The Holy Festival of Mettra-Rocca. A time for rejoicing, partying and most definitely drinking. Good thing there are guards to maintain the order... And that's where you come in!
After all, today's the day you get into the Guard! Or at least try to... You've waited two years and with the Holy Festival of Mettra-Rocca coming up, you have all your chances! Every ten years they end up recruiting tons of people because they can't handle the amount of drunks coming to the city to get wasted for the week. And that's where YOU come in! You're gonna dazzle them and they'll be so impressed they will have no choice but to enlist you!
Anyway, enough day-dreaming. You still have two hours left before the exams start so why not make the most out of it? Luckily, the examination is held during the afternoon so there should be no shortage of things to do.
Speaking of things to do, now might be a good time to hit the stores. If you want to make a good impression you'll have to get some better gear. A shame they only provide weapons... It doesn't matter, you should have more than enough gold to overhaul your equipment.
Looking to the side across the street, a sign catches your eye. It reads "Hector's Supplies and Armors", exactly what you need! You make your way to the shop while avoiding the passerbys looking at the wares. Opening the door you greet the shriveled old man at the counter; probably Hector himself, and start to browse the counters. You're looking at an engraved shield when you hear a quiet cough to your side.
The old man is looking at you silently and he seems to be waiting for you to ask something...
-Oh, hello sir. I was wondering... do you have anything that could fit me?
-Hmm, it depends. What kind of protection are you looking for?

He nods and goes to the back of the shop.After a brief period of silence, you hear a huge noise as if something crashed down. You don't waste any time and make your way to the back.
You open the door and start to advance before bumping into something. It's the shopkeeper! You can see he got himself stuck under a big chest! It must have fallen from a shelf... Fortunately he seems to be fine but that chest is too heavy for him.
There has to be a way for you to help him...Luckily, you're not any random teenager. You can save him!
You urge him to calm down, trashing around will only make things worse from what you can see. Looking at the scene, a few ideas come to mind but they aren't feasible at the moment.
You aren't a colossus and it doesn't look like this chest is going to move by itself, might as well use your roguish guile and be done with this. You inspect the chest carefully when your eyes land upon what your looking for. The hinge seems to be rusty but if you can force it open, you'll be able to take whatever's inside to lighten the load. Again, you ponder your options...

Okay, time to break out the artillery! You reach into one of your numerous pouches and take out what looks like a wallet. When opened, one can clearly see the numerous instruments. Some might question what a guard is doing with that kind of stuff but it might help if you don't want to break every locked door. You aren't a brute after all.
You fiddle with the lock for what must seem an eternity to the poor shopkeeper. Finally, you hear the lock open with a distinct “clic”. The top of chest drops to the side and you can see it is filled with what looks like armors. The old man must have tried to get it down and slipped.
A few moments later after you're done emptying the chest, you manage to push it off. The shopkeeper stands up, he didn't get injured. He looks at the chest and it's scattered contents, then back at you:
-Well as you can see, here are my armors. Now, since you helped me I'm gonna give you a discount, it's only fair.
Again his eyes go back to the armors and he picks up a slick leather vest.
-Tell you what, why don't you go see if you can find something else interesting. Meanwhile, I'll try and find the rest of this armor.

As you make your way to the front, something shiny catches your eye. You fish it out of the pile of baubles it seem to be resting in. That's definitely a potion of Lightfoot, both useful for sneaking around and landing from high-up. While there is a chance you won't ever need it in the guard you can never be too careful, right?
While waiting for Hector(?) to come, you find several similar items among which a Fire-Breath Potion (extra spicy!), a healing salve (guarantee not to cause any infections), an extract of numbing poison to rub on your blade (only your blade!), a vial of lockpicking grease and finally a Wonderous Cordial of Awesomeness. You have no idea what the last one is supposed to be, maybe you can ask the old man when he comes back. Speaking of which, here he is carrying your new armor!
From just a glance, you can see that this armor is well crafted. The stitches are almost invisible and you can hear a faint jingling when the armor moves, proof that the interior is lined with chainmail. While such a piece is worth a lot, you've saved pretty much all your life in anticipation for this moment, and you also got a discount!

He hands you the potions while you take out your money out of your rucksack. As you stow the potions in your sack, you reach out with the money only to be stopped:
-Please, it's on the house. You'll still have to pay for the armor of course, but it's the least I can do for a young lad like you. To be honest, you remind me of my grandson, I assume you're here to get in the guard too?
-Oh, yes. I figured that with the festival and all I have better of a chance to get accepted. And with the stuff I've gotten from you, there's no doubt I'll get in!
He chuckles softly, before taking the armor off the counter and giving it to you.
-Before you go, mind telling me your name?
-Of course Sir, I'm called...

You nod and open the front door, stepping into the mass of people going about their daily lives. There ought to be at least one hour left before the exam, so why not do something in the meantime. Now that you have your new armor, there's nothing terribly urgent, you'll just put it on there.
Thinking about it, you haven't really had lunch so now might be as good a time as any. Of course, there are plenty of places where you could eat, so you can choose whatever you want.
