The town of Bethlen, New England, is a dead zone. The horde swept through here, obliterating the once vibrant survivor community, and then settled in a loose circle outside the town. Now, what tiny few survivors remain fight for their lives in the remains of the town.

Now THAT is an interesting hook. You'd be able to stay relatively unnoticed by zombies, perhaps even push them around a bit to do your bidding, but at the steep cost of being instinctively shunned by literally every human still drawing breath.

Agreed, it would be really nice to have to balance between zombie slaves and distrusting humans.
He was bitten a little over a year ago, when the outbreak first began. moving from his original town in Kentucky, he worked his way to Bethlen to start anew and without suspicion. Helping to establish the survivor enclave, the man decided to take on the moniker of his favorite drink: Jim Beam. With the community on the verge of disbanding, he's thinking of scavenging what supplies and people he can to adventure the American Wastes just a little bit longer on his trusty chopper.
