Welcome to Skyrise, a quest about airships, flying cities, and life above a giant cloud of toxic gas! I am Manticore, and I will be your QM. Anyone wishing to make the main character for this quest can fill out the form below to submit their character. Before you make a character or playing the quest, be sure to familiarize yourself with the lore and race/class guide provided below. I will pick a random character from the submissions tomorrow morning (April 29th, EST) and the quest will start.
About Manticore: I am an experienced Dungeons and Dragons game master that has worked with 3.5e, 4e, and 5e as well as many home brewed games. However, this is my first Quest thread and I am new to the 4chan community. If anyone has any advice for me concerning the thread, feel free to post out of character on this thread.

Appearance: Give a general idea of what your character looks like, you need not be overly specific. A good description would include character height, build, hair/eye color, and clothing (No hooded figures please).

Greygear Empire aligned classes:
Monster Hunter- A warrior trained in the ancient arts of combat against non-human foes. The monster hunter is versatile and can use most melee weapons (very large weapons such as great hammers are excluded), pistols, and some weaker level magic. Basically imagine if there was a Witcher in world war 2.

Magician- A disciple trained in the art of magic. Magicians have the potential to learn all forms of magic, ranging from destructive attack spells to defensive healing spells and various illusions and everyday use spells. However, magicians are not trained in close combat and rarely know how to use weapons other than clonking the enemy with a staff or firing a pistol.
Scavenger- A sturdy, hardened rogue with much experience around machinery. Scavengers are very knowledgeable about machines made in the Graygear empire and tend to also be experienced mechanics. Scavengers can use almost any gun including pistols, sub-machine guns, carbines, and shotguns. Really the only guns they can't use are rockets and grenade launchers. In a pinch, scavengers also tend to carry a survival knife for close quarters combat.

Crestpoint Aligned Classes:
(Quick lore related vocab lesson before we start. Pseudomagic- A technique of creating effects similar to magic using advanced technology)
Synthetically Augmented Organism (SAO)- An experimental weapon made in the labs of VerTech or GiroCorp. Only Androids can be the SAO class. SAO are androids made for both front line combat and covert operations. SAO can use all guns including rockets and grenade launchers and have internal systems allowing limited use of defensive pseudomagic. In close combat they can also use their android bodies for hard hitting martial arts.

Juggernaut: A hulking mass of metal and anger. Juggernauts are a fairly simple class. They where heavy power armor and use any melee weapon to smash their enemies in direct combat. However, the armor makes it near impossible to accurately aim guns and they have no access to magic or pseudomagic.

Technician- A pseudomagic specialist. Androids can not be technicains due to self-risk. Technicians can use a variety of pseudomagics similar to a magician, but technicians tend to favor offensive pseudomagics for disrupting and damaging androids, robots, and machines. Technicians can also use most one handed weapons including pistols, some smgs, knives, and short swords.

Given that you certainly have more knowledge of this setting than we do, have you considered creating several choices of main character yourself for us to vote on?

I figure this lets you as a QM write from a point-of-view that you are more comfortable with, and also conceptualize the character and the narrative simultaneously and as a pair (rather than being forced to fit the world and story around an unfamiliar premade character).

For players, this would also mean that we get to be introduced slowly to the world through the means of the narrative rather than having a massive wall of text dumped on us.

Thanks for the advice. I'm new to this and will constantly try to improve my performance as a QM. Tomorrow morning I will post a few pre-made characters for you to vote on. I will make one character of each class unless you can reach a general opinion on any classes you don't want to try.

This is Manticore posting one last update before I turn in for the night. I will most likely drop the Rudra, Ghoul, and Elementia Races from the game and only keep the Humans and Androids to make the lore more basic and greatly lessen any needed background. You can ignore any prior reference I made to those races.

Skyrises are giant flying cities that allow people to live above the giant cloud of toxic gas that covered the world.
The Greygear Empire is a monarchy that favors old fashioned values and tries to perfect steam and oil driven Machinery.
The Crestpoint Federation is a Plutocracy (rule by the wealthy) controlled by a group of corporations. They prefer to develop more futuristic technologies and more powerful energy sources.

Okay then, let's get started!
You're not normally one to enter a lottery, but you had a good feeling about this one. The "Lucky Leave Lottery" was a yearly contest with the winner earning their very own airship. While you have left Kali, your home skyrise, many times over the years on other people's ships for scavenging runs, you have never owned your own airship. The afternoon of the contest you are sitting in your home by the radio, intently staring at the numbers at your ticket as the announcer speaks a perfect match: "8207636171." You've won the lottery! You eagerly jump out of your chair and hastily grab all your gear and head to the shipyard where you can cash in your ticket. As you arrive at the shipyard at the edge of the skyrise, you can see over the edge. A couple thousand feet below you can see the toxic cloud of gas that has enveloped the world. You've been down there multiple times and know that without a gas mask, entering that cloud will kill you in minutes. As you approach the shipyard you see a tall, burly man standing in front of the door. He looks at you and says "Welcome to Cap's Shipyard. You got business here?"

There's a barred window allowing you to see into the room. The room has a man in a suit next to multiple safes. Above the window is a sign that reads "Weapons Drop Off."

You give the man your weapons and he puts them in the weapons drop off. The man in the suit on the other side collects the weapons and locks them in a safe. The bouncer says "You're good to go. Head on in."
You go through the door and find yourself inside a huge building that is sort of hybrid between a dock and a hangar. Multiple Airships of all types sizes line the walls of the shipyard. Some seem rather plane, others have company paints and decorations all over them. You can see a kiosk labeled "Appointments" with a woman standing inside it. You also see four other people walking around the Hanger. The four people include a woman in her mid 30s wearing illusion-school mage robes, a man in his 20s wearing metal armor, a woman in her 20s wearing a trench coat and top hat, and a man in he 50s wearing destruction-school mage robes. The four of them seem to each be separately moving around the shipyard and inspecting the ships.

You head over to the kiosk and give the woman your ticket. She looks at the ticket and checks a clip board on her desk before nodding and saying "It's genuine. Congratulations." She turn on an intercom and says into it "Mr. Halmond, the lottery winner is here to see you."
After a minute a man comes down a stair case and walks over to you. He bares a striking resemblance to the monopoly man, complete with tux, top hat, monocle, and beer belly. He says "Congratulations good sir! It takes a lucky man to win your very own airship and only price you pay is for the ticket! I'm assuming you want to receive your ship immediately?"

You and the man head over to a corner of the hanger. There you see 3 ships all in a line of various sizes. Each one of them has a sign labeled "Reserved for lottery" The man says "Now, we have 3 available ships for your choosing. The Interceptor class ship is small and has little firepower, but it is definitely our fastest model. It comes equipped with a canon on each side and a grappling hook launcher on the front. Second is the Breaker class ship, this ship is medium sized and made for direct combat. It's even all around and is suitable for most situations. It comes standard with 2 canons on both sides and I more powerful Hi-Velocity cannon on the front. Last up is the Dreadnought class ship. This is one of our biggest models but definitely also one of the slowest. It has thick metal armor that is very hard to penetrate and a lot of cargo space for you to store supplies or re purpose into other rooms. It comes equipped with 2 cannons on each side but no frontal weapon. The ship's performance isn't set in stone. You can find some skyrises that have mechanics suited for modifying your ship or adding weapons. You'll also have to pick a name for your ship!"

Throughout your life you were used to having someone else pilot the ship while you rode along. Carlos walks onto the deck of the ship with you. "So, what's our first stop?"
