I still think we ought to consider things along the lines of turning Vek's dungeon into an alchemist's paradise. Along those lines we should look for
>Mushrooms with alchemical, personal-enhancing, particularly poisonous, or other unique/interesting traits
>Natural products along the same lines, but especially things that would/could propagate themselves in a fungal-bug warren or in a forest
Further, seeing as bugs are part of decay, we can even look for samples of nifty bugs that carry diseases (or if eaten are beneficial to one's health) because we can easily just store them in our magical jar of storing bugs.

In particular I think we should look for a cycle that can be implemented, that's mainly for utility but could be used for combat.

>Fungus of (Property) [Fire, Ice, Death, Decay, whatever]
>Bugs of Imprinting [A special breed of bug noted for their taste for fungi of all sorts, and their extremely basic digestive systems that result in the indigestible portions of their food being stored and concentrated in them]
>Fungi of Bug Domination/Consumption, with a harvestable core
That way this shit is continuously concentrating itself, making it more valuable.

Also we should look into if they have anything that's along the lines of boosters. Perhaps describe to the Plague Doctors or Decay Druids what Nova fed us, tell them what we're trying to do/be and maybe they'll be willing to trade another sort of upgrade-mushroom for a sample of our blood or something.

But the more VARIETY of shit we get the better off we'll be, where Nova's dungeon is concerned, because unlock costs are high.
>>

Wrong dice.
>>
Rolled 20 (1d100)

>>646102

As for trade goods, I think we should go for booze. At this point in time there's not likely to be any good means of rapid travel that's non-magical, so people are still going to be mostly restricted to their local breweries' products, which are probably not very good due to sanitation not being a super big concern.

So Rotgut booze ought to be a triple whammy of exotic, good tasting, and doesn't make you sick from finding the occasional lump of yeast clumped around a rat bone.

Other than that, we should use our shadow skills to identify some small, highly valuable shit that you absolutely could not get around home.

Further though, in addition to the various poisons, fungi, and bugs we're picking up for Vek we shouldn't skimp on plagues and the like. Just because they're more easily taken care of with Cure Disease doesn't mean they're not highly useful. Certain diseases that could be applied to the bugs might even enhance their power for relatively little downsides.

So in sum

You do have a necromancy and demonology talent. Its just not as strong as your deathly nature magic talent.

So you want samples for Nova?

Remember Vek's shop isn't always the cheapest route. It has its own drawbacks.

They do indeed have a decent collection of alchemy ingredients. However do to it not being their focus its not particularly great. Bug wise...they have lots of those. At least the druids do anyway.

When you asked for boosters like the one Nova force feed you that one time. The Plague Doctors were the only ones who realized what you were talking about. According to them...well they don't really have too many of those. What they DO have is from Gulgix which he made with his wife for the undead.

Like what happened to Mosley apparently.

For living effects...they have a few substances that have interesting effects. They also said some shrooms they druids grow can help boost you and they got a few 'modified' pathogens that could help as well. Unfortunately that is the best they got outside of drugs.

>>646232
You arranged to purchase Rotgut booze in bulk.

Your attempts to find valuable substances have also worked out. Apparently the plague docs have some real nice drugs, the dark sorcerors a lot of otherwise hard to find things, decay druids have some valuable substances with them as well, and the necromancers had some good stuff.

All of which you arranged to be purchased.

Cure Disease only helps against mundane sicknesses(see nonmagical). Once its magical it starts to have a failure rate. Another problem is you have to catch it in time. Otherwise the plague will still tear through your lower classes(as the upper can afford countermeasures). The only exception to this rule is if you get hit by a magical plague.

In which case not even the upper classes are safe.

and as it turns out...they have a truly astounding variety of plagues. Including a number of the strange things they call 'vaccines' which supposedly protects you against them.

What was even scarier was you successfully managed to convince the rotgut to get access to their special disease storage. There you found entire vats of specially grown magical plagues...and even more horrifying their own specialty plagues. Both mundane and magical these diseases however...were modified and engineered by the Rotgut.

So you made sure to buy up a LOT of those before heading out to see Mosley.

"Oh you arrived...you got good timing kid. They were right about to adjust the teleportation formation. Soon we can make the trip to see Gulgix himself. Best finish up whatever you wanna do kid as we be leaving soon."

"So what did you do Mosley?"

"There was some stuff Molly wanted and I bought some new gear. Been a LONG time since I been able to reequip myself with such luxurious items."

Great Mosley has become an even BIGGER danger!

Another thing that would be of value the rotguts have is besides their booze quality they are also quite good at making nonperishable foods. Admittedly this is due to them taking advantage of the fermentation process but it is also something of value.

Unfortunately by the time you got there all the stores were now closed and by the time you got back you were running late.

Fortunately the teleport still worked and...you found yourself surrounded by an entire enemy army with their weapons all pointed at you two.

That was when Mosley looked around and shouted quite loudly.

"GULGIX IT'S YOUR WIFE'S SISTER'S HUSBAND MOSLEY!"

...there was nothing but silence. Not even crickets were heard before suddenly you heard a loud crash. Followed by yet another crash that turned into a chain reaction of crashes and what sounds like someone falling/running down the stairs.

It was so loud and bad sounding everybody couldn't help but look over and flinch with every obnoxious crashing sound. Finally a figured appeared a ways away as he shooed away the army. The army then proceeded to disolve away.

"MOSLEY MY BROTHER IN LAW...What are you doing here," asks a pale figure with thin facial and head hair. He was wearing a stained coat and there seemed to be something...off with him, but you couldn't quite figure it out.

"What are you saying I am no longer allowed to visit?"

"No...no of course not. Just the last time you came there was an army right behind you. The time before that you went to my wife about that...operation. When before that you invited me to that bloody massacre of a wedding. Mosley no offense but your bad news."

"What about my wife," asks Mosley and without missing a beat Gulgix replied with.

"Even worse news."

You had a hard time fighting back that chuckle.

"Well this time I come bearing good news! Don't look at me like that Gulgix. I know where your wife is...by the way I thought you two divorced when she went all lich."

"You know I thought that would happen too...personally I think she just forgot about being married or just never bothered with getting the divorce. I can't believe you two are still married."

"More surprising that you two are not us. You know feelings never really got involved with us two."

"True...true. So what good news? Last time you said that my wife suddenly decided she wanted kids. You any IDEA how much trouble that caused me?"

"What isn't that a normal?"

"...She was already DEAD."

"Oh...yeah I can see how that could be trouble."

"I got WAY to familiar to the damned bloodsuckers and dhampir along with purebred babies come from. NOT fun."

So they have a history together...a very troubled history.

"Well this time its legit!"

"Oh really now? Remember what happened the LAST time you said that."

"Oh come on how can you pin that on us. That was your wife's doing."

"No thanks to you two! So what kind of trouble are you bringing me this time?"

"Meet Avis he has a STRONG talent for deathly natural magics!"

"Uhuh...and what's the catch?"

"...He is an adventurer and engaged to power hungry dungeon keeper," Mosley hurriedly says trying to get past Gulgix.

"Oh come on you know that is unnecessary! We can just leave the girls out of this...okay?"

Why does this give you a very strange feeling...

"So guess you'll take him?"

"...well its not like my name can't become any more infamous to begin with. So why not support a budding forbidden romance."

"See Gulgix? I KNEW we would get along just fine!"

"Why the hell are you two getting involved anyway? Even you two should know better."

"Oh come on we are just some helpless romantics..."

"..."

"Not buying it huh?"

"You two wouldn't no romance if it bit you both on the ass and made a baby."

"Hey I would have you know a mushroom bouquet is VERY romantic for necromancers!"

"Gods don't go into that fucked up romance of yours alright? We already know you two were practically made for each other sheesh..."

"I don't," you chirped.

"What why are you both looking at me like that?"

"You know Gulgix...those two kinda remind me of you two when you were both young. Hey kid you might wanna consider romance advice from Gulgix. Normally I wouldn't EVER advise this but for you two it just might work out."

"What do you mean those two remind you of us...okay now that I think about it you might actually have a point. Anyway kid someone will guide you to your quarters. You'll be staying here until I decide to let you go."

Think opposite of what druids use and apply more decay.

VERY effective as it turns out against undead. Even more effective according to Gulgix then holy magics. According to him the only reason why holy magic works against undead and gods spent a lot time figuring out how to make them hurt. They largely ignored the undead's natural weaknesses outside of burning it with fire and searing light.

Deathly Nature magics ARE technically a natural magic. Its just they focus on the dead, dying, and decay applications more then the living.

You decide to test out your new gifts on some roaming hostile undead. True as promised deathly nature magics is devastating against the undead. Their flesh quickly rotting away and their bones turning to dust. Even their unholy souls or energy emanations get dampened when hit by it.

Sadly you were unable to further descrate them very well due to the whole no bodies or being in such bad condition as to not be worth the magic required to animate them. You do get a bit of a boost but just not worth reviving them too.

Continue to train under Gulgix, these powers are useful.

"So these are very effective against the undead!

But, how do you plan against the living? I mean, yes there is poison and there is disease, and for non-organics there are things like acid. but in particular, living beings are resistant to rot and decay because, well, we heal and can fight sickness unlike the dead who don't have the functions of the living.

How do you plan against say, someone with a very strong healing factor or is exceptionally gifted at healing and medicine, who can shrug off disease and poison?"

---

Also ask Gulgix for dating advice.

"I'd like to use my time with Nova while I can. We won't live forever, so while we are alive. Have children, enjoy each others company while we can, start a family. the stuff we can't do if we just wait until we're old or worse, dead or undead.

...I'm not even sure if I want to live on past death. I mean, I will if Nova wants to but... from what I heard, you just lose out so much. And if you try to keep it, it becomes twisted.

The only real answer would be to maybe discover immortality. But i have a feeling even immortals might not be cracked up to be.

I should go ask her."

---

Yet more questions.

"So, back to the topic of defeating the undead.

I think it's obvious that insects love rotting corpses. Flies will lay maggots in them, ants rip them apart, the body liquifies and rots away.

I've got a magical insect hive full of all sorts of insects and there IS an insect warren in Vek's dungeon.

Is there some sort of art that can synchronize Deathly Nature Magic with say, giant bug monsters or bug magic?

Rot the undead first, then let the bugs eat em up while they're rotting away!"

"Fine one more time then. You will likely run into this during your adventurers. One particularly Strong Enemy."

Suddenly a hulking sole figure appeared. That was when Gulgix exploded(literally) into action. Rot and mushroom growth blasted forth corrupting the terrain and hitting the enemy. You could suddenly see Gulgix appearing before disappearing once more in an explosion after unleashing a few spells that seemed to overlap and call upon the terrain forming a fusion before hitting the enemy. By the time the enemy launched an attack back Gulgix was gone with the explosion and the enemy got hit by the backlash.

Meanwhile all the explosions and spells used by Gulgix further corrupted the terrain and further enhanced his own abilities while weakening the enemy.

The foe however responded with fire magic to burn it all away and Gulgix countered with a water spell. What was strange however that when the growths were burned they unleashed a toxic smoke. Meanwhile when the water and flame hit. There was something clearly wrong with the water...as noxious fog exploded outward that afflicted the enemy and further enhanced the growth of the corrupted terrain.

Gulgix's counter spells in truth the only reason they were different from his usual casting effects was because they countered the enemy's action and often it was further enhanced by the foe!

When Gulgix showed his ways of group fighting the only thing that was different was his speed to counter all the enemy and how concentrated his attacks were. Now they were spread out like a big bad blanket that especially enhanced the terrain directly around the enemy.

"There kid. Unlike other Magi we must focus on using deliberating effects to cripple our enemy and slowly drive them to death. Yet at the same time we should further enhance our own abilities and stay safe. The greatest trick is why not making them all occur with the same action hm?"

"There is a reason why those damned adventurers were never able to kill I Gulgix."

"For us speed is especially important the faster we can work our magics and the faster it works the faster it will kill. Optimally you would also have some pets like shrooms or undead to help keep the enemy busy. Your an adventurer your best bet is to choose a group carefully and innoculate them against your own magic."

Be careful kid if those allies of yours turn into enemies your going to be in deep shit."

"Why didn't you use any pets then?"

"Did it look like i needed any help?"

"Energizing Explosion. Its an uncommon if rather dangerous spell. I merely customized it a bit. Basically the magic you gather around yourself to move you quickly you allow it to rampage and explode. Covering your own escape as well as damaging anybody too close. If your just that good you can even align the magic energies in the explosion. I for instance aligned them so as to boost the growths and further cripple the enemy."

"I further enhanced the blinking affect as to be in alignment with my growths. While this prevents me from teleporting away from the growths in question. It greatly speeds up the spell and makes it much harder to track. If I wanted to I could even use false explosions to further confuse things."

"Magic requires being clever kid. There is always a price to pay and the more you imbalance that price in your own favor the harder its going to get. There is a reason why so much spells and magic items have so many limitations. Its because of that they easier to manage."

Your attempts to accomplish what Gulgix had done did not go well. Your growths expanded too slowly. Your spells too inefficient, limited, and weak. The deliberating effects were too weak and slow acting.

You could not for the life of you figure out how Gulgix was able to cast so fast and influence his other spells into carrying additional effects of his specialty.

As for using the blinking while you were able to blink you were not able to do so as quickly, without trace, and without having it boost or damage your foes.

All you gotta say is Gulgix is clearly a cheating bastard and you are beginning to appreciate just how good he truly is. No wonder nobody has managed to kill him and that was clearly him messing around.

You would hate to see what he could do should he ever get serious.

Technically there are two shadow schools currently interested in you. Nova had to kick the ass one of their recruiters remember? As for if they are still interested you don't know.

Your excuse for this training trip was...well training and if any dug too deep you got the interest of an expert you decided to help tutor you. Its not something people are going to look real closely at especially as a young adventurer.

You decide to go to the nearby store which you think should have what you are after. The guy there strangely enough seemed to have been expecting you as he pulled up two large packages up onto the counter before showing off his wares.

He claims those two packages are 'on the house'. What is strange about them however is one is most definitely Gulgix's sick mushroom style. The other one however is much more plain with nothing but some skeletal stitching and hidebound look dyed black. You have the feeling that second package isn't actually from Gulgix.

Wares wise you see a wide collection of spell components and magical item ingredients. You also saw the typical mage weave clothing and spell enhancing magi weapons. Mostly in the form of staffs or wands if it didn't hybrid with something else. You also saw a collection of charms, wards, and effigies. There was also the constant selection of fungi, disease, and stranger critters that the Decay Druids would be fond of. Like bugs for instance and other creatures of rot.

Magical item wise they had lots of stuff related to decay, rot, and disease. Too much really. Thankfully being under Gulgix has led to acquiring a much finer appreciation of such items.

Okay! Let's make a NEW set of gear.

The Deathly Nature Mage

>Weapons
Poison Jabbers - Really sharp metallic or even more exotic piercing bits, that we can attach to the end of our seeker chain and use to deliver deadly poisons, toxins, and gas to our enemies in hundreds of jabs! Also, we can attach them to the sides of the chains to make them like moving barbed wire.
Staff of Deathly Nature + Tank of Brewing - A large tank of brewing perfect for holding AND festering different types of poisonous noxious brew, which has a hose at the end which can attach to a Magical Staff of Deathly Nature to allow us to spray all kinds of noxious things. Not only at our enemies but with magic even more stranger things like making poison boil up inside their lungs and drown them in it! Works for everything from acid to water to muck

>Items
The Apprentice Kit of Deathly Nature Mages. Has everything the novice beginner Death Mage could need.

>Goods
Rot Hive(s) - A collection of specialized Termites, Flies, Ants, and other insects who have been especially bred for the quick devouring of decaying and undead flesh. Includes two queens, one as a backup in case the first dies. Comes in both swarms of tiny size AND the big giant monstrous size.

>Armors
A complete set of Deathly Nature Mage Armor.

>Equipment
Cape of Corruption - Magical cape that when put on, surrounds one with a deadly corruptive gas AND magical aura that will spread both physical and magical rot and decay around the self. Wherever the noxious cloud touches the ground, water, even air is corrupted with rot and if breathed in by the living or floats into the lungs of the undead starts to cause rot and corruption.

Gem of Accelerated Injury and Decay - A specialized gem which has slight time magic components, that causes wounds and decay to RAPIDLY accelerate. What might take days or hours to caue necrosis happens in seconds or less. Is compatible with our Power Gauntlet, to allow us to hit someone in the face. Instead of just a bruise, it accelerates the injury, making it as though in seconds, several days has past, as if the person didn't bother to care for the bruise, making it get infected, infested, rot away, and spread, in a flash.

Punch a guy in the face and watch it splatter into goey bits! Or attach to a staff or any other magical component.
https://youtu.be/8-1n0eR7IfI?t=73

Jar of Savage Splinters - Holds a magical plant of savage splinter weeds. Just one single splinter in flesh, and it eats away at the flesh and grows into more splinters which embed themselvs in the body, causing infection, inflammation, and prevents normal healing from occuring. Is incredibly painful, as well as useful against rapid healers by causing constant internal injury.

Plague Bell - Magical bell enchanted with a curse. The enemies of the the owner it hear the tome, while the friends of them do not.

All who hear the tome of Plague Bell feel a massive headache in their head, and their inner ear becomes infested with a violent plague along with pain. This starts off first by destroying their ability to hear, then rapid necrosis of the surrounding tissues PLUS a fungus which spreads into the rot. The ears begin to seep putrid fluid and pour with fungal spores. Eventually, it will spread into the eyes and nose via the ducts, and then at last eat the brain.

Mask of Occularis Necrosis - An enchanted mask with a very special ability. When activated, all who gaze upon the eyes of the mask recieve eye rot, which both causes blindness and painfully devours the eyes. Once the eyes have rotted away, the surrounding tissue also remains infected and spreads.

Is especially notorious in the spider and cyclops community.

Allow me to expound.

>Jar of Savage Splinters
The Splinter plant is, in fact, an invention of the Rotguts' Decay Druids, Plague Doctors, and Scum Sorcerers' collaborative efforts. It began simply as simply a very nasty and rapid growing spiked vine plant native to the Warland's swamps. It was noted primarily for its carniverous tastes and a few nasty infections that lived in its bark symbiotically.

Then the Rotguts got ahold of it and properly weaponized it. A concoction of plagues developed by the Doctors replaced the plant's native diseases, all engineered to specially to produce acidic and caustic chemicals seldom found except in the workings of a Scum Sorcerer's laboratory, to break down a host's flesh (or whatever) into its component bits.

Then the Decay Druids fashioned a special fungus, designed to feed upon the output of the Splinter Vine's diseases. The fungus is rather spongy in nature, and its fruit explodes in a violent fashion once ripe. In effect this catches the Splinter Vine's seeds inside the fungal unit, and then spreads them further around the host and to other nearby beings. While this would be nasty enough on its own, the fact that this fungus was specially designed to serve as an incubator for the Splinter Vine to kick off the cycle again with greater intensity only serves to rub salt (or in this case fungal-coated blood feeding splinter-vines) in the wound.

The best part of all is that, due to the fungal-coated nature of the Splinter Vine's seeds, even an apprentice in the ways of Deathly Nature Magic can easily control when the plants activate or do not by setting the fungi to dormant or not. As such it makes an excellent weapon to dust your own clothing with, spreading the infection to any enemies that touch you and laying in wait as a trump card in case you need it.

The only thing you were unable to find was the gem with the required infused time magics. Apparently time magic is a pain even for an archmage. What they DID have was something they referred to as a 'booster'.

It works by forcefully enhancing the magic in question thereby allowing for both increased power and acceleration. It is also a gem. Technically its even better then what you had asked for. Unfortunately unlike the time piece its a specialty piece.

Plague Doctor protection relies upon a very special(and easy to recongnize) uniform that are often enchanted to further enhance its protections. Its practically the opposite of Scum Sorcery or Decay Druid equipment which does the opposite(see enhances the effects).

You yourself are immune which apparently is a side effect of learning and using the magics. Its that or you literally end up killing yourself. Apparently that also serves as a vetting process. Those who don't have the health either die or end up a Plague Doc instead because they cannot survive using it.

The immunizing is a rather miserable process even with Gulgix helping out. You practically died on several occasions you can remember. Apparently you got (un)lucky. Gulgix's treatment is a lot more likely to kill you because of how accelerated it is. On the plus side if it doesn't kill you then it finishes up much faster. You were done in under a month! Admittedly you don't remember much that month do to just how sick you were.

Now it would take a plague god to make you sick.

You use the teleportation formation to get back home. There you see a familiar battlefield. Also a skeleton holding a sign that states

"Directions for Dumbass Fuck Buddy 'Fiance' follow the guy holding this sign"

Okay you gotta admit your starting to dislike Molly even more then Mosley. Yet you still got stuck having to follow the skeleton who showed you the way out.

Then you ran into a problem...now you gotta get back to the dungeon from where your at and the skeleton wandered off once its job was done.

So you tried...and unsurprisingly got lost on the way back. Luckily for you the bandits showed up who brought you to see Boo.

"Well if it isn't the fiance who keeps getting lost."

"Hey now that dungeon is REALLY well hidden!"

"Really? How about your failure to find our base?"

"In my defense you have since moved it. By the way how did the bandits kno-"

"What oh don't tell me she got captured!"

"No worse."

"...What's worse then that?"

"Politics."

"...Okay worse it is then. What the hell happened?"

"After the 'talk' with Molly she decided to find another excuse to spend more time together with you. You lucky bastard. Anyway she settled on being a source of work as an excuse."

"So how does this involve politics?"

"I am getting there. You see at the same time we were also doing this big move and doing some big plans. So she used it as an excuse to establish herself as a noble lady and get in with politics."

"In other words she got too power hungry and over extended herself."

"Pretty much yeah that is the short story of it."

"Good to know. So what are the need to know details?"

"Bandit operations expanded. Moved dungeon into new lands. Used new lands as excuse for nobility."

"Fuck why did she think getting into politics was a good move?"

"We are talking the power hungry Nova and she needed a legitimate excuse for you two to spend time together."

"Balls this is my fault then ain't it?"

"Exactly. I personally suggest keeping your distance lest you lose a hand."

"Even me?"

"Even you would lose at least a finger."

"Damn...so the politics hasn't been working out much then?"

"Actually Nova is doing TOO well. She has suitors out the ass. As it turns out a lonely beauty with is expanding her lands in the rough borderlands is a real heartache. Throw in some clever political maneuvering, lots of potential lands and wealth along with exploiting her...illegal connections."

"What did you expect that Nova was going to be nice and easy?"

"..."

"Don't ever expect to catch a break kid. Nova has her own objectives that she is pursuing. She made some changes because of you. The noble deal wasn't suppose to happen for years yet as she aimed to develop the new turf first."

"Yeah I kind of remember Nova and Vek talking about that. They had this plan for years already?"

"...Be careful of Vek. I know you know that already kid but the thing is that THING has been whispering into Nova's ear since she was very young. That thing is a wretchedly evil thing. You know this...but Nova trusts that thing completely."

"Sounds like you don't trust Vek."

"I don't trust anything that isn't human and even many humans aren't trustworthy. Nova went against Vek when she took the noble route much sooner then planned. She did it for YOU. She also knows there are many problems with the relationship so she took that route to get an excuse to spend more time together through 'employment'. Vek however also noticed how she went up against him because of you..."

"So your saying Vek is going to target me?"

"Vek targets everybody kid. Your Nova's blindspot because she loves you...but Vek doesn't have that problem."

"So watch out for Vek even more so?"

"I wish I knew what Vek plans kid I really do. I also wish to know what it is he did to Nova to make her like she is."

"What about Nova?"

"Surely you have noticed kid. She is much stronger then you would think...her thoughts are just a tad bit twisted no? You ever seen a young girl like that?"

"..."

"I didn't think so. Nova however seems fine with it and she has her own goals. From what I have learned Nova and Vek reached an understanding...until you came along."

"How so?"

"When you showed up kid things...changed. For the first time ever Vek trusted someone else besides Nova. For the first time ever...Nova went AGAINST Vek. You haven't been around long enough to know how big a deal that is."

"So who gives the orders between the two? You make it sound like Vek is the boss...but then so too is Nova?"

"Like i said kid they came to an understanding. Vek is a twisted thing who did something to Nova. Yet Nova agreed and has plans of her own. Its a dangerous game those two play and they are two evil players who decided to work together."

"Because your not stupid kid."

"Come on your an adventurer. You know how bad things can be when the bad guys choose to work together."

"...I also haven't noticed much betrayal."

"Exactly kid...then you showed up."

"So your just a young adventurer engaged to an evil lady. She'll use you and you'll use her. Your going to turn a blind eye to what she does...until when kid? So she turns a blind to what you do. You both do your own thing. "

"Give and take...yet that isn't quite enough now is it? For love anyway and you two love each other...so you give. Do some not so nice things."

"...Then she gives. Doing some not so smart things."

"Why?"

"Because love."

"Its a tedious thing...yet you both give and take."

"...Yet it works doesn't it? So long as your willing to sacrifice for each other yeah? So long as you both reach that most critical 'understanding'."

"Why does this give me a bad feeling..."

"Because your not a bad boy kid. Nova likes that but your gonna have to get used to an awful lot of bad feelings. Same with Nova kid she gets plenty of bad feelings that she has to swallow too."

"...So about the politics?"

"She'll get word of you being back soon enough. I personally suggest running. Your not going to do that though so instead I'll say you should run to school. Otherwise Nova is going to catch you and drag you into it once she sunk her claws back into you properly."

"You make that sound like a bad thing."

"Oh you'll spend time together she fuck your brains out so hard you'll both be walking funny but the thing is she is going to have jobs for you...and those jobs come from a not so nice source."

"So will you bite the bullet and help a bad person. Or will you by some more time with more schooling? Try to level the playing field?"

"Free tip kid that field wont ever be leveled if your on your own. Nova wont mind of course. As it would enable her to sink her claws even deeper into you as she offers her support."

"I am really starting to hate this..."

"Hah that is the problem with forbidden love and the trouble that is loving an evil woman, but hey at least she cares for you!"

"You any idea how sketchy I am already by adventurer standards?"

"Kid how do you plan to NOT be sketchy by being with a woman like that?"

"...Fair point. Fuck there is no getting away from it is there?"

More a difference of power that you seek.

The MC currently is interested in personal power.

Nova ain't that picky. It also helps she has Vek whispering stuff in her ear and she has acquired a few worthy allies.

Unless anons choose to change the types of power the MC is after. Which is an option.
>>
>>656803
Well, Nova has armies! somewhat.

And land too.

And money!

We just want to get more fighty, because that's a lot easier than what is essentially civving.

and the main reason for that is almost primarily Meta, because its already complicated handlig a hero but is still easier than outright civing.

If we go for armies, land, and politics we fall into the same hodgepodge that Petyr and Abigail was. Waaaaaaay too many threads to juggle.

Being a hero and focusing on stabby stab is much easier! I must admit though, I do want to try and start up a bug army from our hives. Maybe assemble an undead army we can summon at will too.

--

I really feel like at his heart Avis is a simple soul.

He wants to be strong and tough,
He wants to have fun and adventures,
but most of all, he wants to be with Nova. . .one of the biggest things he fears right now is Nova losing interest in him.
>>
>>656830
Actually I am heavily simplifying it in this quest

Who the fuck do you think is handling Nova's shit?

Politics...well the Genie has more then proven political ability. So hey that is actually possible! Just be aware I am insanely good at that sorta thing.

Its also why if I ever run a game of thrones game I will strongly advise buying a spymaster. Someone like that is fucking critical if your dealing with Genie politicking.

Since your engaged to Nova and she trusts you do have access to her books.

Her current forces are the following

>Bandits
>Bugs
>Undead
She can currently field if she completely exhausts her forces about 3 armies. One of each.

Money wise a LOT of Nova's money is illegally obtained. She has to spend a lot of effort to clean her cash meaning most of it she spends on Vek or her bandits.

Now what cash she does have cleaned along with her legal assets is a mixture of fungi, mineral, and lumber. What she doesn't say is she saves a lot of money by employing Undead with the most labor intensive jobs. This saves her a lot of money but actually also costs her a lot(because undead don't spend money on living stuff).

This fact is actually putting her in a bit of a bind because she wants to expand she will have to either keep eating the losses or figure out how to use living manpower without blowing her cover. In that regard Nova is using her dead to build up key infrastructure and land clearances.

She intends to move people to establish some proper colonies under her own control.

To escape getting pushed around to heavily by nobles and other problems. Nova's claimed turf is actually rather distant. What they don't know is even IF nova was closer she actually DOES have the ability to defend her turf.

The reason why her lands are so distant is because she found MAGIC RICH LANDS.

Normally those places are ruled by the Magi but because it was close enough to the deadlands they didn't bother. So Nova decided to move in.

Originally she was planning to independently establish herself without ties to kingdoms and such. Only problem was the MC screwed it up because she wanted an excuse to spend more time with him. So she blew her cover and revealed herself sooner then planned.

However she only did this AFTER she ensured she could defend herself. When you were gone getting taught Nova was finishing up her defenses. So even if worse comes to worse she can withdraw to her HQ and stay safe(good luck getting to Nova's HQ she herself had to run an underground gauntlet because the surface route was a no go).

Since then she has actually established two sets of lands under her control. One is her HQ and the other is some 'reclaimed' lands that ensured her noble title. After she sent some vows she was in and the hottest piece of ass on the market that wasn't a princess.

Everyone thinks those lands are only hers and she is struggling to maintain them(which is a bluff).

>"...Fair point. Fuck there is no getting away from it is there?"
>"Not unless you do the polar opposite thing. Either case still requires an understanding. You might wanna work on that before you meet up with Nova again. The stuff you wish to bring up and wish to guard."

>Other?
Go up on a high hill overlooking the city and the sunset.

And...think about our life.

Once upon a time we wanted to be an adventurer. Maybe even a hero!

And we almost were, until we met nova. We killed our party for her, and would do it again.

We know we'll do anything for her she asks. Corrupt ourselves, let her claws into our heart and wrap a chain around it.

Even our fighting style is a reflection of our devotion, a manifestation of our guilt and shame but also embracing the sins we've done and will do for her.

But

Before we descend into hell for her. Let's at least, for once in our life, be a real hero. We've invested so much into death demons and deathly nature, let's at least invest an equal amount into heroic and good abilities, and maybe do some good before we work for Nova and possibly do some evil.

Maybe to level the playing field, we refine this part of us that still remains pure and then lock it in our hearts, in case we ever need to bring it out again.

Nova is using that weak front to rustle out support and draw out enemies(who quickly find themselves suffering a ton of misfortune all of a sudden). What they don't know is those lands she claimed? They are along key potential routes to her HQ. Nova went through a lot of trouble to find potential routes and claimed those routes.

Nova also made herself look like a noble who is trying to reclaim lands 'now lost' that her family originally owned. The fact that she now truly owns some lands along with that false history she purchased her way into local scene.

Unsurprisingly Nova is running into a series of big problems. For instance politics are giving her problems. Another problem she is having is either claiming an underground route or forging through the monsters and undead to get that route to her HQ.

Either case are going to be a real pain in Nova's ass.

She is also having to beat off potential suitors like no tomorrow and is dealing with troublesome neighbors and rivals who are angling on her. Unfortunately for them they got no idea how extensive the connections Nova has in the underworld and her other unsavory contacts. A lot of the troublemakers who came out after Nova started to suddenly suffer some massive problems. Mostly in the form of suddenly active undead and lots of banditry along with other problems.

Her official base is the Hall of Harlose which is where she is 'officially' headquartered. Its on the borders of a lake fed by nearby mountains and forests. It has one of three villages under Nova's official control. A lumber village, fishing(HQ is here), and mining village. If you haven't noticed all three are such that they enable her to 'explain' the raw materials she brings in. Now if they actually sent an assessor to take a closer look they would quickly realize that none of the locations can produce what she claims they produce.

The odds of that happening are minuscule however as all of them are so far away as to not be worth especially as she pays her taxes on time. Unsurprisingly she lies on her taxes.

Currently Nova is busy entrenching herself on her lands before she starts to make some big moves. Meanwhile she is also busy politicking as someone who is hot, young as lots of land and potential wealth she is a very tempting target. Especially once you realize she is purposefully putting on a front of weakness.

She isn't ready for people to know her full capabilities so she is busy playing along.

According to her private records she has some big plans and much hidden potential. Officially on the other hand its a very different story as she purposefully hides it yet at the same times needs to look tempting.

There is also for some reason a certain mess labeled "Death Knights, Orders, and Kingdoms." STAMPED with AVIS. Quite large I may add.

For some reason it would Nova needs you for something...

There is another stamped letter saying to introduce you to the bookkeeper who apparently keeps the records.

Another stamped letter to see the 'War Martial' for AVIS. In truth they are all capitalized.

Another stamped letter to see the Spymaster.

A letter AGAINST you seeing the whatever the fuck Institute is.

At the bottom of the stack was a love letter from Nova. It first begins with matters to how much he missed you before...it getting dirtier the further down you go. It mostly serves to warm two parts of your body. It is sad to think that letter is the only personal letter from Nova to you that is in the entire stack.

Underneath that letter is a letter from Nova about going to see Vek. For some reason this one has been heavily torn up before being put back together again with a stamp of MAYBE.

Beyond the letters from Nova's dealings. You also got a letter about missing the adventurer expo but to not worry as there is going to be another one next year. You got a school reenlistment letter. Two in fact at first you thought it was a mix up until you took a closer look. Looks like the other shadow school snuck a letter to you using their own competition! Gotta hand it to them they got some serious skill. For some reason though Nova didn't seem a fan...maybe you should ask her about that.

Both letters are invites. The school letter warns you that should you agree you would no longer be allowed to take classes in the basic academy and should you seek additional schooling it would be from your own pocket.

The shadow letter however states that Boss Bascov has agreed to cover your school fee in exchange for them denying you being a student there. In other words if you agree...the academy wont know about it. They also admit to being a very shady school teaching all manner of shady things and dealings with the underworld. Apparently they have some very nice assassin programs among others that they think an adventurer would like.

Your last letter received was from friends. Saying it was a shame you missed their trip but they hoped that your mentor would teach you some kick ass things to show them and make up for them.

That brings your attention to the three bags that now stand before you. One is from Nova. The other two you brought back with you. One you can tell was from Gulgix but you don't know about the other. The two bags contained letters. Some were for you and some asked you to bring them to others.

Oddly enough Nova has a letter saying she wants you to give to your friends so as to arrange a meetup and possible work.

You went up on a high high overlooking the city and thought about life. More precisely your very much screwed up life that you know probably wont get better. Still at the very least maybe you can work on leveling that playing field. Do some good before spending time with your evil lover.

After all your an adventurer and want to be a hero.

What do?
>Stay till Nova arrives
>So about that Shadow recruiter ass Nova kicked...
>Go back to the city
>Dungeon raid
>Other?
>>
>>657919
First off mushroom wand, what do you do?
Secondly why exactly can't we be an anti hero? A do gooder that has his own goals and incentives. So far our only goal is strength but imagine that we talk nova into turning the dungeon into a literal fungeon a place where adventurers can come and practice get shit loot and pay to enter, obviously we would need retainer in case somebody dies and they need to be revived we could provide that also maybe a gambling aspect, make it past certain sections and you can be either ported out or double down for a chance to go deeper, we would also have guide mercenaries to help at an additional cost nova obviously will be the end boss.. Also I would think that we would encourage solo adventurers to try utilizing us as they likely will have strange skills, we could also use this to recruit oddball adventurers that have been cast out. Almost like a hands on school or an adventure boot camp for the dirty adventurers.
Hell we could even offer tours to espiring dungeon masters or offer safe haven to rotguts
>>
Rolled 66 (1d100)

>>659179
Its a wand that unleashes a magic blast and curse effect in addition to boosting your deathly nature magic.

A lot of shady adventurers can be considered anti hero. So long as they don't piss their fellow adventurers off they'll be fine. While adventurers have quite the strong independent streak they know better then to turn their backs on each other. They also do a decent job of policing themselves.

Registered Dungeons like that are restricted and rare. They DO exist however the one dungeon underneath the city where your academy is located is one of them.

Your school does hands on training and they break the rules all the time in terms of what they are allowed to teach. Problem is someone goes after them for that they'll have more then just a school whose faculty are 'retired' adventurers to worry about. Hence why they can get away with it.

You would have to talk to Nova about that sorta thing. Rotguts have their own support system in place. It helps their boss is the notorious Gulgix.
>>
>>659112
Question.
If we go to shadow school can we still pay out of our pocket and attend a more heroic school?
>>
Rolled 5 (1d100)

>>659354
You can.

The adventure scholarship your currently enjoying only covers basic and one advanced schooling. Anything more and its out of your pocket.

The adventure scholarship is a very popular and extremely well supported scholarship. Lot of adventurers put a decent chunk of their earnings to help prepare up and coming adventurers.

The same is true for the independent adventure orphanages whom are supported by former orphans turned adventurers. It really helped turn that sorta thing around.

Before it used to be the only decent support you could expect to find were religious orphanages and the odd often poor quality independent or government sponsored.

Adventurers for all their often mixed reputation are known to be big supporters of orphans and schooling.

Go to Nova.

Take a 'gap year' from our studies.

Ask Nova to take a long break from her politics too.

We. . .never really got the chance to live together. As in, really live together as a couple. She was off growing her power-base, we were off at school or focusing on adventuring. Yes, we'd always visit and so would she but in such brief and sweet moments only.

We never really got the chance to just live together, so now we'll take it. Find a nice tropical place, away from Vek, away from politics and adventure, and just enjoy each other. More importantly, get to know each other. Talk about our histories, our feelings, do something fun together.

We'd like to learn about her, how she grew up, her life story, get to /know/ her, and talk to her about us too. Our bond will be more than just a ring, or mere physical love, we want to really become familiar with each other.

One day she'll be a powerful lady of a vast estate and forces at her command. One day, we'll be her loyal husband doing her bidding, running around the realm to bring prosperity to our holdings.

But for now, let's just be together. Enjoy some time where we don't have to worry about responsibilities, powers, dungeons, adventures. Just us.

We should discuss future plans. When does she want to have children, and if she does, how would we raise them? . . .does she want to extend our lives like Molly or Mosley?

Tell her we would like to go on a great adventurer and do some good, just once, and then when we have conquered, we come back and never leave again. We'd go to shadow school and a heroic school, do some grand quest, bring a little light into the world, and then find rest in the darkest pits of her dungeon.

There is suppose to be a limit!

You know WHY I provided an evil waifu at the start?

It was to prevent a short end that involved waifuing the BBEG and seducing them when anons realized the Genie wasn't about to make it that easy. Thereby skipping the ENTIRE fucking plot.

Yet you bastards DID IT AGAIN!

The entire fucking point this time was to struggle with the forbidden love and do adventuring/dungeon management while working over the difficulties for LOVE!

...Then you just HAD to be smart about it and work out all the fucking problems and CRIT IT.

ARGH.

Why do my waifu fags have to be so smart about it...I SWEAR NEXT TIME THERE IS GOING TO BE A HAREM OF BITCHES! AND UNLIKE OTHER HAREMS THESE WOMEN WILL FUCKING HATE EACH OTHER AND THEN WE'LL SEE HOW YOU GET OUT OF THAT!

Fuck the closest thing I got to easy romance from you bastards was goddamn Petyr and Abigail? You know what happened? Anons decided Hey guys how many genres do you think we can jump before the Genie breaks?

Hey about the we avoid the whole WAR focus unless we break the entire war game because we tactical GENIUS so hard!

FUU-

WHY DO YOU THINK THAT THERE WAS EVEN FORBIDDEN LOVE IN THE GODDAMN TITLE?

YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO RESOLVE WHAT IS LITERALLY IN THE FUCKING TITLE SO EASILY!

I can't believe it happened again...yet to be honest i really should of seen this coming.

So FINE you win AGAIN WITH THE SAME FUCKING BULLSHIT!

Why do you KEEP making it the power of fucking LOVE defeats all and MAKE IT KEEP HAPPENING.

I don't even TRY to make this so sappy and romantic BUT FUCK.

YOU WIN!

Avis and Nova proceeded to take a gap year where they go on vacation to know each other better. On a nice tropical island at that.

There away from everything they enjoyed each other and more importantly got to know each other better.

There they came to an agreement and mutual understanding. Making sure to have all their problems figured out so as if they could not be resolved now then later.

They also discussed future plans such as children, how to raise them, and whether or not to extend their lives.

Thus the problems regarding the forbidden romance were hence resolved and thus an early end to this quest was concluded(again).

Meanwhile in a certain unknown location a losing Genie proceeded to tear up all its plans setting them fire before going off to corner to pout.

>>660066
SEE the Genie is even using EMOTES >>659981

Anyway questions as per game end tradition?

>>660066
Yeah well I thought I learned my lesson too during the Modalvania arc.

...The Genie underestimated the power of love. Again.

also the thing that is LITERALLY in the title got resolved. So...yeah.

On the plus side at least its prettier looking then what happened to Modalvania.

As reward for concluding the quest you gain a fate point.

Love related completion nets you a LOVE boon.

Also an extra two of each because of back during the Modalvania the Genie was too butthurt to remember.

So 2 LOVE boons total and 2 fatepoints.

Total of 9 fate points and 2 love boons.

Reward for early completions shall be another 2 boons.

You could but it would waste the win.

Nova is from a heavily suppressed minority. Bad Things happened to her home and she took refuge with Vek whom she helped before. Vek since started really suggesting stuff to her and she fell in with Boo. Back then she was disguised as a boy with a talent for magic.

It sort of went from there.

Avis i debated between making an orphan or not. Either way he got the scholarship and wanted to become a adventurer.

>>660587
Nova wanted kids earlier in case Avis got himself killed too soon. She ended up winning that one.

They fought a lot about the how to raise them but eventually agreed to see what the kids would choose.

Life extension was still up in the air. Nova pushed for it sooner so she wouldn't grow old. Avis was a bit more laidback about it.

Pssht. You act like we play these games for the joy of winning, rather than for the fun of exploring the shit you come up with and breaking it . This quest was really fun, Avis was only beginning to get into some really neat things, and probably the best reward for having resolved the main plot early is to let us just dick around and pursue our own goals as an ADVENTURER because that's fun as hell all on its own.

When it got resolved I don't have anything that will work in its place.

So the Genie lost.

>>660668
As for an epilogue.

Nova as she wanted had kids early. In their early years Avis was largely gone experiencing adventurers and completing grand quests. At times he did come home but it wasn't very long before he ran off once more.

Nova for her part continued to expand her reach and successfully developed a route. Using her new stronghold she established a kingdom and successfully waged wars. After that however Nova seemed to occupy herself with family as she made future plans...

The two ended up living an oddly long lifespan as Nova convinced her lover to take the life extensions. Which is a good thing given Vek had already secretly dosed Nova with life extenders. The two of them wouldn't become active again till many years later...

Their recent fates are alas unknown and lost to the sands of history.
