You remain quiet.

Watching him silently for what you judge to be a good while, you finally conclude that he has no ulterior motives - or those that would bring you harm. Yes, he was with bad people - your captors. He was one of them. But he did help you. The fire was likely his doing. Although, that does not do much in improving you judgement of the man. Lets set the warehouse on fire. The warehouse
that has a tied-up girl in it. Yes!

Very nice.

But he had risked the wrath of the other two - and apparently experienced it. You find it hard to blame a person when they are in midst of coughing blood and wearing a nose that points that way as a result of trying to save your life. And he did succeed.

That, and he is likely to know what you dont. Like where you are. Your family. What happened. And how this come to be. You also need to ask about your loss of memory.

If you recall, you read from a book that this is formally called amnesia. Books. You recognize a silent and safe sort of comfort. You must have liked books. You feel you spent a great deal of time with them, amassing knowledge with each ingestion of a word, utterance of a vowel. Your sacred sanctuary of page and ink. But of all that knowledge, nothing would confer a solution to your...problem - this world beyond nightmares. But you will not probe a dying man for information. That, you refuse.

The car has slowed and you look out the window.

The place you had the pleasure of waking up to happened to only be cluster of ruination. Beyond that, would be a more barren view, an expanse of land with scarce plant life cloaked with the white of winter. There were more clusters, of course, but the land upheld - like its prior - a policy of dispopulation. You had not seen a single other person since your departure. Perhaps they prefered solitude?

And then there was the rotful stench that filled the air. It would occasionally file into the automobile through the open windows. But now, the view that beholded you was more...cumulative. Destruction so much - no. Amongst all of what you recognize as houses, a sure indicator of life, there was an ominous silence.

Again.

That silence.

A forboding whisper of what had happened. And what may come. Like rows and rows of enormous tombstones.

Dead gods.

Trees frequent the area - their skeletons haunting. And the stench from earlier has grown exponentially...

Dangerous territory

But you had no choice. They would have followed you if you had just relocated to a remote location, the nearest home per say. You had to come to...here. A bold gamble. But also your only hope.

The houses would have supplies. Supplies you would need to treat your injuries. The outskirts would be the safest, at least. Like here. You stop the car.

The houses look, for the most part, similar. One on the furthest right has its curtains closed. The one just opposite doesnt look particularly distinctive. The closest left was obviously disturbed. The door is open and the top floor window is broken, a telling red stain on the white lawn. The closest house right to you is relatively normal, having only two of its windows almost completely to a close - if that provides any information at all.

Your wounds pound to the beat of your heart. And you notice you've lost much heat since your escape with the girl - your teethare chattering and your body quivers.

You need to act now.
