I'm using firealpaca for drawing (its pretty good for being free) and then gifcam (also free, used to be a big scare about it having malware. It doesn't.)

I'm actually amazed how well this stuff has turned out, I've never really done 2d buildings before and I rarely do small scale pixel art.

Don't kill, just practice! I know how annoying that is to hear, but honestly it's the only real tip there is. Art takes work.
