>You were just a lonely college student.
>And now you're here, on the beach where you're taking part in a voluntary government experiment.
>50 Million dollars to survive on this beach home where a different monster attacks you every time night falls.
>You don't want to acknowledge the reality of death, but instead embrace the possibility of success.
>50 Million and the experience of a lifetime, plus friends.
>You sit on the porch of this beach home.
>Sun slowly rising over the horizon.
>Salty sea air, cool breeze.
>Soft sound of the waves upon the beach.
>It feels like a dream.
>Your partners, they should be arriving soon.
>Funny thing is, you know these guys.
>Donovan and Maven.
>Well, you know Donovan at least, Maven on the other hand..
--

>As the Sun rises you see two people walking side by side along the beach toward you.
>Donovan is wearing a military jacket and carrying a tactical military backpack.
>Maven is carrying a plain black backpack.
>You stand up as they see you.
>Maven seems a little nervous, but seems to compose herself quickly.
>"Yo! Anon it's been forever."
>She sets her bag down on the sand and reaches out her hand.
>You know her from somewhere.
>Probably..
"Uh.."
>"It's me, Maven! Remember, from college?"
"Y-yeah.."
>She sighs.
>"It's no big deal. I think, maybe I remember you a little more than you remember me. I was always more of the type to kind of fade into the background."
>She forces an awkward chuckle.
>You clear your throat.
>Donovan is looking around with a rather tensed expression.
"Hey, you ok?"
>He's quiet for a moment, Maven turns her attention to him as well.
>"I'm fine Anon. We have a week before the battle starts."
"Oh yeah, guess we do have a little bit of downtime huh?"
>The waves are crashing in the background.
>Gulls are cawing.
>Maven speaks.
>"The scenery is so pretty here, it feels more like we're on a tropical vacation than a bloodthirsty battle to survive huh?"
>Donovan appears to be deep in thought.
"Got something on your mind Don?"
>"It's this beach, we should take time to explore our surroundings I think."
>Maven smiles,
>"I agree."
>Donovan shoots her an unnecessarily dirty look.
>Maven frowns slightly.
You clear your throat again.
>"Yeah, uh.. Let's do it I guess."

>You're out traveling in the woods.
>"This isn't good, there are a lot of places for monsters to hide here."
>"Yeah, it could get pretty scary after dark."
>You think for a moment.
"Any ideas on how to improve our situation?"
>"Several. First, our issue is the night. We have firepower, but we have no visibility. And we have no idea WHAT we're fighting."
"Uh, well actually-"
>"I can smell them out. Been able to do it since I was a kid."
>Donovan raises an eyebrow.
>"Oh really, so then any of these unknown, cryptid type monsters you somehow have a nose for?"
>"It's hard to explain, but I just know. It's not really limited to just monsters either, I can smell if there are bears or wolves nearby."
"Ah, so it's really any animal then."
>Donovan sighs,
>You're walking over trees and branches surveying the forest landscape.
>"At least that makes it a little more believable."
"I guess."
>"Er, anyways, the lighting. I was thinking if we had someway to light the area up, we wouldn't get caught off guard in the dark."
"Yeah, you're probably right."
>"But how are we gonna do that?"
>"Well, if we can light up torches all along the beach and around the forest we might have a better shot of seeing what we're up against."
>"Nice, so like Tiki torches for a barbecue party."
>"This isn't a vacation."
>"I know."
>"Maybe you should TREAT it like it's serious then huh?"
>Maven growls back,
>"I am taking it serious!"
>Donovan mockingly says,
>"Oh look at me, we're on a beach, it must be a vacation! Let's set up tiki torches and throw a big party!"
>"Geez, forgive me for having a bit of levity grumpy-pants."
"Don, come on, chill out man."
>"Sorry."
"Just take it easy."
>You place your hand on his shoulder.
>Donovan sighs.
>"There certainly are a lot of different tropical birds here."
"Birds?"
>"Yeah, I wonder if any of them are actually indigenous to this region. Like that Moluccan Cockatoo, or that Cockatiel. It seems to suggest these birds were placed here by an outside force."
>"Why would anyone go through the trouble?"
>Donovan scratches his chin.
>"The government pays us 50 million dollars. Seems to suggest they're gathering data. They must have some way of monitoring us."
--
What will you do?
-It's early afternoon.
-It's important to use this time wisely.
-You might want to plan out battle strategies and build a rapport with your partner in order to increase your odds of success.
-Other things to do might be to gather food or scout out the land.

2/2
>>
>>1270177
Probably gonna scout some more and get lights up, if those are combinable options.
>>
Procure a fresh water source, and a possible food source.

Possibly cover the house with mud so it masks any scents, and make it less distinguishable.

Light small bonfires around various areas so as not to bring suspicion to any specific one.
>>
>>1270177
>gather food
Uh? But I thought from OP pic that food was provided regularly every month.

Incidentally, don't know anything about her character (could be the sweetest woman or a crazed mysantropist) but based only on appearence, I'd be way more attracted to Chu than Maven.
>>
>>1270496
Good point.

In that case, scout out the island and familiarize yourself with your surroundings.
>>
>>1270629
Hold on, don't jump the gun, I was quoting and asking OP because he's the one that gave us the pre-made prompt to gather food. Maybe that part of the picture is non-canon to the quest (seen this happen before with a CYOA turned quest), or maybe it was just an oversight. Let's wait for a clarification.

(Gathering food was an option in case you decided to choose not to spend points on food)

>You pursue the path till you find a fresh stream in the tropical jungle.
>Maven inquires,
>"This water should be safe to drink, right Donovan?"
>"It should, unless the government poisoned it somehow."
>Theres silence for a moment.
"I don't think that's likely, I mean, they want us alive right? Why go through this trouble if they were just gonna kill us through some extraneous means anyhow."
>"Well, I'm thirsty."
>Maven kneels down cupping the water and drinks it.
>"Mmm, fresh!"
>Donovan begins gathering wood.
"Already getting a head-start?"
>"Someone has to be productive here."
"Geez Donnie, don't make me feel like dead weight here."
>He chuckles.
-----
>You gather some wood taking them back to the house, while leaving others scattered in piles.
>It's cloudy as you enter the house.
>Maven speaks,
>"Looks like it's gonna rain."
>The wind sways the leaves of the tropical trees.
"Yeah."
>You set the piles of wood down in the house.
>"Thats why I asked to bring some of this wood inside. If it rains we can't make torches. I didn't think we'd run into this kind of issue, but then again, we may have to deal with it."
>Maven plops down on the couch and starts listening to music.
>She seems content.
>Donovan looks at you.
>"Do you really trust her?"
"W-what?"
>She seems to have headphones in so she probably can't hear you.
"I mean, yeah.. Shes gonna help us when the monsters come around."
>Donovan sighs.
>"You really think big government pays that much for something thats gonna be a piece of cake? I mean, we had to sign waivers and other paperwork. We're basically soldiers out here."
"Yeah well.."
>He walks away up the stairs to his room.
------------

>Over the course of the next three days you scout the island.
>You find various fruit trees, birds, snakes, even a boar or two.
>Maven also said she smelled jungle cats and advised where to go to avoid them.
>There are piles of wood being set up and covered by leaves in case of storms so they'll still be lightable.
>Maven and Donovan don't really talk to each other.
------
>Four more days pass,
>There's a river, a large mountainside
>While exploring said mountainside you trip and fall.
>Donovan and Maven rush to your side.
>"Are you ok?"
"Yeah, just tripped over something."
>You look at it, it's a white muddy female sneaker.
>Maven is confused.
>"Someone leave a shoe out here?"
>Silence lingers.
>"I had my suspicions, trampled leaves, cut trees. Someone has been living out here, or was."
>Maven gasps.
"Do you think it.. Could have been other people on this same survival mission?"
>Silence looms heavy as you all take a serious look at that shoe.
>Donovan inhales deeply.
>"It's possible. We may be looking at all that remains."
>Its easy to imagine her losing a shoe, running from some monstrosity alone in the woods.
>Terrifying to say the least.
>>
>>1271072
You decide to gather the mud and smear it all over the house to mask it's scent.
------

-It's the morning of what will soon be night one of terror.
Any final preparations?

>>1271072
Make sure we know how to aim, load, and unjam weapons.
God knows the first thing I did when I got my first gun was to jam it on the first shot.

>You're firing bullets into trees.
>All three of you are practicing your aim.
>Maven seems uneasy.
>Donovan seems focused.
>Holding this gun in your hand.
>It's starting to become real for you.
>This whole week has all been in preparation for it.
>Aim. Fire. Reload.
>You also learn from Donovan about the types of jams that can happen with the guns and how to fix them.
------
>The sun crawls along the sky.
>Night officially comes when the sun rolls down over the horizon.
>You prepare the wood piles as you and your partners arm yourselves.
----
>You're inside the house.
>A tense feeling stirs as you stare outside the window.
>You can only imagine what kind of horror is out there.
>Or if it's even there yet.
"M-maven, you smell anything yet?"
>She takes in a big whiff.
>"It smells like.. A grasshopper."
>Donovan chuckles.
>"A grasshopper?"
>"A big one."
>You hear the crack of trees.
>You all rush outside.
>You see a massive grasshopper jump above the treeline and then sink back down into it.
>The torches keep things mostly visible within a short distance.
>The grasshopper seems to be in the tropical woods.

How will you proceed?
>>
>>1274125
Light small fires around the house but use a lot of grass to cause smoke in hopes of driving off the insectoid.
>>

>You decide to light fires around the house.
"There, that should keep that big bug bastard away."
>"So, Maven, you have extensive knowledge Cryptids right? What are we up against here? Is it just a big bug or something more sinister?"
>Maven is looking toward the woods.
>"It's just a big bug."
"Well, I guess that's a relief, just gotta be on our toes right? Grasshoppers don't usually even eat meat do they?"
>Maven responds.
>"Grasshoppers normally eat vegetation from multiple sources, tending to favor things like grass. But some are omnivores and eat animal tissue and feces."
"Eww."
>Maven continues,
>"Grasshoppers tend to have excellent camouflage, and eyes which can see things in all directions. Which means we won't be able to sneak up on it, and finding it could prove difficult."
"Great, so what do we do?"
>Donovan speaks.
>"Wandering into the woods where it could hide would be bad. We should wait by the house and be on the lookout.
>"Yeah, one pinch of those giant mandibles would probably kill us."
"Right.."
>>
>>1275739
>It's a long and tedious wait.
>The waves of the ocean softly churning in the background.
>Maven is sitting in a chair on the porch with one earbud in the ear and the other dangling down.
>She's holding a PP 2000, a submachine gun that's pretty light and easy to carry.
>You're carrying an USAS 12, it's pretty heavy.
>Donovan has an AA-12 Fully Automatic Shotgun with a 20 round drum Mag.
"Hey Don, are you sure these will work?"
>"The carapace of a big bug shouldn't be able to withstand this, and if it is, I've got this."
>He points to a rifle on his back.
"And what's that?"
>"It's the Nitro. Or what you might refer to as an 'Elephant Gun'."
"Oh."
>He pulls out some of the massive bullets for the Nitro.
"Woah."
>"Yeah, any monster that messes with us is gonna have a real bad day."
>Suddenly you hear a sharp buzzing.
>Followed by a thud on the roof above you.
>Donovan remarks,
>"Showtime."
>He runs out onto the sand of the beach.
>You and Maven follow staring at the roof.
>"Dang, it must have crawled around!"
>"What do we do Don?"
>"Split up, you and Anon take the left side, I'll take the right side near the ocean. If one of us sees it we'll yell ok?"
"10-4 Don."
>He grins.
>You take his advice and circle the left half of the house.
>Donovan takes the right.
>As you go Maven clings to your back.
"You scared?"
>"Just nervous.."
"We'll be alright, Don said these guns will pierce through no problem."
>You and her carefully tread around the house toward the back.
>But you see nothing.
>"Well, I guess-"
>"ITS HERE!"
>Rounds start going off.
>You rush toward the commotion on the other side of the house.
>Donovan stands in front of the giant grasshopper which lay dead in the sand.
>You rush over to him.
"Are you ok?"
>"Piece of cake. He was crawling around on the side of the house here, nearly caught me by surprise he blended in so well."
>You look over the massive carcass of the grasshopper.
"Well, it looks like we won."
>Maven breathes out a sigh of relief.
>From the corpse, a bright flash of light blinds you.
>It is gone, and in it's place is a diamond shaped crystal.
>You walk over to it and pick it up.
>It feels cold, and shines with a purple-bluish light.
>Donovan inquires,
>"What is that?"
"Beats me."
>Maven yawns.
>"I'm bushed, I stayed up all night, and look, the sun is rising!"
>And indeed the sun rises.
>Donovan speaks,
>"If we sleep now, we'll probably wake up around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Which gives us only 5 hours or so to prepare whatever we need for the next night."
>Maven sighs.
>"I take it back, this isn't like a vacation at all."
-------
-You wake up at 1 in the afternoon.
What is it that you will do?
>>
>>1275741
do we lost anything from this?
Anyway nice one as for us we should probably do damage control and more scavange since the other 2 are quite tired from last nights encounter.
>>
>>1275741
Eat and do inventory for all our equipment and gear.

I want see just what kind of arsenal and tools we have.

I also hope we have some dam axes and saws.
>>
Also were is the cook? Shouldn't she be in the house?

>It doesn't seem like anything was lost.
>You walk into the kitchen where Chu is preparing fish.
>"Ohayo Gozaimasu!"
"Uh, hi."
>"I make good lunch for you yes? You like fish?"
"Sorta. I uh, just thought maybe we could get to know each other, since we haven't really spoken much."
>She laughs.
>"You no need worry about me silly, I'm fine!"
>You shuffle your foot around.
"I mean, are you even aware of what we're doing here?"
>She gives a puzzled expression.
"You know, fighting monsters?"
>"Oh yes yes, fight lots of monsters. You feel ok?"
"I'm fine, but.. Doesn't it bother you?"
>"It not bother me, government pay me big salary for dangerous job."
"B-but.. The monsters-"
>"In our country we call them Yokai. I used to think they only legends before I came here, and now I know for sure they are real."
"Yokai huh?"
>She bops your head with a wood spoon.
>"You stay safe, me not want to die cause you not pay attention out there!"
>Oh crap..
>Does that mean we're the only things keeping her safe?
"I-i'll try."
>"You be fine, you smart."
>She happily hums returning to her cooking.
----------
>Going down into the armory is a huge assortment of weapons.
>Lines and lines of guns mounted on the walls.
>It's like a library but every shelf is full of guns and ammunition instead.
>In one corner are Stielhandgranate and pineapple grenades.
>And near there are rocket launchers.
>The walls down here are made of stone, and this area could be used as a makeshift bunker of sorts if need be.
>You hope the situation never becomes that dire though.
>Still, for all these weapons, one must assume that the enemy is a formidable foe indeed.
>You imagine had you gone for the medieval package of armor and bows and arrows that this mission would have been far harder.
>Trying to kill that giant grasshopper with bows and arrows seems unreasonably dangerous.
>Not to mention without Maven it's nearly impossible to know what you're up against, and without Donovan you have no knowledge of battle tactics or guns by which to launch a successful offensive on the enemy.
>There don't seem to be any tools, axes or saws down here.
----
>When you emerge up you find a note on the wall.
"Went scouting for tools and supplies. Maven found a map in the attic and rushed off without warning. I hope I can catch up to her and keep our monster radar from getting into trouble. -Donovan
>You estimate only about 2 or three hours before nightfall

How do you proceed?
>>
>>1275776
Jesus. Thats fucking bad. Are we running with a stereotipical monster film cast? Thats literally how you get killed.

Grab 2 assault rifles and a pistol and see if you can spot any tracks of where they could have went off.(also ammo ofc) Convince chu to hide in the bunker if anything goes south. Yell for em to get back cause shits gonna go infernal again shortly.
If you cant discerne a decent direction where they went take a vantage point on top of the house and stay on guard. no point in getting a 3rd person lost in the woods nearby.
We will need to have a talk to people on going yolo like that in the future.
>>
>>1275776
Stay put to hold down the fort. Take some weapons and ammo upstairs, Ideally a rifle, and ammo. Get Chu to take a break from cooking and ask her to come down and find a weapon she likes so we can teach her to use it.

Tell her, we understand shes not much of a fighter but we want you to be able to defend yourself just in case one breaks into the house if we are busy fighting, or that you may find yourself in a position were we can not help you and you are isolated from us.

Spend the rest of the day watching the house, and teaching Chu to use a weapon.

Question Crypti, we have melee and sharp or blunt edge weapons down there? Is it possible to get comprehensive list of the types including non-firearms ones?

Maybe if our character knows too little of guns, we can ask Donovan to identify them for us and help us do inventory.
>>
>>1275786
How big is the island? Did we do a proper tour beforehand? I thought we had a week to prepare before they started appearing.
>>
>>1275779
Well, Donovan is probablya better tracker than us, and Maven took the map. Its getting dark soon, so Its probably best we wait for them to return hopefully. Otherwise being lost in the dark, on an island alone with monsters appearing that will probably want to kill you.... Yeah, fuck that.
>>
Stick tight until the morning, light the perimeter bonfires again, and this time not forget the rear. Seems like our safest bet.
>>
>>1275797
we dont have until morning. tonight is cryptid night again. Light bonfires keep guard. pray to bajesus you dont get attacked by some wierd ass flying fucker..
>>1275786
id rather keep chu safe this night. 2 hours is not enough to learn even the basics of how to use a gun especially against monsters with wierd ass powers.
We dont have time to do everything so lets keep the lights around the perimeter first and other makeshift alert devices set. we will worry about chus training later.
>>
>>1275806
Point, aim, click. She just won't be proficient in using any particular weapon, and I was hoping she'd choose a melee weapon and not a gun.

We just spend maybe half an hour teaching her to use one safely as a last resort.

Lighting torches and bonfire would be smart, it could help the others get back easier when they see it.
>>
>>1275808
Or maybe a shotgun.
>>
>>1275810
As far as i know shotguns have insane recoil. You certantly need more than 30 minutes to get used to a shotgun. if we really want to teach her how to use a gun we give her a pistol. Then we can bother about better wep training later. I think setting deffences and keeping shit in check is more important to spend 2 hours on than training someonet o be able to hit a target at 3 meters.
>>
>>1275813
Also i really think we need to keep the last 10 15 minutes before the fun begins on watch since we need to A) be able to spot our friends fast and react quickly in case they bring some "visitors" with them And B) spot any sign of how a cryptid may spawn so we can better plan for it later. Right now we only know they appear out of the dark since the firs encounter we were all in the house.
>>
>>1275813
>insane recoil
Compared to what? We are letting her choose any weapon in the armory, not putting one into her hand, I just want her to have a last resort available to her in case we die or can't defend her if we are preoccupied. I do not want to use her to fight.

We will have to detect the cryptids the old fashion way since we don't have our radar girl.
>>
>>1275817
If time is your concern we have 2 hours, and can give her a quick rundown, light the bonfires and torches and spend the last hour on watch.

(There are no blunt or sharp edged weapons. There are knives in the kitchen which Chu uses for cooking.)

>You go to Chu.
"Can you use a gun?"
>She reaches underneath the sink and pulls out a Katana in it's sheath.
>"My father teach me how to use this."
"O-oh.. Uh, well, just in case, let's go over some basic firearms protocols."
------
>You spend the next two hours teaching her how to use a gun.
>You then instruct her to go to the weapons armory and hide there till further notice.
>The wind seems to have picked up..
>In fact, the sky itself has become extremely dark and cloudy and its..
>Really fucking cold.
>So much for a tropical seaside paradise, this weather seems to become inclement at the drop of a hat.
>After lighting all the torches you retreat to the top of the house just as the last of the daylight fades.
>You see the roof-hatch open up, Chu crawls through it.
"What are you doing? Come on, get inside!"
>"I brought you snack."
>She hands you some kind of weird loaf with cubes carved into it.
"What kind of snack is this?"
>"It melonpan, try it."
You bite into it, it tastes like a sugar cookie.
"Mmm."
>"You like? I made for you all last night, but you all too tired to eat it."
"Uh, thanks. Wait, why do you have your sword, and that gun on you?"
>"I help you. Your friends run off, you not safe without help."
"I can take care of myself thank you very-"
>Suddenly snowflakes in heaps rain down from the sky.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me!"
>"It ok. It's just snow."
>Chu wraps her arms around you.
>"I keep you warm see?"
>Her hug is indeed warm.
"I.. This is serious! We can't be messing around out here, we're gonna get killed by whatever spooky monster-face is out there."
>And speaking of that.. You wonder how Donovan and Maven are doing.
>>
>>1275898
>It's dark inside a mysterious building.
>"Come on Maven, we need to go back!"
>"Look, we're already down here, maybe the monster won't get us if we're down here."
>Donovan cocks his gun and fires it at a wall.
>"You idiot, what are you doing?!"
>"Get moving! Or I swear I'll drag you back there if I have to."
>Maven smiles.
>"You wouldn't shoot me."
>Donovan laughs.
>"Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?"
>Maven sways over walking toward him.
>"I'm too important to the mission. You don't want to disappoint Anon."
>"W-what makes you say-"
>"I can tell. The two of you are close friends."
>Donovan looks down lowering his gun.
>"I.. I wish I had, what you two have."
>Donovan gives her a quizzical look.
>"I've never really had any close friends."
>Donovan scoffs.
>"Bullshit."
>"I wish it were. Since I was a little kid I've always been fascinated with the supernatural. I could smell animals, even when I didn't know what they were, it's like I could see them in my minds eye."
>"How?"
>"Some people are born with gifts."
>"Oh please, someone like you at least had to have SOME friends."
>She looks down.
>"I guess I can't explain it but.. I've always faded into the background. In dodgeball and in groups back in school I was always the last one to get picked. None of the girls noticed me, and even the guys really only asked for hookups. But even then I turned them down because I wasn't interested in sex."
>>
>>1275902
>"You.. Gotta be kidding."
>"I tried making friends. I've given out my number, but it's like people just forget about me when I disappear from view. I came out here because I thought even if I died, it's not like anyone would remember anyhow."
>"Pfft! You've at least had OFFERS for sex. You think I've had it any easier? Constantly being turned down by women just because I'm not 6 feet tall, and I'm not some all star athlete? All I've ever wanted was for someone to love me. I don't care about sex either. My only friend that ever cared about me is Anon. Everyone else is a rotten scumbag unworthy of the air they breathe."
>"You, think I'm rotten too don't you?"
>"Yes!"
>Tears start dripping from Mavens face onto the cold hard concrete.
>Donovan is confused.
>"You.. Really never had friends?"
>"Only during school hours, I have to remind them what my name is, everything."
>"Thats.. Really weird."
>Maven seems really sad.
>Sniffling, tears falling.
>"Er, I mean, that's not good."
>"You're the lucky one. At least you have a friend. I don't even think Anon remembers all the times we hung out in college."
>"I.. I can be your friend!"
>She sniffles.
>"W-what? Really?"
>"I uh-"
>She runs over and tackles Donovan in a hug."
>"Ugh.."
>Donovan feels her warmth, it fills his head with feelings he isn't used to feelings.
>Donovan can barely see straight, mind racing.
>He looks into her eyes.
>Maven looks into his.
>"Maven I.."
>Maven wraps her arms around Donovan and kisses him.
>Donovan is confused at first but weirdly begins kissing her back.
>And in a moment they both break the kiss and look away from each other.
>It's silent.
>Donovan speaks.
>"I.. Uh.."
>"Um.."
>"Sorry."
>"No, it's alright.."
>"I didn't mean to-"
>"I liked it.."
>"Really?"
>"You'll, hold me again won't you Don?"
>"I er, we need to get back. Anon's probably looking for us."
>"Right.."

>Snow has built up on the ground quickly.
>Several inches blanket the ground, leaving only the ocean untouched.
"Fuck if I'd known it'd turn into Siberia overnight I would have worn an extra layer."
>Chu sits huddling next to you.
>"My father told me about a Yokai who terrorizes travelers in the snow called the Yuki-Onna."
"Yookey Ohnah huh?"
>"Sometimes she leads travelers astray, othertimes, she simply kills them with her frozen breath."
"Hmm, so it's a girl?"
>"Yes, she is a pale beautiful woman wearing a white kimono."
>Donovan and Maven are still out there, you haven't seen hide nor hair of them.

What will you do?
>>
>>1275898
"Two heads are better than one I suppose...Just stick around and keep quiet."
>Stick around on the roof, looking through the scope for a sign of the troublesome duo or anything that might want to nibble on your giblets.
>>
>>1275904
Oh for fuck's sake. They pissed off to have a romantic rendevous? They're going to die like that. I wonder if this is going to be the love triangle from xxxHolic again. "I like him, and so do you, so let's get together."
>>
>>1275913
Nah, the troubled emo duo can have each other.
Meanwhile Chu is proving herself prime waifu material for our nameless protag.
>>
From what I remember of the Yuki Onna mythos is that they want to either cherish the one they love or spite humans. If it's the former then Maven is probs safe unless it's a lesbian. In any case, if we splash hot water on her shell melt like a wicked witch. Though they're usually capable of thought so I think we should try diplomacy first.

"Two heads are better than one I suppose...Just stick around and keep quiet."
>She nods.
>Snow continues to pile up.
>Suddenly you see a figure emerge from the forests edge.
>It's a figure wearing a white kimono.
>Your heart pounds seeing it.
"Thats it isn't it?"
>"Yes, that is the Yuki-Onna!"
"I'm gonna shoot it, is that fine?"
>"Try, but be careful."
>You fire rounds at her, but she disappears into the snow.
>Your heart pounds with fear.
>Oh fuck, you've really done it now.
>Suddenly from behind you a voice.
>"Hug the child."
>You whirl around seeing her with a young boy.
>You're hesitant to fire.
"What should I do?"
>"Answer! You must give answer or she kill you!"
"Uh.. What should I say?"
>The thing repeats itself.
>"Hug the child."
>"If you don't, she will shove you down a valley! But if you do hug the child you might freeze to death."
"Shoved down a valley? What do you mean shoved down a-"
>You turn behind you to see that the house you were standing on has become a massive cliffside with a valley below it.
>Reluctantly you walk over to the child.
>"Wait! Take my sword!"
>She hands you her sword.
"Why?"
>"Put the blade in your mouth and hug the child, quickly!"
"Uh, I don't know why I'm doing this but ok!"
>Carefully you bite down on the katana facing the blunt end inside the mouth and the sharp end outward.
>You hug the child with the blade in your mouth as the blade goes close to the childs head.
>When you release the child the Yuki-Onna gives you a chest full of tools.
>It speaks again,
>"Give me water."
"Ok, what now? Give it water?"
>"No! You must not give it water, we must give it tea!"
"Oh.. Well alright then."
----------

>You sit at the table with the Yuki-Onna across from you.
>Chest of tools by your side.
>Chu pours tea for her and then for you.
>She drinks of the tea.
"Well, this is strange.."
>Suddenly Chu speaks,
>"Saki kuromoji ni ato bōshi, shimetsuke haitara, ikanaru mono mo, kanō mai."
>Chu repeats this phrase several times.
>Suddenly the Yuki-Onna disappears.
"Is.. Is it gone?"
>"Yes, Yuki-Onna is gone."
>You breathe out a sigh of relief.
"Thank God."
>Suddenly Maven and Donovan come through the door.
>Donovan speaks.
>"Hey, wheres the monster? Did you kill it already?"
"Funny thing actually, we just finished having tea."
---------
What will you do now?
>>
Fucking christ in a hand basket.... We really REALLY need to fucking shove some horror movie sense into their tiny little brains... Lets hope to god that fucking monster wont rip one of em. we have like 300 more nights to survive and if we lose either pieces of our strategy, we might as well take a gun and shove it up our asses and fire.

Protag anon is fucking awesome btw. Thank fuck chu is your stereotipical jap women with a shit ton of knowledge about traditions.

Time left? i believe we have some for a good sleep right?

(btw anon protag to me is like a fucking sociopath who is only interested in getting shit done. he cant be asked for romanitc interest)
>>
>>1276190
or we could go stroll the perimeter and see the results of our encounter. act like the bona fide badass that we are.

(and maybe find like a wierd charm thingie who knows?)
>>
Let's put the two dumbasses under house arrest so they can fuck or whatever. Meanwhile, Chu and us can go have a nice romantic woodland da- I mean survey the perimeter and check out that map that Maven supposedly found.
>>
>>1276238
Lets not start doing harsh shit. we need to survive 1 year like this. better not start fucking our relations with them so early.
Survey the perimeter alone like a nonchalant prick and let everyone rest(/fuck) then have a serios talk next day.
>>
>>1276245
How about just telling them to just guard the house. Pretty much the same thing.
>>
>>1276273
No point in guarding the house since we know when the cryptids attack. Priority now is just rest + scavange any loot from the fight. In the day we should fix everything else.
>>
>>1276238
She might not be open to the idea of a date yet, but after how well she guided through that situation, we ought to do something nice for her.
What could that be though? Given the life or death circumstances it may have to be something that's more symbolic than substantial (like, we can't offer to cook for a day while she rests, we're too busy trying to survive for such niceties).
>>
>>1276049
We.... killed it with kindness, or tea? Or made it go away, either way, we got the "Yukie-Oona" here, thanks to Chu, it was a mythical Japanese monster. Either way, we are going to start watching movies about monsters when we can.

>In the morning you wake up.
>The map is left on the table.
>Near that is the box of tools.
>Chu enters the room.
>There are Sushi rolls and tea.
>You sit down.
"Ohio Goh-zai-maz?"
>"Ohayo Gozaimasu. Yoku nemuremashita ka?"
"Uh.."
>She giggles.
>"I got good rest. Rest is good for the soul. Just like tea."
>She sips the tea.
"Hey, thanks for last night."
>"You need help more you ask. I not want you to fight alone."
"Ok. Hey what's with this toolchest anyways?"
>You shuffle through it.
>It has a hammer, a machete, a saw, a hoe, an axe, a shovel and shears.
>"Yuki-Onna give you gift for passing trial remember?"
"Oh, is that what that was?"
>"Yes. This will help very much, I am growing garden out back."
"So what other kinda stuff you like?"
>She puts her finger to her chin.
>"Hmm. I like flowers, and puppies, and anything cute. Puppies especially. Like Aki, the one I had as a kid."
>You smile.
>You glance down at the map.
>On the map are several things.
>A hospital, a school building, a post office, a town, and a cemetery.
>Donovan and Maven enter the room.
"So where were you two last night?"
>They give each other uncomfortable looks.
-

"So, let me see if I have this right. Maven ran off to the Mosswood school district?"
>Maven responds.
>"I wanted to see if I could find any locals, maybe someone who could give us supplies, or even tell us about their encounters with the monsters."
>Donovan sighs.
>"There wasn't anyone there, the place was run down. Gave me the creeps."
"You both were lucky you weren't killed wandering around at night."
>Donovan replies,
>"Look it wasn't my fault! If I hadn't had to follow Maven I'd be back here with you! It wasn't my harebrained scheme to run out into the middle of the forest as the sun is going down on a HUNCH, that there might be someone else out there."
>Maven looks down.
>"I know, it was stupid. But I did it for a good reason. Maybe theres something we can learn about this island if we go explore all the locations on the map."
>Donovan replies,
>"All we're going to learn is that it's a huge waste of time. Whatever happened to these people, it probably wasn't good. And if the government is using this site as some kind of supernatural testing facility, you can be damn sure there aren't other civilians on it."
>"The government put us here for a reason though. And we have the whole year, what's the harm? We could find supplies there. Maybe even other useful things."
"The harm is when you two go Rambo on me. If we're going to explore these places we need to do it as a team. Maybe there is something there, or maybe it is a waste of time. But we won't find the answers sitting in this house. So enough speculation."
-----
-It's the 3rd day, 362 days remain.
-6 Hours remain before nightfall.
-How to proceed?
>>
>>1276829
Gently and politely tell Maven not to go off running like that without tell us, and next to plan things more thoroughly, since if we split up like that without a plan and each other knowing, we won't last the next 300 days.

We can do a more detailed exploration next time.

Did all the snow melt?
Anyways

Get the hatchet and start chopping up some wooden poles, we will start stockpiling them, until we have enough to stack em about 1 foot apart around the house in a perimeter about 20 meters in diameter, then start bending wooden twigs in between the poles to make a wall of sorts.

Now, before we start planting them into the ground we dig a trench and gather a bunch of rocks.

I we won't get this all done today, probably over the course of a week. So we work towards the wall, little by little.

If we decide not to build stuff, then we go to the nearest structure on the map, and check out the place.
>>
>>1276829
So right now we know they gonna bang every chance they get alone. We either go ourselves with maven and let donovan fix whatever we need or send him with chu to find stuff.

Although chu seems like she is really REALLY not attentive to stuff so she is kinda useless in a scavange. We pick up maven and go and find stuff with her and decide personally whats good and what is not.

Making a garden for vegetables is actually really smart so letting chu and donovan build defences and plant that garden is the smart move.

Also before we do anything we need to instal the following rule: unless the situation is can not allow it (imminent danger) we shall announce when and where we are going and with what motive. Also no matter what activity we are doing every one needs to gather 1 hour before night sets in so that we can prepair and psyche up and not risk getting cought outside and ambushed.
>>
>>1276858
(12 seconds too late damn anon u fast)
>>
>>1276860
I beat the QM here >>1276829
by 13 seconds.

>>1276859
We generally have the same idea, only real difference is tilling the land for a garden I suppose.

lets see, the girls stay home, and the guys go out for adventure maybe? or do we all want stay and fortify the place up a bit?

Maybe we can ask Chu what our food storage looks like for now.

>>1276860
Was that what Chu said in Japanese last night?
>>
>>1276875
Well i think Maven should go with us since she seems the kind of girl that sees shit we dont see. Also she found the map and donovan doesnt seem that interested in the idea.

We let him do the strong man stuff at home while we do the strong man in the city. Also i havent really thought about a wall. But we dont need trenches since i think most cryptids are gonna have paranormal powers like flight or teleportation. I think we really need to find a way to predict a rough location or patern of how cryptids come to hunt us.

So ye maven and anon pick up guns and go wandering in the city. Donovan stays and start building a wall Chu starts a garden.

Btw keeps me thinking. Who the fuck is chu? we didnt pick world chef food option... I smell betrayl.
>>
>>1276930
The trench is for letting us lay a more stable foundation with rock for the wall, not a trench as in, building a moat. We could probably skip the trench tho, or only need to skim off a few inches of dirt or soil.
>>
>>1276948
Dunno if we could use that wall as well. Again im sure most of em will just teleport around the place and rek their shit. The last monster literally teleported the house near a cliff... so ye. I think awareness prediction and knowledge outweigh raw defences. Also since some solutions were shit like throwing tea and hot water on em we need to amass a shit ton of oddities. So searching the area is paramount. Oh yeah I think Maven should perma reaserch criptids and mythology to find out the largest amount of rituals to clear critptids. we really god lucky that chu knew about the ghost lady,
>>
>>1276962
I though that was just temporary, like we got shifted through a dimension with a chiff nearby for the duration of the Yuki's magic, the nit reverts when its gone or served its purpose. If they can do that, then we should wear parachutes at all times since the can teleport us up into the air, or even underwater to drown us.

I think the house is still in the same place since Maven and Donovan still found the house in the same place?
>>
>>1276962
Either way, we don't have to build the wall now, I'm fine with gardening, and scouting, and gathering building material for the first day.
>>
>>1276573
A bouquet of pretty forest flowers?

I'm thinking Hydrangeas. They mean "thanks for helping me through a tough time" and her being stereotypically Jap, she should know what it means.
>>
>>1276998
We should grow flowers that have mythical backgrounds that can help us.
>>
>>1277001
Something like wolfsbane? Never know when we might see a werewolf...
>>
>>1276998
Fucking seconded so hard.

But we can't go looking for specific flowers (not to mention our protagonist didn't know what a yuki-onna was, nor how to pronounce it, I doubt he's going to know Japanese flower language), let's just get the cutest flowers we happen upon and to prevent things from getting too awkward (that is, giving her no alternative but to think we're hitting on her) let's make sure we say that we've thought of giving them to her both as thanks for her help and because when we saw the flowers we remembered she likes cute things.
>>
>>1277008
Can we just use silver bullets? More fun.
>>
>>1277001
(this is myphone )
We need to find all sorts of oddities not only flowers. We might need a cross holy water crowfeathers might i say eve animal organs. Possibly dolls and plushes for ghosts of children. Wooden stakes for vampires. All sorts of crap like this. We might even need swords axed and arrows since im sure some of the cryptids are going to be impervious to modern weaponry. We most defenitly need to explore more and gather info.
>>
Seriously though we haven t give chu a thought. I didnt see how she ended up helping us. She clearly isnt a companion choice and last time i remembered we picked the regular fresh food choice not luxury pack. Just who is she?
>>
>>1278021
We spent 10 points. That's the luxury pack dude.
>>
>>1278095
