The year is 3610-SSD (Standard Space Date)

Galactic empires have risen and prospered, from the Praetorians within the Protocorate to the Bentusi Kingdom and the Skandom Kingdom. However the expansion of these empires was halted by a massive galactic wall of flux. A fluctuation of reality itself, within the last seven hundred years passing through thin areas of this flux became possible by ramming through it with massive force keeping the craft from stalling within the corrosive like effect the flux has.

After passing through the wall of flux ships will then enter the fringe, an area of space that has not been touched by known civilisations. Recently massive corporations such as Galspan have been sponsoring ships to explore, map, research and discover things within the fringe.

You are the captain of a unsponsored craft, a D class vessel that holds up to 300 hundred crew members. We start with your customisation of this ship and crew.

Furthermore you must decide on the good captains race.

Terran (Hooman) - Terrans take up around 10% of the entire population of the Protectorate. Most of them live in safe central quadrants of the Protectorate. When discovered they were initially enslaved by the Praetorians for around three hundred years before being released and then integrated into the galactic community. Surprisingly they are also the only known species to have kept a concept of religion. Their origin planet is Earth (Quadrant Alpha)

Praetorian - Are the oldest race, holding an appearance akin to that of anthropomorphic wolves. Praetorians are the most common population of the Protectorate consisting of around 72%. Their home planet is Praetora (Quadrant Omega).

Skandom - Rat-like species obsessed with cleanness. Due to a high mutation rate and the resulting sterility the race systematically kills any of the mutant babies if their genome is over 0.5% of the original gene seed. They are a Matriarchal Species that have empowered AI's as their royalty and leaders.Their origin planet was called Kolonplanka (Quadrant Kappa) and then it was destroyed by Skandoms themselves, when they realised they could no longer hold it in a war against the Bentusi Kingdom.

Bentusi - These are anthropomorphic flightless Birds. They are talented pilots, they have very convoluted names, a first name which is known by all, a name of which friends refer to them and lastly a family name, only given to those extremely close. A major benefit is that they can never Critically fail a Pilot roll. Their origin planet is Bentusphere (Quadrant Omega)

Any further questions will be answered should you have them.
>>
>>443270
Can we use the Prototype Computers perk to be an AI captain?
>>
>>443288
If you wish for the ship to be of skandom design, and the crew to be mostly skandoms. As they are the only race to really place AI's in leadership positions. Though being an AI severely limits you and is not recommended.
>>
>>443265
i second this
>>
>>443291
Then can you give us more information about the Terrans and Praetorians?
Such as government, social ranking, and what being one of these races entails in terms of responsibilities and how people will view us.
>>
>>443291
Oh, before we close off the ship customization, does the Military Grade Weaponry perk allow us to get military grade weapons in the future as well, or do we only get the mil-spec stuff at the beginning?

If the latter, then maxing our Weapons with the Military Grade Weaponry has to be done now to get the most benefit.
>>
>>443297
Terrans and Praetorians are viewed as the most 'normal' , Terrans are hardly ever viewed negatively or in a bad light. The government of both of these races is a senate, they are equal in gender, the most respected members of their societies are captains and those in scientific positions.
>>
>>443304
Mil-Spec at the beginning. It is rather expensive in the fringe but you can purchase it when you have completed enough contracts.
>>
>>443309
>Mil-Spec at the beginning
Then it doesn't really make much sense to get Military Grade Weaponry in the beginning with Weapons at 2.

How about Decreasing Speed to 4 and Increasing Weapons to 4?

Oh, yeah, that's different.

Though we're going to be out on the fringe, exploring unknown and strange space anomalies with unknown diseases, right?

As we complete contracts, will we be able to buy the upgrades we weren't able to select here?

Currently Bio-technology had rendered all species immune to natural diseases only artistically created diseases used as bio-weapons are really efficient in affecting anyone.

Yes you will be able to purchase the upgrades in the future.

You are a Male Praetorian, one hundred and forty three years of age known as Markus Poll. You limit your navigation officers while maintaining the average of three Comofficers.

Having spent months on a AA-Class Station, hiring a formidable crew and having a custom ship built you are ready to head into the fringe within the week. You currently sit within the captains seat of the bridge, looking at your PDA's screen and double checking everything you give a soft hum. You wonder if you should waste some time and play space blocks but place the thought away. Everyone has been hired and now all that is needed is patience. Then you realise that not EVERYONE has been hired, infact you've completely forgotten about the AI.

You quickly open up your Space-Mail and find the correct one, opening it to read the reply you lean back into the comfort of the chair.

"Thank you for the interest in hiring one of the AI's aboard -AAA "Drakonis Infectorem" <Independant> Controlled by female Praetorian AI Reign-. The current AI's looking for work within the Fringe are as listed, please reply with your choice once it has been made."

"Ivan would be a suitable AI for my wishes. When can I expect the core delivered?"

...

"Thank you for your selection, delivery of Ivans core will be approximately one day. We are aware that you are in the D-Class shuttle bay D-24 please inform us if you move your ship to another bay."

...

With a sigh you slump down into the seat once more thinking of what to do other than quadruple checking everything. You suppose you could go into Drakonis's markets and see some sights rather than sit and scroll through endless advertisments. You've already had your captains quarters set up correctly. You stand up and step down from the captains raised platform, allowing the automatic door to open and close as you pass through to stroll around the ship. You're quite lucky to have gotten such skilled workers to create this ship, it's natural to be prepared when facing the unknown right?

You give a faint chuckle reaching the cargobay to pull out your datapad once more. You revisit the offered contract to transport the unknown cargo to Station Prophet, probably owned by some terran or terran corperation you muse. These hairless apes and their gods, most of them if not all are dead by now. The old royal family of Rex, killed quite a few... You suppose that it must be hard being a 'divine' being around this time considering that every pistol can kill them in one shot, they do after all rip reality. It's hard to survive your very existence being torn...

Well the cargo could be a rist but prophet is the first station you'll be docking at once you get through the fringe, 20k creds is also a rather generous price considering the simplicity of it. Though the text does say 'protect the cargo until delivery' so there might be something there...

You step outside of the ship and hail a taxi to take you into the ships main market. Considering the AAA-Class Ship is made for ten million denizens its not long before one of the many taxi arrives at your location. Climbing into the hovering vehicle you sit in the back taking up your datapad and loading up one of the many games you've collected from the various stations intranets. Something in the wrong speaks up in a grumbling tone. You look up in sheer shock of the fact that there's actually a driver, it takes a few moments for your brain to catch up with this fact, unable to stop you blurt out.

"Why the hell are you here?!"

The driver looks back, a female skandom with a bemused look. "I'm a driver, I drive people around."

You pause before continuing, "Y..Yes... But... Don't you have an automated system for that? I've never... Why?"

"Well the AI decided she didn't want to deal with people anymore, so I get to drive people around. You know? The AI that's kicking everyone out?"

"Why? When? What?" The confusion in your voice is rather evident.

"About a week ago she said 'everyone out, you're annoying and I have a world to save, out, all of you. You have a week, you're all fired at that time, out.' Or something along those lines. You've not heard?"

"No! There wasn't any alert when I docked on the damn station!"

"Oh, well. I wouldn't hang around longer than needed then." She turns back around, focusing on the controls.

You hold one hand against you head as you process the implications and sheer work needed to transfer ten million people into new jobs and a new station, not the mention the fact of WHY Reign is doing this. Your thoughts are shaken when you slam into the side of the cab as it half flips, a high pitched squeal coming from the front as the sound of metal hitting metal at a high speed screeches. The cab stabilises as you look out of the window for the source of the sound, two cars completely wrecked, though the hard plankium shell that protects people from such crashes.

A bored voice comes from the front. "Yeah... Without automation things like that happen, human error and all that. Sometimes people die, nothing I can do about it."

You sit back down, wishing you never ordered a damn cab.

Holy shit, if everyone is getting thrown off of the entire goddamn station, either today or tomorrow, this is a chance to make bank moving people/stuff off the station.
>>
>>444027
You are aware that it will be taking much longer than that for everyone to trickle out of the station considering the number of people. Simply they'll be fired tomorrow, your ship is unable to fly without an AI, not to mention you need your crew and you are planning to go into the fringe. It might not be possible to do anything when it comes to help moving things.

Aside from that leave any questions you guys have I'll be going off for the night and continue tomorrow.

Since the AI is in charge of the station, it would be the other way around. And from the sound of things, the AI is far too concerned with saving a planet to care about the meatbags that are mucking things up.

You look up with a question. "So, what were you before a cab driver then?"

"Ah, I mostly did administration work, you know government paper pusher. Almost everyone driving a cab now had a job in the government."

"That makes sense" You agree before turning your attention to the PDA, looking up the route into the fringe you're greeted with not much information, you know that you'll be flung through the flux and then be in open space. After which it will take only two jumps until you reach prophet. Rather simple and quick, definitely less than a day.

Skipping over that you start searching for any possible methods of making money considering everyone is leaving the station there should be SOME opportunities. After a short while you realize something, in the fringe supplies are short considering the absence of major populated areas. You delve deeper into the various methods and cargo you could potentially take to sell.

Drugs could be a potential cargo, however they are illegal and you'd need to find some kind of black market connection, since the AI doesn't seem to be monitoring people or really caring about what they do it would be easier than on any other station.

Faze or Particle Accelerator Cannons would be a good choice, considering all the threats, pirates and strange aggressive shit that been said to inhibit the fringe, demand for these would be high.

Shield Generators are also needed out in the dangerous void. The safest option but the one that would make the least money.

You think for a moment, wondering if you should actually pick some of this stuff up. The cargo is decently big.

-------
>Drugs (Attempt to find black market dealer once you reach the market
>Cannons (Head to a weapons/ship dealer once you reach the market)
>Shield Generators (Head to the ship dealer once you reach the market)
>Other (Write in suggestion)
>>
>>448094

I want drugs. AI doesn't pay attention, and there will always be a market for drugs.
>>
You decide that bringing some heavy drugs into the fringe would be the best idea. Considering the price of the stuff. Though where you would sell it is a worrying thought, probably to pirates somehow.

You look up as you finally reach the market, the cab settling down on the metal floor with a soft clunk. You give a nod to the driver before stepping out of the vehicle into the bustling streets, or rather not so bustling. A sour mood is rather evident as people shuffle around, chatting hushed and any sign of fun none-existent.

Considering the fact that they're all getting kicked out of their homes by Reign its rather natural. Still you have a job to do. You start heading through the markets looking around for anything of interest, weapon stores, food stores, all the stores. The ship has everything and anything you'd wish to buy really but your purchase is more of the backstreet kind.

It makes around half an hour to get into a shady part of the ship, neon signs hanging over the green grannex bar, a good start to try. You head in past a watchful bouncer not being stopped at all. You guess the uniform does you good credit.

As you step in realization dawns on you, this is one of the drug dens that relys on pure subtlety. Not that you've ever been to one but normally one would order a drink, any drink and that drink would come with a drug slipped into it. Ordering one without knowing which drug is in which drink normally ends badly. Still you're not here for little picks, you'll be wanting crates of the good shit.

You walk up to the bar, keeping your eyes away from any patrons for safety. You lean onto the polished metal and wait until the scruffy looking skandom comes over, male from what you can see. It's rather strange considering he doesn't have an immaculate clean appearance.

"What'cha want to drink?"

You pause before thinking of what approach to take.

I don't see how carrying supplies to the fringe capitalizes on the situation on station. The fringe surely always wants supplies but it ain't often you are on a station for a evacuation. Shouldn't it be a sellers market for passengers even if you have your destination fixed already?
>>
>>448129
Supplies are cheaper right now. People want their shit to get sold because most wont be able to transport it all.

Most people don't want to go to the fringe because of the difficulty of getting back out of it.

You lean forward giving a wry grin to the man. "Listen, my cargo hold is empty and there's a lot of recreational buyers where i'm heading."

You let that hang in the air before the man behind the counter responds. "Tha' so? Righ' head over there and go upstairs tell'em Velo sent you." He gestures over to a door in the far corner, two Terrans playing cards on the table next to it.

"Thanks." You simply say before walking over and opening the door. Closing it behind you, you head up the stairs to the second floor of the drug den. It doesn't take you long before you see a guy sitting down on a stool next to the far door. You assume that's the way to go so you head over as the man eyes you and stands up.

"What're you here for Praetorian?"

"Velo sent me up, looking for a larger purchase and to discuss terms."

He grunts. "Fine, wait here."

You watch him open the door and step inside, another male Terran stepping out to keep watch on you. It doesn't take two long before they both switch once more and you're ushered inside. A large table with a semi-fat Terran behind it looking rather pleased that you're here, he gestures for you to sit and you do so with a polite smile, showing off your fangs.

The man picks up a datapad and seems to glance towards it before speaking to you, you doubt he has any information on you however so you think it's simply a social game to place a little more control to his side.

"So, you're wanting to buy? Lets get this over with, call me Jones. You are?"

"Markus Poll, Captain of a D-Class vessel, the same I'll be wanting to place your products onto."

His eyebrows raise as he grins. "That's rather fortunate, I suppose you've got both the cargo space and... mhh, the funds to make such a purchase then."

----

You lean back into the chair nodding. "I have the funds and the cargo hold to purchase a large amount so long as the stock you sell is of an acceptable price and quality. Along with the required forces to keep the product safe from any pirates that may wish to take said cargo without paying." You grin once more before continuing. "I do wonder, what do you have to offer in large quantities?"

He gives a nod, crossing his fingers while placing his hands onto the desk. "We have Mary Gafler, Black Opium and Liegraf Beans. Also some Liegraf plants if you wanted to produce them yourself, I'll be selling these cheap."

You pause thinking, Mary Gafler has a LSD like effect the danger of the drug is the unbalance between euphoria and sheer panic as the visions differ. Black Opium consists of liquid drops placed onto the eye to give an effect similar to heroine, overdose can leave the user blind, a large overdose, dead. Liegraf beans are borderline illegal, mass producing it and selling at large volumes is against the law yet single plant usage is not illegal.

"The beans and the plants, how much for a crate compared to a plant?"

"The plants right now will come in sets of twenty four with their own-setup, overall these setups will cost you 7000 credits. Just the beans? A 1000 per pound. A single setup will produce around that much per month."

"Mh... A gallon or a pint of Black Opium and a gallon of Mary Gafler?"

"A gallon of Black Opium?!" He sits up a little at that. "Around 1,000,000 credits, a pint 125,000. Mary goes for 100k per gallon."

You think for a moment, you currently have around 220,000 credits in your account, buying black opium might not be such a good idea. You'll need to pick the drug you want. It's possible to buy quite a few Liegraf setups. Yet Mary Gafler is also used as a medical stabiliser and is extremely hard to synthesize without a medical ship and rare advanced equipment. It might be possible to fuck with the fringes market value.

Do we have a safe to put it and prevent our crew from panicing during flight?
>>448248
>justify
That's like the oldest excuse in the book... just speed up through the flux if anyone official comes close.

"I'll be wanting three Liegraf setups for 10 thousands credits and two gallons of Mary for a hundred thousand. We both know you're needing to sell the majority of your stock before you're forced out by the AI. Not to mention your setups will be nigh impossible to move." You give him a cold stare as your proclamation finishes.

He grunts. "True but what you've offered an incredibly low price there, 3.3k for a setup? That's hardly fair! I'll be willing to offer you five thousand per setup, four thousand if you take more than fifteen off my hands. As for the Mary it's possible for us to get it off this ship."

"Indeed it would be, however there is a risk. I'm offering to purchase your product and reduce the risk to nothing, for that amount of Mary in any case. Is it not a good time to unload your goods?"

"Two gallons for a hundred thousand... Fine, but I won't budge on the Liegraf, there are others willing to buy such setups. The amount I'm offering is more than fair."

You hum slightly as you think, looking at the man as he stares you down, waiting for a response.

Buying the Liegraf would require the crew to grow, maintain and be aware of it on the ship. You could tell them only after you reached the fringe however and the contracts you had them sign would require confidentiality unless they wished for all pay to be terminated and then be dismissed from the ship.

You think once more before responding.

You can easily place the liquid drugs into your quarters, the setups will need to be placed into the cargo bay. Think of them as shipping containers rigged to grow weed. Only... Liegraf.
>>

>>Purchase over fifteen setups for a reduced price
I would think that our money is pretty worthless when we're through the flux. We'll have to trade in things other people want and drugs is something everyone wants after a long time traveling.
>>448342
Hopefully, we don't have too many goody-two-shoes on board. Maybe we can intimidate them by being captain/pack leader?
>>
>>448342
Isn't Liegraf semi-legal, sort of like marijuana? Like, it's legal to have a plant for personal use, and you need a license for any kind of farm?
>>
>>448342
Do we have some botanists? :)
>>
>>448337
>Purchase under fifteen
3 plants as before.
>>
What exactly is the use of Liegraf beans? Like is it a stimulant or depressant?
>>
>>448347
And there's no authority beyond the flux, so we're in the clear?
>>448356
>stimulant
Hopefully... so we can trade it to other ships - and make our crew work harder.
>>
So one set up of Liegraf produces roughly a pound of beans per month. How much is a typical dose?
>>
>>448347
Farming it or producing in large quantity. Illegal to mass produce and sell, is legal to own it.

>>448349
Roll 1d100

>>448356
Like weed

>>448359
There's patrol craft and stations under the protectorate but no real major threat

>>448381
1-3 beans normally mixed into a drink such as coffee or hot chocolate
>>
Rolled 57 (1d100)

>>448457
Might as well see if we have any botanists on the crew.
>>
>>448472
You have a single botanist within the science crew who can instruct others on how to take care of them. If he agrees to it.
>>
>>448457
>There's patrol craft and stations under the protectorate but no real major threat
What's the legality of Liegraf under other governments?
And are there Independent stations and colonies in the fringe?
>>
>>448457
How many beans in a pound? I'm not sure we need 15 sets unless we plan on being a space weed grower.
>>
>>448475
>If he agrees to it.
So we've been asking about the legality, but what about the social perception of drugs, and Liegraf in particular?
Is it a personal choice matter, where people just shrug their shoulders, or is it looked down upon as the drug of the lazy and indolent?

Not just how it's seen by Praetorians but also the other races as well.
