Sometimes, purpose is enough.

Old iron flesh twitches under the moon, filled with ancient bones and dusty remains of the one who bore it. It rattles like dice as it rises. The iron groans, rust of ages flaking off as untested joints scrape against one another and the wear and tear of time tests the mettle of this metal.

A sword is lifted, and though half of the blade is broken away, it still holds a cracked, pitted edge. A shield is hefted, though worn and scarred, it still has some use left. The old armor looks over itself, a hole in its chest the size of its palm - on the front and the back. The skeleton inside,, held in place by strapping and padding, is obliterated within.

Superior firepower. Some kind of betrayal. A warning of less than an eyeblink. And then it was over. An old shame, a fearful worry. Was that all it took?

That's not what matters now.

But... What does?

>This armor must find the home of the bones within, and lay them to rest.
>This armor must find the one who ended the life of its owner, and destroy them.
>This armor must find the glory its owner never knew.
>This armor does not care about the past - it seeks a new future, alone.

seek new future alone
>>
>>44983

There is a whisper in your mind - the brass horns of the charge, and the chaos that followed. Bravery that flared like the sun, but was extinguished too soon.

Why not combine them? Pay respects to the man who sacrificed it all, and then do what he could not to honor the memory of life?
>>
Glory.

What is glory, but immortality in the tales and memories of others? If that is the definition, then these bones knew none - there is no marker for its happenstance grave, no indication of valor found. No one dead near, even. The field stretches on, a half-ruined castle behind the armor with a hole in the wall. This corpse is either the only one to die, or the only one left - either possibility is odd. The armor rubs its helm in contemplation.

Very well - let this armor seek the memory of its owner, then find glory anew. First of all, whence is this owner from? Where did they call home? And how to find this information...

>Look for a road nearby, follow it.
>Investigate the ruins.
>Investigate the battlefield.
>Seek out other bodies more carefully.

>Investigate the battlefield.
>Seek out other bodies more carefully.

Who fought here, and why? Maybe we'd remember some details better if we found a clue.
>>
>>45169
>>45161

First of all, the battlefield must be inspected. It is foggy, with high grass that hid the bodies at first glance. Gathering a few reveals a few things.

There was two groups fighting here - one with an emblem of a bull, the other with the emblem of a coin. No names. A better sword, though - a long, curved thing, probably belonging to an officer, whose head is missing.

The armor touches its gorget with a measure of amused pride.

But aside from the small grouping of corpses here and there - maybe a hundred - there is no one. No road leads here, it seems, and none leads out.

The ruins offer a much more interesting find. More bodies here, those of the emblem of the Bull, almost entirely. Less armored, the deeper in the armor trundles, though the ruins hold up surprisingly well. In a large hall is the scene of the greatest massacre - nothing but rotten clothes and bones, broken furniture, and a shattered stone throne. Cracked squarely in half, a strange-shaped hammer lies broken just nearby, seemingly made of gold and silver, ornate.

What could have happened here? At the top of the throne is a split sigil of a rearing bull.

But there is nothing on the walls, nothing in the shelves - this place has been raided almost entirely.

>Move on onto the surrounding woods.
>Take the broken hammer.
>Inspect the throne more closely.
>Some other action...

>Take the broken hammer.
>Inspect the throne more closely.

The old marks of a King or a Prince? Did our old master fight for or against the men of the bull?
>>
>>45397
>>45402
The hammer is heavy, but the head is bent oddly from the handle. Still, the designs on it - of coins, mostly - may bear relevance. The sword found earlier fits easily into a sheath near the body.

The armor looks over itself, and finds an insignia of the Bull upon the shoulder - inspecting it with a mirror reveals a gash in the metal that bisects the emblem. It is still recognizable, but...

"I keep telling you - there's nothing here." says a voice, the door of the ruin pulled aside by an interloper. "You're searching these ruins for nothing that has not been seen before."

"No one's come to this ruin, boy." an older voice states. "Now pick your way over those corpses and help me with this shelf. We must not leave a stone unturned."

"...Of course, father..."

>Approach the newcomers.
>Attempt to leave without being seen.
>Prepare for combat.
>Some other action.
>>
>>45761

Drop the hammer and lay over it, motionless.

A boy and his father - no need for violence here.
>>
>>45761
>Attempt to leave without being seen.
I don't think that there is any way to communicate with these peasants. They will just get spooked
>>
>>45761
Approach the newcomers.
If we threaten them with the hammer they'll probably run away.
>>
>>45850
>>46142
>>46206
On the one hand, the armor would rather they would leave. On the other, the armor knows - it can't really communicate with them. So, failing to find a reasonable way to frighten them away without bringing some sort of response on the armor's helm...

It falls over, going to the ground, hammer beneathe it.

"Well, I'll be damned." says the father, leaning over the armor. "A full suit of Imperial armor! Worth a damned fortune, most likely. Gah, if only the emblem weren't split like all the damned others..."

"I don't think you should touch it, Father. There's something off about it."

"Yeah, like the fact that the padding hasn't rotted away." he said, frowning. "Look, I'm sure the Capital would appreciate this piece a great deal. Let's consider this our find, study it and deliver it."

"But-"

"Listen, I've had it up to here with your damned fancies. We're archeologists, by gum! Facts! Evidence! Not these bedamned 'gut feelings'! Now pick up the damned armor and let's get on."

"Yes, father." the young man reaches out...

>Some other action...
>>
>>46619
Push him away and leg it.
>>
>>46643

Backing. The scare alone should teach them a lesson about robbing old castles.
>>
>>46619
swat his hand away
>>
>>46619
Play along for now. As long as they show no ill intent, we might be able to learn from them. After all, they said they were archaeologists looking for facts and evidence
>>
>>46619
Twitch or something, try to seem haunted but not necessarily aggressive, just terrifying. They'll run for the hills.
>>
>>46643
>>46649
>>48046
>>46650
The armor pushes the hand away, rising, as the two back away from it. The young man reaches behind him, but you push him away and flee, stumbling through the open door. Looking hastily around, it spots a large carriage, an insignia on the side - a sleeping lion.

Commotion rises inside the building, the young man running out holding a short weapon - maybe as long as two of his hands - that looks like some sort of crossbow.
"Son, hold your horses!"

Speaking of horses, there's one hitched to the wagon...

>run away the way the carriage came.
>Leap into the carriage and steal it.
>Just steal the horse.
>Signal surrender.
>Some other action.
>>
>>48083
>>Signal surrender.
Still think these archaeologists are our best bet at finding out the past of our deceased wearer

>Signal surrender

These people are paid to know about history, they must know something about what happened here.

Also, what if we want to fix ourself? Will we just have to patch the holes or move somehow to a new set of armor? Can we take master's body with us if so?
>>
>>48083
>Signal surrender.

Probably best to not make any enemies just yet, plus they might be of some help.
>>
>>48083
>signal surrender and see if we can just not get shot
>>
So, we were on the side of the Split Bulls, fighting against the Coins. We died outside, defending our keep from the Coins.
>>
On the off chance that the QM comes back:

Surrender by kneeling and placing your helmet on the ground. Sit still and listen to what they say.
