Great Gatsby meets Mad Max on the Eastern Seaboard, where everyone--and thing--from the Rhodes Warriors to Jersey Devils threatens a wayward travelers' life.

We begin our journey along the ruins of U.S. Route 1, running the Eastern Free States' spine. In the wild southern state of Savannah, the woods and towns alike brim with risks--and rewards.

Forced to wander, the records don't say--

It's far in the future, but trends and fashion have come around to the 1930s--with some notable deviations. Technology has regressed due to things the average person doesn't comprehend--they merely know that ancient technology can be more useful and durable than what is produced in the current age.

Origin

>Officer

A fine choice. We'll see if anyone has another vote to cast.

>>1737947
Can you give some setting intro? Maybe showcase what these notable deviations are? Might stir up more interest.

As well, what are the differences between the classes? Honestly your opener was pretty vague dude. I don't even know what system you're using.

It's a paired down version of this system, using the same lore

Sorry, I ran quests awhile ago on /tg/ and people would complain the OP was too phatt, though looking at these current quests that seems to no longer be relevant data.
>>
>>1737980
Yeah the board culture is different. Post length is longer too.

Looks neat. Let's see if other people show up.

New quests can be pretty slow to start here sadly.

A stern, no nonsense woman in her just turned 30 late 20s. Slightly jaded about Authority from her time in the army, but she still holds onto the discipline and the ideals, although she's more willing to compromise her means for a good end.

Fairly independent, she had a lover in the past but it never quite turned into a marriage.

Or not just tossing stuff out.

That's fine, I'll give a bit more narrative here in the read in the meantime

______________
Savanah is beautiful, but its wild growths threaten to consume travelers whole.

Literally.

The land is fertile, but bandits from 'Lanta out West make even the parts free of maneating plants a tough travel. We're making our way north, where the promise of safety and riches is more immediate for those without deep family connections.

To wit, we stand on a particularly well kept patch of Route 1. Cars and trucks occasionally go by, as well as roving packs of bikers. More commonly folks walk, else ride some poor downtrodden beast of burden. Horses, tuskers, sometimes drawing a carriage with folks or goods in the back. Everyone's on their way somewhere, as well armed as they can afford, and keeping their head down.

Viney ferrocrete crumbles on the roadside, and on a hill a giant metallic tower like a pill capsule with the barrel of a long white gun juts out with a glass end. Folks around call it the Star Tower, and mention some old story. It's far out of the way though.

The next town's ten miles on. We think we could make it before nightfall.

Immediately to our left is a "Bucket O Meat." Their neon lights buzz suggestively--there's power here, at the least a generator. Their renowned Bucket O'Meat is a staple in many southerners' diets. Just what's in it though, who knows.

We are Lucille Graff. We have an old (3/5) Cavalry Saber, a good-as-new (3/3) Westatum Special seven-barrel revolver fully loaded with a speed loader at our hip, and $2.40 in our pocket. We wear worn (3/4) officers' fatigues, according us some degree of respect from EFS patriots--and ire from treasonous scum.

The Bucket'O Meat is inviting with its buzzing neon lights and offer of mystery meat for only ¢25. Sustenance never hurts along the road.

The strange tower in the distance reminds us of the ancient architecture of the Annapolis naval facility we once shipped out from, that strange white glitter that never seems to fade in spite of being rimmed with holes and crust. The undergrowth between here and there could be full of dangers, however.

There are occasional vehicles--we're not given to trusting strangers or relying on their kindness, but if we felt like hitchhiking, the next town's a mere ten miles north.

Of course, if we don't get going soon, we could be stuck outside at night.

A woman of action, Lucille decides to trek out to the tower. It's a short hop over a halfway crumbled concrete barrier off to one side of the Bucket'O Meat into the green. There aren't many paths immediately obvious, but some underbrush is lighter than the rest, so we hack our way through. The Saber holds up.

Strange flours with purple rims seem to waft pleasant aromas around the thick woods. The forest floor is covered in green vegetation, and dark thick wood sprouts up all around. The heat of the sun is blocked here, but the air is thicker--a little harder to breath, for some reason.

>Tactics
It occurs to us we're easy pickings for an ambush, and draw our revolver with our off-hand. Seven full shots in the cylinder and a speedloader at our hips, we should be plenty fine for the local wildlife--and if they get too close, the Saber's ready too.

The tower's out of sight, but we're close. There's a bit of a rocky outcropping that clearly leads onwards and upwards, but it wouldn't be an easy climb.

To the right, there seems a winding path, though it's slicked with a lighter green vine we're not too familiar with. Something chirps loudly in the woods, putting us on guard.

>Wait, trying to discern the cause of the sound (1d10)
>Climb the rocks to the base of the tower (1d10)
>Begin up the winding vine-covered path to the tower (1d10)
>Other (1d10)
Note: if your selected option calls for a d10 roll, roll 1d10. Target numbers are hidden and what skill/trait is being used is generally not announced outside of combat, but this may change later.

Warily, we crouch in the thickness of the foliage, drinking in every sound and carefully tracing its origin. Birds chirping above. Something moving in the brush. A slithering along the ground--we turn to look, but there's nothing there but plants.

Lucille sighs, turns around and steps forward.

Wait a minute.

Plants!

Whirling around just in time to get raked down the front by a barbed vine, we swing our cavalry saber. The barbed yellow bulb of a mouth that "plant" has angled towards us is rowed with thousands of tiny thorns, slicked with rows of dried blood, and two thin, barbed tendrils whip about to attack us.

Our clothing's been ripped, a few buttons taken off, but thankfully we don't seem to be bleeding.

Taking quick aim we fire at center of mass and...

... hit! The Westatum Special rocks us back with a heavy shot, but our firearm experience allows us to easily keep control of the beast.
Green and yellow ichor splash across the forest floor, a strange gurgling as if though the scream of something without a mouth hurdles through the air and a terrible stench that nearly makes us wretch up our guts wafts over us from the creature's flaccid petal-lined murderhole of a mouth.

The chirping of birds has ceased for the moment, and after a quick rustling of the grass things are silent on the ground as well. The forest's creatures have learned to fear the sounds of gunfire--but humans may be curious.

Lucille eyes the jagged ascent, screw her courage to the sticking place, and puts a hand to the edifice. We climbed for only a few moments, but it's taxing on our reserves of strength--the handholds are rough and narrow, our hands bruised from the effort.

At the vital point as we're pulling ourselves up over the ledge we absentmindedly let ourselves sway too far right and into a thorny vine. Pulling away we bash ourselves into the rocks and nearly fall--ultimately we grasp for something in the underbrush to sustain us and feel more pricks.

With the alternative being plunging down the whole way we grasp even harder, digging the thorns into our flesh, and pull ourselves over. A few hard slicks later, we're standing at the base of the white pill capsule of an observatory with blood on our hand and our clothes tattered (1/4). We make a mental note to seek out a sowing kit and take a quick look around.

The main structure is huge, a rotting walkway circling the bulbous tip of the tower. There's a part of the wall that would seem to be a door, but there's just a perforated sheet of metal over a gray metal slab with no obvious handle.

To the right side, a black glass panel. It has no obvious function.

Vines and branches brush the sides of the observatory. It's a longshot, but if we could clamber up along the side we may find entrance into the tower from the ruined gangway.

There's a strange pair of white prongs wide enough to walk on two abreast each that juts off a side of the hill. A tree has grown up between them and birds nest on one of the prongs, but the inside seems to have a heavy black lining that various bits of metal--lug-nuts, screws, and some strange looking coins--cling to.

>Investigate the prongs (1d10-1)
