You are Sigmund Carridan, apprentice to the Wizard Albeus the Old, Court Wizard of King Earldar III son of King Earldar II and ruler over the Kingdom of Almak.
The reign of King Earldar has been prosperous, mostly thanks to his wise advisor the Wizard Albeus, who has guided him to the way on the throne since he was but a small child. He mentored many Wizards and Mages all over the Kingdoms of Tholut. Whenever there was a problem that King Earldar couldn't handle or understand he turned to Albeus for answers, some say he is older than time, others say he inveted time itself, all that everyone knows is that he is old, older than any man walking on the face of Tholut. He knows more than the oldest books and the knows almost every man woman and child in the Kingdoms, he was the reason why Tholuts Kingdoms were saved from war and conflicts for he or his pupils have always managed to intervene with tension or distrust among the people of other Kingdoms.

It was a long ago that Albeus took you on as an apprentice. You were always talented in magic, you were mere 4 when you conjured your first lightning at your fathers feet. He wasn't really glad to find out his son wasn't going to contiue the family Lumber business. When you reached your 8th birthday your mother and father send you to Albeus to teach you in the ways of magic. You've been with him for 12 years now and grown into a clever and witty man. You learned alot of spells from Albeus and you were given a gift from him on your 18th birthday, your first magic staff. You've been using it ever since. Although you are talented in magic you still can't manage to conjure spells without a spellbook. So you always keep a notebook of all the spells you know so far. It's as good as Albeus book though, the book named Spellkeeper this magical book can do more than just be open and closed, through the magic that goes through it has the ability to speak and think like any human could, often times you heard them argue in his study, laughing or yelling at eachother, the book seems to be his best friend.

It is your 21th birthday, today you will finally go from an apprentice to a real wizard. You spent the day celebrating with your friends in the tavern and at home with your family. On the end of the day you were to meet Albeus in his Tower, there you'll be awarded your new title but as you arrive you aren't meet by Albeus but with multiple guards standing infront of the entrance of the Tower. As you move in to ask what happend the guards told you not to bother them, as you tell them who your are their eyes widen and they immediatly tell you that the King wants to speak to you. They escort you to the Throne room, on the way you think this is all just one of Albeus's pranks he likes to pull and he'll be waiting in the throne room to award you your new title. But as you enter you see King Earldar talking arguing with his advisors loudly in the hall.
>>
>>1240925
As you move closer into the richly decorated hall you hear more of the conversation of the King with his advisors. "I don't care if it's only been a day we need to find him!", "My King maybe he just got lost in the forest?", "Albeus knows my Kingdom even better than me! There is no way he would get lost and not be back before nightfall! Something happend to him and we need to find out what! I want every Scout, every Knight, every Soldier to survey the Land! Why must it be now why, there is no way this happens randomly!", as you arrive in the main hall the advisors and personnel are hurrying out of the Hall and shove themself past you through the exit, they don't seem to notice you. As you step closer to the throne you see King Earldar, he is an old man, nearing his 53th birthday, his hair is long gone and his skin is wrinkled and covered in age spots his face is covered by a long gray beard that reaches down to his chest and he drives his hands along his face and lets out a heavy sigh. From his usual proud standing figure is no trace to be seen, he has been reduced to a sunken mess of a man, he seems to be adrift from reality. So much even that he does not realise that you entered the room. Maybe you should say something to make him notice your presence, after all it is rude to approach a King without saying hello, or so Albeus has thaught you...

Hey man if you're waiting on votes you should probably green text a prompt to let people know that you're no longer writing

You stand before the King, do you...

As you take a step closer towards the throne and speak to the King, "What is wrong my leige? What seems to bother you so much?", the King looks up and scans the room, "Oh Carridan, it's you. I think I have grave news for you. Albeus he...he is gone! And now of all times could be the worst of all! I see no other connection to him going missing. If we don't find out where he is, or if he is in his hands, no one could forsee what could happen to my Kingdom...No, all of Tholut could be in danger!" , the King holds his head, his old age seems to be slowing him down recently and he become weaker than in his years of youth. He calms and stands up and looks at a colorful painting on the walls of the throne room, a large painting picturing the liberation of Tholut from the evil Archmage May'on and his devilish armies of the underworld. In the days of Earldar I, May'on was a powerful Wizard that was said to have made a deal with the demons of the underworld, he would be given unending power to take over all of Tholut and when done the demons would enslave it's population and harvest them for their lifepower to become immortal. But through a treaty between the Kingdoms of Tholut he was stopped and the demons were sent back to the Underworld. The battle against May'on was fought by no other than Albeus himself. He was the only wizard reaching close to May'on's powers. The ending of May'on was uncertian, some say he died, some say Albeus froze him for all eternity.

The King looks back at you and asks:" Have you ever heard of the Legend of the Blue Moon, young Carridan?"

>Yes I have!

"Then I'll tell you-" he walks over to a large bookshelf and takes out a large dusty book, it seems to been laying there for a while untouched, hidden by the rest of the books. He gestures you to follow him to a podium on which he places the book. You walk over to the podium and he opens the book. The page he opened the book on pictures a large blue moon which gloomy aura seems to stare through your very soul. "The legends tells of an event once every hundred years. The blue moon is said to rise from the sky and is a portal from our world to the underworld. But no one was ever powerful enough to open it. No one, but the Archmage May'on who lived over a thousand years ago. With his powers he was able to open a small gap between our world and the demonic realms of the beyond. Whilst it was open he made contact with the Demon Lord, Ka'Zak, a powerful demon that gave him unspeakable powers in return for a sacrafice. That day May'on went amok on his own tower killing and slaughtering in the name of his Lord, he went so far to even kill his own family to give make the demon give him what he desired. When the demon collected the souls of the dead he gave May'on the power to open a large rift between our world and the demon world, for long the world had only dark. The only thing that lit the dark night was the blue moon shining hell upon Tholut. The demons would've tormented this land forever if it hadn't been for my father and the other kings of Tholut. Together they formed the Pack of the Shattered Star, determined to kill May'on and banish the demons from back into their realm. They met defeat after defeat..." He turns a few pages picturing grusome pictures of battles, horrifying images of demons and the blue moon shining in the sky...
>>
>>1244022
"When mankind was at it's last breath-", he contiues, "A Wizard came to us, and made us remember that we can never give up!", he turns another page showing a glorious picture of Albeus, storming into a mass of demon warrios alongside human soldiers. "He equipped the soldiers with magic weapons and armors, and made them unstoppable. With his powers we stormed May'on's Tower at the edge of the Grey Mountains, and there Albeus slayed him and banished Ka'Zak back to his realm!", a spark of ambition fills the Kings eyes, but he let's out a great sigh and returns to his worried look. "Back then...May'on swore him revenge, revenge on him and all of mankind for faultering his plans... he said that when the blue moon rises he shall rise again into his Tower Umhad, and open the portal once more...", his eyes close. "That happend a hundred years ago.. I had all my alchemist all wise men in all of Tholut questioned... and they all say that this year the blue moon will rise once again... and with what May'on said, he will open the Portal once more. Only this time, he will not need anymore sacrafices, if he manages to sacrafice Albeus..." , the King slurs over to his throne and falls in it. " I have no clue where he could be, and the legend is true and May'on has risen again and has him in his clutches, then we are all doomed..." the King sinks into his throne. But you still need your answer on why you are here.

>Why have you brought me here then, if all is lost?
>Is there nothing we can do to stop this?
>Why are you not rescuing him then?
>Have you contacted the other Kingdoms?
>Interesting story and all but, about this weather am I right?

"Surely he can't be gone, sire! Have you contacted the other Kingdoms? Don't they know where he is?", you ask the King. "I have sent messengers in all the Kingdoms, but none returned with an answer I can rely on, no one has seen him neither the commoners nor the Kings or Nobles. He seems to have vanished from the face of Tholut..." , "Then why am I here?" You ask with raising your voice, "If all is lost then why bring me to you, how can I make a difference?" , the king raises his head and looks at with eyes such as daggers at you and then says:" Because you, young Carridan, have proven to be his most successful student, you mastered all of his tests perfectly, you were able to learn spells faster than any other wizard in their time, you are just a young man but already fit to be a proper Wizard, I put faith in you Carridan, which is why I task you with travelling to the Grey Mountains and find out if May'on has truly returned and has taken Albeus. Believe me when I say this, I have seen you flourish under Albeus's care, you grown not only into a healthy man, but a strong man not only in your body, but also your mind. You have proven time and time again that you are fit for this task. Will you accept this quest Carridan? Will you save your people and all of Tholut from years of destruction and pain?"

>Me!? Why me? Can't you charge his tower and take care of him for good?
>How could I possible stop May'on? I'm not even a full Wizard yet? Besides I never used my magic to kill anything!
>I will take your quest, King Earldar. I will travel to the Grey Mountains and do what must be done to save our realm.
>ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND!?

" Sire, why can't you just take his tower by yourself, or with the rest of the Kingdoms, May'on is as much as a danger to you than he is to us?" , "I understand your question, but it would be without use, a full army would never be able to make it in time through the grey mountains, and the way to Umhad is plastered with dangers, besides no one would be able to take on May'on not without the help of a Wizard." you realise the point of his arguement but still you are unsure about such a heavy task. "But King-" you object, "How will I be able to stop May'on, if only Albeus could kill him how would I be able to? I...I haven't even killed anything with magic before!" The King steps forward and meets you with a confident stare, he lifts his hand and places it on your shoulder. "Listen to me, young Carridan. I have no doubts in my mind, that you are the right person for this quest. I am sure Albeus must have something in his Tower that will help you on your journey I will have my men ready you provisions and a horse and I shall give you this." He takes a small worn-out sack infront of you and shoves it into your hands. "Albeus gave this to me when he thaught me the ways of a King, it is a sack of unlimited hold, whatever you need you can put in there, you must simply say it's name and the sack will spew it out for you, so make haste gather your things and ready yourself for your task. Oh and before I forget-" He steps one step back and raises his voice. "I, King Earldar III son of King Earldar II and heir to the Throne of Almak, hereby grant you the title of Wizard! Good now that we got that out of the way, be on your way now, be sure to stop by his tower, there might be something useful there. You will start your journey tomorrow morning!" , with that said he calls two guards that escort you outside of the Palace.

>Go to Albeus's Tower

I was kinda hoping he'd at least lend us a meatshield escort or a huntsman tracker. Oh well. Maybe we'll make friends on the road.

Let's head to the Tower

You make your way to Albeus's Tower, it has already become night time and the moon of Tholut shines peacefully down onto you, a fresh breeze curses past your feet, you try to calm your mind but you can't seem to find a peace of mind in all that will be in store for you in your journey, visions of you failing your quest cloud your mind, visions of fire and demons, but also visions of demons. You stop shortly by the castle pond. This was always a place you liked to visit, a few fireflies swarm around the dark glittering surface of the water. A couple bright frogs jump around the pond and their glowing bodies illuminate the dark water, "Why can't all nights this peaceful..." you mumble to yourself. You toss a stone or two in the water and then keep back on your path to the tower.

You arrive at the tower and the guards seem to have gone somewhere else, you push the large wooden door and enter the tower, as peak your head in the door you see a terrible sight. The entire tower is a mess, you move upwards the stairs of the tower and no matter where you look there is chaos, the pans in the kitchen battered and thrown onto the ground, the bookshelf, in the libary, destroyed and books torn apart and burned. The bathtub smashed to pieces, trophies and goblets hammered to crude golden scrap, windows smashed and candle holders snapped, but no sight of a fight...or...oh no! No sign of Spellkeeper either, if May'on was able to get his hands on Albeus's important weapon he would be unstoppable. Dark thought clutter your mind when you suddenly hear a muffled voice from behind a tipped over bookshelf.

>Approach the bookshelf?

Yes.

As you come closer to the bookshelf the voice suddenly stops. As you try to lift it, it suddenly is thrown to the side and a blast of wind hits you in the chest and knocks you off your feet, the whole room starts to spin for a second but you come back to your senses, and you can hear a loud voice appear through the ringing in your ears. "You won't take me to him you shape shifting beasts! Stay away or I swear I shall turn you to ashes, I know how to do that don't underestimate me because I can't move, I hold the knowledge off all that is written, I am the Ultimate book!" as you look up you see a book, with rich engravings and a fancy cover, it is Albeus's book, Spellkeeper, the talking book, they didn't find him. You try to stand up and tell Spellkeeper that it is only you, Spellkeeper's voice settles as he realises his fault in attacking you. "Oh my how rude of me young Carridan. I'm sorry I thought you were one of the Shapeshifters. Those monsters, oh if I only had arms, and fists... and legs... and wasn't made out of paper, but if I had these I would've never let them take Albeus away!", "What are you talking about Spellkeeper?" , you ask blowing dust off yourself, "Who took him?". Spellkeepers stutters in fear, "Servants of...of May'on he has returned and he will without a doubt use Albeus to give his soul to the Blue Moon, oh your Carrdidan we can not let that happen to Master Albeus, we need to save him! If he goes through with the ritual all of Tholut will be pludged into darkness once more!"

>Calm down Spellkeeper do you where they took him?
>Shut up book, gather yourself and tell me what happend!
>What happend Spellkeeper? What did you see?
>I understand Spellkeeper, don't worry. We'll find Albeus, but I need to help me on my quest. to find him.
>>
>>1246968
>What happend Spellkeeper? What did you see? What happened to our master?
>>
>>1246968
>Slow down, 'keeper. What exactly did you see? What did they look like and where did they go?
Albeus surely knew shit's coming down and would have some contingency prepared...
>Did master leave something behind that could help?

Spellkeeper whines in distress, "Oh young Carridan it was horrible, these two scaley devilish fiends came in here disguised as Guards and told him that they'll take him to the King, I don't know how Albeus didn't see through their disguise. As soon as he turned his back on them they transformed back into their regular form!", the creature Spellkeeper is revering to is called a Chameon a race of bipedal Lizards lurking in the damp swamps of Turam a land on the egde of the Grey Mountains, their natural ability to change their shape and look make them perfect assasins and spies. Some people believe that even their closes friends might be Chameons in disguise, the only way to prove it is to spill cold water on them, this forces them to change their shape back to their normal form to not freeze to death, Chameons are most vunerable to cold because their natural habitat may make them resilient against heat but not colder temperatures. "And when he turned around they they knocked him off his feet with their disgusting slithery tongues and put him too sleep. One of them ran off with Albeus and the other one rampaged through the Tower, looking for something, but...wait a minute, I never heard anyone entering the tower after the one carrying Albeus went away. CARRIDAN BEHIND YOU WATCH OUT!" you twist your head to the ceiling were you spot the green scaley creature staring down on you with his yellow glowing eyes and a hellish grin on his face.

>Fighting
In this adventure the fighting will turn based, every time you attack an enemy you will have to choose a way too attack and then roll a 1d20 to roll out how much damage you do or if you hit at all, for most enemies you will need an above 10 roll. I'm still pretty new to being a QM on /qst/ so correct me if I'm doing something wrong If you don't manage to hit an enemy you will have to roll a defense roll with the same dice, if you get a higher roll than the enemy you will repell the attack.

welp time to get ourselves a squirt gun and test everyone we meet with it.
That's going to make for great first impressions and making friends...

Do we have any cold or water-based magical attacks?

You could take Spellkeeper and ask him, seeing how he is the almighty spellbook of basiclly all spells to find you one, because even though you are fairly good at casting the spells you still have problems remembering how to recite them.
