You are students at the Muidos academy. The academy has four major lines of learning for students to choose from, science, physical training, mental training, ethereal manipulation and the arts. Muidos is not a regular place, humans are a minority here. Describe your character and choose where to go for your first class. Keep in mind that compared to other races, humans learn slowly. A humans only advantage is unlimited advancement, which could take decades to achieve what others do in a few months.

sup. what do i do here?
>>
>>469193
>Mental Training
>Ethereal Manipulation
>Arts
Could you please clarify these a little? Otherwise, I am forced to presume Mental Training is some sort of protection against magic stuff, Ethereal Manipulation is literally controlling ghosts, and Arts is like swordsmanship or something.
>>
>>471719
Ah, for one I missed a couple, there is also animal training and combatant applications. As for those three, mental training has to do with psionics, ethereal manipulation is basically magic, and arts is quite simply the arts, singing, dancing, musical instruments, acting, etcetera.
>>
>>471609
Just describe a student to attend Muidos academy, and state what their first class will be.
>>
>>471609
>>471719
Do you at least have any parting suggestions?
>>
>>469193
'Female', at least in her original form, doppelganger, that studies science, mental training and ethereal manipulation. Her appereance is whatever she chooses to be, but she usually appears as a pale. redhaired girl with freckles across her nose.

Extreme emotion states changes her appearence accordingly, i.e rage changes her hair red etc.

She is your residence book hoarder and nobody trusts her because of her race. She mildly believes herself to be superior compared to her peers because of her race and because of

Her first class today in ethereal manipulation.
>>
>>473735
>She mildly believes herself to be superior compared to her peers because of her race and because of
her having more knowledge/being smarter than her peers.
>>
>>473735
Magic and science clash in interesting ways, more than simply magic causing chaos in the function of machines, any object propelled by rapid combustion tend to seek out nearby sources of magical flux, usually mages. There is a wide variety of technology that is banned in the EM wing and mages are outright barred from the science wing. Sorry to tell you this detail rather late, but I didn't want to deter anyone, I'm not saying you can't, but the rules and regulations will make it difficult. it is possible for a doppelganger to decide whether to emit flux, but there would still be paperwork and some difficulty getting from one class to another.

The day cycle is split into 6 sections: morning, noon, afternoon, evening, night, and early morning. most races need to sleep for two of these, usually night and early morning. The doppelganger's (name required) first class is in the ethereal manipulation wing, noon. What, exactly, would you like to learn in the way of magic? If you are unsure, energy pathing is a good catch all while you decide.
>>
>>473864
Her name is............ Elise.

What does energy pathing mean?

In this magic system, does mathematics and physics give one an extra edge?
>>
>>473886
Allright Elise, energy pathing is the manipulation of the ether to make something more likely to follow a specific path. Mathematics help, knowledge of physics doesn't effect your casting much, you may have an easier time knowing how a certain spell will effect the environment, you may just get confused with how things aren't doing what they normally would.
>>
>>473886
And her lastname is Hroldisson. She is a orphan, but was adopted by a powerful family of modern vikings. She first showed her true nature at age 13, but hopefully her family was accepting.
>>
>>473912
Okay, so energy pathing it is.

Regarding energy pathing, if I wanted a ball to curve, I manipulate the arc and kinetic energy of the ball?

And is runes a thing? Like inscribing runes into a floor so that it cleans itself?
>>
>>473925
I feel demented. I meant that if I wanted to throw a ball and curve its path.
>>
>>473915
All characters are assumed to have a basic education upon entry to the academy. There won't be basic science in the science wing, mostly biology and robotics up in there. Applied whatnots.
>>473925
Yes, that is one application of energy pathing, runes is another class, it's something you would learn in enchanting. You may also be interested in animation, the factor of causing things to move, it differs from energy pathing in that it applies the motive force, not simply adjusts it's direction.
>>
>>473992
Okay, here we go.

Engineering, maths and physics.

Energy pathing, animation and enchanting.

Now, at last, we can begin the story. Can we?
>>
>>474010
(I'm in my engineering phase. Tomorrow I'll probably be obsessed about bioengineering, but tonight I'll dream of lasguns.)
>>
>>474010
>>474018
Sorry, turn crunch.

Elise Hroldisson:
Doppelganger
Ethereal manipulation: Energy pathing(1)

It is now afternoon, you can take another class or do something else, perhaps sign up for combatant applications (meets exclusively at evenings) take a break, fill out your restricted access application, or maybe try and make friends.
>>
>>474047
Talk to other students and be social, there's no way Elise can take over the academy without making a couple of allies!
>>
>>474047
What is combatant applications and what is a restricted access? Sorry if this is common knowledge.
Friends are a no, since noone trust someone that can turn into them and then rape someone.

Maybe take another class, but I'd like to know what those two things are before doing that.
>>
>>474060
That is true. I second this. We shall make 'friends' and forge them into allies that can be used as fuel in the fires of wars. Father will be pleased.
>>
>>474061
Combatant applications is were you will learn to make use of the things you learned in a combat situation. the restricted access thing is how you will get access to both magic and science wings.
>>474060
Please make your own character.
>>474069
Is this final?
>>
>>474102
First, get into combat applictations, since it only meets at the evenings. After that, get restricted access.

And can't we just have one character? It would really clog up the thread to have multiple characters. The choice is yours, just giving my opinion.
>>
>>474125
Well, most of the not in class action was meant to be between different players. Myself mostly running non-students. Anyways, you approach the arena to apply for CA. The guy behind the counter warns you that there won't be much for you to do before you get something done in classes. He can try to get some flames flowing with that small amount of energy pathing you've taken, but you won't be able to hurt anything with it, much less defend yourself.
>>
>>474188
Try to butter him up. A teacher would be a powerful ally. Try to get restricted access into both the science and magic wings instead.
>>
>>474207
>instead
I never said you couldn't get access to CA, simply that the guy suggested that you shouldn't attend right away. Anyways, signing up for restricted access (magic/science) takes a freakishly long time. It partially cuts into your evening.

Elise Hroldisson:

It is now evening.
>>
>>474234
Let's take an animation class. Then we'll start to make allies and friends.
>>
I'll change my name to something more appropriate. Should I write my post in-character, and should all meta-stuff be in spoilers?
>>
>>474338
Suren that'll definitely help immersion. >>474295
You arrive late and draw the ire of the proffessor. Other than that, the class is rather standard. (Animation takes mana, one of the draw backs of this craft)
>>
>>474370
I go to the nearest toilet after class, opening the door with my new animation abilites. I concentrate on my appearence and change it, not too much so that I won't be recognized, but enough to make me conventionally beautiful so that my diplomatic efforts later will be easier.

I then walk to the cafeteria, and survey the area. There, a potential ally worthy of my attention. It's ...! Here's where you come in, mister Jestre
>>

Congratulations, you've arrived in the cafeteria just in time to catch the blood suckers having lunch. One of them is separated from the rest, and not in a sparkly, faux vampire sort of way either.
>>

I go to the biggest clique and ask what's wrong with the loony kid.
>>

They shut up fast, one says one word, "necromancer" and they just seem to be waiting for you to leave.
>>

I back away. Necromancers are unstable and powerful. Later, I'll gather more information about him, but for now I'll stay away. I go to my dormroom and sleep.

*Sigh* You get the attention of one "John Weramai" a sylvan centaur, or cervitaur, who brags that he's in advanced falconry and combatant applications. You can expect his falcon to intercede should you get in a fight, and John to intercede should your honor be smeared?
>>

Another energy pathing class would be nice, I decide, and stroll there with my centaur as an escort, and making sure I show off my poise and eloquence along the way. >>

I go with John to catch dinner, but at the same time I make subtle inquiries about popular girls in the academy.

Yes, please make a new one, or take John if you want. But that infatuation is a powerful hindrance
>>474978
dinner is in the cafeteria, John is having some kind of granola thing. As for popular girls, well, there's successful popular, and then there's bitchy popular.
>>
>>475034
Okay.

Let's stay away from the populars for a while. I guess it's evening, right?

Let's go kick some ass at CA.
>>
I'll be going to sleep now, since it's 3 am here. Anyways, see y'all tomorrow. OP, please post when you'll be posting later.
>>

Not quite, time segments are 4 hours long, you've only had dinner, it's taken up 2 hours at most. You still have lots of time.
>>
>>475093
Oh, sorry, I suppose what your stats will be tomorrow morning is fairly well set up.
>>
New character then.

Faerie (Or whatever they're called. The human sized ones)
Name: Earthen Iris. Calls himself Jack because he hates his actual name. Insists others do too. Seriously, who calls their child that.
Hair: Long, Blonde
Eyes: Brown
Appearance: Slender, but muscular. Has wings that can be manifested, but he doesn't because he has a complex about how fruity he looks with them out. He'd rather climb 100 flights of stairs than use his wings, which is why he's muscular. Slightly taller than a human. Has pointy ears.

Has basic knowledge of plant growth magics from his family.

How's this, Jestre?

I know that to have access to magic AND science, I need a restricted access. I want to have that.

And I have to go to the gym, so I can't post for a while.
>>
>>475308
That requires special circumstances as well as a lot of paperwork. I'm afraid that faerie wouldn't ever be allowed in the science wing, excepting extremely exceptional circumstances. circumstances that you most certainly don't apply for.
>>
>>475389
Sorry for the inconvenience. It is simply too dangerous.
>>

>>
>>476490
Good evening Jestre
>>
>>476490
If it's still evening in the game, I'll probably see what is happening around the cafeteria. If it's night, probably sleep until morning.
>>
>>476501
The cafeteria is crowded in the evenings, only time it is. The only people not having an evening meal are slightly preoccupied by CA. Maybe a few are taking advantage of the quiet as well. At any rate, you aren't finding any combatants in the cafeteria right now.
>>
>>476531
I'm not looking for combatants. I'm looking for some people doing magical studies to become friends with. Someone with similar interests to me is always good to have as a friend, socially and knowledge-wise.

Oh right, main classes are Ethereal Manipulation, Physical Training and Mental Training, in that order. I want to study Ethereal Manipulation to strengthen the "soul" aspect of myself, Physical Training to strengthen the "body" aspect and Mental Training to strengthen the "mind" aspect.

I'm curious as to what Ethereal Manipulation can do as far as that goes, and what crossover can occur between soul, body and mind. For classes, what would be good things to study in relation to such things?
>>
Rolled 70 (1d100)

>>476531
If I'm still at CA I'd like to try, during the sparrings (if such a thing exists here), to attempt to trip my oppenent by animating their feet and then blasting them with my fire pathing, thus ending the spar.

rolling for maneuver, I guess
>>
>>476546
Uh. I've been basing this on what you want to do, I'm afraid I haven't the slightest clue what you're on about. Anyways, there are plenty of mages, really, there isn't very much of a personality type that goes with "mage" or scientist or psion or stronkman or animal trainer or anything really.
>>476635
Well ho Lee chit I guess it works, what, pray tell, we're you trying to accomplish, other than completing a combat.
>>
>>476686
Sorry, I'm not the best at explaining myself. Am I right to think of "magic" being different to "psionics"? And if so, how do they differ in this setting?

"Jack wants to get to know some mages because mages know magic, and he's learning magic too, so maybe they can get along." Is what I am trying to say.

Is there a magic user in the dining hall who appears to be the quiet/shy type?
>>
>>476714
>Am I right to think of "magic" being different to "psionics"? And if so, how do they differ in this setting?
Yes, and they differ in that psionics have to do with brute forcing your will onto the world, you mentally grab an object, or shout your thoughts at people, or improve your ability to pick up and interpret signals from others, whereas magic is more involved, requiring it's own energy (commonly referred to as "mana") to apply the effects, even if that energy isn't expended.
>>
>>476714
>Is there a magic user in the dining hall who appears to be the quiet/shy type?
Indeed, there is one [s]vampire[/s] normal human sitting over in the corner.
>>
>>476789
I'll go over and chat with them. I want to make a friend.
>>
>>476686
The ugly faun girl I'm sparring against advances towards me. I, in a split second decision decide to throw my weapon at her to have more time for casting my spells.

As she deflects the staff I was handed by the instructor with her shield I start on the basic kinetic spell I was taught in animation class. Three seconds later and five meters closer the faun slips, because of my kinetic spell overextending her step.

She falls on her nose and a scream emerges from her lying figure. I start on my finishing spell, a simple, but effective, fire-pathing spell and aims it on her head. A tendril of flame sneaks it's way through my palm and onto the floor. Like a snake it slithers on the floor until it leaps over the fauns head, and the flame ignites the ugly faun's ugly pigtails.

Her screams grow louder as her hair is scorched away and visible, although not serious, burn wounds emerge on her head.

I bump my fist in the air.
>>
>>476823
She has a snail on the desk, she will try to cast a spell, the snail will shrivel up, and she will curse quietly to herself while the snail regenerates.
>>
>>476831
While the snail is regenerating, so as to not disturb her concentration, I'll go over and introduce myself and ask what she's doing.
>>
>>476829
But, why? Achievement what? You are warned that you're kinda supposed to stop just before injuring your opponent while sparing. Achievement get, firey sociopath.
>>476838
"I'm trying to make it grow, but it'sjust wrong!"
>>
>>476852
Yeah, firey sociopath!

Waiting for turn, I guess.
>>
>>476852
"Have you tried using (reinforcement spell)? I've got some knowledge of Vita Reinforcement in plants, perhaps with a bit of tweaking, that can be adjusted for animals?"

I consider casting magic on the snail, but wait for her answer before doing anything.
>>
>>476870
"I've been, something's wrong, I- don't do it for me, I'm trying to figure out how it's done!"
>>
>>476890
Can I try and figure out what's happening with her magic?
>>
>>476914
Well, you can't see what is going on directly, but any mage knows that on the magical level, shriveling is the exact opposite of growing when it comes to life.
>>
>>476927
I figured it wasn't as simple as "do that same spell, but the opposite."

But, if that's what it is, I guess I'll tell her to take some time to catch her breath and when she comes back, I ask her how much life energy she's putting into the spell, to subtly hint to giving life, not taking away.
>>
I try to help the girl by demonstrating how it works on a plant, and explain how I do it. I try to befriend her and, if she's my friend, I'll hang out with her.

The actual me is going to bed, so my character is on autopilot while that happens. Hang out with friend, go to magic classes to give me more knowledge on Vitae spells, phys ed classes to train the body to break up the monotony of practicing magic. That's my day plan. I don't know if I would need to roll for anything, but I trust Jestre to do that for me. You seem cool.

Technological constructions, if you have the requisite knowledge, follow what is possible with what you know. For example engineering 1 (electrical) will allow you to make a flashlight. Magical theory will make you slightly quicker at learning, but will not effect your limit. such an entity would indeed be able to shift from fully incorpral to manifest quite easily, not at will fast though. It would also, however, be incapable of any for of education, at the very least it would be very slow learner .5 per class at the very most.
