Optimistically, the war will be over by the end of the year. But they've been singing that song for the last two and somehow, it's always another no-name town or nameless field or unknown hill.

And the war drags ceaselessly at the edges, until the world gets swallowed whole. The Pytherian warmachine have rolled across the border. While High Command scrambles and re-orients, a small group of milita and volunteers prepare for a raid . . .

Allright people, listen up.

Fresh from the flyboys, this is the small town of Imai in paperform. The main thrust of the Pytherian advance runs parallel to it, and so they've sent a small force to garrison. Our job is to advance, oust the defenders and fortify the place. More of a thorn in their side we are, the more heat they'll have to divert our way and so the longer Isvind Command has to recall and resupply a reaction force to try and dent the rolling waves of destruction.

No pressure here lads, but retreat isn't really an option.

Tactical believes - note the word - that Imai here is held by a small platoon of Pytherians, with only light support. Pathfinders, in other words. They'll have rifles, grenades and decent fighting spirit but their light armanent should prove their undoing.

They have set up TWO major operation centre - you'll see them here - a bakery, and the manor overlooking the two. On the approach they've fortified three buildings which provides them with an entrenched position. Root them out with grenades, flame or gas.

We'll be coming in here through the woods, and should therefore easily bypass their perimeter and be up close and personal before they know what's happening. It is possible that they will recieve LIGHT reinforcements coming up from the main advance.

Flyboys did tell me tell you they spotted a single light mechanized walker. We don't know where it is. If you get flanked by it, you can kiss our heavy support goodbye and your face next. Find it, and tear it to chunks.

They haven't had time to fortify so do not expect landmines, traps and other such pitfalls.

Now, having told you all that, you'll need to pick someone to handle the RADIO for this mission. Can't have all of you shouting at each other. Don't let the power to smite your enemies with mortar barrages get to your head.

The random traits are fantastic. I wanted to be a REGULAR TROOPER in order to learn the ropes but being the unlicensed psionic in hiding (they implant you with BOMBS in your SPINE!!) is so much better.

I'd say a large part of the reason was how easy it was to generate a character, get into the action, and replace one relative to your other skirmishes. It helps that you explictly mentioned that every unit is expendable.

The terrain alteration mechanic was very interesting and powerful. I think it's one of the few mechanics that makes stealth a viable mechanic in a skirmish. I'd like to see something like it in another skirmish you run.
