I've seen a few Civ threads around as of late, so I thought I would try one of my own. Granted I won't be using maps, and I'll only be using text to describe surrounding areas and events, save for the occasional character picture, but I have a good feeling about this one. First we'll choose the race, each of which will have a leader that will act as the PC, and then we'll choose the setting. First to three votes wins.
>>
Feel free to give me tips and advice

someone's got to get this started

I vote we pick giants.

Troll swamp
>>
>>1434227
I vote Unseen
on floating Islands
>>
Ooh, plenty of different options
>>
If no one is going to support anything, I could roll for a race, or from one of the chosen options
>>
>>1434678
Rolling from chosen options is preferable. At least for me.
>>
Rolling seems fine as well

I'll give it like five more minutes in case anyone else wants to choose another race

Rolled 4 (1d4)

Alright, rolling for Race:

1 - Construct
2 - Giants
3 - Troll
4 - Unseen
>>
Alright, you shall play as the Unseen. Now everyone choose a setting, and I'll roll for that as well
>>
>>1434807
>Mana wastes

what could possibly go wrong?

Supporting for this one.

Alright, I'll roll for location in about five minutes in case anyone wants to add another one

Rolled 1 (1d4)

Rolling for location:

1 - City Ruins
2 - Swamp
3 - Floating Islands
4 - Mana Wastes

You and your people have taken refuge in the ruins of a once mighty city, spanning a few miles in diameter. At the center of the city is a massive palace, which gives you quite an uneasy feeling when you look up at it... Surrounding the city is a massive desert that lasts for a couple dozen miles before leading off into the unknown. You are a group of the Unseen, a group of mostly diplomatic creatures that horrify other races with their abominable looks. However, the Unseen have a knack for disguising themselves as other races to hide themselves amongst the masses. You lead a group of Unseen that have only been scrounging by on scraps, unable to sustain great numbers. However, you all have managed to survive, due to your great leadership. You are...

>A born leader, and incredible at persuasion and speaking. (Diplomacy Bonus)

>A master of the arcane. Your illusionary magic is amazing, and you understand base knowledge of scrollcraft and other forms of sorcery. (Magic Bonus)

>An amazing scavenger, who knows the ins and outs of the city, as well as how to take what they can get. (Navigation and Scavenging Bonus)

Rolled 23 + 10 (1d25 + 10)

Rolling for number of Unseen Civilians

From the moment you were born in this dead city, you have been learning its secret corners and pathways, and now you have a mental layout of the city ingrained into your mind. Being an Unseen, you often take the form of smaller beings when scurrying about the city, mostly to hide from the bandits and raiders the plague this dead metropolis like rats. You have 1d25+10 survivors with you, each with small amounts of illusionary magic, but your food reserves are low. You have held out in a small wine cellar in the back corner of the city for a few years now. Luckily for you, there was an average sized food reserve when you arrived, and your people have been surviving off of that and scraps from scavenging runs for about four years. Now, however, your food is about to run out, and you need to find more, or your people will die. You have about two days left of food.

As you have a large understanding of the city around you, you know that there are several large food reserves within the city, albeit guarded by one means or another. About a mile away, there is a large castle that has been abandoned many years. Not even the bandits go near it, because no one who goes in ever comes back out. Being a castle, it must have had a large food supply that isn't being used. There are also multiple bandit groups that have gathered up large amounts of food and supplies, and you could gain access to those if you were to integrate your people into their ranks. You could also survive off of basic scavenging runs, but this city has a limited amount of food, much of which is being taken up by bandits.

You sit in what you call your room, which is no more than just a closet with a few blankets thrown in, looking over a crudely drawn map of the city. Your people need to grow and adapt to the surroundings, or they will die. You must rely on your strengths; diplomacy, trickery, cunning, and illusion.

So, great leader, what will you do?

DAY ONE:

>Send out a party of men (list number) out on another scavenging run (Do you lead, or stay?)(If you stay, roll a d20)

>Send a party out (list number) to go investigate the castle (Roll a d20)

>Send out a group of diplomats (list number) to speak with one of the bandit groups (Do you lead, or stay?)(If you stay, roll a d20)

>Oversee breeding to increase your ranks (For convenience, it will take five days for a group of Unseen children to be born)(Roll 1d6)

>Stage an assault on one of the smaller bandit groups (List number)(Do you lead, or stay?)(If you stay, roll a d20)

Send 10 men to assume the forms of bandits, integrate them into a nearby bandit group and then murder them in their sleep.
>>
>>1435145
>>
>>1435145
Do this.
>>
>>1435150
Fuck my rolls wont work. Whats the format on mobile?
>>
>>1435145
I like this idea, but 10 might be too many if we want to look unthreatening, would take about 4 personally.
>>
You take ten of your 33 adult Unseen and have them shift into other various other races in order to blend in with the bandit races. Would you like to lead your group and manually control their actions, or leave it up to lady luck, and roll a d20?
>>
>>1435158
Agreed.

>>1435145
Also make sure that they replace the influential ones.
>>
>>1435164
LEAD. OUR SCAVENGING NINJA SKILLS ARE STRONG.
>>
You decide to lead your sleeper agents into the fray. This will give you manual control over your group, and allow you to make more direct and specific actions. Would you like to give your remaining civilians any orders before you leave? They can build things, begin researching a certain aspect of technology, develop certain skills, etcetera.
>>
>>1435182
>research technology
if we chose this what could we get?
>>
>>1435182
Tell them to scavenge small bits of food, rats, fungi, isolated bandits, etc
>>
Depends on what kind of technology you want to study. For example, right now you can only craft makeshift tools and weapons from spare parts, but if you were to study Toolcraft, you could learn how to produce better tools
>>
>>1435191
in that case i'll go with
>>1435189
>>
>>1435191
Can't they just scavenge for weapons and tools? Just for a starter pack before the real civ stuff starts. How old is this ruined city? What was their technological level before the city collapsed?
>>
>>1435205
There's always lots of rats in city ruins.
>>
>>1435206
Yes, but scavenged tools will only be average at best. This ruined city is a couple centuries old, and the technology seems to be slightly preindustrial.
>>
>>1435210
That's fine. It's better than starting with research and building with no tools or primitive tools like rocks and sticks.
>>
You order the rest of your adult Unseen to go out scavenging for food and other resources. You will know of their yield when you return. Now, however, you take four of your Unseen and shift into more friendly races: You change into a human, two others change into dwarves, and another changes into an elf. Setting out, you bring with you a small hand drawn map that marks known landmarks and bandit territories. You are in the southeast section of the city, and slightly north of your location is a group of bandits known as the Drake Bloods. They are of an average size, owning up to about a hundred members. They don't own too much territory, but their members are fearsome and merciless. There is also another group of raiders more to the east, scraping along the southeastern wall, called the Mongrels. They are a much smaller group, with only about twenty five members, but they are deadly combatants, and their leader is known to be a powerful strategist.

seems sound, but when they're dead then what?
>>
You head over to the Drake Bloods camp, using your illusion magic to place the Drake Blood Symbol on your clothing. As you pass through their territory, a few bandits in armor watch you as you pass by, carrying bows and longswords as they stand on top of the roofs. This is the first time that the bandits haven't just attacked you on sight, so you must be doing something right. Eventually, you come across a walled off camp, with a gateway leading inside. A few guards stand outside, wearing scrapped armor and carrying swords at their belts. As they see you, they look at you suspiciously, as a few archers up on the wall stand up to their posts. One of the guards approaches you and your group, fidgeting with the pommel of his sword. "You got business out here, boy?" he asks, giving you a hard look.

>"Looking to see the boss. Out of my way."

Fair enough, I was just thinking that eldritch horrors from the night might be a good way to scare information out of them

(We can always eat them after we interrogate them)
>>
"Looking to see the boss. Out of my way." The man shrugs and unlocks the gate for you. You walk underneath the wall, on top of which the archers look down on you. you walk into a smoky, walled off part of the street that has been converted into a camp for the Drake Bloods. Most of the men don't pay you any mind, playing cards around smoky campfires and eating rations of dried meat. All of them carry weapons of some sort, whether they be something like a piece of scrap metal found on the ground or a military issue longsword. There appear to be more tents the further in you go, and one ruined building seems to be lit up with fires and guarded from the outside.

This.

>>1435308
PC will look for information about "The Boss" while your men do their thing.
>>
"Okay, spread out, find out any information that you can. Food stores, resources, landmarks, anything. We meet back up here in two hours."
"What are you going to do, sir?" One of the men asks. "I'm going to find out anything I can about this 'Boss'. If I can take his position, we could have a small militia on our hands." Your group nods, the five of you split up. You go out and begin sidling in on conversations, overhearing things about The Boss.
"...heard he executed a few of them last week..."
"...raid went just as planned. That's The Boss for ya..."
"...guy freaks me out. I'm glad I'm on his side." From what you've gathered, the boss is an efficient man who rations out food and supplies in such a way so that everyone gets exactly what they need, and nothing more. He's brutally efficient, and has led multiple rampages against other bandit groups, and as such has gained a large reserve of supplies. Tonight, he goes out on a small scavenging run with a small team in the dead of the night. After about two hours, it is almost noon, and you're group meets up once more. "What have we got?" you ask. One of the dwarves steps up, "They've got enough food and supplies to last us about a month, maybe a little more. The boss keeps it directly below his chambers, so that you have to go through him to get it."
"I took count, and there are 86 men at this camp. They're all armed, everyone has some form of equipment. half of them are outside camp at all times, either on patrol or out on raids."
"I found out that the surrounding buildings are used as prison cells. There are multiple hostages from other camps inside, but they're not very well guarded. Seems like a prison riot might be rather easy..."
"Seems to me that everyone is pretty loyal to this Boss guy. He leads with enough efficiency to gain their respect. If we were to take his position, we could hold a serious place of respect. This would be a good starting place to form an alliance. Perhaps we could slowly introduce our people in as time goes on, so that they might grow tolerant of our grotesque appearance."

Ambush the boss on his supply run, kill him and assume his identity.
>>
>>1435390
Use a prison break as a distraction to nab food.
>>
Do you think that nabbing food is a good idea? After all, that will give you a powerful enemy.
>>
>>1435429
not if they don't know it was us.
>>
>>1435383
Ambush the boss in his sleep and replace him yourself. The other men would replace his lieutenants.
>>
Which one will it be?
>>
>>1435453
>MURDER
>>
>>1435453
Sure, murder.
>>
Anyone wanna change their mind and support something else?
>>
I'm gonna need something a little more specific than "MURDER". Also, I wouldn't recommend physical combat. You would be at an INCREDIBLE disadvantage
>>
>>1435476
How about a magically crafted trap? I don't know if that is outside of our capabilities, but I'm sure we could find a way to intercept his route and lay it before he comes (we are a pretty good scavenger)
>>
>>1435476
Ambush them on their supply run, any that venture from the group, blind them with illusion magic and slit their throats and take their forms.

When his escort has been eliminated, kill him and we take his form.
>>
>>1435492
>>1435488
Feel up to combining these two plans?
>>
>>1435504
Hell fucking yas
>>
>>1435504
Sure.
>>
>>1435504
yes, something like a magical fog cloud, let them run around blindly, then divide and conquer.
>>
You tell your plan to your group. "We find this guy and his group while they're out on their supply run, and we take them out. I'll have you all work together to make a projection that will distract them one by one, until we can isolate and slay them. When we get their, I'm assigning each of you a target, who you'll take the form of after killing. When we get back, we'll take the places of these men, and we'll figure it out from there. Understand?" Your group nods. You pull out your map and study routes and pathways to take for a little while, and soon enough, the sun begins to set. You see a few men gathered around one campfire, gearing up to leave. A man exits from the main building, meeting up with the group. He's an elf with dark blonde hair and a small goatee, wearing padded leather armor and carrying a longbow at his side. He approaches the group, and they talk for a bit before leaving through the Northern gate. This is your chance.

You stalk the group from the rooftops as they scavenge for food and supplies, searching every nook and cranny for anything useful. So far, they aren't turning out well, because everything close to their camp has already been taken. You turn to your group. "I've come up with a few options here."

>Project a terrifying monster to scare the group, attempting to separate them as they run.

>Project a few beautiful women to lure the men away from one another.

>Project a few enemy raiders that will force the men to take cover.

>Write in
>>
>>1435548
>Enemy raiders, These guys are pros, they wont fall for the Beautiful women and the monster might make them team up
>>
>>1435548
>enemy raiders these guys are at least organized and this give us a good gauge of their actual ability in combat while also letting us force them to make decisions on our terms, we should also make some of our projections "die" for realism and give them false confidence
>>
You decide to make a group of raiders to attack the bandits. You and your group create one bandit each, who start shouting at the bandits and drawing longbows. The men all duck and take cover wherever they were nearby. Your illusions begin firing illusionary arrows at the men, forcing them to duck in cover. Soon afterwards, the bandits begin fighting back, shooting up arrows at the illusions. Occasionally, they would hit one, who would then fall over and "die" before being replaced by another one.

You and your group on the other hand have circled around and found one of the men hiding out behind an old cart. Three of your men gang up on him and tear his throat out with their claws. One of them takes his place, taking up his longbow while the rest of you drag the body away. You repeat this process, circling around and taking out the bandits, until only the boss remains. He begins to notice something strange, and then steps out into the open. He rolls his eyes as an illusionary arrow passes right through him. "Come on out, it isn't real." Your sleeper agents walk out into the open and bundle up near him. "Someone is playing tricks on us," The Boss says, more annoyed than anything else, "but if they're hiding behind illusions, then they can't be that strong."

>Have your men finish him off.

>Have your men wait.

You decide that it would probably be best not to reveal yourself just yet. Your group walks along side the boss for quite a little while, scavenging through the night. As the group gets further away from the camp, they start finding more food and supplies hidden around. For some reason, however, you haven't come across any monsters or other bandits at all. The streets you walk on seem eerily quiet. "Bane," the Boss says. When he gets no reply, he turns to one of your group members. "Bane!"

"Oh, uh, yes sir?"

"Since when the hell have you called me 'sir'?"

"I was saying it ironically."

"Whatever. What's your take? Is that pheromone of yours holding up?"

"Phermone?"

"Dim-witted idiot, the gas you make to keep the monsters away."

"Uhh..."

"Don't tell me you don't have it."

"I, uhh... I think I ran out..."

"Shit!" You hear a loud roar in the distance, as well as heavy, slow footsteps. The earth seems to quake slightly with each step. The Boss grimaces and hides, and the rest of the group hides as well. You see a large creature turn around the corner. From what you can see from the rooftops, it appears to be a humanoid monster with heavy armor plating, and carrying a large axe in one hand. It has a tail and horns, and it appears to have hooves instead of feet. You take cover as the thing passes by, and the monster seems to sniff and snort, as if smelling something. It then shakes its head dismissively and walks off, turning a corner and leaving. The group down below sighs with relief. As they stand up, The Boss punches the guy named Bane, or at least that's who he thinks he is. Bane falls to the ground, and he loses concentration, his illusion spell breaking and revealing his true form. The Boss grunts in disgust. "Ah, what the hell?! Beat this ugly motherfucker to death!" He command is met by multiple sword blades sticking through his abdomen, as the rest of your sleeper agents turn on him. The Boss falls to the ground and coughs up blood before dying. Now's your chance.

>Take the Boss's form and head back.

just caught up, great thread so far!

I vote we take his form and head back.
>>
We take his form, but first we need to question him. Gut wounds are slow and painful for the most part, we need information. Are these all of his lieutenants? What is this pheremone? Does he have a lover that's gonna make moves on us and identify an issue if we dont act a certain way? We're working in the dark here, think we moved a little too early.
>>
>>1436219
>>Wait, and let your group tell the Drake Bloods that the Boss died
>>
You approach The Boss. He croaks out a bit of blood, the swords still ran through his stomach. For the sake of respect, you show him your true form, then lift up his chin and look him in the eyes. "Before you die," you say, as his face contorts painfully, "you are going to tell me everything you can. Are these your lieutenants? What is this pheromone you spoke of? Do you have a special someone that might find out who we are? How about relationships with other bandit clans?" The Boss spits blood into your face, grunting with agony. "Why in jack hell do you think I would tell you anything?" You slap him across the face for his lack of cooperation, proceeding to use your illusion magic to take his form. "Because if you don't then I will make sure your clan burns and dies, and everyone you love suffers. I have my own people to take care of, and I'm not letting a lack of information stop me from keeping them alive. So tell me, or I take away everything you stood for."
"Fine! Urk... These aren't my lieutenants, they're my fucking backstabbing friends, literally. Bane makes a pheromone that keeps monsters away by making them afraid of the scent, or something like that. Lovers are bad for efficiency, so I don't have one. And we don't have any alliances, we stick to ourselves... Ack!" He coughs up another gout of blood. "My... The food stores... No one can get into it unless you have a password that must be verbally stated... The password is... Orion." You see the color draining from his face. If you want to ask anything else, now would be the time.
