'3' Lights up the old elevator shutters into motion. Jaince lets out a sigh of relief as
the elevator shudders and shakes, under your feet, going down. She stops breathing
when the gate opens revealing the number '5' in faded paint.

Janice starts, sobbing. She leans against the wall and slides down slowly, unable to
speak through her tears. You can almost feel the panic and fear rolling off of her. She
starts to hyperventilate. She looks around desperately and asks, “Are we in hell?”

"If we're in hell, I better see a naked scorpion lady on the next floor or else I'm going to start breaking shit. You guys might want to get out, because I'm taking the train to crazy town and going all the way up. Something wants us to go up, and I'm not going to waste brain cells thinking about it. Science is made from doing and learning."

Rachel quickly spins on Thomas
"Don't be a dumbass. Whatever's going on here, we can't just run straight into whatever's causing this! We're going to get out, we're going to try going down, and if we can't, then we're going to search the floor."

"I know you've seen at least one horror flick in your time on earth. The protagonist always winds up nearly insane by the end of it. Now, I dunno about you, but I'd rather not have my mind chipped away, piece by piece by some Lovecraftian love child."

Thomas stops and looks melancholic for a brief moment.

"Heh, never thought I'd get to say this. See you, Space Cowboy."

He shoves both Janice and Rachel out of the elevator after pressing the button. Saluting Rachel as the doors close.

Thomas slides out of view leaving Rachel and Janice alone.

As you the three of you are catching your figurative breath, you remember:
this all started after you heard those gunshots coming from upstairs. If it was
from the penthouse you'd need the elevator key. The maintenance guys
keep one in their office on this floor. Apartment 5A.

The elevator door slides open. It’s quiet here—unnaturally so. Everything
seems muffled, even your own footsteps sound somehow far away. The
walls and carpeting are untouched. Whatever happened seems to have left
this place alone. And yet, you still feel like you’re being watched.

Thomas steps out. The eerie feeling of being watched and the alien atmosphere adding to his unease. With tentative steps, he leaves the elevator.
