You're Jake, and you're at Misarcana Academy, aiming to pass this admittance exam and become a Mage.
Mana is a limited resource, and Mages - People who can redirect the flow of mana - constantly fight the Void - beings who permanently destroy mana.
You believe in a new, yet undiscovered kind of magic process, which is neither the redirection of mana, nor the conversion of mana into nothing. A process which can turn nothing into mana - Flamel's Process. Something that will end the conflict forever.
You're pretty much the only guy who believes that it can be done..
To make matters worse, on a scale of A to D, your magic abilities score as an F, despite your massive - yet unconventional understanding of magic. While you were great at channeling mana - you kept on doing magic "incorrectly". But you're convinced that you will use your maverick ideas and effort to eventually become the Archmage - head coordinator of all mana in the world, and employ that position to bring a definitive end to the eternal conflict with the Void.
Luckily, Misarcana Academy's entrance exam isn't normal, and your streak of Fs don't matter. Following it's brutal spartan-like tradition, it's done by tournament, to find the most fitting to become Mages and fight the Void.
