The year is 769.
Charles and Carloman Karling control a divided Francia, controversy rages in the Byzantine Empire over religious images, and the emperor / enumical patriarch are iconoclast yet may convert to Orthodox Christianity.
The Abassid Caliphate is at the zenith of its power...

But where are you?
Who are you?

Amongst this world of turmoil, will a hero arise, or topple empires? Perhaps you will live your life happily with a family in your fields.

Now is your chance to go forth and plant the banner of your name, and make your mark on history!

Socio-economic level: (d100)

1-15: Street beggar
16-30: Low end peasantry
31-62: Middle class peasantry
63-75: Recognized Knight / Graduated University student (royal lineage)
76-90: Nobility; Baron, Duke, etc.
91-100: One of the great lords (Charlemagne, Al-Mansur, etc.)

Roll actions on 1d1000

1-200: Terrible outcome
201-400: Bad outcome
401-500: Undesirable outcome
501-649: Neutral outcome
650-800:Good outcome
801-1000: Fantastic outcome.

This is my first game, so please, give recommendations and criticisms as you feel necessary. Let's hope this goes well!

Turn 1:

Ah, what a time to be alive!

>>142282
A Duke has been named; a Leroy Jenkins! I-I can't quite seem to remember where his lands are though... Word is, he attempted to hire some men, but only ended up wasting some gold with noone to show. ( Undesirable outcome, soldiers paid but didnt show. 500 gold deducted from your 8000 gold treasury.)

>>142372
I passed a bum in the street, he didn't seem too happy... Kept yelling about a "Reroll", shame.

>>142449
The locals have been thriving lately sir. In fact, word is that one peasant came across extra seeds, and should be expecting near three times his normal crop! (Fantastic outcome, extra seeds found :D )

>>142458
Massive news in the world... Charlemagne's brother, Carloman, has passed on due to an unfortunate hunting incident! Not only this, but all of his assets, and land have gone over to the new monarch. (Fantastic outcome, all assets and land. + tons of new concubines)

>>142465
I passed another peasant today too, a trapper by the looks of it. Some fine pelts for the common folk. Mayhaps he cant spread his business and grow? ( Neutral outcome, opportunity to expand.

Sire! Apparently that pelt trader really was good! Word is, he's been selling to nobility and other royals! (Fantastic outcome, +2000 gold in treasury.)

>>142539

The harvest did go well for the bountiful peasant, and his luck only continues! (Fantastic outcome, triple crop. +750 to treasury (sucks to be a peasant))

>>142556
Dark days ahead for Duke Leroy. After his failed attempt at hiring men, he decided to turn to using the land and... failed even worse. Not only did the miners take his pay, but realizing they outnumbered him, have decided to keep the goods! (-2000 more gold, jeez im so sorry. Must deal with revolting workers)

>>142563
Grave news for Charlamagne... His campaign in Saxony has been brought to a halt, with a well planned counter offensive. Rumor has it that one of his armies was decimated. (Damaged morale, -1500 gold (you have 20,000) solve this issue or withdraw?)

>>142747
Hell yeah! It's the softest and the strongest mink on the market. Nobles be lining up for literal meters to get some.
>>
>>142747
1-200 is going to normally be a very bad outcome... but good news! an almost perfect roll means more moolah.
The local nobility have seen your struggle and decided to help you out, in order for them to keep buying your wares. (+1000 gold)
>>
Rolled 256 (1d1000)

Excellent a most favourable outcome. The bakery is fixed and so is the mill, production has pixed up and everyone is lovin the bread

It seems as though people have started moving in, setting up more shops and farms in the area, its quite the lovely community we got, and Dan is quite a respected member of it

Continue expansion of business ventures, lets try getting into the brewing business, there's money to be made in beer

He tells me he's also seen visions of Mary pointing to the north, and a man standing by her that bears an uncanny resemblance to myself. my men have a hard time installing the shadow government, maybe arming every man and woman and child within the walls wasnt the greatest idea, but news has spread that the lord will be back in the next two rolls so I need to work quick.

posting from a different computer, adding a trip so the boys know what it do.

The talks go....... poorly. The leaders who attempted talks only spoke of their disdain for the recent events that had transpired and were angry with me for not warning of their plans as they have lost tremendous amounts of money and men to the violence in the streets. There is some hope though that I can personally convince them to side with me and keep the business in Byzanti instead of being enemies.

The research for weapons goes poorly. The boys are still mourning their fellows lost in the flames and aren't putting their hearts into it. I have my men take one of the more studious lads, a man by the name of Drew, and have him beaten for the rest of the nerds to see.

Ninety climbing Arabs are blasted off with the ballista bolts, pinning them to the bottom of the slope, covered in waterproof fires. This in turn sets a few other attackers on fire.

The Trebuchets wreak havoc, delivering explosions, ceramic shrapnel and hours of Greek fire to the Abassid Army encamped at the bottom. This kills 490 men due to their close proximity and the cluster trying to rush up the wall.

The ballistae spread fires among the enemy, who are wearing very flammable linen clothing. This has killed forty men and cleared the ramp.

The Legionnaires have formed a solid wall that will repel any enemies, with their spears ready to penetrate any who come too close.

The Arabs are coming back up the ramp, this time with leather shields to protect themselves from fire. It will not help much, but they don't have the tech for good shields like we do.

After this attack, it is nighttime.

Thanks to our enhanced bullet research, we penetrated through their shields, their bodies and those behind them. Our volley of rifle fire kills the 80 men rushing up the ramp.

Shortly after, another charge is repelled by flamethrowers that light EVERY infidel on the ramp and below on fire. This kills the 60 men on the ramp and about another 80 on the bottom. Greek fire is more like napalm, and it was able to hit faraway targets.

Once again, our Trebuchets rain fiery explosive death upon them. 600 men are crushed beneath dozens of ceramic balls filled with Greek fire. Some explode on impact and kill soldiers with shrapnel and flesh-melting fire, others roll and crush people before exploding.

>The Arabs pull back for now, the mangled army camping two kilometres away. The Sun is setting and there are charred corpses all around the South Wall.

I hold an emergency meeting with White Rabbit for our course of action, as Caddius has not been found for a long time. The men around Constantinople light torches so none may enter.

The men are crushed underneath large trebuchet projectiles, and the few who survive are immediately burned to death as they near the flamethrowers. This marks the death of the first army, leaving eight thousand more to go.

The trenches are eight feet deep and the bottom is lined with sharpened wooden stakes slathered in fecal matter and poisons.

The landmines blew up sixteen of my own men, leaving small craters behind.

I see siege machines rolling towards the city, battering rams coming for the South Wall's gate. They will arrive slowly, and I'm sure that if given enough time, they can break through the reinforced porticullis and solid doors. If they breach that, they will enter the outer walls which will have already been evacuated. Then they must siege the inner walls.

Aye. I've got sixteen ballistae left. Four to a wall, but that's way too fuckin' little. Damage output is pretty low now, so I have to rely on riflemen, Trebuchets and flamethrowers. And maybe bombs.

The Legionnaires throw their secondary javelins, impaling 40 men and making the ramp inaccessible unless they remove the corpses.

The infidels hear the twang of the Trebuchets and immediately begin to flee, but not fast enough. 450 men are crushed beneath the exploding balls of ceramic, and some may be injured from shrapnel.

90 men are ignited by the flamethrowers, leaving burning bodies that block entry to the ramp.
