It was a beautiful place to live.
Icarus Archipelago, a series of floating islands. On them lived a community of scientists who explored lost lands in search of forgotten technology.
They'd become masters of their chosen disciplines, sharing their specializations with their households, their young learning the skills of their parents.
Some families weaponized their knowledge, molding forces of nature into means of self-defense. Others used their crafts for creation and renewal. Still yet, there were some who chose to use their learnings to explore other places, biomes, even dimensions.
Regardless, the heads of the families were close friends, working and exploring in teams since childhood, as was becoming tradition.
One day, when most of the older members of each family left on an expedition, you decided to sneak out and explore as well.
To which family do you belong?
>The House of Biology, the Linnae family. Finding new and stunning places brings them peace; meeting new people and creatures grants them joy. Flora and fauna are their pride; they know the human anatomy like the posteriors of their own manus. The doctors and agriculturists of the Archipelago.
>House of Chemistry, the Lavoie family. Known for their love of spectacle, their arsenal being the loudest and most bright, but nevertheless destructive and poisonous. Mischievous but warm-hearted. They create medicines and fuel sources for the Archipelago.
>The House of Geology, the Barrings family. Their love of exploring is only matched by their voracity for finding new treasure, man-made or natural. No matter how strong an enemy's hold, the Barrings's drills will pierce their havens. Architecture is their livesblood.
>The House of Physics, belonging to the Boltzmann clan. They ponder the boundaries of the world, searching for new ways to subvert the Natural Laws. An eclectic bunch of specialists, their patriarch is a crazed, but benevolent genius. They are skilled pilots and drivers.
>The House of Electromagnetics, the Faraday dynasty. Electricity as their constant ally, they spend their time developing more efficient ways to create energy. The youngest children must devise or refine a method as a right of passage. They keep the Archipelago brimiming with power.
>The House of Meteorology, the family Raines. Often the navigators of their exploration teams, they have learned to manipulate the climate at will. Their great-grandmother developed the system that keeps the Archipelago aloft. Their children bring rain and wind to the crops.

The sky thunders as a flight of quick jets burst through them.
Away from the hangars of your home fly the Zephyrs, the latest invention of your father Bruce Boltzmann, a legendary engineer.
Hearing them roar off into the distance, you make your move. Stealing away to the garages that house your mother's teleporters, you spot Ellie, the middle daughter of the Barrings family.
It appears that she's about to activate one, headed to who knows where, with her drill-lance and a bag of mining gadgets.

Just your luck... You've been hoping for an adventure!
You call out to the young geologist, as she tunes the transmitter to her selected location.
"Ell! Where are you headed this time?"
She turns toward you, her vacant expression quickly turning into a mischievous grin.
"The Dark Sea Ruins. My grandparents told me about a powerful seismic device there that's capable of creating massive tsunamis." She touches and halts a holographic loading bar, almost at 100%. She holds the tracker just short of launching.
"I'm gonna use it to crack some mountains if I find it. Wanna come along?"
>Yeah, of course!(She becomes the team leader. Ellie will decide tasks and your combat rolls supplement and enhance hers. Choose of a sub-branch of Physics as your speciality.)

You grab a satchel from your mother's workbench, leaving your father's and uncle's travel-kits behind.
Math and movement have been your bread and butter since you were a toddler.
Your mother took you under her wing and taught you about the Natural Laws, how matter travels through space and how it reacts to external force when moving or static.
She also taught you how to make teleporters and create dimensional anomalies.
Mechanics are the foundation of reality, which you bend at will.
You place your firearm and tasaber on your belt. "Sure, I'll join you," you speak to Ellie, who grins in response. "But on equal footing. We're partners."
"Ah man... I wanted that piece of tech for myself," she sulks playfully.
You reach forward and grasp her shoulder. She releases the dial. Then, a bright light flashes and before you lies the insides of an ancient castle, surrounded on all sides by cascading water. The air is cold, smelling of salt and something sweet.
