You awoke early, before your alarm clock, and you are feeling alert. This is far from your typical morning self, but then again very little feels typical. As you sit up in bed, you are drawn to your feet and begin to dress without even thinking. Your mind is totally free of any concern, replaced fully by a total rightness unlike any you have felt before. You step out your front door without a second thought into the slowly breaking dawn. The sun has yet to appear, but you walk down the street. Your house could be any other in this neighborhood, a suburb of a city whose name you cannot seem to recall despite living in its shadow your entire life. The streets and sidewalks are totally vacant, and a pervasive silence is your only companion. There are no birds, no crickets, only thick air.
As the sun begins its peak over the horizon, you feel an ineffable presence take hold of your mind and stop dead in the empty street. The sense of rightness which brought you here climaxes into a new depth, touching into a vast sea of its like for but an instant before vanishing from your mind. You become frightened for an instant, suddenly recognizing the reality of your situation. As you come to awareness, there is nothing around you. Most disturbingly, there is also nothing within you. It seems that your past and present have been stripped from you, as has all identity.
You hover in darkness, with no body in sight, and then you feel words form within you.
Be thou not afraid
And your apprehension vanishes from you. You begin to formulate a question as to your location, but as the spark of the thought begins to form, you are filled with answers. You are chosen, your will shall direct the dawn of a new age. You are the Emperor, chosen by divine mandate to rule over a new kingdom of your own making, and you will be elevated to a stature required to meet this task. Everything else is up to you. Your body and mind have been separated. You are certain you can recreate your body in its old form, but something else may be suitable. Your mind appears to have been wiped clean, but you feel its old vestiges at the edge of your consciousness may be within reach.

You stand amidst broken tree branches and feel no pain from your fall. You walk up to one of the tents, its further away than the others and near the sedan. You creep up slowly, carefully avoiding branches and other obstacles which might give you away. You listen for any sound which may indicate wakefulness, but only hear the deep and slow breathing of nine sleeping people around you. You dare not enter the tent before you, instead checking the car and finding it unlocked. Inside you find a duffel bag filled with clothing and some other items. You put on a pair of blue jeans and a loose, hooded sweatshirt, but you don't find any shoes. The true face in your torso is uncomfortable against the fabric, but you figure it will be bearable. You also find a crowbar, some socks, two large bottles of water, and three protein bars.
Looking at yourself in the front passenger-side mirror, you take stock of your face. Your facial penis has contracted in the cold of the early morning, you think it could easily pass for a deformity, and your testicles are easily obscured in this state by simply tucking your chin. You could also try using some of the clothing to cover yourself.
