Ages ago, your body was entombed. Your soul believed to be lost to death, your mind believed to be shattered forever.
Perhaps once, but not anymore.
Your heart thumps with life, the steady flow of blood bringing awareness of your body and your surroundings. Millenial muscles contract and stretch once more. Articulations produce satisfying pops as you experimentally crack your knuckles. Shakily rising to your feet, you cannot help but wonder what happened. You feel withered. Atrophied. Ancient. This is not what you remember.
Inspecting the tomb, it feels apparent that you had, or possibly still have, a certain fame. Rich decorations of even richer colors. Purpureum, Viemer, Irrigo, Fulcro. Kaleidoscopic decorations of terribly valuable crystals. Images, detailing your greatest feats, etched in pure gold. A sarcophagus of precious Crackstone lays open, apparently broken from the inside. You were not there. Who was in your tomb? More importantly, who was in your sarcophagus?
Observing the trials of your previous life, etched into the golden walls for eternity, you cannot stop the thoughts forcefully resurfacing within your mind.

>LEGENDS SPEAK OF: THE BRAWLER OF DRAGONS
You trace the etchings with your very own hands, carefully observing these accurate depictions of your glory. Within them, you find yourself.

The Hero.

He who hunted all dragons, to the end of the earth. Armed with nothing but his very own fists and the armor strapped to his body. Armor which was made, of course, from the scales of the dragons you mercilessly executed. Ripped from their corpses, grafted together, they formed the most formidable of protections.
Before you is depicted The Great Dragon Hunt. A story known by everyone.
In the first ages of mankind, humanity and dragons lived together, in harmony. The men, small, fleshy, but incredibly sly and quick on their feet. The dragons, slow, harmless, but magical and terrifying. This perfect life all changed, when Burphagor rised.
“King of the Dragons”, the beast nominated itself. It lead dragonkind to a bloody crusade, hellbent on removing mankind from their own homeland. Humanity was caught unprepared, and countless innocent men and women perished. Their corpses charred. Their lives lost.
Men organized themselves. This senseless slaughter would not stand. A war was in order. The Dragon Slayers were created. A group of heroes, mercenaries and knights. You were one of them. You were THE Dragon Slayer.
The etchings speak of how, while battling a fearsome Dragon of Sand, your greatsword, made of Mystical Ore, was shattered in one thousand and one pieces. Your own memories complete this story. You jumped within the Dragon’s maw, tearing the beast from the inside.

From that moment, none escaped your hands.
Constantly soaked in the blood of those hellbeasts you battled, grasping at sharpened fangs and impaling the dragons on them, tearing out their eyes, or simply cracking their skulls open with your fists. The story of how you carved a bloody path within their ranks to arrive at their leader is legendary. And facing their King, you did not falter. You tearing out the monster’s seven hearts and being stained of their blood made you invincible.

But something is not right, here… The etchings stop. What happened after? No more memories come from your mind. Something is amiss…

Just then, something catches your eye.
A shine in the gold. A human body. Your reflection.
It is terribly wrong.
You remember your glory. Your muscles, bulging, filled with strength. You could pin a Dragon’s wings behind its back. You could break its jaw with a few punches. You could tear its scales from its skin. This… This is not what the heroic legends speak of. This is not you.

Or is it?

This IS you. After ages spent in the tomb. Your body is a desiccated corpse. Ancient muscles strain, atrophied and withered. Sunken eyes stare up at you. Just what curse was placed upon you?
You avert your eyes from this horror. Looking down at your arms, it is true. All that power, lost forever. The Dragon Brawler is no more than a shadow of his former self.
You are sickened. Your throat is dry. Your head aches. Your heart thumps.
You are alive.
But what exactly caused your entombement? Perhaps the sarcophagus holds more answers.

Nearing the invaluable piece of masonry you cannot but appreciate the exquisiste craftsmanship of it all. Made by the hands of a true master, of one of the most precious materials known to the world. Crackstone. The name comes from its appearance: Crackstone looks just like regular stone, except for the fact that it has “veins” of precious minerals running all over it. Extracting it properly is a long process, where even the smallest mistake could ruin it forever.
What captivates your attention, however, is not exactly that. Something lurks within it. You see movement through the shadows. Perhaps an animal. Perhaps something else.
Shall you open it?

>You may have lost your strength, but you have ages of experience. CRUSH THE BEAST

> 65 - A POWERFUL BLOW

The... Thing shifts in your sarcophagus. Shadows cover its form. The drums of war play in your ears. Ancient fighting techniques spring forth from your subconscious.

Shadows spar with one another, and their moves are yours. Hooks, uppercuts, haymakers, jabs, you master any technique. Stepping around your enemy, circling the foe, time seems to slow down.
Each step is carefully placed.
Each movement is perfect.
Your stance is masterful.
Just then, the sarcophagus shoots open. Out comes a beast you are acquainted with.
One of the lizardfolk.
Servants of the Dragons. Used by their masters as cannon fodder in the Great Dragon Hunt. Nobody ever knew where they came from. Some suspect they are some unnatural mix between Dragons and humans. You never cared. You broke their necks regardless.

Judging by the bandages wrapped across its fists, this one must be a brawler too.
You wonder how this beast got here. You realize it does not matter. The lizardfolk leaped in your direction.

Sidestepping its scaly body, you deliver a powerful blow to the foe's side. Some of its scales get crushed. Your knuckles are red. With its leap ruined, the enemy crashes on the ground, directly into a pile of gold.
One second and it is back on its feet.
You raise your eyebrows.
Impressive.

>You and the enemy are circling.
>Both your guards are up.
>You footwork is better than his.

Lizardfolk Brawler: Side wounded / Ferocious

The Hero: No wounds / Legendary

(These be some terrible rolls. Good thing you chose the safest move)

> 44 + 10 (Defensive Stance)

>54 - CLASHING OF FISTS

You scowl and begin holding your hand, to trick the lizardman into an attack. Moving back on wobbly feet, you carefully observe the enemy's moves. It takes a quick step forwards, and that confirms to you that the bait was taken.
You shift your body, keeping it at an angle, making it harder for the lizard to get a good hit.
Just as the beast's fist shoots forward, you hook it with your arm, ready to deliver a strong uppercut to its jaw.
It never connects.
The lizardman catches your wrist, blocking a hit that would have surely sent it reeling backwards.
You resort to a simpler move and bring your body forward, crashing your head against the foe's.
It staggers back, confused.
You start bleeding.

>You are circling your enemy
>Both your guards are up
>Your footwork is much better than his

Lizardman Brawler: Moderately Wounded / Ferocious / Stunned

The Hero: A scratch / Legendary

>Move in now that it is confused! [Increased damage, Not changes to difficulty (stunned)]

>83 - A TERRIFYING STRIKE

This is it.
You feel it.
The lizardman is wide open. His feet shuffle awkwardly. His arms threaten to drop any moment.
You move in.
One step is all it takes, and the distance is closed.
Your body twists, muscle memory doing all the work you need. Your leg comes up with it. Your foot impacts on the lizardman's eye.
It is sent sailing away, the right part of its skull completely shattered. Blood gets splattered on the wall as the now lifeless corpse impacts upon it.
It crashes on the ground with a "thump".

You exhale as the tense muscles of your chest, legs and arms relax.
Finally, back into the thick of it.
Your heart thumps madly in your chest, bringing an invigorating flow of blood to your body.
Newfound strenght surges through your veins.
Throwing your head back, you roar.

>THE DRACONIC RAGE

A wave of primordial power hits your body, quaking your very being and making you feel nothing but rage.
Rage and bloodlust.
Roaring, you throw yourself over the dead lizardman. Grabbing its lifeless corpse by one arm, you swing it all around the room, tearing it chunk by chunk.
Coming back to your senses, minutes later, you find the tomb painted in blood.
Your hands are dirty of it, dried and darker in shade.
Your eyes close and you fall back, exhausted.

>Unlocked: Draconic Rage [The same frenzy you were known for during The Great Dragon Hunt. When The Hero enters this state, he becomes a formidable fighter. Prolonged use may cause repercussions.]

Awakening after who knows how many hours, if not days, you slowly push yourself to your feet. Apparently, that clash with the lizardman brought back the Dragon Hunter within you. Yes, you can feel it. With the Dragon Rage, none shall stand in your path and survive.

The Tomb is silent. No more lizards that want your death, for now.

>Inspect the Sarcophagus closely, now that you can.

>Dig around through all these riches. Perhaps there is something of use, perhaps you will find out more about yourself.

>A revelation...

With one hand over your aching forehead, and the other ready in case other beasts decide to jump out of nowhere, you make way to the sarcophagus.
It lays as you had left it, half-open. Peering inside, there is some other shape in there. This one is not moving.
With some effort, the lid is pushed off.
Inside, you see something terrible.
An empty skull stares up at you. Hollow. Grinning. Evil.
The skeleton is wearing a suit of armour, identical to the one you wore during The Great Dragon Hunt. You refuse to believe these are your remains. What did the lizardman want here? More importantly, what could this mean?
The sarcophagus has brought more questions than answers.
In the piles of gold, however, you find something.
A weapon so great that its arrows could pierce through a Dragon's solid scales.
A crossbow specifically made for The Great Hunt.
The Ballista.
The sight of this fearsome arm has you remember of something else. Or someone else.
Another Dragon Slayer.
Another Hero.
You feel a strong kinship connecting you to this man.
A friend.
You must find him.

Take the ballista - even if we don't find our friend, we might find new terrors in this unknowable new time that our fists might not be enough to fend off. Once we have that, we leave. Nothing left for us in here - even the gold might be of no use.

You put one hand over the Ballista, admiring the fearsome weapon. Durable wood and Mystical Ore were used in its creation, making it the bane of dragonkind. It shot projectiles which traveled faster than light itself. Perhaps, you should take it, and bring it to the Dragon Slayer you saw in your vision. You do not have any use of it, after all, besides using it as an improvised club. Yes, in the hands of a master this Ballista will turn into a weapon of destruction.
Hefting it over your shoulder, you realize that it may be much heavier than you first expected. Perhaps once you would have had no problems in carrying it.
Straining from the weight you move on, determined to get out of here. It is time you saw the world.
Passing near the open sarcophagus, you briefly glance at the Dragon Scale Armour. An Incredible protection, impervious against the strongest of blows. During The Great Dragon Hunt, you wore it as if it was a simple shirt of cloth. In this state, you would be pinned under it. Certain death. Coming back to take it would be a good idea, once your body regains its lost strenght.

You spare one last glance at The Tomb, ready to leave it forever (or at least for a long while). A clawed hand peeking out from a pile of gold attracts your attention. The lizardman, or what remains of it, may hold more answers.
Briefly leaning the Ballista on a wall, you make your way over to it, performing a swift search of its belongings.
You find nothing of note, except for a small medallion, in clay, depicting a clawed hand in the shape of a fist, striking at what seems to be the sun. Curious.
Setting the Ballista over your shoulders again, you begin making your way out of The Tomb.

Two great doors of stone hold the way outside closed. Instinctively, you know where the two hidden pressure plates are.
Pushing them both at the same time opens the way.
The stone doors open slowly, with a long groan as stone scrapes on stone.

You are free.

>END OF PROLOGUE

>THE GREAT HALL

Walking the Great Hall, immense statues of yourself and other heroes stare down at you. Depictions of glory, each of them holding dragon skulls in their hand. Rays of sun filter down from cracks in the stone, shining over yourself and over the statues. It seems that some of them have been defaced with blasphemous symbols. Dragons, crosses, and that same symbol the lizardman had on his medallion.

You hear a skitter somewhere deeper into the Hall.

59 - AN AMBUSH

Surging forwards, you rush in the direction where that noise came from. The skittering stops soon after, leaving you with no idea of where it went or what happened.
Setting the Ballista down, you observe your surroundings. This part of The Hall is pitch black.

You have no cues for your enemy's position.
Nothing.
Except for a snarl.

You manage to dodge the first lizardman sailing at you through the shadows.
The second you roll under.
The third you don't see.
It crashes against your back, hurting you all over. Not bad.

A twist and you're on your feet.
They're all around you.
It's not looking good.

82 - AN IMPENETRABLE DEFENSE

The beasts lash out at you from the shadows. They think you are cornered. They think you are vulnerable.
Fools.
You can hear their heavy breathing all around. Sniffing, snarling. Their hands grasping at the air, their eyes squinting to see through the darkness.
They're yours.
One lizardman lunges at you.
You backstep, dodging by inches.
Grasping its arm with one hand, you break it with a punch from the other, straight at its elbow.

>CRACK

You can hear the other two take a couple of steps backwards. The one who's arm you just broke lets out a snarl, lunging at you again.
You push it off, sending it into a wall.

And you're back at step one.

1 - DISASTER

The first round had gone well to you. Almost too well.
These lizardmen's endurance was inhuman. The one who's arm you broke had already got up. It didn't take much for all of them to leap over you at the same time.
You were just in time to dodge it.
Roll out of the way, and you would have been able to counter.
Just then, a withered muscle fails.
A leg gave up from under you, and you were on the ground.
Their attack was merciless.
Sharp fangs dug in your arms.
Claws tore at your chest.
Punches dealt on your back.
The beasts were ferocious. You escaped only through sheer desperation. The wounds were seriously taking a toll.
Blood pooled at your feet.
Your vision was hazy.
Your feet were awkward.
The beastmen spoke strange words in their blasphemous tongue.
Is this the end?

95 - UNFORSEEN. UNFORGIVING.

This is not the end.
For all the wounds that mark your skin, for all the blood you lose, for all the bruises on your knuckles.
You will not yield, and you will be relentless.
Aside from the steady thumps of your heart, the air is quiet.
You eyes have slowly adjusted to the darkness, and you can see shapes dancing around you. They are not waiting for a chance to strike. They are simply playing with a wounded prey.
They know nothing of you.
Springing to life, perhaps with revenge in mind, the lizardman whose arm you broke lunges at you, vicious claws finding nothing but air.
You dodge, and pull your arm back for a punch.
It springs forward with the strenght of ages long past, hitting its mark straight in the chest.
Behind those thin scales you can feel its sternum and whole ribcage crack and break under your raw power.
Your foe stumbles back, retching blood and slowly dying.
Hearing its ally's shrieks of pain, another one of the beasts pounces.
A swift knee is delivered to its jaw, cracking it in half.
You hear its body falling to the ground, perhaps dead, perhaps unconscious.
The last lizardfolk you don't hear coming. Instead, you hear a pair of feet skittering off in another direction.

>The enemy is FEARFUL!

86 - THE HUNT IS ON

That one won't get out of here so fast. You rise and begin running after it despite your wounds. The blood leaves a red trail, but it matters not in this situation.
The lizardman looks back, just in time to see a human shape leaping.
You collide with your prey, sending it tumbling to the ground.
It tries to push you off, but you are stronger.
And when the punches begin, there is no stopping you.
You deal a strong pummeling, mangling the fearful brawler's face beyond recognition.
As your hands become red and your knuckles clash against bone, you feel stronger than ever.

> HERCULEAN GLORY

With each punch that crashes out on the enemy, you grow stronger. With each broken bone, you feel the power making its way into your body.
Musculature shifts and tenses, growing with each strike.
And when the lizardman's scaly head is nothing but red pulp, you stand tall, hulking over its lifeless corpse. The first step to regaining that body which made you a legend, forever seared within mankind's history.
Flexing both arms, it feels as if you could crush any man's head with your hands.

Rising, you wonder what should be done now. The deeper you go in this enormous structure, the more lizardmen there may be. They hide in the shadows. At the same time, you could wait and rest for some time. That could expose you to danger, but at the same time help with the wounds sustained (altought, now you notice that some of them have closed by themselves). The last option would be simply to continue going the way you were going. Towards the exit.

You walk back, picking the Ballista off of the ground and making your way to the part of The Great Hall where sunlight still shines. It is not night yet, but the sun threatens to set soon. An orange glow is casted over you, shining over the Ballista's metal parts. You set it down gently, glancing at it one last time before focusing on yourself.

Entering into a trance, your conscious focuses on the inside. Exploring the body from head to toe, every single fibre of your being, from the smallest nerve to the greatest artery. The body begins moving on its own, each muscle knowing perfectly well how to move and when to contract. It all comes together into a dance of battle, one that brings strenght and readies you for war.

It all quickly turns to a haze, as mind and body are bruefky merged together. You come to moments after, relieved and refreshed. The wounds are still there, but your body has completely forgotten about them. To your mind, they are nothing but scars.

Filtering through holes in the roof is now moonlight. night has come.
