Let's have a game of chess - but with a difference. We're going to randomly place two sets of portals onto the board, through which pieces can pass through.
Roll me 1d32 for the location of the first blue portal.
Rolled 12 (1d32)

>>423533
The first portal is on the board! Now roll me 1d31 for the next portal.

How do portals work?
Rolled 30 (1d31)
>>423554
>>423565
Portals provide an instant link between other portals of the same colour. A piece can go through a portal without stopping its movement. We're going to have two blue portals and two red portals.
Second portal on. Roll me 1d30 for the first red portal.

One more portal to lay, then we'll do an opposed 1d100 for who gets to play white - me or everyone else.
Roll me 1d29 for the last portal.
>>423581
Shouldn't the second portal be one further to the right? Since the enumeration skips the first portal.
>>423592
Ah, you're right. Thanks a lot, anon. Roll me your two rolls whilst I correct the boardstate.
Rolled 25 (1d29)
>>423588
Here we are. Now roll me 1d100. If you get white, tell me your first move.
Rolled 77 (1d100)

let's start out easy. e4.
When I say that a piece can go through a portal without stopping its movement, I mean that a rook, for instance, can keep whizzing along, not that a knight or a pawn gets its move again.

What happens when a piece ends its move on a portal? Are portals two-way?
>>423621
Yes, but portals only connect to the other portal of their own colour. A knight will only go through a portal if it stops its move on it. Same for a pawn or a king. For a pawn to capture a piece on the exit portal and thus move onto that square, it must move onto the entry portal diagonally. En passant capture by appearing through a portal on the second rank is legal, but the pawn must enter the entry portal diagonally. Bishops, rooks and queen are all allowed to continue their movement through the portal, but they have to keep going in the same direction.
Oh, and moving the king through a line of check made through a portal in order to castle is illegal.

I resign.

Well, thanks for the match, it was pretty fun. Those portals effectively moved the area of control to the right. Very interesting to play.
