You are Seigrud the fourth of Norway, the leader of the seventh regiment of his holy crusade. In the year of our lord 1112, You have conquered Dafaa after four months of brutal siege warfare.

That was five years ago.

Today, Came those who attempt to claim their city. A churning war of attrition was consuming the souls of those inside these sturdy walls. The enemy has been at your door steps for a hefty five months.

Of all the plagues of war, hunger and disorderly were your worst enemies. this city house hundreds of men and women, each yearning for a fraction of what they used to it. It wasn't a surprise that some of the original inhabitors were yearning for their 'liberators' but none dared to oppose your holy knights.

You sat by yourself in your Grand mansion in the heart of the city. You spent what scraps of luxurious food offered to you to your skin-and-bones servants.

Some wouldn't eat though; Ramadan was on its first days. Perhaps their 'holy' month was a blessing in disguise; the commander of the opposing force has halted any advancements for today.

Fuck these guys. We won't give it to them. If they want it, let them storm the walls as men.

after all the blood you offered to take Dafaa, you were not the one to handle its keys to the enemy. No. you were aware that you were fighting a losing battle; your forces has suffered a sapping loss at a skirmish weeks before the siege. If you were to die, you would do so clutching to your sword and shield.

Day 154

Each day is consisted five parts:

-2 checks [check on storage, the wounded...etc]

-1 Leader action [Order the excution of ___, give a moral speech...etc]

-2 knight action [ send x knights to protect the front gate, slip a messenger to x...etc]

Note the some actions might go side ways. there are no knight action for this day.

some actions will be preceded a small insight to either reconfirm it or deny it.
so...

there is no knight actions for this day only since you are in a pseudo treaty with the enemy.

the option of surrendering is always available.

>Check: 1 -See how many knights and footmen we have along with how many horses. 2 -Check on our food storage.
>Leader: Make a speech in the middle of one of the more populated city squares that to fight and die for this city is to fight and die for the Lord above. Anyone and everyone who is able and willingly joins our army will be absolved of all sins!

Guillemant was an old friend, he stood next to you in the battlefield until a crippling injury forced him to let down his sword. Nevertheless, he held another important position. One that required a lot of trust.

You summoned your old friend who was trapped in an ever-changing chaos of numbers. You asked him about your men. They were not living the finest of their days as of now.

"Lord Seigrud," there was no need for a bow but Guillemant respected your position as the protector of this city " The numbers are viable to change but we have 560 able footmen , 380 holy knight of your original proud company. Our 104 marksmen have little arrows to fire, my lord. Finally 411 men of this city who claim they want to fight side by side with your knights, my lord. they are ,however, peasants, common rabble....few has an armour of their own then again, we are in desperate times...."

Your original company exceeded said number by six folds back when you set your foot in these lands. You inquired again about the horses.

Your friend was perturbed to say the least "My lord, Some of our steeds has been....stolen, butchered for counter the looming hunger. The responsible are locked waiting for your judgment. Others died of famine.... 57 ...those are our lasts."

You stepped out of your mansion, the stench of death which you knew very well seeped through the air; despite some glaring objections from some of the inhabitants, almost all of the corpses were to burnt to avoid the spread of more diseases into the population.

You had to leave some of your men to guard the parameters but the rest followed you to now-turned highly fortified town square.

You could see it in their eyes, they were tired, broken from little sleep and endless fighting. the faces you fought with dwindled with each day.

This broke state of moral gave you enough fuel to start an inspiring speech reminding your men what and who they were fighting for.

Your speech did rose the morale for some but other were lost cause; they were fighting for you out of respect and loyalty. It was saddening the witness the sturdiest of your men turn to simple husks for inside. You prayed for a better fate for them all.

You know these lands, Dafaa was strategically founded under a mountain called Al Aswad, this mountain provided dear protection from behind and from the sides to some extent.

Another close mountain lied in the horizon, Al Asfar, The commander of your foes was not a fool, he would not set the camp of his main force in the plains surrounding both mountains. Instead, He moved 3 siege engines and a small army ranging from 500-700 able fighter after his first failed attempt to assault the city.

You had sent infiltrators before to sabotage the siege engines but they were slaughtered; there are few places to hide even under the cover of the night. Still, the few you still have await your command.
Day 155
The day started with the strangest of things, the marksmen report a shady supply carriage approaching the siege engine, The siege engines soon fired after resupplying.

however, it wasn't simple rocks.

No, it was sacks filled with rice and bread. Some even held actual fresh meat. It was natural to see the starved inhabitants of Dafaa snatching whatever they found. Chaos ensued especially with the words 'for the fasting muslims' written on the sacks.

Your Marksmen and other footmen stationed at the outerwall complained about the plastered corpses on the other side. Even the crows had their shared of this rotten corpses of both you and foe's men. A handful of your men turned sick due to these littered corpses

Any friends or allies in the holy land?
>>
>>347311
Not sure what actions these'd count as, but we should
>Have soldiers gather the grain and rice, and we should see to its distribution
And
>have soldiers tentatively begin dealing with the corpses outside

Might want to shelve this for tomorrow OP. The thread wont go anywhere

Your men attempted to gather all the food but the primal instinct of starved men ruled supreme over their hearts and minds.

A clash to restore order was ensued. The clash ended with the loss of 9 footmen and 20 civilians. Some accused you of hording all the food for yourself and your men while others swallowed their resentment to you.

Dafaa was cut off from the rest of the crusade by your foe's forces. You had a suspicion that your closest neighbors (Le Blanche ruling Al Kyras) was ransacked by the same force attacking you; his city was way smaller and less defended.

There are however some Mercenaries roaming these lands, they fight for gold. they had no allegiance to anyone. Then again, The way was cut off by your foes. A single messenger might slip by luring said mercenaries with the promise of gold but it was a slim chance.

Dangerous it was to open the front gate to deal with a handful of corpses. A lone Marksman suggested throwing some oil from the wall and lighting it up. In the end, Fire would eat them to the bones.

And so it happened, the stench of brunt flesh was a better alternative than that of death and decay.

Its clear the inhabitants are going to be more trouble than they are worth. Cleanse the city of all Saracens so the food can only be eaten by people who are worth keeping alive.

You sat down considering your next order. Dafaa was mostly inhabited by Muslims, more than a good three quarters to be certain who lived here for generations. While other crusaders might justify killing women and children when dealing with Saracens, you were not among them. You believed in raising your sword against those who would raise theirs against you or the lord's men.

This supposed genocide would have a bad outcome either ways; the inhabitants outnumber your forces 4-6 to 1. It would ensure nothing but chaos. You had servants and others who are Muslims are well. they will not stand idly as you butcher their kin.

Then again, you are churned in a war of attrition. Many hands are skulking in the shadows waiting to stab you in the back.

>Order your men to kill every Muslim in Dafaa

Do it, think of some crafty plan to minimize casualties, maybe trap them somewhere?
>>
>>347463
Your ordered most of your men to gather around your mansion in the middle of the night, you demonstrated your plan for tomorrow by rounding up every Muslim servant in the mansion and murdering each one of them. The young and the old.

Your subordinates were shocked for ending those who served you for months with unending loyalty. You confessed your plans to them.

Some were shocked, other were silent . but the most of them disagreed. Olaf, one of your most brilliant subordinates called you a madman and a tyrant for exterminating the very own people you protect.

He raised your sword against you.

Others, shocked by your volatile decision chose to betray you as well. A clash of swords rang through your mansion. You barely survived a death blow from your once-old-friend.

This clash has claimed the lives of 24 Holy knight.

The chaos has just started.

Day 156

After preparing themselves, most of your knights and footmen bashed into doors of harmless civilians at the break of dawn killing whoever who dwells in there.

Your plans worked perfectly for the first hour or so but the muffled and gurgled screams of the dead soon grew louder and louder.

Those who escaped the first purge warned those in the releam of dream of your undoing.

Soon, the people of Dafaa rose against their so called protector. While most of them were lightly armed with knives and the like, their shear numbers would crush your steadfast knights. A single knight could only swing for so long. The non Muslim inhabitant chose to side with their brethren as well against this conqueror.

The Milita who wanted to aid your in plight turned against you for this vile act. Your forces suffered considerable casualties against the horde, the numbers were unknown to you. You have underestimated the wrath of these simplefolks.

It didn't help that a small group of loyalist to your foe were dormant this whole time, they emerged in the midst of the fight arming whoever was against your with wellcrafted swords.

As the streets were turning red. The front walls and gate were bombarded by chunks of stone. While another army of 500-800 soldier were marching towards Dafaa. The wall would crumble at any moment.

Well, we are fucked. Try to kill as my Saracens and traitors as possible before we go down.
>>
>>347511
Welp, gather your most loyal men and supplies and gold , burn the whole city down and escape in the chaos
>>
>>347519

Every story has an end.

Your forces fought against swarms and swarms of foes, Piles of bodies littered the streets as your forces were retreating to the heart of Dafaa.

You had to descend to the churning streets to boost the morale of your crushed men but in the end it mattered little. More than a good half Dafaa's population were dead by the time the walls had finally crumbled.

You did not see their banners no, you saw a wild horde of men of women downing your last faithful knight. Your death was not a peaceful one.

The battle of Dafaa was black stain in his holy crusade. it showed the supposed face of the crusade, a ravaging beast yearning for blood. The very memory of this battle would harden the will of defenders of other cities in the region. Even if a certain city was conquered, its folks would harass and plot against the invaders until they are gone.

The presence of the lord's men would soon wither and decay. The hopes of claiming the holy land. Gone.

That's it i guess. this could have been averted
