You're not tired, but maybe you can ignore them this time. All you'll have to go by is sound. Who knows what they'll be up to when you open your eyes again?

You try, but you don't keep your eyes closed for long. Sometimes you see trains or nice things when you close your eyes, and the goblins come and derail them. The tracks get broken and the trains fall into mud and they're too big to dig out.

You're waking up a bit in your purple blanket and starry pajamas. It's dark, and a soft cottony sound is pushing on your ears.

There are a lot of brave things you could do, but none of them are easier than just lying here. If you sit up, the goblins will be behind you, not just all around where your eyes can look.

Anything is braver than lying here or screaming. But it's so hard.

You do, however, sit up quickly and look around. To your left is a curtained closet where you keep Benny the Horse and your clothes, and by the far left corner of your bed is a heating vent. To your right is your toy shelf, but it's missing most of your toys because you pile them by your bed to to keep the goblins under there stuck. Ahead is the door to the rest of the hallway. It doesn't have a lock.

Goblins don't stay still in front of your eyes. They're not in all the places you looked and thought they'd be. But they're watching.

Sometimes you think you can figure out that goblins are talking to you. But you're not fluent. You're not even sure you've learned anything nice from them.

It's quiet. You are wide awake. A soft silence wraps itself around your ears again. Your surroundings are goblin-free and have not changed. You know they'll be back.

You leave your room with only your blanket and pajamas. The hallway isn't as warm as your room, and you pull your blanket around a little tighter. The bathroom door is lit a bit by a window. You have a whole hallway with doors to go down before you get to the stairs.
