Nothing. You slowly get worried. You feel her inside you but you can't hear her.

"Xeri, answer me! Are you alright?!"

Suddenly the symbols start to fade and in their place a red membrane start to form. You punch it and start pulling yourself in. You slowly emerge on the other side.

Carnifex
"Thank the gods, we were worried you wouldn't make it."

You pull yourself out of the pool of blood and lay down on the side. Sharp pain starts to radiate from your shoulder.

Xeri
"Jack! I've been worried sick! ... WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ARM?!"

Jack Chitin
"I don't feel so good... I think I'm gonna..."

Carnifex
"You're bleeding fast, please sit down over there. I need to check your wound and stop the bleeding before you fall into shock.", he said while hastily preparing some scrolls

You sit down in the nearby chair. Blood slowly trickling dripping to the floor, you grab your arm and try to reduce the bleeding.

Xeri
"Jack, what happened?! Please stay with me, don't close your eyes! Don't you dare!", she said with a lump in her throat

You focus all your energy to try and stay awake.

Carnifex throws some scrolls in the air. The candles go out, and the outlandish voices start to speak again. A few sharp bones start drawing symbols in the levitating scrolls. Suddenly, tendrils made of blood emerge from the nearby fresh corpses and slither towards Jack. They pierce the skin and pull out a few arteries. The tendrils start to transfuse blood to Jack.

You feel the fatigue slowly drifting away and you heart rate speeds up to it's normal pace again.

Jack Chitin
"Don´t worry, I'm unarmed. I could use a hand with the bleeding though.", you say towards Xeri with a chuckle

Your healthy arm twitches. It suddenly slaps your face.

Xeri
"You idiot! Don't you ever scare me like that again!", she said in a distressed and scared voice

You forgot that she hates jokes in dire situations.

Jack Chitin
"Anyway, did that little fleabag return while I was gone?"

Carnifex
"Not yet. I assume the situation escalated at some point.", he said while pointing at your missing arm

Jack Chitin
"I had to save him from the Shadow Jester. She's one crazy vixen, that's for sure."

Xeri
"That bitch did this to you?! I WILL FUCKING KILL HER!", she said through her clenched teeth

Jack lets out a worried sigh.

Jack Chitin
"Xeri calm down. The situation was pretty complicated. She wanted for Gat to be her champion, just like you wanted me. Don't rile yourself up, remember that we need to form an alliance with them. So please, don't worry about it."

Carnifex
"So did you manage to help him?"

Jack Chitin
"I gave him the advice, now it's up to him to finish the job. He's a smart son of a bitch, I have no doubt that he'll return. The only question is when."

Jack pauses for a moment to catch his breath, still exhausted from the recent events.

Jack Chitin
"I missed you.", he said in a warm tone

Xeri
"I can imagine, you had it for your whole life. How are we going to repair this?"

Jack chuckles.

Jack Chitin
"I'm talking about you."

Jack expected a swift reply, but he received a few moments of silence.

Jack Chitin
"Xeri, are you there? I couldn't hear you while I was in the Deity Realm."

Xeri
"Huh?~ Oh.. y-yeah, I... ahem, I couldn't hear you as well. When you jumped into the portal, my presence stayed back in the hut. It seems that once you enter another gods or goddesses realm we lose communication."

Xeri
"So, you... you really missed me?~", she said in a coy tone

"Mhm. I missed the nagging tantrums the most.", Jack sticks out his tongue and smiles, teasing her

"Carnifex, I want to talk to you about Blood Magic later. For now what's the damage report?"

Carnifex
"You'll live. However, I need to think of a way to get you a new arm."

Jack Chitin
"It's possible?!", he lets out a sigh of relief

Carnifex
"Like I said, Blood Magic is closely related to the deities. It's among the oldest magic paths in Elysia. Legends say the gods themselves crafted it first, and taught it to their acolytes to further empower them in battle. I will continue my research, however, you will need to supply me with fresh corpses. Virgin and innocent blood is the most potent."

Xeri lets out a giggle. Jack catches the context and lets out an anoyyed sigh. Carnifex finishes the ritual, patching up Jack.

Carnifex
"My Hive Queen, I would like a word with you regarding some magic plans."

Xeri
"In a minute blood mage. I want to talk to my champion about something first."

The crew is interrupted by a portal emerging in the hut. Familiar characters come rushing out.

Jack Chitin
"Gat! You made it! Good job, you little fleab..."

The shadow trio stumbles into Jack, falling to the floor.

Gat
"GET OUT OF THE WAY BUGBOY! I NEED TO RELEASE THE STEAM!"

The felines run out of the hut. They are frantically looking for some cover.

"Boom, get the fuck away from me, you know that your aim sucks!"

The felines find their own bush and hide in it. After some tugging and purring, Gat enters the hut.

Gat
"I hate it when I have to play solo, but at least the blues are gone."

Gat notices Jack and looks to the ground, scratching his head.

Gat
"Uhm... thanks bugbo... thanks Jack."

Jack Chitin
"I knew you could do it! I'm proud of ya, you little fleabag. Man, it's been a year since I last saw you. We have a lot of stuff to catch up on.", Jack pats him on the shoulder

Gat
"How did you survive. I mean, we berried you..."

Jack remembers the scene all too well and lets out a sigh.

Jack Chitin
"I stopped running and embraced her. I imagine you did the same?"

Gat
"Y-Yeah.", he with a blush, thinking of Umbra

Gat turns around and notices Carnifex.

Gat
"Holy fuck!", he said while jumping in the air

"Pleased to meet you. I am Carnifex, the Hive Queen's magic advisor. You must be the shadow feline.", he said with a low buzzing sound

"Uhh bugboy, what's going on?", he said in an anxious tone

"Preparing for the apocalypse.", he said with a chuckle.

Gat
"V-Very funny. Stop fucking a-around."

"I'm serious. Dire times are on the horizon."

Carnifex walks to another table on the other side of the hut.

You feel Xeri's presents shifting towards Carnifex. Gat jumps again, trying to figure out where the voice came from.

"Wait... don't tell me that was..."

Jack Chitin
"Yup. It's her.", he said with a smile on her face

Gat
"Ahem, so let's get to business. Real talk... how big are they?"

Jack tries to visualize it by showing the grip on some imaginary boobs in the air, slowly grinning at Gat.

Gat
"You lucky son of a bitch...", he said while holding his head and biting his lip in frustration, admiring the imagined size

They both laugh.

Jack Chitin
"If only things were that bright for the future. Something is coming Gat. Even we don't know the full details. It looks like the gods and goddesses are choosing champions all over Elysia, we're not the only ones."

Gat
"So what now? I'm new to all of this. I haven't talked to my bitch yet. To make matters worse, I pissed her off in the end.", he said in a worried tone

Jack chuckles.

Jack Chitin
"Don't worry, Gat. I don't know the details of how you did it, but I hope you realize that she didn't pick you for any old reason. So, are you able to talk to her now?"

Gat
"Let me try. Rarely I run into a woman that can resist my charming personality.", he said while clearing his throat

Gat
"Yo bitch, you cooled your tits?"

Jack puts his hand on his face and lets out a sigh.

Gat
"Huh, looks like the bitch is sleeping or something."

Jack Chitin
"Gat, that's no way to treat a woman, let alone a goddess..."

Gat
"Don't tell me your chick got you around her little finger? Man, you really haven't changed at all.", he chuckles

Jack Chitin
"Stop fooling around you little fleabag. I'm serious, we're their champions now. I don't know about you, but having a goddess watching your back, eases my mind in regards to the upcoming events. That's what I wanted to talk to you about. I don't know what you plan to do next, but consider talking to your goddess. Me and Xeri would like to form an alliance with you guys."

Gat stops to think for a moment.

"You saved my furry ass back there, and you're less of a shithead than most people I met in my life."

Jack Chitin
"Please stop, you flatter me.", he said in a monotone and sarcastic way, rolling his eyes

"Alright bugboy, you got yourself a dea..."

Gat notices your missing arm and freezes.

Jack looks at his face and notices that he's staring at his missing arm. Gat slowly takes a step back, visually shocked and horrified.

"It's just a scratch. You could say that she disarmed me, haha! What's the matter? Don't tell me cat got your tongue?", Jack chuckles and tries to signal him that it's not big deal

"W-Wait, did she d-do this to you?"

Jack Chitin
"Yeah, she's one feisty vixen, that's for sure, haha!", Jack said with a chuckle again, like nothing happened

Jack notices Gat's jaw slowly quivering with a sad and horrified visage.

Gat
"I'm... I'm so... sorry Jack", he said with a lump in his throat

Jack is taken aback by Gat's behaviour. He kneels in front of him so they're both on the same eye level. Jack puts his hand on Gat's shaking shoulder.

Jack Chitin
"Hey man, it's alright. I'll find a way to fix it somehow. I'm just glad that you're alright.You know... I never really had a friend. Well I got Xeri now to keep me company, but I never had a guy friend..."

Jack feels a lump in his throat as well. An awkward silence between them.

Jack Chitin
"Ah fuck it."

Jack hugs Gat with his healthy arm. Jack notices a strange voice coming from Gat.

Jack and Gat release each other and start clearing their throats.

Xeriana tries to control Jack's arm to hit Gat, but he resists. Jack lets out a sigh.

Jack Chitin
"Stop it you two! Ahem, Xeri please be more kind towards Gat. He agreed to become our ally, so please show more respect to him.", Jack said in a firm voice

"Ugh fine... So you little fleabag, have you talked to your goddess yet, or do I have to do it for you?"

Gat's forehead vein is about to explode. Jack signals him to let it go, it's not worth it.

"Look bug lady, I'm not on good terms with her myself. So if you want to talk to her, be my guest. Even though I don't know how you'll pull it off."

Jack Chitin
"Yeah Xeri, how did you think of talking to her? I mean, we could make more blood medallions so we can hear her too."

Xeri
"That's demeaning towards us gods and goddesses. Once we get on good terms with our champions, we can unlock new abilities. One of which is that we can materialize in the Mortal Realm. We aren't there yet though, so I"ll do it the old fashioned way. I'll pay her a visit myself. Remember? We gods and goddesses can talk to each other in the Deity Realm. So leave it up to me."

Jack makes an audible gulp.

"Xeri, I trust you and all, but please be gentle with the words."

Xeri
Yeah yeah yeah, whatever. Time to show her who's boss!

Also here's some fun fact symbolism/foreshadowing in the Jack/Gat hug scene.

In ancient Egypt, generals of armies had two sacred greetings. The handshake and hug. The handshake symbolized that you didn't have any ill intent when you meet the other general. The hug was the more powerful one and it was rarely used.

It meant that you had high trust in the person, since you are letting him touch your back with their hands, giving them the opportunity to back-stab you.

Sadly this practice was lost during time, and today in modern times, it's more awkward/inappropriate for two adult males to hug while touching their backs.

Umbra suddenly feels a sharp pain in her neck, like something punctured it. She looks around to see what hit her. Nothing around her, only Velvet who's working at the nearby desk.

Umbra squints her eyes and notices Velvet's old glory.

"Put those away!"

Velvet
"B-B-But lady Umbra, those are my n-natural brea..."

Umbra slowly grabs her throwing knives again.

Velvet
"Alright, alright! D-Don't shoot!", she said while taking a needle and popping her sweater puppies in a whimper

Finally a few moments of peace and tranquillity. Rarely does one enjoy that experience in Umbra's realm. Velvet breaks the silence.

Umbra is still processing the situation, not sure what happened. Xeriana helps her process faster with a few more slaps. Velvet notices the commotion and gasps. Xeriana grabs her by the collar of her shirt.

Umbra tries to summon her shadow servants, but something is wrong. It feels like something is pressing down on her shoulders, however nothing is there. A sudden rush of fatigue causes Umbra's knees to shake.

"Pathetic. You lied to me on numerous occasions during our conversation. Why would I form an alliance with a weak and pathetic whore as yourself?"

After a few moments Umbra picks herself up and dusts off. She notices Velvet out cold, lying on the floor. She considers helping her.

"Ehh, she'll be fine."

Umbra puts the kettle back on the stove and waits for the tea to reheat again. What was that feeling back in Xeri's embrace? Umbra blushes again.

"I'm straight as dried noodles, but I guess things get a bit weird once you get wet.", she said to herself.

The kettle whistles, waking up the poor advisor. Umbra reaches for another cup and pours tea for two.

With that, the Shadow Jester retreats back to her realm. Gat slowly stands up, visibly confused.

We are shielded by the high mountains in the north. The swamps to the east will prove useful as well, along with the hot springs nearby. In short, the Province of Casius is perfect for our base."

"Furthermore, our allies should be close. They should form their own headquarters near us and spread their dominion in the other direction so we don't clash. That would be either Urno to the west, or Adila to the east. Now for the hard part, after we build our bases, we should think of purging both capitols of the respective provinces."

"I wanted to tell you earlier, but I didn't get the chance. It was nothing important, Gat blue balled his goddess and I had to finger her."

Jack chokes on his spit and almost falls from the branch.

"Don't worry, it didn't mean anything, it was just diplomacy at work. Listen Jack, I perceive lust and love as two different things. Jack notices a peculiar thing. This is one of the rare times when Xeriana talks in a sincere and non joking tone. Looks like she really is serious about Jack. He's a bit moved by her words.

"I... I understand. Truth be told, I got a bit jealous..."

Xeri
"Keep practising, and then you won't need my word to convince you I'm telling the truth~"

Xeri yawns in a cute voice again.

Jack feels Xeriana's presence slowly fading away. Jack meditates for a bit then rests on the branch again.

Jack felt like he was punched into the stomach. With all the commotion in the last few days, he forgot about her.

"She kept crying... for days. There were times when she kept her composure and we talked but... we arrived at the Lunar Shrine, and then everything went dark. The next thing I know I'm at the hands of that psycho mime.", he said visibly shaken by the memories with Luna

"She might still be alive, Carnifex noted a young priestess travelling east a year ago when the explosion happened. Once we are done here, I'm thinking of heading there myself."

Sorry for the late updates today guys, I'm having a bit of brain lag with the story at the moment. I will need to take a break for a day or two to gather all these ideas and thoughts, so the quest stays smooth like Umbra's plump cheeks

After Jack and Luna got reunited again, she invites him over to talk about the good old days.

"Jack, I'm so happy to see you. Here, I made some biscuits with honey, I know how much you love them~", she said with tears of happiness building up in her eyes

Jack sits down and smiles, happy to see her again. She sits next to him and looks at Jack's face. After all those months of loneliness, she can't control her emotions any more. Luna goes for a kiss. However, Jack misinterprets her move and hugs her, not catching the signals the lovely priestess is sending.

Jack Chitin
"I'm happy to see you as well!"

Luna blushes from the embarrassment, but she wants to push a bit further.

Luna Bellus
"Hey, remember how you carried me when we were in the swamps? Lets go for a walk together~", she tries to get the message across

Jack Chitin
"I'm sorry, but I'm in a hurry, so I'll be here for only a little while."

Luna Bellus
"Oh... I see."

Jack Chitin
"Maybe some other time, I need to get back to Xeriana. She gets a bit mad when I'm late.", he said still oblivious of Luna's attempts

Luna's smile fades a bit after hearing that sentence. Even though she managed to find some happiness again, Luna remembers those cold nights where she cried herself to sleep. Even to this day. Her tears of happiness slowly transform into those of sadness, however Jack doesn't notice the switch.

Luna Bellus
"Oh, you found a n-new lady friend? You g-go Jack!"

Jack Chitin
"Yeah, she's pretty awesome. She's smart and funny, and... pretty beautiful. I like h-her a lot.", he said while blushing, trying to hide it

Luna puts up a forced smile.

For serious, though; Xeri has given our MC everything he's ever wanted for all of his life, while Luna was being indecisive and not saving our guy from his isolation and loneliness. She was hesitant and he died without ever knowing that anyone had ever loved him. That's a tragic way to die. I'd say that Luna had WAY MORE than enough time to save Jack and profess her love for him, but she took too long and now Jack's savior has come in the form of a loving and pampering bug goddess. Why reject her? She's literally everything that Jack ever wanted AND NEEDED (including a reason to feel proud that he was born as a monstrosity, which Luna could never provide).

Thanks for an elaborate reply! It's always nice to read what the players are thinking of the story so far. I'm at a lack of words, you hit the nail on the head and gave some pretty good arguments regarding Luna.

As always I'll leave the players to decide where we go, no matter how I personally feel about the outcome.

Currently, we're at a spot that's pretty mellow and everything seems to be peachy. However, things are going to get pretty rough soon, walking through a mine field of hard decisions, for everybody.

I've played through both of the Walking Dead games from Telltale; as long as we don't have another Kenny or crazy psycho bitch whose name I can't remember, I think we'll do just fine.

I think our character should not become evil, merely due to his friendship with Luna, but he shouldn't be against killing humans that stand in his way. I doubt he really has much love for them after how they've treated him for his entire life; so if there's that sort of moral dilemma, I think that most people can agree that his actions would be logical and understandable.

If there's a "Luna is now your enemy", the only thing we can do is try to get her on our side. If she ends up being adamant and ends up hindering our journey due to her faith clashing with ours, we'd have to end her life as well (mercifully).

If Gat goes against us, then we become a one man army sort of Paladin for our Lady, Xeri.

If we find out that Xeri is actually the evil one and threatens the destruction of the world, then we find out her reasoning and make our decision (whether to betray her, as she was using us, or to go about her will, as she honestly believes that she can bring about a better world than what currently exists).


Or at least those are the decisions I would attempt to have our character make.

Don't worry, all of the actions and decisions will have a smooth buildup and those with an keen eye can search for the foreshadowing and breadcrumbs that I leave behind. The shocking twists that will happen at one point or the other will make sense.

Exactly, even though Jack is pretty bright, he's pretty torn regarding his morality. He knows that vengeance can only lead to more blood, however his heart feels the opposite. This is a key point in Jack's personality.

The players are in control of the wheel, you guys need to interpret the situations at hand and try to steer the answers in your direction. Maybe they all die in the end

I want to take a short note that when it comes to player votes. For example, if 4 people vote for "X answer", don't feel discouraged to leave a "Y answer". The results aren't black and white, even that little "Y answer" will change the scene by a little bit, which can have a butterfly effect in the future.
