Hi.

I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing.

In case you don't know who I am, good. I'm the QM of European Dragon Quest, and also the greatly failed Conquistador Quest and even worse in my opinion, It which shall not be named.

If your expecting me to be good with civ quests, It'll take me a minute to get used to.

Anyways, here's the quick rundown on rules.

Votes and Dice

First of all, I go by the Highest Votes Wins for votes, and typically will give anons 15-25 minutes, sometimes less, sometimes more.

Rolls are decided by a 1d100, with dices towards the highest values such as 100's being worse, and dice rolls towards the lowest being the best.

Combat

Combat is decided by three actions.

>Attack (Swing with your fists, etc. Beats Dodge.)
>Special Attack (Shit like shooting a crossbow in the middle of a battle. Casting a fireball, etc. Beats Attack.)
>Dodge (Which beats Special Attack, and is aptly called Dodge.)

In addition, you won't have complete control over your civ. You will be actively either ignoring your ruler and hoping he dies so he doesn't fuck your shit up by deciding it'd be a fun time to invade another country, etc.

Basically, you do not exist to control the ruler. The ruler will do whatever he wishes, which will vary by his Ambitions.

A ruler's ambitions are telling of what they want to do in life, and generally fufilling them leads to a much happier monarch, a better king who can manage better, though if left unchecked can also spiral you into bankruptcy.

Champions, Heroes, and Politics.

Anons will have control over an "agent" so to speak. These agents are essentially your prophets, your warlords, your warmongerers, you name it. These are the playable characters, and at the very beginning Will be the ruler.

However, before we begin, we need to select your race.

This has been slightly modified from the original, keep in mind.

Choose a race and a location anons. I'll wait 35 minutes.
Feel free to ask questions for races.

Alright, this is really fucking close.

So why don't we go for a mix?

>City Ruins/Mana Wastes
and
>Humans, with Dark Elf Refugees.

Dark Elf Refugees will start of on the same moral principles of the Humans, and will be "neutral".

In addition, your starting leader is a Human.

You'd have at the beginning...

30 Humans.
10 Dark Elves

Or, we can call for a final absolute roll call to side for either Humans or Drow, or Mana Wastes or City.
>>
>>1568096
No mana wastes pls. That's perpetual rape

Having a mixed group like what you described though is good
>>
>>1568096
Humans and drow lets everyone get what they want for races

>>
>>1568096
No refugees, pure human.
>>
>>1568096
let's just go for a mix
maybe no mana wastes
>>
>>1568100
I'm not putting you on top of it, it'll be a fair ways away, but will pose a threat once you get larger, and some events will certainly happen around it.
>>
>>1568096
A mix of both at the mana wastes is fine
>>
>>1568096
And no to the mana wastes, almost every civ recently has been Wastes and died soon after.
>>
Looks like no mana wastes, but yes for city ruins and human/drow.

Now of course, choose a "starting culture".

Your starting culture affects what civs get along with your the best.

By the way, this is basically just choosing what your culture closely identifies as, not that they're literally Saxons etc...

>Nordic (Increased relations with Nordic-peoples, and your starting language is Nordic.)
>Celtic/Briton. (Increased relations with Celtic-Briton-peoples (Basically the Welsh, Scottish, Irish, and Old English)
>Greek (Increased relations with Greek peoples.)
>Roman (Increased relations with Roman peoples.)
>Orientals (Increased relations with Oriental civilizations (Basically Japan or China.)
>Rus (Increased relations with Rus peoples and civilizations. (Basically Russia.)

Anyways, this affects what type of names your people have, the architecture, etc. Completely vestigial. It'll also affect your starting climate.
>>

Alright, Japanese/Vikings it is.

So now anons...

Choose your starting ruler.

>Prophet. (Start with a religion. You start with a religious tribe following your commands with a prophet as it's ruler. Choose between Drow or Human.)
>Warlord (Start with a powerful warrior as your ruler, and a few trained troops and a few villagers under your rule. Choose between Drow or Human.)
>Merchant (Start with a cunning merchant as your ruler, with a loyal tribe of followers who he's recently bought out to follow him. Choose between Drow or Human.)

The stats of the ruler will be completely random anons.

Also, choose gender of Male and Female.

>>
Rolled 423 (1d1000)

Ashamed it is.

The ruler is Danhe Bannermaiden, a half-drow Warlord!

Her statistics.

10/10 Martial Skill
Danhe is a military genius in warfare!
6/10 Stewardship Skill
Danhe has a few ideas on how to properly manage a tribe or kingdom. Expect her to be above average.
5/10 Theology Skill
Danhe is not gifted in the field of Theology, but isn't a dunce at it. She can do basic religion.
2/10 Learning Skill
Danhe has a grudge against any sort of learning or technology. Expect her to be a very staunch traditionalist.

Rolling for ambition.
>>
>>1568282

You mean patriarchal and matriarchal anon

>>1568284

Well, one thing different from a regular civ quest. Good job QQM
>>
>>1568307
Which do you consider Matriarchal? Japs and Nords aren't very open to women ruling.
>>
>>1568314
well.... not entirely true. there were cases of women ruling in anglo-saxon times
>>
>>1568314
Think they mean humies + DElves

>>1568317
And they usually had a lot of shit because of it alongside them only ruling due to their being absolutely no one else.

>>1568318
Who cares what they think?
>>
>>1568284
Danhe's ambition is to become a renowned warlord.
Expect her to be a very aggressive, easily provoked warlord, and usually looking for an excuse for war or fame and glory.

Choose a government type.

>Tribal Monarchy. (Your ruler is a chieftain. Start with a bit more Authority.)
>Tribal Republic. (Your ruler is an elected chieftain. Start with a more happy people.)
>Tribal Theocrat (Your ruler is divinely-appointed chieftain. Start with a small-scale religion.)

Authority represents how seriously you're taken. Low authority means no one will do what they're asked, or even laugh you off! High authority means people think you're no one to be trifled.

With that done...

You and your tribe have hiked over many mountains to get to this point. Your tribe were forcibly cast out from their homes up north, and have taken a long trip to the central Southerlands.

You and the tribe and refugees know there's nothing left for you at home, and as your tribe descended into the huge, luscious valley, they set up camp around the ruins of a large destroyed... Megavillage, it's walls and towers towering above many hills your tribe has seen.

Your tribe has set up a small campsite, with little but a campfire to keep some of the women warm... It's right by the side of the elegantly white, ivory walls of the once great city. Many of your tribe are still stunned by it's size and beauty, having never seen anything like it.
Even those Dark Elves that came along were shocked...

...You worriedly hide your ears a bit deeper in the hide helm you wear. By the spirits, why did dad have to go and...

You quickly switch back to your reality. You still miss your father, who passed away trying to defend the home against the demons that attacked it... He died with an axe in his hands, like a true man.

You barely know anything of the surrounding countryside, beside the ample amounts of wood, and a fruit some of the Dark Elves of the tribe call "Apples".

There's also a surprising amount of blueberries, cherries, and what the Wise Woman says to be herbs around...

You have exhausted most of your supplies on the journey here, besides this wonderous construction of Man or Elf.

Your tribe.

Food: Almost Nonexistant!
Safety: NONE!

Learning Check Passed!

She stubbornly thinks about climbing the ivory, slick wall, seeing no other way after looking around the city...

It isn't too long until she realizes this is a bad course of action judging from how slick the wall is, and she finds a sewer outpipe, allowing her and the warrior to climb into the city and gain access from there... A handful of rats flee as you take a "investigative" approach. At least, for a bit.

You look around, and seem to have found yourself at the...

You are at what seems to be somesort of old, run down palace!

The very walls are made of a pleasant ivory marble, and many old banners still fly, the halls strangely isolated. The halls look as clean as... Well, you've never seen anything so shiny or clean.

Many of the glass windows throughout the palace seems strangely opaque, and you just... You have an awful feeling that underneath all this tranquility, harmony, and order that something dark lurks here... It grows more... It in fact, is noticable... A hint of blood on the carpets... Something shimmering oddly on the walls and moving away... Like it was invisible or a glint of the eye...

Perhaps you should leave...

You of course, get out of the sewer and begin to look around.

Much of the city is damaged, worn down, old... Generally uninhabitable.

It however, doesn't take you too long to find an overgrown fountain, an oasis among the urban desert. The fountain seems to have slowly degraded to a large pond-like oasis, with fresh clear water. Half-a-dozen trees grow around it, and plenty of fresh flowers bloom. The building surrounding this have not been untouched, and some have vines climbing up it's walls or in one case, a tree branch through a window.

You seemed to have found a very minor fresh water source in the city!

Not too far away from you seems to be the "Garden" district, which seems truly overgrown and a bit... Wild.

You decide to clear out the nearby buildings.

Choose from the following.

>Clear out an absolutely huge marble longhouse next to the oasis!
>Clear out what seems to be a few stores next to the oasis!
>Clear out somesort of crude mead hall!
>Perhaps you should take care of the large oval building from earlier?

Keep in mind, Danhe has little idea of what the hell these buildings actually are, so you'll have to guess.

I'd say we start with something small, that we can defense with our small tribe. Then we have base where we can scout the other buildings nearby.

On your journey to the smoke, you run into a small mountain stream.

You have found a fresh supply of water! You quickly inscribe this on a stone tablet!

You cross over a small stone bridge, and you hear... Snoring beneath it...

You cannot help your natural curiosity, as befits your learning, and you poke your head down there...

It seems like someone has made a small campsite. There's a strange wooden object, with strings attached on it, with a sort of wooden belly and a neck attached to it, the strings going from the neck to the end of the belly, which has a hole in it.

You quickly inscribe this down for the future.

What do anons want to do?

You yell to see if anyone is in there.

You hear a grunt, a "huh?" and a somewhat angry sigh from within.

The tent begins to open, and you hear angry muttering, coming from inside, as you assume he seems to be putting something on...

Eventually, somesort of large, green man comes out, with plenty of muscle on him, two tusks, and a angry snarl. He is not very happy from being woken up, and is only wearing pants...

If you had to hazard a guess, you would assume this would be an Orc from your father's tales, and his father's tales... A notably agrgessive, easily angered, and barbaric race.

He says something to you in a foreign language, and is seemingly angry at have been woken up.

The Orc seems to relax a bit once you offer food, and attempt to communicate with him. You ask him about knowledge of the local area, and it takes a bit to get it across to him.

He grabs the strange item you saw on entering his camp, and plucks the strings, making a rather interesting sound. He seems to be a skald of somesort.

He draws in the dirt a small map, and it seems he was traveling away from the smoke you saw earlier. Apparently he seems to be a traveler. Upon asking why he's a traveler, he thinks for a minute, and draws in the dirt a crude drawing of chains.

Strange.

You delve a bit deeper, and quickly ask him what exactly the smoke is. He thinks for a brief moment, and seems to be trying to communicate back through drawings, and trying to portray something...

You think he's trying to portray a race of "short people" there. He even strokes his chin for some reason.

Hm.

He eventually sighs, gives up, and offers you a drink. Curious, you drink it... Which has a startling affect on your head.

You feel somewhat woozy, and try to inscribe this down.

The Orc seems surprisingly intelligent, and not too brutish. Besides missing a shirt.

You continue to communicate with him, about foods in the local area, anything of interest.

He takes out a red circular... Well, fruit, it seems, and bites into it. It certainly seems apples are common, and he shows you what seems to be of course, plentiful amounts of blueberries, cabbage, corn, and potatoes.
Oh, and also cherries.

He points into the forest, and points back to most of these. It seems like the forest has quite a bit of food in it then.

He also goes back to the drawing of the map, and seems to be drawing what seems to be an... Island.

Hm. It seems like you're on somesort of island.

He draws a few points of interest...

It seems like there's a civilization to the south-east, in a desert. He warns you to stay away from them too.

You manage to grab a good sum of herbs before fleeing off...

You seem to be getting closer to the smoke, but the howls are still coming behind you.

"What in the spirit's name has nature so agitated here..." You ponder, on your hike through the wilds. Whatever is agitating the wolves to hunt you down, is clearly not natural.

Perhaps it is a mark of old age, or being senile, but you know that it is rare for a wolf to hunt an armed man... Even rarer for a wolf to kill five full grown men, and still chase after you. Luckily, you have a good headstart...

But without a doubt, they're faster then you.

However, you have a fortunately good idea.

You grab some stones in your slow retreat, and start to carve them as you move. You turn them into sharpened stones, and begin to hide the sharpened stone stakes among the brush, and you purposely move through it...

It doesn't take too long before you hear a yelp in the far off distance, indicating your traps are successful...

You eventually manage to get out of the forest, and climb up a hill...

The wolves were closer then you realized, as you notice them slink after you cautiously... Hunting you.

But once you reach the top of the hill, you notice them back off. Perhaps whatever afflicts them still lets them notice civilization and avoid it.

You turn to the smoke.. It seems to be coming from the mountain not too far from you. A small metal gate marks a potential entrance to civilization, and not being murdered by what lies in the depths of the forests...

You tell him this, and he nods.

"Aye. Though beware of the mutts and beasties out there. Many of em' have gotten our lumberjacks and worse."

"Truly?"

"Aye... Now, how would ya' like to see the king?"

"King?"

"Aye. It ain't a big dwarven hold like in the the tales, but it does noicely for a place like this, eh?"

As you travel through the hold, you notice there's only a small handful of dwarves. It's a small tribe of probably around 100-200 dwarves at the least, maybe 400 at the most.

However, these dwarves seem to have small lizard-like servants like the one the orc described. They seem to be enslaved, most of the dwarves ignoring them...

The dwarves seem to have plenty of iron, metals, weapons, and armor, along with technology...

Huh.

You decide to inscribe a bit of this...

Thanks to your high learning, you can gather technology!

Roll me a 1d100 to see if you gain any valuable tech.

You simply come up with the idea for stone architecture, and perhaps to copy off the dwarf design..

New Tech: Stone Buildings can be studied!

Of course, all that's left is to meet the king, and as you descend a long staircase, you go to the throne room...

How do anons want to present themselves to the Dwarven king?
>>
>>1572963
Not knowing any of the etiquette of around here we'll just stand up and present ourselves as a scout from a nearby travelling tribe.

The dwarf king does not seem overly pleased, or overly angry. He is completely neutral.

"Who the bloody hell are you?"

The dwarf king is seemingly very old, with a thick white beard and wrinkles on his eyes and side...

He is quite not convinced.

"So, what the bloody hell are you coming here, lying to me fuckin' face for?"

The dwarf now seems offended. Great.

It doesn't take too long for him to quickly lose interest in you after you tell him your tribe are refugees, and he still isn't exactly happy. He tells you to stay where-ever the fuck your tribe is and dismisses you.

...It's unlikely you'll be able to stay here, and it's quite unlikely the dwarves will send you back with an escort to protect you against the wilds.

He of course, gives you the terms.

25% of your wealth will be given to him. This can be increased at his will.
10% of your food is to be gifted to him.
He'll provide you with protection of about 45 dwarves.
Your populace is allowed to freely enter his hold.
He'll send along a few builders for you to build up.

Do anons want to argue about a condition, accept, or decline?

Accept it is.

You begin to headback with the dwarven guards. They're wearing chainmail, have iron shortswords, and shields.

They have about 20 HP each, and +4 to damage, and 2 Toughness. They're much more strong then your average warrior, who has 5 HP and -1 to damage.
