You arrive in Enor, village of the dead. This is a small forest village on the edge of the kindgom of Halongrad. It is mid-day You were sent here to look into a string of unusual murders. What do you do?

> 2 tavern

Taverns are always a good place to start when you need to get a lay of the land...
>>
You walk into the tavern. There are a few rough looking characters and the bartender. What do you do?
>>
>>1746910

> Approach the Bartender

> Ask about recent events and rumors
>>
>>1746910
>Eavesdrop on conversations around the tavern

>Eavesdrop on conversations around the tavern
You hear two men talking about stealing something from the temple.
Three men playing a game
Two men talking about a recent hunt
>Ask the bartender what he knows about the murders
Could be anything out here. Evil things in those woods. I see a lot of strange things come through this bar.
>>
>>1746911
A lot of murders lately. Happening at night. Hear it could be some kind of animal but who knows.
Otherwise keep your head down... you don't want to upset the wrong people out here.
If you like to hunt you can check out the hunting lodge in town.
If you're looking for work you can check with the guard.
>>
>>1746924

> Leave Tavern

> Locate the guard

> Inquire about jobs

> Inquire about the disappearances
>>
>>1746926
You remember seeing an old farmhouse that appeared to be turned into a makeshift barracks when entering the town and head there.

About ten men sit around tables. They do not have uniforms but instead light armor and weapons.

When you enter the building they stop and ask you your business.

If you want a job sure. We pay 10 gold a week. We need you to stand at the village gate from 10pm to 6am every night.

There have been 12 deaths in town over the past 8 weeks. They have all been horrific deaths. Victims torn apart at night.
>>
>>1746959
Any connections between the victims? Where were the bodies found? Causes of death?
>>
>>1746962

Supporting this...
>>
>>1746962
There is no connection we know of... first few deaths were hunters outside of town. Torn apart completely. Then the shoemakers wife was killed outside of the gate. Her intestines were torn out and eaten. After that there have been deaths both inside and out of the gate. Seems like the beast is getting more bold. We don't know how he is getting in and out though.

Victims: 5 hunters, shoemakers wife, baker, 3 wanderers, a guard and one of the priests.
>>
>>1746982

Sounds like some kind of large predatory beast...

> Ask the guard about the kinds of animals which are known to inhabit the wilderness around the village
>>
>>1746991
All kinds of terror lives in these woods. If you can imagine it... it probably exists in these woods in some hideous form. nothing has been bold enough to kill in the town for a long time though.
>>
>>1747007
Any idea how it keeps getting in without anyone noticing?
And how do we know it's just one beast we're dealing with?
>>
>>1747007

> Leave

> Walk the perimeter of the village. Thoroughly inspect the walls.

Assuming the creature is coming from the woods, it must either be climbing over the wall,(in which case we might find scratches or a stray tuft of fur), tunneling beneath the wall (which would also leave some pretty obvious evidence), can fly over the wall (which will be tricky to deal with), or is somehow hiding inside the settlement itself (which means we are probably dealing with something supernatural or mythological)...

Let's first try to eliminate the two former possibilities...
>>
>>1747008
We have no idea. We assume one beast because of the attack similarities... hopefully it's only one...
>>
>>1747014
You spend a few hours inspecting the outer walls. You do find scratches and fur throughout the wood wall but nothing that looks like climb marks. There is no evidence of tunneling .
>>
>>1747035
It is getting dark
>>
>>1747035
>>1747039

I suppose we should get ready for a stake-out

> Go to the Hunting Lodge
>>
>>1747046
You go to the hunting lodge. Inside is a great room with tables, books, a fireplace and an assortment of hunting trophies. There are about a dozen people inside.. cleaning weapons, talking
>>
>>1747053

> Probe them for information about the murders
>>
>>1747053
>>1747054
>And ask them about their own personal opinions about what's going on.
>>
I've seen the beast one of them says... I was coming back from a hunt when it rose from the trees. Right at dusk too. A huge demonic creature. Covered in fur with bat like wings
>>
>>1747061

So some kind of giant bat monster then?

> Ask them if they'd be willing to lend a hand in slaying this monstrosity
>>
>>1747070
Most of them say no. They are hunters of the mundane... deer, boar, maybe a wolf or bear...

Two will help for a price. One wants 20 gold. the other wants the head to display as a trophy. They both admit to have no idea how to kill it...

(you were offered 50 gold in the capital of Halongrad to come here and stop these murders)
>>
>>1747076

> Agree to their help. On the caveat that they both have their own ranged weapons. Preferably bows.

We will need a weighted net of some kind...

Our strategy will be to split up and will set up in the three highest vantage points in the village. If the creature shows itself we concentrate fire on its wings so as to ground it. This will make it far easier to engage, ensnare, and ultimately kill.

> Ask if any of your new companions own a net which we can use
>>
>>1747088
They agree to your plan. They both have bows... One of them has a fishing net for minnows... Not very strong or heavy but rather large. When should we post up they ask?

They leave and you make it to the guard post. The sun is now setting and it's almost dark. Besides the pointed palisade walls, the highest points are on the roofs. The temple bell tower is clearly the highest point.
>>
>>1747103

> Inform the captain of the guard that we intend to try to lure out the monster into a trap tonight

> Request the that guard conceal their presence tonight instead of doing their regular patrols, and to keep the regular civilians off the streets...

> Ask whether they could to extinguish all, or at very least most, of the torches illuminating the village...

> Ask whether they could spare any bowmen and regular guardsmen to assist with the ambush.

> Ask whether they would be willing to part with a torch or two.

My plan is to black-out the town and keep all of the citizens off the street. We will set up archers at several high vantage points, then We will light up our torch and patrol around in a place within range of all, or most of our ambushers. If all goes well the beast will descend on us, will get riddled with arrows, grounded, and then slain...
>>
>>1747123
The captain agrees to all of your requests. I have 5 bowmen to spare. He hands you two torches.

Everyone sets up on the roofs that you designate. As the sun sets the temple bell rings throughout the village. You wait until morning. From the woods you hear shrieks, screams, howls and all sorts of terrible noises during the night... But there was no sign of the beast
>>
>>1747136

> Thank the guard for their assistance tonight and ask that they aid you again tonight. If they agree ask they to meet you at the tavern when nightfall comes

> Tell your companions that you are going to investigate the region of woodlands from which the terrible noises came. We intend to return before dark, but with a lot of luck we can track down the creature's den. Ask them to join you in this task...
>>
>>1747146
The captain agrees and says that they will do whatever it takes for however long it takes.

Bran says that he is tired from being up all night. He will join you again tonight but needs sleep.

Hyatt claims to not need sleep and agrees to join you in the woods.
What are we looking for exactly he asks? There are lots of creatures and lots of dens in these woods.

[You are getting tired and hungry]
>>
>>1747158

> Tell Bran to go rest. We need him sharp and alert tonight...

> We're going to head in the direction of the disruptions that came from the forest last night, and look signs of atypical activity. Your knowledge of the surrounding wilderness may help us differentiate such signs from those left by the usual wildlife. Something capable of making the noises we heard last night must have left a trace...
>>

>>1747172
Hyatt pulls out some jerky and starts to eat and you two set off. He explains that those are the normal noises of the forest here. It's a scary place at night.
>>
>>1747186
After a few hours of searching Hyatt brings you to the entrance of a huge cave... if I was a giant bat monster this is where I would be he says. The cave smells awful and has blood and guts thrown around it.
>>
>>1747186
>>1747191

Well...

> Gather wood and kindling from the surrounding forest and build a bonfire in the month of the cave. Set it alight, and then quickly go hide a safe distance away and see what happens...

If there is a giant bat monster in that cave we'll smoke it out...

> Tell Hyatt that if anything monstrous comes out to not attack it. We're just here to get a better idea of what we are dealing with. Not to bring it down. Not yet anyway...
>>
>>1747203

>>
>>1747203
You spend another hour or so building a bonfire. It is huge and ablaze. A hundred or so bats fly out shortly, but no sign of anything else in the cave. It is mid-day

[You are very hungry and very tired]
>>
>>1747245

That was anti-climatic...

> Let's head back to town. We should get some rest before night falls...

Outside of Enor you find some tubers and a small den made by a fallen tree. It was cold, the food is barely edible and the rest wasn't good. You wake up at dawn and travel North. You walk until it starts to get dark, now surrounded by trees.

[You are hungry and tired]

You continue wander aimlessly for a few more hours without much luck. It is now dark and you are very hungry and tired.

Due to the consistent lack of sleep and poor diet your STR has decreased by 1.

You stumble upon some mushrooms that you believe to be edible. Although you are able to keep most of it down, the stomach discomfort makes sleeping difficult. When morning come you continue to travel in the direction that you think is north. After a few hours you come across an abandoned town covered in giant spider webs.

[You gain knowledge survival (poor): can't start a fire, build basic shelter, construct basic tools or identify most common plants and animals)

>>
>>1754018
knowledge survival (poor) is very limited knowledge of some plants and animals, knowing not to sleep on wet ground, recognizing the sun's position to time and temperature, etc.
>>
>>1754020
The town is small with less then a dozen buildings. You spend a few hours searching and don't find much. The food has been eaten or rotten away and the buildings seem to have been ransacked and burned. You do find some mummified corpses preserved in web and the following items that are old and worn but may be of interest: broom (3), cauldron, rope, burlap sacks (6), wooden spoon (5), iron pot (3), waterskin (empty), bedsheet (6), rug (4), candles (5), torch (3) and the following old and worn furniture stool (4), chairs (12), tables (3), bed (5), cooking spit (3), bench (2). And burned or worn lumber, logs and stone from the buildings.

It is a little past midday. You are tired, hungry and very thirsty.

Use the rope and burlap sack to make a backpack.
Put the waterskin and 1 torch in it and go look for water.
>>
>>1754071
You take a: rope, burlap sack, waterskin and torch and continue heading in the direction you think is north. The spiderwebs keeps getting thicker and after about an hour you come across a spring that you drink from and fill your canteen.

You have ok luck finding some catails by the waters edge and realize they have an edible root, but you spend awhile doing this and it is now dark. You start to hear noises all around you as you stand up and take a few steps back the spiderwebs tangle your feet.

You attempt to dive into the water but are still tangled in the web. Struggling to pull your leg out, you trip. Landing on the webbed floor, you feel a large mass of coarse hair press against you.

You manage to roll to the side and stab the beast in its throat, but it's too late... The spiders venom is already rushing through your veins...

You go stiff as a swarm of spiders engulf you, wrap you up in a cocoon and hang you with the other meals. They say that death isn't pretty... And well, your death wasnt. As the venom continued to run through you, it eventually turned your corpse to mush. A swarm of hungry baby spiders drank what was left.
