In the City, gazing at the stars was a hazardous pastime. As the ebb
and flow of reality spiralled around its centre, the sky glimmered like oil
in a pool of water. Banded rainbows of energy, dancing geometric
shapes and sworling glimpses of glowing nebulae twisted their way
across the eternal night. Strange stars glittered and shook, crawling like
ants or winking out of sight, only to appear again in a different swatch
of impermanent darkness. The sight was intensely hypnotic; many
wise men, determined to finally map the strange warping constellations,
had gone utterly mad in the attempt. It was said that the vault of
skittering stars could snatch away one's soul. The twilight was pierced
by the backglow of the bustling metropolis, neon and hologram and fey
illusion melding into a turbulent grey haze. Blocky hover-vehicles,
clockwork flying machines, winged mounts and undulating dragons
soared between the vast avenues between titanic skyscrapers,
festooned with advertisements and public vid-screens. Great, slow
glaciers of midnight would obscure an occasional twinkling cluster of
light, the only sign of the leviathan shipping barges on their ponderous,
never-ending journey. The great City was the nexus of trade, the
capital of adventure; anything could be bought or sold here, and the
only Law was what the corporate masters could enforce within their
individual domains.
Your soul has been spun in the Wheel of Fate, and you have been elected to be reborn as a high-resource power in one of the most turbulent places in the Multiverse.
We begin the story after your twenty-eighth year of life within the City.

Synthetic, but partially constructed from living material, wherever genetic modification or a magical being's organs are superior to the apex of technological achievement in that area.
This is the "kick ass, take names" option. Something a common citizen or traveller has no chance of defeating in spontaneous single combat without the aid of military hardware.
