You are a supreme being on a young and fresh world. You are undetectable, yet you possess a specific set of powers: You can add mutations to the creatures that inhabit it.
The world itself is a simple one, a rock globe covered in a shallow see, with the deepest point being twenty meters (60ft) under water, and the shallowest half a meter (1-2 ft). Several creatures inhabit this world, yet you will only change these four, and their offspring. Will you make them thrive? Or will you make them shrivel? It is all up to you, and your friends.
Welcome to the Shallow Waters Evo game!
Rules/How to play:
>Take the art of a creature already existing, be it a basic one, or one already modified by another user. How many times it has been modified already does not matter, but make sure you are not the last person who modified it.
>Open MS Paint, or any other drawing program
>Add a small, semi-realistic mutation to the creature. That means, a thicker shell, spikes, functionless and small appendages, etc.
>Post it in the thread, with a small description of what changes you made.
>To work to something greater, like functional wings, multiple steps need to be made (eg. Minor appendage -> Big appendage -> Feathers for gliding -> Functioning wing)
>Once every while, an extinction event will take place. Any affected creature that does not adapt before it takes place, will go extinct. Extinct creatures can no longer evolve.
DO's and DON'T's
>Do participate, no matter how bad your art is. Most people are shit at MS Paint here, so never be ashamed
>Do completely change the art of a creature, if you're okay/good at art and stuff, and if you feel a creature needs it, because it's getting too full or something.
>Do work on other branches, and the creatures of others
>Do be a nice guy
>Don't complain when your OC Waifu and its entire branch goes extinct
>Don't add mutations that are too complex (eg. fully functioning eyes, incredible wings etc). Realism of the mutations themselves doesn't really matter, as long as it can be semi-scientifically explained, and again, are not too complex at once. (DO : Fire breathing because gas from the creature's gas bags are released and ignited by a small spark in the creature's throat. DONT : This creature conjures fire when breathing)
>Don't add a mutation to a creature whose last addition was also by you. This can be forgiven when no one within ~2-3 hours / 50 posts has mutated them, or they are about to go extinct.
>Don't devolve mutations made to your own creature because you dislike them or have other plans with the creature.
I will make a regularly updated evolution tree, in which all mutations/species are listed, and if they're extinct or not.
Posting separate art of the organisms for editing after this post.

The Murktaur, inspired by the hulkerrans, begin lifting once again. They begin throwing objects as well, preferring branches that they've cut down and stripped to rocks. They can hurl branches with surprising accuracy, thanks in part to their enhanced vision (having four eyes, two of which have infrared).
Also I put the neck expanding image at the bottom since it was clutterin up the joint.

Both the Cluster Flurk's and the Drone's ability to send and receive electromagnetic signals has grown more advanced. The Flurk can now roughly determine the overall emotional state of the creature to which the drone is attached. They can also send signals directly to its brain that do more than just disorient it. The Cluster Flurk can now use drones put creatures in a daze and direct them to swim towards or away from the Flurk at its discretion.
As this was a non-visual change, I have it a head fin just because.

The Illuvid II have evolved into Illuvidites. Their lifecycle consists of 4 metamorphic phases.
The first form is the seed pod stage. They're ejected from the mother tree and they begin crawling on the ground with their infantile appendages until it finds a nutrient rich patch of land to plant itself to. When there are Illuvidites present they will be carried by them to a suitable location within the garden.
The second stage is the plant stage. In this stage it focuses all of its energy accumulated biomass from the soil and from sunlight. The Illuvidites assists their growth by watering them and getting rid of pest and weed. When it has gained enough biomass it will begin to metamorphosize into the next stage.
The third stage is Illuvidite stage. Its roots morph into a body and it attains full range of motion once more and pops itself from the ground. It develops a versatile digestive system making it omnivorous. They will then join a cluster of fellow Illuvidites as they guard their home garden from invading herbivours and tend to the garden's mother trees and newborns. Eventually they will reach sexual maturity and proceed to the mating rituals. They're a hermaphroditic species so at least two of them are required to reproduce. Most of the time they will engage in massive orgies when there are more sexually mature Illuvidites in their garden.
The fourth and final stage is the mother tree stage. Once they've collected enough genetic materials from various partners to increase genetic diversity they will begin to take root and grow into giant palm tree-like trees. After the growing is done they will begin growing seed pods around their trunks. Once the pods are big enough the pods are then ejected from the mother tree and the cycle begins anew. The mother tree will continue producing seed pods until it dies from natural causes. Some will even last for thousands of years turning into giant mother trees surrounded by a village of its children and grandchildren.

>>236308
Whatever this is begins to use its weird head feelers to brush away dirt in their way, as well as weak rocks. The ones who have slightly more curved thingies were better at doing this, and thus bred more, leading to the thingies curving far forward.
Also, excessive use caused the skin on these to harden and roughen, gaining a coarser colour.

Honestly we should allow for species to evolve tools and shit. Most of the fuckers are already advanced as hell (intelligent, bipedal, thumbs, social) so there's not much evolution left to do expect draw balls and dicks onto everything.

OP there is other types of animals on this planet right?
If not I don't really see how 5 different apex predators can survive.
>>243467
We could either make offshoots from some of them and gradually turn them into prey animals or plants or OP could introduce a new species into the game.
>>243467
The sistem where only the most recent evolutions survive has led to a planet of apex predators. A food chain mechanic could help in this situation.

ATTENTION TO ALL PLAYERS
ATTENTION TO ALL PLAYERS
Okay now that I got your attention; as mentioned in >>242809 , there´s not much evolution left to do with the current organisms. But, instead of allowing them to evolve sapience, which I´m pretty much against, how about we start anew, in some sort of way?
What would you think of shifting "our powers" from the current creatures to four completely new basic evolutions in the current environment? I'll guarantee you that whatever's alive right now will not die out and automatically adapts, but we just don't "control" them anymore, and four new, clean organisms will take their place.
Since this is quite a big decision, you will have about 2.5 hours to vote: voting will be done at 18:00 CEST
Also, here's your new species, the Delex. It's amphibious, uses its two simple limbs to crawl through the mud and has strong jaws to chew on plant life.

lolwtf
Well, I'm a little late but poll's closed, 4 new organisms it is. Shall we start a brand new bread?
>>246144
yeah, let's get some new people in here
Many eons, have come and gone
Many species, emerged and perished
Many lives, created and destroyed
All that once was this world, is no more, and all that is has never been. The world is different now; full of life and fuller of death.
Many species are no more, yet some of them have proven to be more resilient, more cunning, more adaptable. These species have adapted much, and will adapt forevermore, for they have achieved the status of Apex Organism.
They are forever.
Making new bread right now, give me a while.
Its a bit out of topic, but since yall moving out and this happens to be the hottest evogame right now, is it okay for me to ask about some suggestion about a new adjective evo-game? Here are some of my pointers
>Start with 5 (2Herbs, 2Carns, 1Omni) IRL small animals with 2 Population each
>The goal is to spread the animals to all location, and make them suited to live there, which is conforming to the area Size and Population limit
>Placed in an Location not really suited for them
>The Location is a swath of lands, compassing several areas, each with their own Size Limit and Population Limit
If we play in a desert Location, then the areas would be Area1:Dunes, Area2:Rockyard, Area3: Hardgrounds, Area4:Oasis, Area5:Rock Cliffs or something like that
>Players roll for a catastrophe to befall some or all the areas, with selection provided by me
>You only has X amount of charges, in order to change an adjective that used to describe the animal. (X is always less than the total number of animals)
For example, we put a Poison Dart Frog in a desert. Poison Dart Frog can be described as being "Slimy" so we can take that out, or replaced it with "Dry" or some other shit to make it survive the desert and the catastrophe for a time being.
>We see how'd the animals that didnt evolved get their penalties
>For animals, penalties usually being reduced in population.
>For Areas, its usually the suitability thats being reduced. Each Areas had 3 Suitability charges. Animals that didnt suit the Limits or Catastrophe being unatended may cause it to drop by one point. Game is lost when you lose half your starting areas.
>Animals can spread over to another Areas when it had suited itself to its environtment or due to Catastrophe
Are there anything else I forget to cover? Thanks for your attention
>>246462
Sounds really interesting. Vastly different than a traditional evo game, but I'd definitely play it. Something you may want to cover too is the interaction between species; I've been asked to let different species interact many times over in this thread. No idea how to cover this myself, but the others might make some suggestions to you too.
Good luck with making something like this!
Goodbye terrax you were my favorite and i'll miss evolving you ;-;
>>246490
>>246528
Ayyo, thanks for the suggestions. Interraction between species are something that players must overcome by themselves, especially concerning Carnivores. Carnivores can only prey upon things smaller in Size than themselves, unless they got some Bonus Adjectives such as Pack Hunter, Poisonous, or Constriction, and even then, it can only affects creatures with small Size margin. Bonus Adjectives are somthing that creatures get during Bonus/Negotiation Phase, since I envisioned playing this with an avatar, that would help or taunt the players along the game. Somethings I had considered, are
>Reviving a Species/Area back to Life
>Swapping Species Area
>Upgrading Adjectives (Keeping a creatures "Sturdy" as permanent change, or Updrading "Sturdy" into "Hard Shell")
>Getting to know the Avatar by chatting, which may reveal his interest and favorite animal. Improving said animal continuously may give him incentives to give out bonus more frequent
Of course, everything must come at a price at some cost (Killing off another one, Removing all Bonus Adjectives fromanimals in an Area wide radius, Lowering the possible Area Suitabily in all Location by 1) but yeah, just talk it out
>>246753
>Carnivores can only prey upon things smaller in Size than themselves
Say that to me in real life and see what happens.
