Post Apocalyptic future in the land of North America. You've been raised in California, or, precisely, what was left of it. You didn't have parents, your real family were couple of old geezers with whom you hang around with, listening to their stories about survival in wasteland.

You've learned to hunt, craft, heal and use guns when you were already 12. And you were among the best scavengers and gunmen around this place when you grew 18.

But it wasn't the real deal. You knew from stories that beyond California lies a great land of unseen things. Places that nobody ever visited after the nuclear apocalypse.

You knew stories and legends about it since your youth, and you got more than curios. When you became 20, it was the time for a great decision.

You've picked everything you thought necessary for your lasting survival, and you left to explore... The Mighty Stillness

But before we begin our journey, would you remind me your name?

Still here if anons are interested

Also here, I'm just not one to come up with names.
>>1524376
Sure, this works.
>>

Cool. Name your character and chose your next action
>>
>>1524379
What are our options for actions? Where are we?

And I assume our gear consists of a pair of matched revolvers

'Roland Stevenson is my name... and I like it'

After walking a few miles away from your home, you've decided to carefully check again all the contents of your rucksack

- Old rusty compass
- A map of California with red markings of different locations, there are no indications on the border though.
- One big and full flask of water containing 5 liters
- Bullets for revolver and sniper rifle, 36 for first and 18 for second
- A newly bought army knife in case you loose bullets
- Spare pair of trousers and socks
- 3 cigarettes and a full matchbox
- Old timey photo of Jack Nicholson playing Gittis in Chinatown
- 2 medpacks
- Piece of fresh meat rolled into hard cloth, needs to be cooked within 2 days

-Old model Sniper Rifle 'Casablanca' No 75-1956, served you good all these years but sometimes it jams
-Revolver 'One Eyed Bob' No 4567

You need to find nearest town and ask about places that lie in the middle of North America, but before that you need to cross miles of unknown wasteland and survive.

Where do you want to venture, Nevada or Arizona?
>>
>>1524415
Sorry for the wait
>>
>>1524420
Arizona. Less harsh climate than Nevada so it will hopefully be more populated.
>>
>>1524427
If we acquire a second revolver I vote we go full Gunslinger mode.
>>
>>1524420
>Where do you want to venture, Nevada or Arizona?
What's the difference between the two? It wasn't mentioned.
>>
>>1524439
Im thinking its just the starting area. Im hoping for us to be able to just be like a wandering bounty hunter
>>
>>1524448
That would be pretty cool.
>>
>>1524420
>Arizona

Nevada is mostly desert.

And so, after reminding yourself of the contents of your inventory, you finally take your first step into unknown... well, for you at least, land of Arizona

Upon walking through your first 20 miles cross the border you don't find anything quite unusual from California, but you are eager to explore it square kilometer by square kilometer and find out new loot and new interesting stories

Day dreaming about your new adventure while tapping good ol' revolver on your back you encounter... someone, wearing a large sack. You don't know who this is and you've never mat anyone with such appearance.

What should you do?
>>
>>1524495
"Howdy traveler. How goes the road?"
>>
>>1524495
>someone, wearing a large sack. You don't know who this is and you've never mat anyone with such appearance.
The pointy hat worries me, but the large sack gives me the impression he's either a courier or a traveling merchant. Most likely a merchant from the piece of paper sticking out of his sack.
Greet the traveler and ask him what tidings sends him on his travels.
>>1524448
Seems like it.

>>1524427
No worries, the delay wasn't that long.
>>
>>1524500
Seconding, no reason not to be friendly. Yet.

What about that pointy hat of his?
>>
>>1524531
Ah yes, the dreaded pointy head gang. Known throughout the land for their terrible deeds. My mistake, we should shoot him.
>>
>>1524537
Wise suggestion.

>You hear a muffled but pleasant voice coming from the mask, which seems to belong to an older person

"Hello youngster, I see you're new to this place. My name is Sylvester. I'm a traveling merchant and I know every man and woman who roams around Arizona. There's not a lot of them, you can hardly count a thousand souls. But they are good buyers though!"

"Right now I'm walking down to that army base you've passed behind to find some new merchandise. It's long past the time when real men went into the wilderness to provide for their families having only baseball bats and hockey sticks to choose from."

"...Do you even know what Hockey is?"

>He sizes you up, but you don't notice it

"Say there pal, you seem young, and tough, with lots of fire stored in your pockets. I don't usually venture to places like this on my own, But this time I was desperate... People need guns, and I need to provide."

"How about you make me company for a few hours while I look around the base? I sure we won't meet anyone there that could harm us, but just so I'd feel less worried about my bones. Do that, and I will trade you something good in return"

What do you say?
>>
>>1524598
You got yourself a deal Sylvester. The names Roland.

We a handshake kinda guy? I see us as one.
>>
>>1524598
>What do you say?
Sure, seems like some honest work for a good deal with an approachable fella.
>>1524600
>We a handshake kinda guy? I see us as one.
For an escort mission like this, I'd imagine we should shake on it.

>>1524598
>I don't usually venture to places like this on my own, But this time I was desperate
Who does he normally travel with?
>People need guns, and I need to provide."
Is there a war going on? We should ask him these questions along the way.

>>1524598
>MS4.jpg
On another note, is he wearing a pointy hat and robe? If so, what color are they? He could also be wearing a poncho or heavy coat.
>>
>>1524600
>>1524613
Seconding, also ask him what's up with the hat and what the nearest settlement's like.
>>
>>1524613
Deal.

Handshake.

See what he can tell us

"That's a good handshake. Stronger than a grip of death herself! Heh..."

"So, your name's Roland? Didn't meet anyone named like that before. But I remember, once I was in the big city...Phoenix. Was a good place for scavenging and trading just 20 years ago. Now it turned into a black hole in the center of Arizona. God knows what is happening there! Everybody who's went there didn't come back, and armed squads that were sent after them... they disappeared too. Now everybody's is scared of going down there."

"So what was I on about.. oh yeah! Just before that, I was looking for good in local library, and to my amazement I found and unburned book! Can you believe it? It has just a few pages torn off, but overall it stayed in great condition. Name of the book was 'Rolando Furioso', I could read it because it was in some weird language. A sold it that very day for 500$ to some mysterious looking guy and he told me that the language the book was written in was French "

"...So, point is, your name reminded me of that"

>Roland: Tell me Sylvester, you said you don't usually venture alone to these places. So who are your usual companions?

"In little village called 'Mon Ami' I ask for help of anybody who can use gun, or a stick, depending on how good they use any of it. I like to choose people who have survived the longest out here. That's the surest bet."

>Roland: Why is such desperate need for ammunition? Is there something going on?

'Going on? There's always s o m e t h i n g going on. Nothing special really. Everybody needs guns! Even simple people in Mon Ami. How can you protect yourself from wildlife for example? Here a large Black Betty can get into your house at night at swallow your children whole in a few seconds! It's fine if it comes once a year, then you can take it down with whole village. But what do you do when it comes every month... or week? And it doesn't come alone. So that's why every poor nun would carry a bazooka if she could at these place'

>Roland: I wanted to ask you about the hat

'It's not just a hat sonny, it's a whole costume'

>Roland: Don't mind me saying, but you look awfully out of fashion

"What do you kids understand these days? If you'd knew the real worth of this piece, you wouldn't be offending me right now"

"I bought this wear at Phoenix 27 years ago from a traveling merchant, more bigger and stocked up than me, bigger than I will ever be. It protect from chemicals and radiation - great attributes to use when you constantly scavenge things. Plus, it's white, and provides great protection from the scorching sun"

'...Better the your hat, mind you'

>Roland: You gotta look good all the time, Sylvester. You look like a spook

While traveling and chatting with Sylvester you finally turn back to the base. Your partner knows the place and tells you that it's name is Purple Armadillo.
>>
>>1524803
From Stories of your elders at California you remember that there are several Armadillo bases on the west coast, and they all differentiated by color.

What are your actions?
>>
>>1524809
Let Sylvester take the lead, he knows this place better than us. Ask him if he knows what the base was used for.
>>
>>1524827
Seconded
>>
>>1524495

Roland stops before the fence and sizes the place with his eyes

>Roland: Do you know what this base was used for before?

'Can't you tell from this giant satellite dish before your eyes, boy?'

Sylvester exhales

'Communications of very big importance. Maybe messages about bombing the Reds went through this base as well. No rockets were staged here though, that I'm sure of'

>Roland: I do see that that is a satellite dish, gramps. I just wondered if you know what e x a c t l y it's purpose was

'Well I already told you'

>Roland: Well anyway... after you Mister, lead the way.

'That's not what we're going to do'

You point your close attention at him

'I haven't been here for a long time. Things might have changed, anything can be lurking around this base at this point'

>Roland: But you said that it's little chance somebody is actually here

'Yes, but that doesn't mean they don't. I propose you to find the safest entrance to the base, sneak around it and sniff out if anyone is there, and if you don't find them come back to me. If you DO find someone, you will know what to do. Look out for traps there sonny.'

>Roland: What will you do then?

'I'll wait here until you return. Don't worry, I can handle myself in open space.'

What do you say to Sylvester? What are your actions?
>>
I'll continue quest tomorrow guys. Hope it is interesting for you. Meet you in 10 hours or so.

>>
