So who's feeling up for a WRESTLING QUEST? In this particular quest, you will be playing as up and coming superstar Cody Lee, who has recently been recruited onto the world-spanning wrestling federation Razor Edge X (REX) Wrestling's developmental program, Initiative. This setting assumes that kayfabe, the fake world that wrestlers apparently live in on TV, is 100% real, with all the trappings therein. Sound interesting? Well, hop aboard! We're glad to hear you.

-----------------------------

Turning your body from side to side, you wrap up your warm up session with a bit of stretching. You very finally here, huh? Initiative, the proving grounds of the biggest promotion in the world. Even though you currently found yourself in the cramped, sweaty locker room backstage, you could easily hear the cheers of the crowd, the sound vibrating through your body and getting you amped up. This was it. Here we are. After the courtain jerk, where hard-hitting mixed martial artist Tyler Graves had beaten down the arrogant showboat that was Adrian Frye, your scheduled match - your debut match, in fact - was coming up.

Making sure your ensamble was on point, boots laced and kneepads adjusted, you left your locker room and began making your way towards the ring. With a pounding heart and nerves feeling like they could rip out of your body at any point, you turn your mind to just how you had found yourself here.

>The indies had been rough, but with hard work and some luck, you made enough of a name for yourself for REX to send you an offer you could not refuse. [INDIE DARLING Background. Will begin with a larger fanbase, but some snootier members of management might not respect you.]

>Professional wrestling was in your blood. Really, as long as you are a Lee, there was nothing else you could have done with your life. Still, you had big shoes to fill now. [WRESTLING FAMILY Background. Will begin with additional experience, but you risk inheriting past rivalries.]

>You had always known how to fight. Boxing, sports wrestling, martial arts. It all came easily to you, yet, had someone told you a year back that you were to show up on live TV signed under the REX Network, you would have scoffed at them. Talent scouts sure was an impressive thing. [SCOUTED Background. You are completely fresh to the world of professional wrestling. No benefits, but no noteworthy drawbacks.]

You continued to make your way towards the arena. As you got closer and closer, the roar of the crowd became more and more audible. As did the voice of the announcer, a voice you had only heard strictly on the other side of the screen before. Unable to suppress a grin, you once again hop from side to side, readying yourself one last time before moving to the arena.

"AND NOW, INTRODUCING... HAILING FROM RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA... WEIGHING IN AT TWO HUNDRED AND TWELVE POUNDS... COOOODYYYYY LLLLLEEEEEEEEEE!" The announcer roars, sending a shiver down your spine. A slow, steadily increasing guitar wail had already been building up your introduction, but as you emerge before the crowd and throw your arms open to greet them all, your music hits in full.

With a wide grin, you begin your stride down the ramp. You don't think you could live with yourself if you spoiled a chance like this. All the training you had done would be for nothing, the months of nothing but hard work that you put into making sure you were at your absolute best. You had worked particularly hard at...

(PICK TWO)
>Improving your high-flying abilities, making sure you could deliver fast and powerful high-impact moves from the top rope and training to launch yourself off of the ropes for flashy springboard maneuvers. [AERIALISM upgraded to Level 1]

>Hitting the weights, building yourself up to a true mastodon of raw strength, letting you bring opponents to the ground and making sure they stay there with devastating power moves. [POWER upgraded to Level 1]

>Studying under far more experienced wrestlers to improve your technical mat wrestling, learning how to use clinches, grapples and locks to your advantage. Your expertise lies in bringing opponents out through wear and tear, with chokeholds and painful submissions. [TECHNIQUE upgraded to Level 1]

>Attending martial arts classes and bringing the pain to any and all sandbag that came in your way. Your limbs became tools of destruction, bringing opponents down with vicious punches and kicks, not to mention earth-shattering elbows and knees. [STRIKING upgraded to Level 1]

>Finetuning your mic skills and mind games, taking psychology courses and learning from the best how to both hype up a crowd and get under your opponent's skin. You learned how to work the minds of your opposition and what you needed to do or say at any given time for the biggest impact, both to your competition and the audience back home. [CHARISMA upgraded to Level 1]

>Fighting in back yard brawls and taking self-defense courses. You learned not how to wrestle, but how to /fight/, and how to utilize your surroundings, foreign items and weapons to deliver vicious, crippling damage to anyone that comes in your way. [HARDCORE upgraded to Level 1]

You finally make your way down the ramp, the fans cheering as you did. Many seemed to recognize you from the indies and if memory served, rumors of your signing to REX had already circulated. Predictably, one of the many fans on the front row had a sign raised, loudly proclaiming "WE WANT LEE". Their eyes widen in awe as you pass by them and stop to give them a glance. How exactly you wish to treat this fan of yours, of course, you only have a moment to consider...

IMAGE ATTACHED: Cody Lee, as created.

You chuckle for a moment, amused and appreciative of a fan already showing up for your rumored debut match and raise your fist towards the star-struck fan for a fist bump. With a wide grin of his own, he completes the action as you continue to make your way up the stairs before finally ducking between the ropes to enter the ring proper. Once inside, you slam your fist into your open palm before raising it high into the air, prompting another cheer from the crowd, with far more energy this time around. Yeah... This was the stuff. Looking around, the sold-out Initiative crowd was far larger than most crowds you had ever wrestled in front of before. Yeah... Heh, yeah. This was the stuff, alright.

THOMPSON: "And Cody Lee wastes no time getting familiar with the REX Universe here tonight."

FLASH: "I'm going to have to agree with you, Jim. Question is, will he have what it takes in the ring tonight? Getting chummy with the crowd never won you any belts."

THOMPSON: "Maybe not, but as I need not remind anyone at home, Cody Lee already made quite the name for himself on the independent circuit. He is a veteran of the ring, even if this would be his first time in a REX arena. All that he needs to do now is take that one final step."

FLASH: "A crucial step at that, Jim. I'm skeptical, the indie circuit is nothing like Initiative, we all know that."

THOMPSON: "That we do, but give him a chance. I have high hopes for this kid."

And Jim Thompson and Randall Flash waste no time adding their own commentary to things. You had always loved those guys and their banter watching Initiative on TV, but now was your chance to prove yourself. In front of the commentators and in front of the entire REX Universe.

ANNOUNCER: "And his opponent, already in the ring... Weighing in at two hundred and sixteen pounds... Eeeliiiaaaaaasssss... Boooooolt!"

Finally turning away from the crowd (though not quite managing to wipe the big grin off your face) you finally see your opponent. A bearded man with long, dark hair. Of a similar build to yourself, but he had a few inches over you. You couldn't say that you had ever heard of Bolt before, but that was the glory of Initiative, wasn't it? Every week, some new face could show up. Seeing that he didn't even get an entrance proper, he had to be even fresher than you. Likely without any past career to speak of. Interesting...

The two of you lock eyes as the referee begins to rabble off the obligatory fair play rules to both of you. Perhaps this could be your chance to unnerve this guy some...

>Taunt him a bit. Get him worked up. [CHA]

>Remain neutral for now.

DICE SYSTEM: When taking an action requiring a roll (as noted by an attached attribute tag, such as [CHA]) you simply roll 1d100 with any trait modifiers (such as +5 for Charisma Adept). The closer to 100 you manage on the roll, the closer to "perfect" your attempt will be, and as such, the more beneficial to you it will be.

>Remain neutral for now.
Got to keep a cool face first.
>>
Also, nice pic, Booker. Looks perfect.

The staredown continues, but you decide not to escalate it. You'll have plenty of time to play mind games during the match if need be. For now, you'd better be careful.

The bell rings, the two of you quickly backing off from one another and slowly moving in circling motions around one another. Your eyes remain locked, hands occassionaly raising and lowering themselves as you try to predict one another's movements.

THOMPSON: "Here we go!"

FLASH: "We have the feeling-out process here. Neither competitor knows of the other, they need to properly get into one another's heads."

As you continue to circle, it becomes clear that Bolt is not going to take the initiative. You're going to have to act if you want to get somewhere, here...

>Reach out your hands to initiative grappling. [TECH]

>Rush in to knock this sucker down with a clothesline. [STRIKE]

>Stand tall and spread your arms, as if to goad Bolt into making a mistake. [CHA]

>Dash forward to run over Bolt with a shoulder tackle. [POW]

Whelp...

ROLLED: 8

After a few more seconds of circling, you stand up and spread your arms with a cocky grin, chuckling to yourself as you do. Mainly, you wanted to goad a response out of bolt.

LEE: "C'mon, we don't hav-"

Your first mistake was letting your guard down to quip, even for a second. The moment that your posture relaxed even slightly, Bolt immediately rushes forward and launches an elbow strike, connecting with a solid hit to your jaw and making you stagger back, holding on to your mouth as a dizzying sting rushes through most of your face. Ow, ow ow...

THOMPSON: "Ohh, what an elbow!"

FLASH: "Not the time to be slick, Lee!"

As you remain dazed for just a few seconds, Bolt wastes no time moving over and wrapping his arms around your waist, setting you up for a german suplex.

>Reverse into a german of your own. [POW]

ROLLED: 63

Thinking fast as soon as you recover, you quickly launch an elbow of your own back towards your opponent. The hit connects, dazing Bolt for a second, letting you land a second powerful elbow to have him loosen his grip enough for you to power out of it. Without hesitating for a moment you run straight out of the hold, quickly turning around and bouncing off the rope to floor Bolt with a devastating running clothesline.

FLASH: "And there's the power game from Cody Lee."

THOMPSON: "Indeed, if there's ever been something Lee has been known for, it's either his plethora of mind games or his raw strength, but will he capitalize?"

Looking down, you note that Bolt is still rather out of it after that clothesline, staring up at the lights. There's the inexperience you were sensing in him, any hardened opponent would already be up by now.

>Pick him up for a fallaway slam. [POW]

>Pose for the crowd as he gets up. [CHA]

>Sit him up and deliver a few stiff strikes to the side of his head. [STRIKE]

ROLLED: 23

After a moment of consideration, you walk forward towards your fallen opponent and hoist him up, one arm under his leg and the other wrapped squarely around his neck for a sideways hold. He is already getting back to however, and is struggling in your grip as you pick him up. This, combined with his larger frame, was making him pretty difficult to hold.

THOMPSON: "Oh, what is Lee thinking here?"

Just as you begin to slip up, you throw yourself and him backwards into a powerful fallaway slam, Bolt rolling a few feet upon impact. You didn't get all of it in, but what you did hit most certainly hurt. Now to follow it up...

You quickly roll back to your feet and pick Bolt up again, this time for a belly to belly suplex. It seems that he wasn't quite as dazed as you had hoped though, nailing you with another couple of elbows as you solidify your grip, but unlike Bolt before you refuse to let go, throwing Bolt back in a suplex that, frankly, could have been better but that most likely still hurt like hell.

FLASH: "And here's some plain aggression from Lee! This kind of mean streak could serve him well here in Initiative."

THOMPSON: "He doesn't seem done yet, though! Watch out!"

This time, Bolt is already crawling his way towards the ropes when you get back up, but you have a plan and you're sticking to it god dammit. You move forward and lift him up a third time, this time going for the german, but it seems that he had the move scouted already. As soon as you get a good grip around the larger man, Bolt throws his head back towards yours, cracking his skull against your face with enough force to make you lose your grip. Bolt is quick to capitalise, grabbing on to your neck and pulling you down along with him, smashing your mouth into his shoulder in a surprise sit out jawbreaker. Before you even know what's happening, you stagger back and land on your back, lights flashing before your eyes.

You can barely hear the commentators through the fog of impact, while Bolt seems to think that enough and hooks your leg for a pin.

ROLL 3D100 TO KICK OUT.
>>
Rolled 79, 21, 96 = 196 (3d100)

>>
1... Kickout!

It takes you only a second to regain your bearings and realise just what was happening, and you kick out of the pin before the referee's hand can hit the mat more than once. Working through the pain of the jawbreaker, you refind your balance and roll back up to your feet to face Bolt once more, both of you once again staring one another down.

THOMPSON: "Bolt went for an early pin, but seems to forget that Lee has plenty of in-ring experience on him! This is not like the performance center warmups!"

FLASH: "Yeah, it will take a lot more than that to put him away."

>Taunt him again. [CHA]
