So a while ago I dabbled in a quest that simulated the political climate of interwar germany, with player-controlled political parties and a general GSG vibe. I was wondering if anyone was interested in trying to hold something similar again. I can do QM, if people want to, but I'd like to make sure there's interest before I actually engage with making maps or electoral systems.

If interest, anyone interested in trying another nation than Germany, or should we stick with the number 1 political shitstew of the interwar period?

I'd have interest, but I'm in Europe, so I'm probably not gonna be able to participate much if this is starting time

Nah, I'm from Europe too. Probably will only do a few updates tonight, and be semi-slow next week onwards. Busy scheudle, but should be manageable.
>>
>>1199213
sure, if you do like long form turns, I'd be all up for it, for one
>>
>>1199216
Allright. While I get the map ready, I'll lay down some rules and instructions.

1. Let's try to keep silly shit on the low. We all like to joke but a more RP-esque quest is fun if you don't silly it up, me thinks.
2. Each electoral district will be worth as many seats as indicated on the map I will provide soon.
3. Each turn, parties must react to events, can make a maximum of 2 new decisions of action, and get to further choose what districts (max 3) to focus on for the next turn, in order to gain support there.
4. Federal elections are held every fourth year, and presidential elections every sixth, barring special scenarios.

Form for creation of party:

Party name:
Political alignment:
Main issues (max 4):
Slogan:

Feel free to provide additional info or backstory on the party if you feel like it. Would be brilliant. If there isn't a massive amount of players, I'll try to hold a few QM-held parties in store as well that will act more or less randomly as opponents.

Thank you. Admittedly, my German is rather lacking, though I've got my textbook on the interwar period on hand for reference.
>>
I'll write the first post/turn, and then let's wish on a star for more parties.

The year is 1919. Some call it a stab in the back, others the end of a machine with rusty gears. The war has come to an end.

In the heart of a losing nation we see unrest, civil disorder, starvation and dispair. A swift communist revolution in Bavaria has been put down, but for how long?

A crisis shakes the nation as disgruntled former soldiers return to their country, only to find their homes long gone and their family impoverished. Local bands of militias and paramilitaries wrest for the control of inner cities, and extremism finds the heart in many a german men and women, perhaps somewhere deep down inside calling for revenge. Revenge against the "victors" to whom they should've never surrendered.

For now though, all that is wanted (and needed) is peace. Germany has been forced to kneel and sign the treaty of Versailles, leaving it now in the bitter situation of having not only to rebuild itself but also having to rebuild the victors of the previous war.

New parties rise and fall daily, and only time will tell which will remain. Currently, the strong powers of the political nest are the SPD, the DDP and the Centre party. The SPD's support is currently waning, due in part to calls for more radical, more extremist solutions. They are, however, by far the largest party and in control of the Reichstag. They were one of the main supporters for the peace, and now that they have gotten it, it is time to show the german people what they can make of this peace.

If you want any stats/info, let me know please and I'll try to supply. Since >>1199313 has a textbook handy, I feel no shame in occasionally perhaps having to ask for advice.

Reaction decision for the DWN:

You are a small party, but not one that is currently out of the call for running in the next elections. For this, however, you need increase your public visibility. One of your trusted advisors has advised you to try and publish a short (yet poignant) manifesto that party members would be able to decry in public streets and squares all across Germany. How do you respond?

Reaction decision for the SPD:

You're the biggest party in the Reichstag by quite some majority, yet some in the party ladders talk of support from the people waning. Could this be true? Some say that the push for a treaty as destructive as Versaille was a misstake. Nevertheless, the goverment must make a decision on how to tackle the issue of many soldiers whom now roam destitute and only find quarters in the barracks of paramilitary movements. Something must be done to ease their way back into being productive members of society.

Every turn will last 1/3 of a year. Remember that you have the reaction-action, as well the chance to make 2 new decisions and choose what districs to campaign in for now.

>>
"An eagle beset by hunters"

This section of the first sentence of the DWN manifesto describes the toil of the German state against the foe. The Manifesto paints a moderate, but emotive view of the war, presenting the various glories of the German people in their toil against a more than equal foe, frequently referencing stories of valour from among the veterans of the party, and presenting the treaty of Versailles as an insult to German Honour, giving no due to the valour displayed by the millions of sons who fought in this great war.

The party manifesto opens with this outcry at the treaty of Versailles, placing the blame wholly upon the corrupt and cowardly commanders of the foe, and the weak willed politicians who did not have the valour to fight for the German people as the German people had fought for them.

The remainder of the Manifesto calls out for a return to the former Glories of the German people, offering up a chance for new employment in a rebuilt and expanded German industry, and calling upon the people to drive for the rebirth of their wounded nation.

>Action
Campaign in Ostpreussen

The figure of a strong old man, representing the German state, wounded, and left to lie in the cold upon the street, in the courtyard of a foreboding ruined factory, staring out at the viewer, with the words "To starve a pauper, the reward for years of Valour?"
below, underlined by the words, in bold text "Rebirth in Glory!", is printed upon posters on the street corners of Konigsberg and in the surrounding cities, the heart of DWN support.

Here's the current political support, for your interest. The SPD has strong support, especially in the most heavily industrialized areas and the west border (the two overlap, creating a very strong situation in the west for SPD indeed).

The centre has a moderate base in it's districts, and strangely almost fanatical support in Silesia. However, some question their political ferocity.

The DDP (Deutschen Demokratischer Partei) is fighting hard to remain dominant in it's districts against other, relatively minor, parties. It has a momentary advantage over the SPD in Hessen, but some predict this will not last long.

Colors for this map:

Red - SPD
Yellow - Centre
Grey - DDP
White - Minor parties

Seats:

SPD - 75
Centre - 37
DDP - 25
Minor parties - 13

what, the paramilitaries and whatnot?

I suggest forming a worker's defense, a coordinated net of party backed defensive paramilitary groups fashioned after the Austrain Heimwehrs.

I suggest working with the communists in the coordination.

I happen to know that a lot of workers are on government sponsored strikes at the moment, so I think those strikers would be good to use for the Heimwehr.

Turn 2

>>1199432
The campaign proves to be a massive success in East Prussia, as well as parts of Pommern and Frankfurt, but the militaristic jargon loses the DWN any credibility in the west and Ruhr-areas. The people there may be upset by war, but atleast for now are not convinced revanchism is right for them. If an election were to be held now, it is likely you would atleast win the province of Ostpreussen. You are, however, approached by a man who claims to be from the govermental agency of political security. He says he has come on behalf of the reigning powers to ask that you "lower your voice". A discussion in the French senate also reaches your ear, in which they had condemned the fact that "politicians in rising popularity" has talked of such dismayal actions as ignoring the recently-set treaty. For now, though, this is far from being taken seriously, and your reputation is that of somewhat of a laughing stock amongst the former Entente.

>>1199468
Your campaigns in Bavaria are on some levels met with happiness that the goverment finally would turn their face their, as the locals there have for some time felt neglected. This, however, has led to the strong local presence of the Bavarian Peoples Party, which has very strong support amongst the Bavarians, that feel somewhat betrayed by the goverment that led them into a disastrous war, and then "let" a revolution strike in the region. In short, the distrust of the goverment here is strong.

Your general politics in the aims of "Extortions first, Germans second" (as it has become known with your opponents) causes you to lose face in the north and eastern parts of the country. Unemployment and the poor conditions of workers in the Rhine industrial area causes a major catastrophe, a massive strike. 60% of all factories that still could operate (withing the Rhine-area) are now striking, with the workers demanding bread and better living standards. As a result, production is more or less at a standstill in the west. Furthermore, a note has been brought to you from the French, offering the help of the french armed forces in the beating down the dissidents. In return, the French would in principle have direct control of the factories there for a period of 3 years, in order to aid reparation-payments. As the leading party in the Reichstag, you are expected to act quickly and decisively, with a rampant inflation and now this crisis putting you in a tough spot. The centre party is arguing unwaveringly for the French military invention, whilst the DDP almost breaks out in riot in opposition. Both parties demand you cater to their view, lest they oppose you for the remainder of the term. There are rumors sifting that a major political figure in your party is indirectly responsible for agitating the workers to strike. You will also have to decide what to do with him.

The political climate is shifting slightly, with the DDP taking control of Niederbayern-Oberpfalz and the new DWN rising in popularity in the east. People currently are disillusioned with some of the larger parties, feeling they need either reinvent themselves or make way for newer parties. People love an underdog, so to say.

This seems a bit early, right after a surprise relative victory in Bavaria (and agriculture in general, surprisingly) in the elections that JUST happened.
>>
>>1199561
This is just the current support. The BPP hasn't actually got the positions in goverment, that is held by another minor party in the region. (Not related to Bavarian nationalism)
>>
>>1199564
no I get that, but the Bavarians have voted for the SPD in surprising numbers, and just as they take office they suddenly are livid that I haven't turned up there in so long? It seems very premature for that.

Also, enter in talks with the factories in the Rhine area regarding buying their factories. The troublemaker in the party will be scolded and shadow-suspended, meaning for the time being, he will be barred from meetings and inner party decision making until the issue has been sorted one way or another.
>>
What actions can be taken other than campaigning? What if I were to want to push for the rebuilding of industry in Ostpreussen rather than campaigning, or wanted to set up an organization for soup kitchens, public work projects and suchlike. I've no intent to base the DWN on a military platform, and considering the suspicion of the government, It seems like a time to help rebuild prosperity in East Prussia, or at least to aid the poor.

>>1199579
Any action you could REASONABLY take as a small (regional, currently) party is within your possibility. Your party base would indeed be enough to support the establishment of soup kitchens and the like. However, being a small party your party economics is not in the best of cases, and it might eat well into campaign-funds and the like if you decide to import and distribute food (for example).

Party name: Deutsche statistische Partei (DSP)
>Also im not german and did this in google translate, word checks are appreciated
Political alignment: traditionalist Statism
Main issues:
1) strenghtining centralization of the government into a more efficient machine.
2) Restoring our international integrity by rejecting the entante and playing on an equal field instead of being robbed blind.
3) putting government participation in bisuness and local affairs as minimally as possible.
4) Restoring dependance in national resources and production by cutting imports to the bare essentials and exporting more goods. This will be achived after reperations are cut to the entante.
Motto: Glory to nation, people and pride

Initially campaign in thuringen. Appeal to community leaders and schools, make posters informing those with no work to congregate and orginize these poor people with the help of local officials to create shelters, public works and maintinance for the benift of the province, the people living in it, and for the convinience of the provincial government.

The DWN, under the capable leadership of Ruprecht Gustav, a charismatic aristocratic veteran, sets to work organizing themselves. The central party, based around Gustav and the various founders of the party maintains a base in Konigsberg staffed by clerks and veterans, with smaller groups located in the surrounding cities of East Prussia.

In the aftermath of their surge in popularity, the party sets to work consolidating their gains, spreading their posters, usually representing a either the classic figure of an old veteran, asking for aid, or the more unique image of Germany herself, wearing rags and emaciated by Hunger, weeping and staring out at the viewer, with various captions decrying the destruction of German culture, and the desecration of the country itself, calling the people not to military endeavour, but to rebuild what has been lost, to

"Reclothe the sisters, Germany and Liberty, in the dresses torn from them"

This propaganda is much more widespread than the former, distributed to smaller villages. Party members are encouraged to work for the good of the community, and for their country, with Gustav himself leading the way, making a speech in Konigsberg, before removing his formal aristocratic dress, rolling up his sleeves, and beginning to work alongside party members, repairing fences and infrastructure damaged by negligence, and being seen to care for the elderly, left without sons.

Much of Gustav's personal wealth is contributed, along with some of the Party budget, to establish soup kitchens and food banks in the community, with Gustav encouraging his fellow aristocrats to give their excess food to maintain the poor. It is important to note that the party does not encourage socialism, definitely not communism, making clear it's ultimate aim to rebuild industry and to provide jobs to the proud German people. "Work, Liberty, Germany".

Well, rather that the strikes themselves are hindering your progress in paying reparations. You need to decide what to do directly, letting them be and dissapate or meeting their demands, by force or by appeasement.

The French also need a reply to the sent note.
>>
>>1199649
I'm meeting their demands by appeasement in the form of buying out and subsidizing factories.

The French get a rejection on their offer, but an assurance that the products will be used as reparations under German control as well. Just not fully.

Turn 3

A new party has formed, centering themselves in campaigns in Thüringia, though fighting amidst a political battle of many opponents. They pose a threat to the DDP's political control of the region, but fail to create a strong enough party base to actually win majority support in the region. Nonetheless, they are now a contestor in the zone.

The DWN in east Prussia strengthen their hold on the region, amidst public laudation to the aid and support sent, though their campaigning elsewhere is lackluster due to a lack of party funds for campaign-work. Nevertheless, the region of Schleswig-Holstein now has majority support for the DWN, but only barely. Their support there can be described as shaky at best.

The Centre is growing in support in certain areas that are more or less "swing" regions.

The goverment reaches deep into their pockets in order to gain control, and to subsidize the factories which are facing strike. For now, the workers are placated and go back to work, though still ever so lightly dissident of their lack of living standards. The Centre party is dismayed at the rejection of the french terms, having preferred to use this as a means to get on the Allies's brighter side perhaps, though they remain cooperative, perhaps not simply to the fullest degree. The DDP raises vocal opposition to the use of state funds for subsidizing of factories, but nonetheless praise the SPD for not caving to French demands. The French themselves grow suspicious, but are (for now) placated.

Event:

It is a sunny afternoon at a café in Bremen. A local SPD politician can be seen talking to the public, and going about his daily buisness before settling in on a nice cup of coffee and a delicious pastry. It is not long before the bliss of peace is broken by a shot coming seemingly out of nowhere. The politician now has a little bit more than a red tie, his whole fat body almost covered in gushing blood. Cars steer out of the road and a man dressed in fnacy clothing can be seen running up a block of flats. A few moments later, he is brought out of the building, subdued by people in workers overalls. They claim the man is a representative of the DDP and proclaim him all that is wrong with Germany. As he is thrown to the ground, he can be heard weeping, begging for his life. One of the workers reaches for a hammer in his belt, smashing the poor sods skull to pieces, before escaping away into alleways. Needless to say, this causes a minor political upproar amongst the DDP, who not only demand a placation of the workers (directly implicating the SPD), but also denouncing him as having anything to do with their party.

All parties may react as they see fit to the event.
>>
We'll be pausing for the night since one of the parties has gone to sleep. I'll be taking/doing anything except for advancing to the next turn for now. I'll be looking here for atleast another hour or so before I head off myself, and look again tommorow at the very least.
>>
>>1199706
I'll still react before going to bed.

>of course the SPD politician is fat
accurate. Likely has a mustache as well.

Response to the event: Justice must be served. The one (and only the one) man that swung the hammer will be sought after for manslaughter charges. It is spun as too aggressive aid for the victim.

The SPD uses this to go on the offensive: The DDP is called out, that they either must truly wear a mantle of cooperation, or show their true colours - The message is: If they will pursue this avenue to attack the SPD, it will be used as proof that it was a DDP approved hit.

Meanwhile, the politician is mourned and propped up as the victim of the destabilizing factor of extremism.

I will continue to campaign in Bavaria.
>>
The DWN, secure in their control of East Prussia, reduce charity in the region to a more manageable level, encouraging membership, and then encouraging members to help in the maintenance of public works, and the distribution of propaganda.

Gustav, after delivering a Stirling speech thanking those who worked along-side him for their aid in to Germany, sets out, amid a very visible, emotional ceremony, departs from Konigsberg, traveling to Schleswig Holstein to establish a party organization in the area. Gustav lands, without much ostentation at a Naval port, and immediately sets to work, moving into the nearby party headquarters and setting to work in a new way, focusing on appeasing the sailors of the region, delivering a series of speeches thanking them for their gallant service, but not straying too far towards Revanchism.

Propaganda is printed, specialized for the naval character of the area, with the same figure of Germany being saved from drowning, or put into a context more familiar to the local people.

Beyond this campaign, Gustav attempts to appeal to the local industrial figures, managers of now disused naval factories, offering them help in placating their workers in the short terms, and in the long term, to work toward a re-establishment of international trade, with a view towards the likely much needed production of convoy trading ships. The standard promises against communism are also given. Gustav's own personal charisma, and station as an Aristocrat, are taken advantage of in this circumstance, as they are in others.

In the shocking aftermath of the assassination, the Party leadership decried the moral decay of Germany that could lead a man to shoot a "son of liberty", and calling for the good people of Germany to work to re-establish the virtues of their past.

Continue to campaign in thuringia, this time using local support to aquire various sympathetic mayorships and such, use the clout we then have to push fiscal reform and the employment of the starving into jobs of public works and other services.

Reaction to the assasination? The injustices by both the assasin and the worker that commited manslaughter need to be addressed, particularly in the worker's case, since he can still be held accountable for a crime. The assassin's situation should be investigated and his belongings confiscated by the state to put to use elsewhere such as giving out loans and injecting resources into shelters for the starving

>Name
Bayerische Spartakistenfront (BS)

Political Alignment: Communism

Main Issues:
> Creation of a Social Democracy within Bavaria (and Germany once the party grows)
> Rebuilding of German industry
> Redistrubution of wealth from the bourgeoise to the lower classes
> Creation of a modern German army, to protect against foreign intervention

Following the failed Spartacist Uprising in early 1919, the German Spartacist movement was all but crushed by the ruling SPD. Many of the former Spartacist League fled to Bavaria following the suppression of the party, where communist sentiments still ran high.

August Thalheimer, the leading theoretician of Communist thought in Germany, quickly took on a leading role within this movement.

However, as soon as Thalheimer began gaining traction, the populist BPP grew in popularity. In response, Thalheimer adopted an even more radical stance, adopting a policy of harsh wealth distribution and hardline Communism.

Slogan: Power to the Worker!

Color: Orange, or dark red I guess.

Posted right at the beginning, but didn't get to join due to other stuff happening. I was going to go for the communists, but as there's already one of those (along with most other places on the political spectrum), I figure I might take the helm of the Centre party and bring my own brand of wishy-washy catholic non-committal. At least, so long as that's ok with you, OP, but seeing as the SDP is player controlled I don't see why the Centre couldn't be. I might try to guide them to a bit more of a solid position than they ever achieved historically.

Party name: Deutsche Zentrumspartei (often called Zentrum/Centre)
Political alignment: Social Conservatism (Centre-right)
Main issues (max 4):
-Promotion of traditional Christian values
-Uphold and strengthen the new republic and democratic system
-Protection of Catholics rights within Germany
-Restoration of Germany as a world power
Colour: Yellow

Theoretically no longer a religiously aligned party, but in reality almost entirely made up of Catholics, the Centre party have a rather vague political identity, but retain large support in Catholic majority areas. They mainly support traditional christian and family values, but have also emerged as a supporter of the new democratic system and german state.

Parties updated, I'll get working on a mupdate.

Q2 1920

In the wake of the assassination and chaos, support for both the DDP and the SPD is shaken in many areas. Partyl, the use of the SPD politician as a martyr is very sucessfull in garnering support, but the DDP counters arguing that the SPD is bringing extremism into the Reichstag by suggesting that the assassin had anything to do with DDP.

On the more polticial scheme, things are still at an uppheval, with more parties gathering control in region-based areas, but the major parties still holding the largest control, though their power is dwindling in many of the bigger areas. Berlin itself has manifested as something of a melting pot of different political ideologies, with almost daily fighting on the streets between extremists. Rumors exist of a monarchist party here growing in support, but the SPD still remains in majority in the city, due to the splintered nature of their opponents.

In Thüringia, it is now expected the DSP holds their first region as a majority-support region, though their control is weak and shaky. With their power, they act in manners of public generosity, which garners them some further support and a spreading renown to other regions. But, as said, their power is still weak.

The DWN continue to campaign in Schleswig-Holstein, using their by now renowned figurehead Friedrich Gustav. His attempted sympathies with the working naval class of the region, however, falls on deaf ears. Most sailors here feel the DWN doesn't have much to offer them, rather they still look towards more radical leftist solutions. Nonetheless, a minor amount of further support is gained, and before long a rich burgher approaches Gustav in the street with an offer. He is the owner of a large printing and publishing house, where he (amongst others) print the KPD's local party newspaper, books by local authors and so on. He intends to retire, and would wish to offer to sell you his "empire", though for quite a hefty sum. The money itself is quite vast for the offered "empire", but he won't budge on the price, stating he wants to establish a peaceful future for his children.

In the south of Germany the Bavarians are at it again. The recent BPP has lost the majority battle to the SPD by a very narrow margin, but the emergence of a party-political front of the Spartacist's league creates an outright air of hostility and violence in the region. The party is deemed illegal by members of the DDP and Centre of the reichstag, but the SPD still has to have their say in the matter regarding the issue. The party, though, is characterised by people looking at it as no more than failed extremists taking a different route, a rather dim view of the party in light of the failed uprising. For now, they pull numbers from both fromer SPD and BPP members, but their support is far from major.

I will campaign in Mecklenburg.

The government will also invite John Maynard Keynes to advice the German government on minimal reparations.

There is a new slogan on the flags of the SPD: "Forwards, not Backwards!" with the battered and bloated black white red flag wearing representation of the old Reich on the posters, being thrown down by a steeled sailor with the black gold and red. It is meant to be reminiscent of the sailor's revolt that helped the SPD end the war.

The production of the factories we now at least in parts own, will go partially into redistribution - Product coupons will be used instead of cash as much as possible, especially in the main cities of Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, to keep the poverty at bay.

Another large part will be sent to France as a reasonable part (not the whole 50 mil) of the yearly reparations. I will wait for Keynes word before doing any substantial in that direction.

Whatever is left will be pumped into the economy.

>reaction to Spartacians

The SPD makes a public call for a Spartacist manifesto - it is to include a pledge to non-violence and democracy. Until that point, the Spartacists are not a party, but a destabilizing factor in a Germany that is just now finding its bearing.

Oh, and also I invite the British Prime minister for a state visit.
>>
>>1202154
>>1202151
France is happy to see some repayments made, but are strident that if the payments themselves are not completed in full by Q2 1922, then they will take further action.

The British prime minister enters your office on a sunny day, using a napkin to brush away sweat from his forehead.

"I thank you for inviting me on this frightfully warm day. I hear the German state is in modest dissarray. What have you wished to discuss?"

John Maynard Keynes sends a note stating that he himself is currently fully occupied, and unavailable for consult in matters of any external goverment.
>>
>>1202262
>are not completed in full by Q2 1922
well we still have negotiations in 1921, right? We might be able to get a more favourable agreement than reality.

>John Maynard Keynes sends a note stating that he himself is currently fully occupied, and unavailable for consult in matters of any external goverment.

Oh shit, we've broke the timeline. Instead then the party will scour German Universities for someone to take his place in history.

>"I thank you for inviting me on this frightfully warm day. I hear the German state is in modest dissarray. What have you wished to discuss?"

"The disarray is one in the process of dying down, as we have managed to keep the workers happy for now. But there is one great enemy of democracy lurking in this country, and its poverty. Look about you, and you will see that what the Kaiser has wrought upon my people erodes them physically, and will erode their ideology yet.
France has already tried to take control of German industry to weaken our ability to feed our people further, and I dread what will happen once they make good on the threats in 1922 - for I have doubts that Germany can produce what they ask for and not starve.
I have invited you to plead on you for your aid in the negotiations that are still scheduled.
If you help us regain industrial - not military - efficiency, you will find yourself a lucrative trading partner, and a peaceful heart of Europe."
>>
>>1202279
Yeah, we're not going the full historical route. You'll have negotitations until France loses patience, of which they are very short (revanchism being fullfilled and all that).

The prime minister looks at you some queerly, almost in distrust of your boldness, yet in apprecation of sincerity.

"It is no secret that the British nation is not in full favor of the harsh implications of the treay imposed on you, but we have no intention of betraying our allies. Germany will make their repayments and I truly do worry wether you in seriousness expect us to sit ildly by as the industrial machine that cast Europe into war is reinvigorated? Nonetheless, Britain understands your troubles. We will talk to the French, negotiate as well we can, at the very least to further peace in Europe. You are a tempered man, and one who is not ashamed of admitting when he is in crises. I must ask you, what is it you intend we do to help your industry achieve the rapyments (atleast), and what will Britain get for helping you in this deal? Furthermore, we must have your personal ensurance, as well as that of your party, that an improved industry would in no part aid a resurgence of the machine that was the Reich, and at the very least we require reassurance that any rearmament is completely out of question."
>>
>>1202295
"What we ask of Britain is to be sympathetic to Germany in the question of wether Versailles has to be renegotiated. For it must.
The German people can't die for the validation of a scorned France. And the SPD is a party of the people, and the people cannot eat armament. As long as we have nothing to fear from France - which a revised treaty would mutually assure - weapons would be a horrific misuse of our industry. You have my personal assurance, as well as that of my party, that we will not exceed the military restrictions set in the treaty as long as Germany's integrity is assured by the Entente. I gladly will give you that in writing."
>>
>>1202319
"Britain will not betray her allies by forming a new treaty simply to accomodate the warmongers. We will negotiate on your behalf in France, mayhaps in order to buy you time and a bit of leniancy in the rates, but rest assured that we cannot be seen to faulter in our resolve to see through this blasted treaty, even if this means the German nation going through hardship. We should reasonably be able to hold the French at bay, but as long as we do so we are ourselves straining our relationship with them. In order to ensure peace in Europe, we must go through with this horrid deal now. You have my fullest sympathies."

The prime minister takes his leave, sighing and noting a pipe from his pocket.
>>
>>1202361
Eh, good enough. I'll have him be given a copy of "The Consequence of the Peace" when he goes, and we'll be looking for a good economist in the German universities to advice us.
>>
Shit, I need to raise a fuckton of money real fast.

Gustav will travel rapidly to East Prussia to do some fundraising among the rich Industrialists there. He will appeal to their base fear of communism, and remind them of the glory days before the war, staging several meetings in the aftermath of what Operas can be found, or after readings of Germanic Poetry. Gustav promises that his party will push to rebuild industry on private grounds, making it clear that they want to rebuild a nation that allows any man to rise through hard work, as many of the industrialists have already. Gustav takes a central role in these appeals, but in the meantime the men surrounding him work similarly. When/If Gustav raises sufficient funds, he will purchase the "empire" of the businessman, and begin to use it to print pro-party newspapers, reminding the people of the glory days before the war, focusing on culture and economic prosperity, along with setting about mass printing of campaign posters. Along with this campaigning, he will attempt to continue profitable business for the printing house.

The Party refocuses itself from Schleswig Holstein to Pommern, attempting to gauge the political climate of the region, and continuing the standard propaganda campaigns used in East Prussia, once again tailored to the region.

Zentrum contains a rather large political spectrum, from hard left to hard right. As a result, it lacks a solid political identity. However, led by prominent centre-left figures such as Matthias Erzberger and Joseph Wirth it stands a chance of emerging as a more defined force in German politics.

The Polish minority in Silesia, East Prussia, and along eastern border of Germany is a relatively easy target. Although predominantly Catholic, Zentrum has never had a great support amongst the Poles.

Although the party is somewhat atttempting to distance itself from appearing as the 'catholic party' it can't be denied that this connection may help us with winning over a majority catholic voting block. By promising to protect their rights and welfare as a minority group, we can consolidate control of the east, our voter heartland. Although cooperation with the Polish population may alienate our most right-wing supporters, they don't fit with the centre-left attitudes of our most prominent members and leadership anyway.

Q1 1921

Turn 5

EVENT:

Disaster has struck. The president of the republic fell quickly ill one day, and was dead the next. The doctors claim a heartattack. From the former control of the presidency by the SPD is now once again at an imbalance, and a new presidential election is to be held. For this, a special election based simply on popular vote will be held, and concluded in the middle of the turn, rather than being based on regional political control.

The British have managed negotiations with the French, pushing them to extend the limit of repayments to Q2 1923. The British, however, now wish to distance themselves from further negotiations with the Germans, as they wish to keep their international prestige, and not be seen helping the former enemy. The SPD remains in strong control of the western regions, as well as taking dominance in Schleswig-Holstein and remaining at a weak majority in Berlin. To assist them in regaining contrl of the economy and the steep inflation, a young promising economist by the name of Lothar Av Munckila is recruited, who has promised to help the goverment set industry on the right path. The DDP, however, has now begun refusing any and all cooperation with the SPD, as they feel betrayed that the SPD negotiated with the British, whereas the DDP would rather have wanted to appease the French more directly.

The DSP is gaining some control in the heart of Germany, but still struggles to keep dominance in the regions it holds. The DWN manages to secure the respect and help of several key industrialists in the Königsberg region, allowing them some further economical assitance for upcoming elections as well as any party projects. The printing house is purchased with a good half of the money raised from the industrialists, allowing for further propaganda being spread, and a strong party base of DWN established in Pommern and Ostpreussen. They start to gain some visibility in other parts of the country, but are still considered more of a regional force than anything. In Ostpreussen, a garde of more extremist supporters of the DWN start gathering in masses, chasing and beating down suspected communists and full-out members of the KPD where they can find them.

Zentrum holds campaign in its' strong areas. Silesia and the Polish border is very much under their "control", and they manage a sizeable minority in Bavaria and the surrounding regions. They have some difficulty gaining presence in Berlin and the Ruhr-Rhine areas, due to a percieved lack of political fervor.
>>
>>1202474
The SPD fears the charismatic Friedrich Gustav, and their campaigning becomes even more progress-focused to counter act his nostalgia laden rethoric. "Forwards, not Backwards" becomes the official slogan,

as they campaign in BERLIN (and Bavaria if that's also possible).

Additionally, parallels are drawn between the traditionalist DWN supporters that beat up innocent citizens and the state terror during the war is drawn in campaigns in the north of Germany.

The SPD calls for a meeting behnd closed doors with the DDP. The rest of last year's payments asa well as a good chunk of this year's payments can be made towards France in a show of loyality, if the DDP resumes coordination with the rest of the government.
In no uncertain terms, the refusal of that proposal is declared to result in an official mutual boykot.

Behind this, exact identity of the assassin and all his relations is ascertained.
>>
>>1202474

>>1202476
Our presidency candidate is, and I'll make this up, Heinrich Hoffstätter, a Bavarian lawyer and farmer's son. He is, I'll admit, not the biggest charisma balloon, but what he has is credibility both as a worker (farmer) and as an academic.

It's not great, but it's what we have right now.

Lothar Av Munckila is made head of a special committee for "reparation reductions and budget".

Meanwhile, the German government establishes relations with America to enter negotiations for small loans.
>>
>>1202481
>>1202476
The DDP reject the offer outright and fortwith, resuming their presidential campaign on grounds of attacking you for trying to scheme your way into tricking the allies, for refusing to cooperate with the goverment and for striking at the german economy with the subsidizing of factories.

The americans are very welcoming indeed, and offer to give you a loan of 12 billion marks, in return for letting american companies invest heavily in the north marinal industry of Germany.
>>
Gustav hears of the extremist party members rallying in Ostpreussen, and pushes to take control of the group, recruiting them, providing them with uniforms, and setting them to work as a private security force for the party. These men are equipped from the remaining funds of the party, while their officers are equipped in more ceremonial uniform, in the Prussian style.

The Sons of Prussia, as they have come to be known, are used to their full effect in East Prussia, Gustav accompanying himself with the most reasonable and tame of their number in fine uniform, while the remainder is set to work guarding party rallies, escorting party members, and fighting off communist interlopers. Gustav tries his utmost to ensure that the men know what they are fighting for, the defense of Germany and her Democracy against the depredations of the communists.

They are also encouraged to, alongside the rest of the party, administer public aid. With some of the remainder of the money raised by Gustav, bunk-houses are purchased throughout Pommern, Mecklenberg and East Prussia, with housing being offered to the local homeless in exchange for work in the Party's soup kitchens and in the maintenance of decaying infrastructure.

The men and women taken in at these bunkhouses are regularly visited by Gustav, and what members of the Sons of Prussia are present are accommodated as guards and watchmen for the small apartment complexes.

Gustav consistently espouses the success of the party in the establishment of these public houses, and the maintenance of local infrastructure in Speeches across the Baltic seaboard of Germany, calling for the good men and women of Germany to rise and rebuild, to join the party in their endeavors. This campaign is naturally accompanied by the mass printing of posters.
>>
>>1202486
Alright, then BREAKING NEW INFORMATION - the assasin was DDP backed! They, (egged on by the French, no doubt) took out that politician who was in the talks to be the successor to the old president, once he would leave office. They must have anticipated the presidency being vacated and got him out of the way. We don't say how they did, instead letting the people draw their own conclussions

We will consult Professor Munckila regarding the loan - what's his advice. Our main objective here is to make America want lower reparations for us in the future as our economies would be entangled.

An investigation is put in place regarding the legality of the Sons of Prussia (>>1202488) but the men sent to conduct it are expressly told to be fair, and that the objective of the investigation is genuinely in the interest of justice and not of the party.
>>
In response to the SPD, Gustav is cordial, speaking in Konigsberg and exhorting the SPD to work with him and the DWN in the maintenance of Public Aid in the fight against the communists. He calls on them to continue to support the liberty and democracy of the public, describing the communists as a "Threat to the liberty of the German people to prosper as they will", and lightly remonstrating them for being so fearful of Men who want nothing but Liberty. Gustav extends an invitation to meet with Heinrich Hoffstatter to discuss the issues of the country, and to allay the fears of the SPD.

The speech, while peaceful in it's intent and cordial in it's words, takes place at a rally of DWN supporters in Konigsberg, before being printed in the newspaper possessed by the DWN, under the headline "Gustav calls for Liberty"
>>
>>1202489
Proffessor Av Munckila advises you not to take the loan, due to the current booming economy of North America, who's investment in German industry would be a welcome relief. He does advise to lower the loan, however, from the 12 Billion marks to a lower 8 Billion marks, in order to not rely too heavily on loans to make repayments. The americans, as a result, would buy control of around 65% of the naval industry on the Baltic coast.
>>
>>1202491
Woops, that should be "To take the loan"*
>>
>>1202491
that is exactly what I had in mind. Good stuff. I will however try and lower the loan to have them control bellow 50% of it.

But if that's impossible in negotiations, I will budge for the 8 billion figure.
>>
>>1202493
An american loan of 6.6 Billion Marks is taken, set to be repaid by sometime 1925. The Americans also quickly buy up 46% of the baltic coast naval industry. Local workers are sacked en masse in the new foreign-controlled companies, with very few remaining and the local industry gaining increased competition between workers for work. Further impoverishment is caused along the Baltic sea coast line, much of which is appealing to the public who recieve generosity from the DWN

I'll try to wait for a few more party actions, and will then announce the results of the presidential election. I'm granting you all more time to campaign, plot or w/e until then, allowing an extra "turn" of actions.
>>
>>1202497
fock.

Well lets invest parts of the loan back into our part of the Baltic factories, and pay the still outstanding money for last year to France.
>>
OH yeah, since there seems to be some talking to be done about the Sons of Prussia. What's the consensus here? Illegal paramilitary or vital bodyguards with a humanitarian face?
>>
>>1202488
well, now with the poverty in the baltic, the SPD extends a hand to the DWN, promising to work with it to help the populous there.

Work for the people, not for the party.
>>
Fuck, I overslept.

In response to the cries for a public capitulation from the Spartacists, Thalheimer has no choice but to oblige.

>The revolution is at hand - the peaceful revolution. Instead of seeking to kill the fellow workers of Germany, Der Bayerische Spartakistenfront will seek to bring the liberation of the working class through the democratic system.

In response to the recently called election, August Thalheimer further solidifies his role as public leader of the Spartacists by running for the office for f President.

While he has no intention of winning, he uses this for recognition, now heavily campaigning in Bavaria. (Specifically 29 and 19.)
>>
>>1202503
Great, the SPD declares that it considers the Spartacists a legal competitor in Bavaria. Its extensive campaigns in the Bundesland attack the Spartacists only on issues, attempting a rather clean campaign.
>>
>>1202502
Friedrich Gustav is glad to work with the SPD, proclaiming in a speech that the DWN will not rest until the people of Germany may be returned to prosperity.

Gustav extends a request for government funds to be invested in factories in the regions of East Prussia, Pommern and Mecklenburg, requesting that management of this investment be passed to the DWN, all spending being approved by the SPD, of course, but managed by the DWN, who can likely get a better deal through local contacts.

In the meantime, Gustav sets to work on humanitarian projects, leading work crews of the Sons of Prussia and other party members to aid the now unemployed men and women of the baltic region (Specifically Mecklenburg and Pommern), calling on them to maintain their German pride, and to not give up hope.
>>
>>1202503
I'm really tired, forgot this.

Thalheimer begins a large propaganda campaign, often using images of a lone worker, striking a hydra with a hammer.

Each head as the name of "SPD, "DWN or "Zentrum" upon it. Text in bold lettering proclaims:

>RISE WORKERS - Fight for your future!

Along with the campaign, he uses a small chunk of party funds to begin public welfare campaigns, providing for housing for lower class residents of Munich and surrounding areas.
>>
Is Zentrum guy here? I'd like to hear his response to the presidential election.
>>
>>1202513

Ah, yeah, I'm here, give me a sec to read and catch up and I'll post in five.
>>
>>1202510
>Gustav extends a request for government funds to be invested in factories in the regions of East Prussia, Pommern and Mecklenburg, requesting that management of this investment be passed to the DWN, all spending being approved by the SPD, of course, but managed by the DWN, who can likely get a better deal through local contacts.

The SPD agrees to that with the funds I said >>1202499 here to invest in the baltic, if they agree to completely demilitarize the Sons of Prussia. The end of militias is high on the priority list of the SPD.

If they agree, there'd be a public meeting between Friedrich Gustav and the SPD leader (let's make him up too, Dietrich Erwinkel) with a symbolic handover of a cheque.
The decision of fund approval would then go through the committee for budget.
>>
>>1202513

Zentrum puts forward Matthis Erzberger as their presidential candidate. As an experienced politician and prominent government figure he can hopefully prove his competence. Although he was a signatory of the Treaty of Versailles, and so disliked by some for that, his centre-left policies and progressive policies towards negotiating sustainable reparations to the allies as well as a focus on German economy and infrastructure will hopefully appeal to the public.

As supporters of democracy and general decency, Zentrum condemns the Sons of Prussia as what they are, illegal paramilitary masquerading as a legitimate organisation. They must be reigned in by their party, or if that fails by the police.

Zentrum also speaks out against SPD actions resulting in foreign ownership of german industry and the worsening conditions for many german people. All parties should be concerned with the welfare of our new democratic state.
>>
>>1202515
Friedrich Gustav agrees to the proposal of the SPD, instructing the Sons of Prussia, in a deeply emotional and vigorous speech that, in order to ensure employment for the masses, they will have to sacrifice their weapons. In the pursuit of peace, the guardians must lay down their weapons of war, must beat their swords into Plowshares.

Gustav is then glad to meet Dietrich Erwinkel in a public meeting, greeting the man cordially, before asking him to pause before accepting the cheque. Gustav turns to the crowd, and thanks them for the constancy of their hard work, exhorting them to further exertions, before casting off his noble dress, throwing his coat down, rolling up his shirt sleeves in the manner of a worker, and accepting the cheque from the SPD.

Immediately setting to work, Gustav pursues several projects, no doubt having been previously planned.

Gustav's ambitious plan involves trade with Scandinavia and the Eastern European states, providing an alternative to soviet industry in Germany. Gustav asks permission from the SPD to travel to Sweden, the Baltic States, and Poland to negotiate trade deals.

If granted...

Gustav takes advantage of a comprehensive education, as a speaker of Polish and Swedish, alongside German, Latin and Hungarian to try to establish links with nearby powers in need of extra industry, seeking foreign investment through personal charisma and the promise of government subsidization. The most prominent part of this is establishing trade links with Polish Industrialists, offering to assist in the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged in the Soviet invasion.

Otherwise, the Party will suggest the establishment of new industrial settlements for veterans and the unemployed, building up local villages into small scale, managed industrial towns, working to provide everything from basic construction supplies (Needed in the recently invaded Poland) to domestic goods (Which, when cheaply produced, may provision the struggling German public)

Allright, the results are in.

Population: 62,411,000
Voters: 52,425,240
Turnout rate: 84%

Results:

Heinrich Hoffstätter (SPD) - 21,326,767
Matthis Erzberger (Zentrum) - 17,582,901
Hermann Dietrich (DDP) - 12,430,333
(DWN) - NO CANDIDATE
August Thalheimer (BS) - 723,493
Liam Hellmann (KPD) - 220,243
Alfred Löwe (BPP) - 121,503

The SPD gains the presidency, and remains in control. Below is a map of the current political climate, and if you'll excuse me I need to change computers and eat dinner before the next mupdate! I assumed DWN would not hold a candidate since no direct statement of such was held, and instead SPD gained most of the DWNs voter base as support, with a minority being spread out amongst the other candidates.
>>
>>1202530
Yeah, the DWN did not feel ready to attain the presidency, and as a sign of good faith, left their votes to go to their new friends in the SPD.
>>
>>1202530
Also, I think we can all celebrate the lack of KPD success.
>>
>>1202530
Encouraged by the results in the election, Thalheimer begins to broaden his Bavarian reach and goes on a speaking tour through Niederbayern-Oberpfalz, harshly attacking the DDP and Dietrich's policies.

>The fact of the matter is that Dietrich and his acquaintances at the DDP have no desire to help you. They have no wish to see you live good, fulfilling lives. They wish to use you. Trick you. Abuse your trust so they can propagate their wealth.

>I see beyond that. I see the troubled masses, the men and women worried about where their country is going. I see the poor masses, being trampled underfoot by the bourgeoisie. I see the trouble, I see the suffering, and I wish to help.

Along with this, Thalheimer continues his propaganda push throughout the Munich area, trying to secure his base.
>>
>>1202530

Zentrum proposes a political alliance with the DDP. Both are quite central parties on the political spectrum, so can find common ground. By avoiding any large scale campaigning in areas dominated by each other we can avoid wasting our funds or allowing openings for our common enemies in more extreme parties. Both Zentrum and DDP support renegotiation of Versailles reparations, and both are unhappy with SPD actions on this front recently.

With the sort of votes seen in the presidential elections, it may be possible for a Zentrum/DDP coalition to take power in the next elections.
>>

The chairman of the DDP is sympathetic to this, and sees an opportunity to gain back a foothold amongst vaning support with the populace.

He demands, however, that you join his boycott of the SPD in the reichstag, effectively crippling them from major action and changes. If the parties jointly push it, you could even effectively call a reelection.
>>
Does this count as a new turn? I can't do any more industrial work without the SPD approving them, but I can do some campaigning. If there's anything Friedrich Gustav is good at, it's campaigning.
>>
>>1202546
Yup, I'm counting it as a new turn. A.k.a: Do your stuff. I'll get the next mupdate in soon though, so try to be quick.
>>
While Gustav works at industrial deals, the Party printing presses go into overdrive, producing several entirely new sets of propaganda posters, and setting about distributing them, alongside leaflets and party manifestos in Breslau and Oppeln, the party maintaining close ties to it's eastern, Prussian roots. The standard humanitarian efforts are also undertaken.
>>
>>1202547
Alright, I expected Lother to evaluate the DWN's proposal in the next update.

>>1202546
Without that, I will be cautious and ask you to stay as domestic as possible right now.

Your second proposal, the industrial settlement, is what is approved instead.

>>1202530
The SPD campaigns in Münster and Hannover. DDP are painted as a deliberate wench in the country - they are only on the look out for themselves, not the country, and that is why they don't contribute in the governemnt, but instead simply stall. The assasination is brought up again.

Investments are made in health and unemployments benefits.

Another committee is established, one to draft up a rewrite of the versailles treaty to propose to France.

A representative of Zentrum is invited (>>1202539), however expressely nobody from DDP.
>>
>>1202547
Thalheimer pushes to other territories in Bavaria, continuing his speaking tour, now moving to Franken.

The Party begins construction of an official headquarters in Munich, as a way to manage affairs of the party and lend it a legitimacy other small parties lack.

Taking cues from the DWN, the BS apply for a government grant to begin outreach to the rural sections of Bavaria, providing subsidies to the farmers of the region, and for providing food and housing for small parts of the rural poor.

>Taking cues from the DWN, the BS apply for a government grant to begin outreach to the rural sections of Bavaria, providing subsidies to the farmers of the region, and for providing food and housing for small parts of the rural poor.

Not sure if that's up to the SPD to grant?
OP? >>1202530
>>
>>1202559
Govermental grants require a simple majority in the Reichstag (which the SPD holds), if it was something of a more major character, the reichstag would have to have atleast 70% in favor.
>>
>>1202563
So, do I get those sweet sweet Deutschmarks?
>>
>>1202563
>>1202556
Alright. Well, I've committed to noncyclical spending, so the BS gets a small grant under the title "Social Democratic farmer's aid" with the explicit purpose of aiding the small farmers in the region.

Transactions will have to be approved by the committee of budget under Lothar, as per the deal with the DWN.
The BS also have to agree to use the money under pro-social democratic messages, as a sort of honesty-clause in the contract.
>>
>>1202530
The KfD, disturbed by the liberal parties getting elected, starts to run grass-roots campaigns in Bavaria and Eastern Germany. We act as a populist movement to former royalists and average citizens who feel betrayed or dissatisfied with the new republic.

also, sorry i've not been on. thought it would take longer for the QM to get back.

>>1202567
The BS strongly disapproves of the social democratic message clause, but agrees to the deal.

Q2 1921

Turn 6

In the wake of the election and the results of the campaigning, changes have been made. The creation of a foreign-owned naval industry in the north of Germany has led to a rampant increase of poverty and squalor, with smaller local industries being pushed out by the vast economic power of the american industrial machine. The naval working class here feels betrayed by the SPD, causing many to doubt their loyalties and shift towards the DWN. However, some feel betrayed here too, as the DWN has made agreements with the SPD, causing what would otherwise be a total political dominance of the DWN to ebb away into a light majority in the regions it holds. Support for the DWN is still almost of extremist levels in Ostpreussen, however.

The vaning support of the DDP, as well as the attack on all fronts from other parties causes them to lose certain electoral regions. They issue a campaign in the Rhineland calling for "sanity" and "moderation".

The BS in Bavaria rises in the power of local support, speaking words that sound sweet to a populace which is increasingly politically confused and driven to potential extremism. However, a new threat to the BS power in Bavaria has risen. A small local party, known as the NSDAP, is rising in popularity as what can only be likened to an explosion. They manage to pull a fair few of the disillusioned from a vast variety of classes, including a few from the traditionally leftist worker class. Rumors speak of them even dealing in violence at some of their speeches, at which members of the BS has been seen walking out battered and bruised after raising their voices. When pressed for details in a local newspaper, a spokesperson for the party has explained away the situation as "The violence of the bolshevist jew countered with defense. They did the same a few years ago, but we are atleast only defending ourselves".

The Zentrum control of the Silesian region is still established. The people here are traditionalists, if anything, and hold hard to their beliefs as of the current moment, offering a strong ground and base for Zentrum. The campaigns by the DWN in the area are met with very little response.

A party calling for a return of the monarchy, the KfD is rising in the east as well, though with very minor support so far. They find their base in some of the more loyalist base of voters in the east, and some of the old Prussian aristocracy. They also gain limited prominence in the areas currently under political control of the DWN.

>Continue to support the naval industry that remains in German hands.
This can go even so far as to buy out some of those failing factories you've talked about. Having more production in the hand of the state means more non-monetary value to redistribute
>>
Thalheimer uses the rising NSDAP as an easy opportunity to solidify his bases in the regions under his control.

Using a large number of party members and sympathizes, he begins a widescale show of Spartacist strength throughout Bavaria.

Thalheimer begins a large parade in Munich, waving the red banners of the party and the German tricolor, so to not upset the SPD.

Thalheimer also begins applying for the beginning use of his grant to the SPD, seeking to use it in Northwestern Bavaria, where some of the workers have been hit the hardest.

The assembled committee is brought before you, and you see them for who they are. They're all young, frightened boys in suits to big for themselves, almost weeping and wetting themselves in fright of presenting their work.

"We see the negotiations with the French as somewhat tied at the moment, they will barely speak to us. They were enraged when we suggested renegotiations, but we've drafted a plan in which we would be given lee-way until 1924 in exchange for granting France military presence in the demilitarized Rhineland. The new president in power has forsaken our workers by selling out to the united states, we need to use that money to help our people.

Otherwise, campaigning in thuringia will continue as ussual, attemting to get more people involved in government and passing fiscal reform to make state linked and supported banks with a wide range of possible loans. And most importantly using the intrest to invest in local community projects.

Event for the DWN:

It's late one saturday night, and the workers are soon to go home from the printing press. Friedrich Gustav is inspecting the work with two of his advisors when a man in a grey suit walks up to them.

"Friedrich Gustav? My name is Walker. I come with an offer. We've heard of your sons of Prussia. Demilitarised lot, 'eh? Look, we know you're looking to get a strong party base and a strong... wing... if things go sour. We have these new model medium tanks, called Vickers Medium Mark I. My company happens to have gained a hold of 2 of them. We have no use for them, obviously, but we have an offer for you. Give us your industrial posessions in Pommern, a certain modestly successfull machining company. Let's make a deal. You give us control of the machining company, and we'll give you the Tanks and 3 men who can instruct you in their use. What do you say?"

My bad there. Had to go out and do some stuff. I'll make an effort to keep more on top of things.

Erzberger and his Zentrum leadership have a plan to centralise the german fiscal system, eliminating the last of the old national divides and feudal relics of the holy roman empire. The strengthening of the German government's finances is crucial to both German and foreign interests.

As to French propositions: We reject the idea of French occupation of our territory. This would only weaken us, making us less able to pay their reparations, which are already damaging to us. Any delay or reduction in the reparations will in the long term benefit both nations. On economic grounds (as idealistic ones are unlikely to sway them) we attempt to argue for more leniency.

Also going way back to this bit:

>>1202603
Friedrich Gustav is no fool. Two tanks, while advanced ones, are not going to swing the political climate of the country. Gustav responds kindly, but declines the offer, committed to the demilitarization of politics. Gustav refuses to bargain as a strongman, and has no desire to see good Germans unemployed for the sake of a pair of metal boxes.

The political atmosphere in DWN held areas is troubling to Gustav, and a drastic measure is needed. The printing presses of the party call for new employees, and search for the permits to remain open all hours, as a new wave of campaigning begins, all across the Baltic coast. Gustav decrees that every street corner shall bear a poster, and that he will not rest until he has informed the people of his purpose.

Party branch-houses are established across the Baltic sea-board, and all resources in Silesia are redirected to the shakily held territories of Schleswig, Pommern and Mecklenberg. Gustav works from dawn until dusk at his campaigns, traveling constantly and making his characteristic speeches in every city and town he passes.

Party Bunk houses are established more widely in Schleswig and Pommern, and soup kitchens are established more widely, along with further humanitarian aid. To finance this expansion, Gustav spends what evenings he does not spend leading rallies, raising funds among the remaining German industrialists in the region, showing them the plans for expanded industrial settlements, approved and subsidized by the government, and asking, in exchange for preference in these Neuestadte, for funding for the DWN. In this way, Gustav raises funds for the party, ensures lowered cost for the Neuestadte, and does not break the agreement with the SDP.

Gustav is supported by Heinrich Knecht, his second in command, so to speak, in the Party, and an Industry magnate himself, brought in early in the fundraising process. Knecht sets about putting into place, with government subsidization, the Neuestadte, purchasing open land, subsidizing investment in these new towns, and inviting the unemployed in the cities to these new industrial settlements, where work should be plentiful.
>>
Yeah, QM, You're really good, I'm having a great time.
>>
>>1202630

Destructive input? No, we merely want to halt the poorly thought out policies which have so badly affected our coastal regions. Should you discuss such far reaching decisions with the other major parties first, and we come to some sort of agreement, we'd have no reason to block your actions.
>>
>>1202649
it's destructive by nature, that's not a value judgement, that's what negating a proposal is, in contrast to a productive input which is giving a proposal. That proposal could be shit, but it would still be productive in nature.

The comment was aimed at the public anyways, so its truth value isn't that much of an issue.

And as Zentrum seems completely disinterested in any cooperation, and only here to lament the hard decisions the government of an ailing nation must make, one dreads to think what a total stillstand said government would have come to, had it actually consulted the party.

Q1 1922

Amidst the tensions in Bavaria, fighting breaks out daily in the streets of München. It seems as if the whole south of Germany is divided between the extremists of the BS and the NSDAP. The BS also gains a limited amount of support in Schleswig-Holstein, but no majority base as of yet. The disgruntled workers here are allready as extremist and desperate as the ones in the south, but without any trace of arming. A man in a grey suit approaches a local leader for the BS in Schleswig-Holstein with a deal for tanks...

The SPD is gaining support in Hannover, but their base voters in the Rhineland are dwindling, approaching more the Zentrum and the promises of the DSP. The goverment is in a state of dissarray, barely able to do anything. The boycott between parties (DDP & Zentrum VS SPD) has left the goverment paralysed, and support for each party dwindles lightly, but not a lot eventually. The party bases of each party is, eventually, strenghten amongst the parties, as they all base propaganda on accusing their opponents for not being cooperative, leading to determined resistance from every way.

The DWN are strengthening their hold in Pommern with their new public outreach campaigns, but their industry is slowly being pushed out of the market by the American-run buisnessess. The "burgher" class of citizens also dissaprove of the buying out of german industry in the north by the goverment, even though this for now has saved many a factories from total annhialation.

The KfD is gaining some support in the heart and east of Germany, surprisingly enough also gaining a large base of voters in Berlin, though the SPD still holds the city under their support. Some call for the resurgence of the house of Hohenzollern under the leadership of the former crown prince Wilhelm Von Hohenzollern, who himself has publicly voiced support for both the KfD and the DWN. He is known as somewhat of a controversial figure, occasionally feauturing in tabloids and not being a stranger to hardline political views. He might need to be managed, somehow.

In Thüringia, the new figure of the DSP (Maynard Goldmann) is rising to prominence, though not yet securing a majority support but raising a very vocal minority.

Event:

23rd of February, 1922, the DDP are arguing for a change in law that would effectively halt the american purchasing of industries in the north (still currently underway), and secure hefty sums of money from the established foreign-owned companies there. They have the support of some minor parties in the Reichstag. However, due to the current locked situation of the Reichstag, the decision must pass by atleast a 70% majority, due to it affecting a minor section of the constitution. This majority cannot be achieved without the help of the SPD, even if the DDP&Zentrum managed to secure the remaining minor parties. Were they to fail in the pushing of the law, the DDP could decide to perform a "walk-out", which if supported by the Zentrum and (cont).
>>
>>1202664
(cont)

... atleast a few of the minor parties would effectively lead to a disbandonment of the Reichstag, and a forced reelection thereof. The DDP will not shake in their fervor, even though their supporterbase is dwindling. All parties feel free to react in what measures you can to the situation.
>>
>>1202664
>>1202666
I should also mention, since there was a presidential election, the new SPD president is able (but not required) to appoint a new chancellor if possible. The previous chancellor is a dutiful SPD figurehead with little opinions of his own, but serving as an appropriate figurehead for the older part of the party.
>>
>>1202664
campaign in Würtenberg, Baden and Hannover, with a campaign riding on the opposition parties tying our hands. We say we have seccured both British as well as American help in the matter of the treaty of Versailles, we are funneling money into the German economy and redistributing it.

The worker is our top priority.

>event reaction
I will withhold this until I've seen at least the reaction of the Zentrum.

We will dispatch troops into Bavaria to supplement the police. All protests and rallies are to be scheduled with the authorities or are subject to raids.
>>
>>1202673
also, can I get in touch with the American foreign minister on the matter of that discussed bill? How would it affect relations?
>>
>>1202664
Thalheimer rebukes the mans offer for tanks, despite the temptation for fighting back the NSDAP. However, he comes up with a more diplomatic strategy.

>A message is sent Dietrich Erwinkel offering the aid and support of the Spartacists and exchange for a crackdown on the upstart NSDAP. In the upcoming battle between the Zentrum, Thalheimer offers his support.

Propaganda leaflets fly in Bavaria (Province 21) decrying the NSDAP and the grace of the BS, hoping to finally bring all of Bavaria into the fold.

Thalheimer begins a small poster campaign in Schleswig-Holstein to garner a small support group outside of his core provinces.
>>
>>1202664
Easy solution. The Kronprinz is 40, he is his own man. Try to convince him to be more moderate and keep a slightly lower profile to ensure that the party is able to operate. Increase campaigning in Berlin, drawing funds from anyone willing to donate.
>>
>>1202678
The Americans are disgusted at the thought of effectively tearing the deal up in their face. If they were to lose their right to keep buying north German buisness, they would demand the immedeate repayment of the loan + interest of 300 million marks. Money that Germany barely has.
>>
>>1202664
Maynard will travel to berlin to hold a rally there, condeming some small nuances in policy that the Reichstag has proposed and passed. He then argues that the socialistic dogma will not completly heal the nation, the excessive spending without legitimate cooperation may help the german people but inevitably stunt Germany's growth. On the recent proposal he will speak of the injustices done to german workers and praise the government's efforts to correct the issue. However he advocates for slighlty more leniant terms, as taxing these corperations instead of perhaps forcing them to employ a wider range of german workers would have negative long term effects in both trade and foreign realations. Even the docks would need to be rebiult with german money if they were abandoned by American negligence. He also argues for hus prefered method of central banking, and will read his statistical results from thuringia and the successes that this system has brought, mentioning that coming from a family of bankers, the current fiscal structure of the country is both ludicrous and inefficient. He also calls for legal protests, and for the government to act as an intermediary between protesters and their targets.

After his speach he will come down to the people with his supporters and try to do some public service by cleaning the streets of berlin and shaking hands with the mayor of berlin.

The party as a whole will then try to at least organize one club or official group of supporters within every province of germany, however small, so that sympathizers may have an outlet to engage in their favored political party.
>>
>>1202680
The SPD Heimwehrs in Bavaria will make a special exception to also take on Spartacists but at the full discretion of the Heimwher leaders. No Heimwehr that does not want to take Spartacists will be forced to.

>>1202685
Then my reaction is reading the response out in the Reichstag. Insisting on the necessity of the loans in the first place. Pointing towards the repeated attempts of France to occupy the Rhineland with 'deals'. Point towards money going into the economy though Pommerania. Promise buy outs of failing plants for a fraction of a fraction of what we'd lose if the law goes through. Point at the already undertaken infrastructure projects in North Germany.

Declare this whole thing a witch hunt based on term-to-term thinking in the midst of a generation spanning rebuilding process.

A fine mess. Well, regardless of who considers it who's fault, I think Zentrum and the SPD can agree that the current situation isn't viable.

On the one hand, the DDP's approach is somewhat confrontational with the USA, who could be a helpful party in negotiating with France. We don't really want to seize American assets. On the other hand, the employment and economic issues brought about by the actions of American companies, brought in due to the SPD are also unacceptable in their current form.

Zentrum isn't opposed to reaching an agreement with the SPD, but would require guarantees that the situation in the north not be repeated with other areas and industries.

Oh, the American response just came through.

Well, that doesn't look promising. Now its done, it looks like we'll have to live with the situation in the north. In light of this, the DDP could do more damage than the SPD have done so far, as the USA is key to putting pressure on France for more lenient terms in the future.

In that case, Zentrum will agree to break the deadlock in parliament only if our leader, Matthis Erzberger, be made the new chancellor after the recent election, and we govern beside the SPD in order to have input on any future deals of this nature, or any other nature for that matter.

Would you agree to those conditions?
>>
>>1202702
In a meeting between Zentrum and DDP officials, the DDP are outraged at the supposed "betrayal" of the Zentrum. The DDP proclaims the nation morally bankrupt and left to doom itself in the pits of extremism, threatening to rupture any deals with Zentrum previously made.
>>
>>1202702
>Zentrum isn't opposed to reaching an agreement with the SPD, but would require guarantees that the situation in the north not be repeated with other areas and industries.

you can have that goddamn guarantee. This deal with the devil was necessary to get in with the Americans, but it was a mess for workers.

The SPD will agree on a Zentrum chancelor, but they ask you to propose a less iconic figure than the presidential candidate Erzberger. Do you have another, less politically charged man to propose?
>>
>>1202711
Juicy
>>
>>1202702
>>1202715
oh, and to the promise of a coalition, the SPD makes a promise to engage in negotiations after the next election. A flat out promise would of course be dishonest, as there are certain issues a party can't simply abandon.
>>
>>1202711

Zentrum counters that the nation cannot be destroyed, a compromise must be found despite any previous deals. It also notes that the appropriation of foreign owned companies is far more a sign of extremism than anything Zentrum has done.

>>1202715
>>1202722

In that Joseph Wirth. A close political ally of Erzberger, but not a man directly involved in the Versailles treaty or any other such high profile events. Would that be more acceptable?

Given the current situation, only a coalition currently could provide stable government. Unless we two cooperate, a similar deadlock could arise of SPD vs DDP and Zentrum. A coalition is the only real option for political stability unless we hold an election now and one party can gain a majority.
>>
Oh DWN, where art thou?
>>
>>1202735
Joseph Wirth is acceptable. Dietrich Erwinkel invites him to a meeting with Erwinkel and Hoffstätter to understand the man and to ensure a clear cooperation.

and yes, with "entering negotiations" I mean we agree to a coalition, but we hold the right to refuse in extreme cases.

So Wirth will be made chancellor after the next elections, yes? Is that the plan?
>>
>>1202664

For the turns general campaigning, Zentrum will focus on the Rhineland, where our support is increasing. As an area with major industries, we will promise protection from the events in the shipping industry (and remind people the SPD masterminded that disaster, obviously), while also promise to avoid increasing government ownership as the DWN are proposing. This should appeal both to the business owning upper and middle class and to the workers of the lower class.

As most of the Rhineland is majority Catholic that should also play in our favour in this area, though of course we are not a Catholic party anymore, we accept and represent all religions.
>>
>>1202747

Well, yes, obviously should the political situation have any major shifts then both sides will have to reevaluate. It's just for the time being I think we have more to gain through cooperation.

Seeing as we've just had an election, it wouldn't be unreasonable for the new president to nominate Wirth as his chancellor immediately. As noted here:
>>1202673

Though on that note, when would the next election be? What is the standard term between them in Germany in this period?
>>
>>1202759
alright, as a sign of trust, Wirth will be made chancelor already next quarter.
>>
>>1202759
so seeing as Zentrum is goddamn diverse, what's Wirth's political compass?
>>
>>1202759
I actually don't know the standard length until elections, but I decided to hold it at every 4th year, and presidential elections every 6th (both cases barring special cases)
>>
>>1202769
>>1202759
So next election (federal, assuming no specialities) will be in Q1 1923
>>
>>1202766

He's centre-left, like most of the party leader's close associates. He wants to renetotiate the Versailles repayments to a more managable system that will work for both Germany and France, as well as for economic and legal reform to cement the new democratic system in Germany and get rid of the remains of the older Imperial system.

He's a good example of the direction I've been guiding the party in as a player and of the majority of its more influential members in this period IRL.

>>1202769
>>1202772

Thanks.
>>
>>1202783
Sounds like a grade A chancellor.
>>
The DWN isn't in the Reichstag yet, are they? The DWN does however oppose further American investment, and vehemently refuses to sell any of it's possessions to the Americans, encouraging their donors to do similarly. With the industrial side of DWN not succeeding, it begins to use the fund available to purchase land, renting it out cheaply to private individuals for use in small scale farming, allowing the private owners to sell their produce back to the DWN for use in soup kitchens and humanitarian efforts.

With a business agenda set, the DWN returns to it's constant campaigning, attempting to appeal to the traditionalists in Oppeln more directly, with tailored propaganda. The aristocratic classes on the Baltic seaboard are appealed to for their continued support, with Gustav appealing to their honour and cultural history, fighting back the monarchists.
>>
In response to the monarchist question, the DWN appeal to Wilhelm to recognize the legitimacy of a democratic government, to see the benefits of Liberty for his people.

Q2 1922

The city of Berlin is currently divided. A good 30% of the city have a newfound appreciation for the DSP, whilst 25% have been confirmed supporters of the KfD. The rest of the city is divided between other parties, but for now there is increasing attempts to secure the city with propaganda from both directions, neither making a decisive public victory.

In the spirit of the shifting political allignments, the Rhineland has lost its' confidence in the SPD. Due mostly to the supposed abandonment of support for the industrial sector, they fear the same fate as the North. Schleswig-Holstein, has reappared with a bare minmum required for majority support of the SPD. In Bavaria, the NSDAP spouts propaganda proclaiming their members martyrs, silenced by an oppressive jewish-marxist goverment that works together with the same revolutionaries that stabbed Germany in the back and left her weakened to the disastrous injustice of Versaille. Zentrum is losing support in the heartland to a myrriad of NSDAP and DNW supporters, as well as a hefty mix of BS-members. The DDP still clings to some of their former core support territories, but due to the fiasco that is their boycott this is now dwindlig quickly. They are losing public face, but still refuse to cooperate with a "goverment without care for the freedom of the German people and the German workers".

Kronprinz Wilhelm is seen publicly retiring to a life of relaxed living with horse-riding, fine dining and civilised behavior. Though, not before announcing his membership of the KfD, swaying some more traditionalist and monarchial public opinion.

The suggested law by the DDP is shut down, and the American investors breathe a sigh of relief. The DDP are forced to remain without the "walk-out" they had wished for, which would only destroy their face further.

Next turn elections will be held. With the fractured state of German politics, it would seem unlikely that any one party would gain a clear majority (<50%) in the election. Nonetheless, now would be the time for making the final moves to attempt to secure the seats in the Reichstag before the election next turn. The election will be held mid-turn, so you'll have a chance to act before the actual event as well.
>>
>>1202822
Attempt to sway the Kronprinz to leave exile in the Netherlands to come to Berlin to deliver a fiery speech. Elevate Wilhelm to an important position in the party, maybe even make him a new role. Meanwhile, attempt to sway more public opinion in Berlin and Brandenburg. Keep a light focus on Bavaria and East Prussia.
>>
>>1202822
holy hell.

well my first action is to put Wirth as chancellor.

The SPD makes a great push in Berlin. Soup kitchens are put up, the unions are mobilized, and poster campaigns line the streets - Forward with the SPD. - again with the implication of falling back into war-time Germany.
>>

>>1202822
Really I think the only way to aquire more clout as of now for the party is to just hang up more posters, use the clubs and meet up groups we gave developed throughout germany to post pictures depicting a starving german standing on the rhineland holding back a french soldier pointing a weapon across the border with one hand and a large bag of money pushed pushed by a german official with another. With a caption on the bottom: 'How can we stop injustice such as this? Reperations are a matter of life and death to the people, the german government needs to stop being held hostage! Organize yourselves! The people!' At the very end give contact information directed to the provincial clubs that held up the posters.

This will basically be a push for defensive doctrine and a pushback against the entante and the unfair reperations imposed upon germany.

Maynard will tour the rhineland, holding speeches at cities and towns such as cologne, saying that the people need to orginize for their sake, so they can stop german funds leaving the border and use those funds to help the people of the rhineland and everyone else in germany. Explicitly state that an equal playing field for germand in foreign affairs is crucial, and that the current government is only emplacing short term solutions to long term problems. The entire point being pushed as a kind of 'responsible revanchism' focusing on securing the defense and well being of germany and her people.

He will then meet with the officials with these centers, discussing fiscal reform as ussual, and pointing to the statistics used in the berlin rally as point in case for implimentation on a local level.
>>
>>1202858
Sure! Be warned though, it might be very difficult to start new parties at this point in time, I think the system is fractured enough with everyone fighting for every territory :D

The Spartacist once again begin a series of campaigns in Southern Bavaria, seeking to regain the majority from the NSDAP. Propaganda is spread throughout the province, depicting a worker beating back a horde of Nazis, with stark text reading:

>UNITE, AND DESTROY YOUR OPPRESSORS

Thalheimer, leading a rally in Munich, stands in front of a mixed crowd of Nazis, Undetermined voters and Spartacists, and begins a vitriolic speech.

>What have we done since the people brought us into power? We've saved Bavarian agriculture from destruction. We've beaten back the bourgeoisie DDP. We've brought wealth and money to the suffering through our Bavaria. We've brought change. We've brought relief.

>What have the Nazis done since they rose out of the gutter? They've killed naught but the defenseless, the common man. They've killed the poor and weak. They've saved the rich who oppress you, and they do nothing against the foreign powers conspiring against us. They're fighting for the soul of Bavaria itself, attempting to plunge it into ruin.

Boo's come from the Nazi crowd.

>Yet, it is not too late. The NSDAP are black-hearted, evil men who seek to destroy this great land. Stand in solidarity with us! Save your homeland! Rise like Spartacus! Rise with the Spartacists!

The boo's grow louder, only to be slowly drowned out by the Spartacist crowd. They've begun rising in song, the sound of Der Solidaritätslied echoing across the crowd.

The next day, Thalheimer proclaims the rally as a huge victory, the Nazi's beat by the strength of the Spartacists.
>>
>>1202867
the SPD aids the Spartacists in south Bavaria specifically with shows of solidarity.

Harsh police enforcement with the aid of the military keeps the Nazi and Communist rallies peaceful.

Silent support for Anchluss
Supporting left wing economics in Germny

Let start with a campaign in Munich, although we have limited resources as a new party we need to hang poster in Munich showing the following:
A caricature of Bismarck attacking a Catholic church.and a catholic priest with a shiweld with flag of Bavaria on it protecting it.At the bottom of the poster there should be a writing o nit saying:
DO NOT FORGET THE KULTURKAMPF

Zentrum, DNW, you guys are big actors, if you're here please do something so we can hold the elections.
>>
>>1202919

Just writing my post.
>>
>>1202822

Zentrum plays off their success in having Wirth made chancellor, and portray themselves as grand compromisers, navigating between the SPD and DDP.

Campaigning in the heartlands of Silesia is renouncing ideas of anti-semitism, racism in general, and militarism. Tolerance and liberty are the hallmarks of the new age. The Polish population will hopefully rally behind us in the face of these less tolerant parties as well.

We also encourage the police to crack down on the actions on more militant nazis.

In the Rhineland we continue to portray ourselves as a sensible moderate, protecting German industry and workers from both foreign and domestic threats, and on the sly playing off our parties sympathy with the local catholic population.

>>1202868

We're concerned by both Communists and Fascists here, and politely urge you not to support the Spartacists.

Election results:

Voters: 57,418,120
Turnout rate: 92%

Achieved seats:

SPD - 39 Seats
Zentrum - 37 Seats
DDP - 19 Seats
DNW - 15 Seats
KfP - 21 Seats
DSP - 9 Seats
BS - 5 Seats
NSDAP - 5 Seats

Ladies and gentlemen, this goverment is fractured. The NSDAP barely managed to score a victory in Bavaria over the BS, but it was enough to gain a foothold. Berlin also seems to have been completely won over by monarchistic fervor. This will count as a turn, which menas you get to do actions and so on until I get the next Q mupdate.
>>
>>1207378
Oh also, every party that got into goverment gets to make an announcement detailing their leading promise for this term in the Reichstag, what they will achieve so to say.
>>
>>1207378
honestly surprised about my good enough result.

An antimonarchist campaign is started or continued in Berlin, with continued fervor. The city is full of veterans and young people - and the Emperor is painted as the wrongful perpetrator of the crime that is the war, and the monarchists are painted as the traditionalists that they are, that restrict the freedoms of women and free spirits.

I will dutifully enter in a coalition with Zentrum, and once we have talked about that, we shall give a joint proclamation of the goals of the government as such.

But the SPD itself gives as promise:

"Forwards - Not Backwards.
The German people shall see the wealth. Workers and farmers shall recieve the proper pay and benefits. We advocate a minimum wage and a stronger health care.
The industrial sector is not forgotten. Both in the west and in the north, the government has bought out factories - it will continue to run them for the interest of the worker, and with the material output, we will always have resources to distribute, come inflation or crash.
Peace. The SPD has brought peace to a country that was stooped in inner strife. All but Bavaria is now peaceful, bar any militias. Bavaria shall follow.
Progress. This will happen under the principle of equality. We will not fall back into the feudal system of old, where the royals had everything, and the people had nothing."
>>
>>1207411
The soup kitchens in Berlin will stay even after the elections, but the unions of course will not be strained any more - they have their own shit to do.
>>
>>1207378

Maynard will host an open debate in a berlin community house, where esteemed representatives and trustees from all walks of life and any provence can attend to attempt and hold their position on what the future progress of germany should look like. In the opening statements he will state as the delegated figurehead of the DSP, he will fight for all the main issues the DSP has tried to fight for and has succeded fighting for in addition to heeding the council of this debate, and to change and comprimise accordingly. However, centrilization and more involvment both ways in the government be the pre arranged goal of the party.

Naturally the debate will be fully publicised across germany using party resources

The debate gathers people from a wide host of different parties, positions and walks of life. At first, when discussing the basic infrastructural policy, the crowd is simply bored to tears and little heat is in fact brought. In only takes one mention of the versaille treaty, however, to throw this out of the window. Before anyone can say otherwise, someone has shouted about judeo-marxist conspiracies, and the debate is in full upproar. People are fighting hand to hand and beating each other senseless whilst screaming insane abuses, at a backdrop of a leading member of DSP desperately attempting to return order to the conversation from his speaking chair.

This whole event has been recorded for radio transmission, and for a price can be transmitted on a nation-wide radio channel.
>>

speaking of things with rolls, can I have Hoffstätter make a big public speech in Berlin, making the case against monarchy?

Feel free to try, but Berlin is quite in monarchistic fervor after the latest election. I wouldn't lose all hope though. If you want to do it, write the speech and I'll see what I should have you roll. Also, if KfD is here, he can feel free to write a response speech if he feels like it.

>>
>>1207612
Alright. There will be flyers given out, and Heimwehr members in cognito will attend the gathering in addition to a moderate police showing, to make sure nothing like >>1207582 happens.

"People of Berlin, Germans, Citizens, Workers.
We have exited a time of hardship, and we are slowly entering a new era of prosperity. Democracy has brought relative stability to a country torn by revolutions and war. The production of German industry is up, prosperity on the rise. The times are indeed changing.

There are some who think that we must go back to the system that has plunged this nation into war - The Empire, which has brought itself to its knees, that has torn German soil from itself through arrogance and high class egoism. These men have shown their incompetency in plunging the nation into war, in the way they conducted the war and in how they have treated the common people, resulting in the poverty that we are currently in best efforts to amend. The one thing they are competent in, is representing themselves as something greater than they are - as something noble, something divine. Yet do their acts show anything of the sort?
No, only empty words and frivolous pomp is to be expected from the aristocracy. The culture of our heart city Berlin, that has developed through cultural discourse with America and innovation and progress within Germany they would rather cut down to once more only host operas for the well born, to keep the streets closed at night - as they were under the Emperor - and to have all the money flow into the pockets of the few.

I am the head of state, elected more directely than any other before, by the people, not even by the parliament legitimized by the people. I have a direct responsibility to you, the people, and it is in my interest to serve you, as you are the cause of my station.
The Emperor, in contrast, has only a responsibility to himself, and he has only an interest to harm you as it helps him. And that he does. Veterans, you have felt the Emperor's scorn. Students, pray that you wont. Workers, men, women, citizens, vote in your own interest."
>>
>>1207648
Good speech. I'll wait to see if KfD wants to give a response speech, and then this can get really interesting.
>>
>>1207648
>Democracy has brought relative stability to a country torn by revolutions and war

>>
>>1207653
sure that happened, and there's shit going on in Bavaria as well, but there are no militias running around anymore, there is an active police force and there are no foreign soldiers on our soil.

Just because the DSP can't hold their people at their rallies in check, the SPD makes clear, doesn't mean that there are any revolts going on.
>>
>>1207657
Ah so the DSP is responsible for other people's radical ideals and immaturity? Hmm yeah that adds up
>>
>>1207669
The DSP is responsible for what happens at its rallies, SPD officials state. It is telling that Berlin is far away from the violence that is currently being dealt with in Bavaria, yet somehow the DSP manages to incite more aggression by intentionally mingling extremists of all sides to aid their agenda.

The DSP has been shown to have no grip over its followers and is not to be trusted by the common man interested in peace and equality.

>>
>>1207675

>>
>>1207685
Again, attacks that serve nothing but to entice aggression as it aids the DSP. The SPD has good relations with almost all moderate parties - From Zenturm to DWN. It invites and encourages Democracy in all its aspects.

It only serves the DSP to paint the SPD as extremists, as they want violence to speak against it. This is why they paint the SPD as extremists and anti democratic with nothing to back it up.
>>
>>1207696
Why paint a lie with a speech than? Why pretend our debate never happened? Why then, would the SPD, majority party, accuse the little guy of diluting their authority with an unrelated debocle? >>

The DWN (Please, QM, It's DWN, not DNW) manifesto is a simple one, in the aftermath of their sudden success in the Reichstag. Friedrich Gustav travels around the Baltic Coast and the Eastern Border, pledging to maintain humanitarian efforts supporting the poor and unemployed, and pushing for the growth of their private farming system for those unable to sustain themselves. Party funds are used to purchase arable land and the equipment to farm it, along with simple housing, before being rented out to the poor, who are then permitted to repay rent from their produce, allowing the party humanitarian efforts to flourish with cheap food, and allowing the party to more easily promise

"Bread, Industry, and Rebirth"

Gustav pledges to direct government funds to this and other, similar programs, and to maintain the peace espoused by the SPD. Pledges are also made to ensure that the country remains secure against communist encroachment, it is clear to all that the program of rented farmland is not the same as the collective farms of the communists. A man who owns one of these farms makes his own profit, and when a farmer has prospered enough, he may purchase his land, or even the land surrounding him. It is a model of industry, and is presented as a return to the rural virtues of the past.
>>
>>1207735
once you get high enough profile, probably.

>>1207738
Dietrich Erwinkel would like to meet with Friedrich Gustav for government cooperation in the farming efforts up north.

He would like to discuss Soviet-style Sowchoses and Kolchoses for maximum employment and distribution.
>>
>>1207743
Mhm yeah ok I understand
>>
Allright, now I just want the Zentrum and I'll make the next mupdate.
>>
>>1207743
Gustav would immediately decline any communist ideal for the farming project.

"I wish to allow the working man or woman to be able to build themselves a life based on hard work and industry, in a capitalist fashion. Each landowner will work and pay for their rent, but are otherwise free to manage their affairs as they will. I will not see honest workers reduced to serfs and peasants, working land they will never own, with no hope of improvement, not even shrouded by your rhetoric."
>>
>>1207738
DWN*, sorry, my bad.
>>
>>1207778
No problem man, I was just getting a little confused.
>>
>>1207771
I guess the concept of a Kolchos is quickly explained to Mister Gustav. It's a large farm jointly owned by all that work on it, thereby allowing people of low income to compete with big land owners that have all the advantages of large scale production.

It is by definition already owned by the honest workers, without them having to pay rent.

A Sowchose would be the same, only that the land is state property and given as a free lease to the farmers, maybe with some say as to product and distribution.

It seems the concerns the DWN have concerning our proposal aren't terribly well founded.
>>
>>1207786
and I guess if the DWN doesn't cooperate, a program for Sowchoses and Kolchoses will be instated in Northern Germany without their aid.
>>
>>1207786
Gustav reiterates a strong desire to prevent any communist institution coming into practice in Germany, though he does apologize for his ignorance of the precise nature of these institution, he still disputes the wisdom of collectivization, maintaining a stern view toward individual ownership of land, preferring the opportunity for the individual to build a truly better life for themselves, to work for themselves and not the community generally.

(Shit, blunder on my part man, sorry. I will point out that the soviet union hasn't yet instituted collectivized farming, which I believe came about in the first five year plan)
>>
>>1207820
Nope, Kolchoses were a thing forom 1917 on. They got manditory in 1929.
>>
>>1207820
>>1207816
and as a compromise, no Sowchoses will be instated in DWN-heavy Bundeslands, only Kolchoses.
>>
>>1207816
Should mention, the SPD doesn't have >50% majority in the Reichstag anymore. Even simple majority decisions will need the approval of >50% of the reichstag.
>>
>>1207841
true!

So DWN, would you agree to my proposal if we remove all mention of Sowchoses?
>>
>>1207378
>>1207387

OP, sorry, but it's a challenge for me to get on much earlier than this and depends on things I can't control.

Zentrum's personal commitments are to keep the government stable and functional, to prevent more extreme parties from disrupting our new democracy.

Of course, we're also committed to work with our good friends in the SPD.
>>
>>1207867
That's allright, a slow start isn't as bad as it might turn out to be. I'll wait about another half hour to see if KfP wants to make a counterspeech to the one made by SPD. In any case, SPD should roll a 1d10 and I'll get back to you after a quick trip to the store.
>>
>>1207843
The DWN may support giving workers the chance to join their properties together, paying a collective rent and working together to compete with large competitors, but only on an entirely voluntary basis. Individuals must be permitted to separate their property at will from the collective.
>>
>>1207873
Hey now, don't be stealing my title, sunshine... :D
>>
>>1207873
contracts that can be exited at will are toothless.

The SPD agrees that this is completely voluntary, but the collective properties should be in the ownership of the people. They are against any rent payment, instead the individuals would be joined together under mutual contract with reasonable exit clauses.

>>1207867
Zentrum, I would like your input on that.
>>
>>1207883

Zentrum is firmly comitted to free market economics. If people co-own a farm is should be essentially as equal business partners in a private company, with standard rights and responsibilities, as is the case anywhere in the democratic world. They shouldn't necessarily be able to compete with major companies/landholders unless they genuinely can due to market forces.

That said, a government scheme of subsidies to setting up would be a good idea, providing business and employment to what is, after all, still the largest sector of employment in the country.

>>1207867

Further to this, a Zentrum policy promise for the new term is to push through significant tax reforms. The regional authorities still have significant influence over tax in their region, and this needs to be properly centralised in order to increase government revenues and provide a fairer and more consistent system across the country.
>>
>>1207883
Hey, for the speech, roll 1d10
>>
>>1207378

>>
>>1207877

>>1207883
If there is no rent, what incentive does the farmer have to excel? If there is a way for them to simply exist, to subsist without any difficulty, they will never strive to become more efficient, to profit. The people should be given the opportunity to purchase the collective properties. If an incentive is given for them to do so, in the form of a rent payment, then they are more likely to work hard and efficiently, profiting everyone.

It is also worth noting that the DWN is currently renting out these plots of land to tenant farmers as described earlier, independent of the government.
>>
>>1207898

OP, is there a response from other countries on the election? What does the dramatic rise of the monarchist faction in Germany make the French think, for example? Or the gradual rise of the Nazis, is anyone concerned?

Rolled 7 (1d10)

>>1207898
that's so unfair.

>>1207897
Alright, so that is a yes, as the government scheme you described is basically the compromise I have offered DWN. But I do have to say, government owned farming land would do wonders to make our government funded benefits inflation proof (or at the very least inflation resistant resistant).

Further to this, a Zentrum policy promise for the new term is to push through significant tax reforms. The regional authorities still have significant influence over tax in their region, and this needs to be properly centralised in order to increase government revenues and provide a fairer and more consistent system across the country.

The SPD supports this and calls for proposals from their own ranks as well as other parties

>If there is no rent, what incentive does the farmer have to excel?
It is their property. If you have such little faith in the human spirit to further themselves, I fear it will be difficult to convince you of any humanitarian acts.
>>
>>1207908

No. It's comfy here.

Also just did some quick maths. The SPD/Zentrum coalition has a total of 50.3%, giving it majority. But damn is that a close one.
>>
>>1207909
Hasn't so far, but be patient. Mupdate is due, writing it now.
>>
>>1207897
I hope you realize that the plan isn't to be gifting land, they're buying it with tax benefits and subsidies.
>>
>>1207921
I had misunderstood, but I got it a second ago. Thanks for clearing it up as well. As such, yeah, no further protests from Zentrum.

Glad we can also work together on the tax reform issues as well. Maybe together we can somewhat combat the rising extremist parties.

Q1 1923

Inflation is upon us. The Mark is falling as if from a cliff by the day in value. As goverment officials have been paying the repayments of Versaille, the industry has been forced to pump more money into the system, causing a rapid inflation. As the common people shout out in dismay and anger, this is a pressing issue brought up in Reichstag discussions, and the DDP uses this opportunity to hurl insults at the Zentrum and SPD, as well as taking the opportunity to restate their promises to restructure the economy for the common people.

Furthermore, cries have been issued from the former Entente members regarding the recent election results. The British have, somewhat surprisingly, expressed their pleasure at the German people achieving a "multi-faceted" democracy, whilst the French are demanding the banning and imprisonment of the KfP and NSDAP, due to their policies of restoration of the monarchy and revanchism respectively.

As if this was not enough of a hot seat for the Reichstag to sit in, in the Sudetenland the Czechoslovaks seem to have persecuted ethnic Germans, following ethnic tensions leading to the election of a nationalist conservative party as the majority party in the Czechoslovak goverment. As a result of the ensuing progroms and harrassment, ca 1,250,000 ethnic Sudeten-Deutsch now cross the border into Germany in a desperate seeking of Asylum.

The political climate of control is also unstable, with areas shifting almost by the day. In Berlin, monarchists can be seen being cased out in violent AND not-so-violent protests by the working class, causing the SPD to once more establish political support in the area.

Furthermore, since the goverment is fractured, I will allow each party to present an idea or reform that they want to enact. They will then get the opportunity to make the case for said law/reform in a speech and subsequent discussion with other members of the Reichstag, after which the subject will be held to a vote by individual seats in the Reichstag. Party loyalty for issue-voting is currently high. Any law change that does not affect the constitution can pass by a simple majority (>50%), whilst a law affecting the constitution or a significant reform can be passed only by an overwhelming majority (>70%).

Katoliche Union needs to make a rise fund (asking its members for money) in ordert to pay for a larger campaign in Munich. After that we will continue the poster campaign with the both already deisgned posters. Moreover we should consult the priests in munich, prehaps we can get permission for leader of Catholic Union Christoph Adelman to make a few speeches during the sunday masses.
>>
Push to invest all available saved DWN party funds into the previously detailed private land deals, allowing farmers to pay their rent in kind to avoid the hopelessly inflated Mark. Send party members to aid the Sudeten refugees. All funds need to be invested while they still have any worth.

Call for the German people to remain strong in this time of trial, and to invest before their savings become worthless.

The DWN brings a proposition before the Reichstag to attempt diplomatic action with the former Entente, pointing out that if reparation payments continue at the same rate, economic ruin is assured. The DWN requests that reparation payments be reduced for a provisional period to allow the German economy to reconstitute itself. Gustav remarked that "If the German people are worked any further, they will break, but if they are allowed to rest, to reconstitute themselves, they may at least have the energy to work once more".
>>
>>1207934
>Inflation is upon us.
Sure hope somebody remembered to invest in actual products we can distribute instead of worthless Reichsmark.

Oh good.

( also, without Kaynes, it's a bit weird that this happened the exact same, but I'm not complaining, I think it's a good decision to still have it this way.)

>as reaction to the cries for banning the KfP and NSDAP

I would like to have an investigation performed regarding their constitutionality. If either of them opposes democracy, republicanism, equality or the state of law, we might have to follow that call.

I will campaign in Hannover, the Rhineland, but generally the whole west of Germany on the back of: Industry is more permanent than money. We can work diligently so that the inflation may be surpressed by keeping the worker close to the product.
I also want to expand party headquarters in Berlin.

As the idea I want to present, is two fold: first of all, a food stamp system, where benefits to workers as well as the unemployed will be paid out in coupouns directly relating to products made by state funded industry.

Related to this, I would push for further nationalization of industry.
>>
>>1207934

I feel that's even very generous towards me and take it without hesitation.

Zentrum speaks out against the resestablishment of the monarchy, and officially stands against it. Our new republic should not be smothered in the cradle. The Zentrum party was founded as a result of the persecution of an Imperialist government, after all, and such a thing in inherantly incapable of true tolerance. However, Chancellor Wirth also calls out for calm in Berlin, and an end to all non-peaceful protests, whether for or against the monarchy.

The French are worryingly confrontational. Can we (assuming others agree) attempt to negotiate once more on reparations. With current economic and social troubles in Germany any relief they could give us would be beneficial for all sides.

Seeing as many Czech refugees will be entering Zentrum supporting areas, and party will also put funding into helping these people, providing them with temporary accomodation and short term help with food and basic necessities.

As for our official proposal: Our previous suggestions of changes to the fiscal system. We want sweeping reform of the German taxation system, aimed at creating a more uniform, centralised, modern system that will reduce beaurocracy and increase government revenue, as well as take power out of the regional governments (many of which are still the remnants of the old feudal states of the HRE and are less loyal to Germany as a whole). Seeing as they are our proposals, and drafted by senior figures in our party, we further suggest one of our own be made Treasurer in order to work on this process.

>>1207964

Nationalisation of industry reeks of communism. What benefits would this give over private ownership? As protection from nationalisation was a key election promise for Zentrum, we may not be able to compromise much on this even if we're currently working well together in coalition. More details on this plan would be appreciated though, as an understanding between our two parties would be beneficial to our current government, of course.

>>1207948

Although you are only currently a regional political force in Bavaria, our shared Catholic ties (though we're no longer a specific catholic party) mean we make for natural friends. Would you be open to a political alliance, for the time being? Seeing as you're directly combating the Communists and Fascists in Bavaria, we could perhaps then manage to divert you a little funding to aid your efforts. We don't want them spreading to much into Wurttemberg and Franken, after all, as they are important Zentrum voting areas.
>>
>>1207996
I think that such political alliance will bring benfits to us both and since Zentrum aided the Catholics during the Kulturkampf we happly agree.

Thalheimer continues his campaign in Munich, trying to wrestle the grasp of the city from the NSDAP.

He launches a sizeable rally in the city as a demonstration of the parties power, trying to scare the NSDAP into submission.

>>1207964
The Spartacists will support this motion for the nationalization of industry for our reform. Small steps will lead to glorious revolution.

In the event of banning the NSDAP and KfD, we demand a full on investigation into both parties, as both seem to be compromised by corruption and violence.

On the Sudetenland situation, the BS will begin using some of its funds to build small camps for these refugees to temporarily live in. The BS supports bringing the situation to the Entente and try to bring them to our side.

Also, I don't mean to be complaining QM, but I've been campaigning in Munich for like 5 turns, and I'm still getting fucked by the NSDAP. I even had a crackdown support from the SPD.

Is there something I'm doing wrong that I can improve on?
>>
Oh shit I just thought of something. We have a new recent Reichstag. Know what we need? Ministers.

SPD have the right to organise ministers, as they are the largest party. Ministers should be assigned by then end of this turn (including the upcoming mid-turn), and feel free to negotiate ministerial posts for anything really from other players.

Ministers to be assigned:

Minister of internal security
Minister of defense
Minister of trade and economy
Foreign minister
>>
>>1207996
>What benefits would this give over private ownership?

It would mean keeping them running even when the market collapses under worthless money, as it does at the moment. Nationalized industry (as we have plenty of already) is the great tool to counter act the crisis, the biggest problem of capitalism.

The plan would be to take on those parts of industry that a.) produce vital products, that includes the agriculture sectore, and b.) might not be able to support themselves in the current inflation (that would be probably most of them). These would then run on state funds and would produce for the people directely, through coupouns and direct hand outs to workers and the needy, thereby circumventing the need for money which loses value as one walks to the store.

I am even willing to sign a contract to privatize a portion of that industry once we have instated a new, stable currency, or even have them only 'rented' for a symbolic fee. But this is an almost vital step to not plummet into crisis.
>>
>>1208007
alright, I am taking aplicance. The ministry of trade and the ministry for internal security is something the SPD has an eye on, but we are open to let those go to others if convinced.
>>
>>1208007
Thalheimer propositions then SPD for full support of the party in exchange for him becoming the Minister of Internal Security. Since it's not the most glamorous position, Thalheimer says the Zentrum and other reactionary parties can't really complain.
>>
>>1208002
I need to have some way of bringing discord, and NSDAP will be relevant in upcoming events so let's say for now that I have an interest in keeping them. I will allow, though, you are definetively the second largest party in Bavaria and are growing in influence in the surrounding regions as well. For now, the NSDAP is a political hotfire machine there. I'm not saying there's NOTHING you can do to destroy them, but if I were to tell you what it is it would ruin part of the point of it.
>>
>>1208018
Alright, fair enough. I don't mean to be messing up your future plot lines, so ill stay out of it.
>>
>>1208014
you have five seats. As sympathetic I am to your cause, I don't think it is in the interest of the people to appoint one of your number to a ministry position. You'd have to be mightily convincing. Of course I would love to have your full support, but you just don't have the democratic mandate for the SPD to be comfortable in doing it.
>>
>>1208024
That's allright, I deserve to be questioned sometimes.
>>
>>1208002

>>1208025
I get the seat, the BS is given a big publicity boost and a legitimizing factor. No longer we could be seen as just the Bavarian Commies, we could make inroads into Monarchiet and Zentrum territory, and tip the balance of power in favor of the SPD.

I'm kind of stretching here man
>>
>>1207934

Campaign across the Rhineland, Baden and Wurttemberg. These areas, closest to France, are the most likely to suffer in case of instability and French intervention. By portraying ourselves as the most moderate and non-confrontational party, we assure them of our commitment to preventing such problems and that we are the least likely to endanger them through radical or unstable policies.

Also, put some focus into Franken, Wurttemberg and Posen (as we've recently lost the last two), urging the people not to fall to the more extremist factions of the DWN, BS and NSDAP. Knee-jerk reactions will only bring further ruin to us.

>>1208013

Zentrum would be most pleased with Trade and Economy as a minsterial position as this is what we are most interested in acting upon for the time being. Foreign would be our second pick. Obviously we wouldn't be against holding the other two either.

Seeing as we are in coalition, we expect a share of the positions, but seeing as we do have the current chancellor, we'll only ask for one (though again, would be very happy to recieve more).

We also urge you to keep internal security in particular to yourselves or us, as to be honest we believe all other parties are either a little too heavy handed with their views or too insignificant to hold a senior ministerial position, especially this one that could so easily be abused.

>>1208028

>>1208046
I'm in a coallition with Zentrum, I can't really give a seat to the communists, especially one they explicitly asked to keep from extremists.
I really feel for you, I would love to have a strong left party in Bavaria, but my hands are tied.

Lothar Av Munckila is considered as minister for trade currently, although this might change.

Minister for internal security will fall to Dietrich Erwinkel.

Defense is still open.
>>
>>1208050
I'll try to get that in for the next one, thanks for the tip!
>>
>>1208060
An NSDAP politician, a man named Ernst Röhm asks to meet you in a hotel room in Baden one day.

"My dear Dietrich, good to see you. Would you like a glass before we begin, perhaps a cigar? My honorable fürher of the NSDAP has advised me to ask you that the NSDAP be given the ministery of defence. With the judeo-marxist ideology rampant on the German people, and the French intervention looming in the shadows, we need a strong, deciding factor in charge of our defence. I have been humbly nominated for the position, and can assure you I would be up for the job. I used to be a captain, you know? I can lead men, and I can hold a line as hard as a wall!"
>>
Also I believe there was talk of a commision into the legality of the KfP and the NSDAP? The NSDAP have made dubious claims in their speeches regarding democracy, however with no clear statement on the matter. The KfP, whilst somewhat heavy in it's rhetoric and attracting more vocal (and physical) supporters amongst it's base, holds no party line that would be formed as illegal. Yet. Also, the NSDAP seems to have an internal organisation known as the "Sturmabteilung", which exists more or less within official party sanction, and performs acts of violence. In the riots and unrest in Bavaria, they usually constitute the majority force of the fighting NSDAP:ers. Apart from this, the commission was unable to gather further data, and atleast one member of the commission has gone AWOL and become a member of the NSDAP.
>>
>>1208062

Top man.

>>1208060

You're being reasonable with this, Zentrum approves. On this basis, Constantin Fehrenbach will become Foreign Minister.

On the note of internal security, we assume it goes without saying that it will be properly enforced even when socialists or communists are the ones causing the trouble, yes?
>>
>>1208070
"This is the first time your party has attempted anything even close to cooperation. Your antisemitic isolationist policies aren't in line with the social democrats in any capacity, AND your support is incredibly local.
I thank you for your interest and urge you to continue to take part in government, we will be open to your proposals as long as they are in line with the principles of the constitution. In regards to that I urge you to reign in those Sturmabteilungs-guys. We do not permit militias in Germany.

I also invite your Parteiführer for further talks."

>>1208085
as it has been the case since 1919, the security ministers who have been socialist the entire time will continue to put down violence on both sides.
Heimwehrs will be continued to be supported as defensive arms of the unions (with no permission for any aggressive acts), and militias are still outlawed, wether left or right.
>>
>>1208110

Excellent. As we said, it goes without saying.

>>1208084

The Zentrum condemns this Sturmabteilung and by extention the NSDAP. They have no place in our democracy.

Seeing as the KfP have done nothing actually illegal, we accept their right to protest their beliefs, even if we disagree with them whole-heartedly.

SPD - Nationalization of industry and agriculture

Allright. While I'm gonna store some of the info I've gotten lately in my trusty .rtf, we will now hold a Reichstag vote on the first, and dare I say least controversial, of the propositions. Each individual seat in the Reichstag will vote individually, however party lines should be established by each party. Party voting loyalty is currently rated as "high". Whilst voting is under progress (i.e, results aren't announced), no further discussion is allowed on the subject as not to confuse matters in the midst of voting.

This first vote will be held on the proposition of the DWN, that is to say:

that's the point, through our nationalizations, we have given ourselves the means to produce the products those can be traded in for ourselves.

Vote passes!

For: 90
Against: 5
Abstaining: 55 (woah)

Now then! As SPD is the leading party right now, they get to assign which delegates go to which issue. They can only use one parties delegate per issue, sending them to make sure the programs are carried out. The goverment centralization does not require a delegate. The rest of the issues each demand a delegate to be fullfilled. What party for what issue?
>>
>>1208767

DWN votes against.
>>
>>1208771
For example, say you nominate the KfD to send thier delegate to renegotiate with the allies, in a diplomatic fashion. That player would then be responsible for how said negotations ensue. This might be the only tricky one, as the others basicallyrely on dice rolls for how well they manage to institute a reform in a said area, for example.
>>
>>1208771
Either nationalization or redrawing the treaty for my party, as more government control is a good part of my party's shtick. I will put
>DWN

>BS
which will be in charge of the increased govermental wellfare and handouts (But only if they agree to have their budget signed off on by Minister Munckila)

The
>SPD

H2 1923

Amidst immigration criseses, a rampant inflation and a new Reichstag, politics are shifting with the winds of the public dismay. The NSDAP have gotten a small foothold in the northwest, and the heartland is in a chaotic split between Zentrum, BS, DSP and SPD. A new party, claiming to represent catholics have also recently come to prominence in Württemberg, and are making inflamatory claims against the supposed protestant regime (barring the Zentrum, naturally).

After hefty discussions and longwinded work, the goverment are ready to enact their new policies in order to try and save Germany from the brink of ruin, but they must act fast and decisively. Extremism grows like a pest amongst the populace, with BS, KPD and NSDAP gaining supporters across the nation in large numbers. Furthermore, a vicious rumour suggests the leadership of the NSDAP have bought a retreat in Bavaria, explicitly shut off from public view, where they are rumoured to be testing some sort of massive vehicles. For what purpose, noone truly knows.

Due to the rampant inflation, a great host of factories and manufactoring plants across the Rhineland-Ruhr area are left bankrupt and abandoned, with Germany losing the vast majority of it's steel production within a matter of weeks. Culture, on the other hand, is hard at rise, with local shows everywhere playing on the people's mistrust in the goverment and bringing light into what some call an era of darkness.

Apart from this, however, the world stage is at a lull. But silence comes before the storm.
>>
>>1208806
Begin a huge propaganda campaign in
Merseburg, filled with anti-Zentrum posters and pamphlets exalting the BS' move to bring welfare to the needy.

(Pretend the image is about the Zentrum)

Thalheimer wires the DWN's figurehead Friedrich Gustav, and offers to begin planning the use of the recently granted outreach funds to the neediest areas.
QM, what are the poorest areas of the country?
>>
>>1208806
Play on the fears of the populace. Run propaganda to show that the current democratic-only government is unable to keep the peace and that a sole autocratic judicial and executive head is the right choice to keep Germany alive.

Focus campaigns in East Germany will the main point of attack being Berlin. Try to get the Kronprinz to maintain permanent residence in Berlin to increase monarchist fervor.
>>
>>1208817
Currently the poorest areas of Germany is the north Rhine and Ruhr areas, along with Schleswig-Holstein and Ostpreussen. They were all hit very badly by the inflation and previous foreign investment pushing out local buissness owners.
>>
>>1208806

If Mr. Gustav is reading this, I propose that we split it between the Rhine and the Baltic. The Rhine will feature pro-BS messaging, and the Baltic will feature pro-DWN messaging.

Sounds good?
>>
>>1208806
holy hell that's unexpectedly shit for the SPD.

>Due to the rampant inflation, a great host of factories and manufactoring plants across the Rhineland-Ruhr area are left bankrupt and abandoned, with Germany losing the vast majority of it's steel production within a matter of weeks.

That's bullshit considering we just decided to buy those out. This seems a little too deterministic for a game.

The SPD will campaign in the west of Germany on the grounds of what we have just decided patently being designed to keep the production facilities there running.
>>
>>1208806
Malory will hold another publicised rally at berlin. This time stating the practical, sharing recommended guidelines for survival, such as burning your money for a fire if need be. He will go over the various dicisions imposed by the government and implore the people to work with each other, keep comunities strong and self sufficient. He will pass out various simple blue prints for water sanitization methods, various pamphlets directing citizens to help lines for questions on politics and general survival.

The party will put all of their resources into spreading this information to their clubs in all the various provinces, and keeping close ties with local governmeny, to make sure they are playing their part.
>>
>>1208830
Just so this is clear: the DWN is in charge not only for a part of the decided programs, they are in charge of restructuring the way federal funds are given out.
>>
>>1208817
Gustav suggests that the widespread campaign of soup kitchens be continued, public infrastructure be maintained, and for dormitories to be established to house the destitute for as cheaply as possible. Private farmers are encouraged to take on farmhands, and the program of small, subsistence farms is also encouraged.

Ostpreussen and Schleswig Holstein are the DWN's first priority, but the Ruhr is not to be neglected.

Gustav returns to his old tactics of constant campaigning across the Baltic Coast, sending the party printing agencies mass requests for the vast range of propaganda posters produced by the party, and printing newspapers reporting on the cultural successes of Modern Germany, to help maintain public morale and confidence in the DWN. The party will also report on all resolutions undertaken in the Reichstag, justifying the choices of the DWN both in short headlines to long, drawn out ideological tracts. Gustav travels across the country making speeches, but consistently returns to the party heartlands in the North.
>>
>>1208806
>>1208831
additionally, we will start a campaign in Berlin focused on women's rights.
>>
>>1208830
Gustav calls on Thalheimer to remember why this work is being undertaken, to maintain the German people in this time of strife. We are not here to campaign with government funds, to campaign is a business separate from serving the people. There are to be no pro-party messages on any Government aid, as far as the DWN may control it.

>>1208837
The DWN will support this campaign.
>>
>>1208837
oh, and violently anti-aristocratic>>1208819
>>
>>1208836
Thalheimer agrees with Mr. Gustav's suggestions, but suggest the farming initiatives should be more in favor of encouraging workers to join the newly nationalized industries.

Thalheimer requests Mr. Gustav's input on the messaging, so a fruitful relationship between both parties is established.
>>
>>1208831
You bought out factories mostly in the north, as a result of the american investors pushing germans out of the market (mostly). Nevertheless, the goverment is spending heavy money everywhere and elsewhere right now, and the recent inflation has caused a REOCCURING stride of factories going close. These ones are new, and have (as of yet) been bought by no goverment, party or man. Though it might be wise to do so, considering the industrial capacity they hold and will be able to hold once the economy stabilizes.
>>
>>1208845
frick off you diet commies
>>
>>1208846
Forget that messaging part, saw the new post.

>>1208844
Thalheimer informs that the messaging would be provided within the parties own funds. The outreach in itself is inherently political, and Thalheimer is open to seeing Mr. Gustav benefit.
>>
>>1208848
no shit it might be wise, it has been just decided in parliament to do it.

What's annoying about this is that I know (as you already are alluding to) that we'll get the negative of overspending, but we aren't getting the positive of actually buying cheap defaulting companies.
>>
>>1208853
Be patient. Tides will turn.
>>
>>1208845
Thalheimer full-heartedly supports the gender awareness from the SPD, but is really happy about Anti-Aristocratic messgaing.

Stamped with Communist approval.
>>
>>1208786

Our guy is the new foreign minister, so having us handle the French makes sense. No complaints with who is doing what from us.

>>1208806

Following on from the above, we'd like Foreign Minister Fehrenbach to open a negotiation with Czechoslovakia. Their government is causing us some problems, after all, and I imagine most German people oppose to the persecution of Germans in Czechoslovakia on general moral grounds.

Zentrum campaigning will mostly be against the dangers of extremism, opposing the rise of the BS and NSDAP. The latter in particular will have speeches directed against it. Militancy and intolerance are the very issues which led Germany to war and brought about our current state, to return to these ideas would be a repeat of recent mistakes which would benefit no one.

With the rise of the NSDAP and their openly anti-semetic and anti-polish rhetoric, we also look to these minorities, as well as any others, as a party which will guarantee to protect their rights and safety.
>>
>>1208855
I am way to salty, I know that myself. But goddamnit, the steel of all things!

>>1208851

I'd say you should go to Eastern Prussia, but that's probably the best seccured territory of anything?
>>
>>1208864
I tried to go East Prussia but I found some hardship. The Berliners seem happy enough to give me seats in the Reichstag.
>>
>>1208852
Gustav agrees to Thalheimer's proposal, on the grounds that all campaigning is funded by each party.
>>
>>1208875

>>
>>1208875

I'm just banking on the roaring 20s to help me.
>>
so how does everybody feel about partially focusing on steel industry with the nationalization bill we just passed?
>>
>>1208888
Steel industry sounds good but we should also branch out to a more advanced industry, like machinery.
>>
>>1208891

Machinery isn't much of an industry unless we can have steel going strong first, and I think trying to do both at once would be a bad idea.
>>
>>1208879

>>1208888
I'd be down. It'd require Gustav to back me up on this.
>>
>>1208891
we can't branch out too much considering at least parts of it have to go into basic living products like food, hygiene, tools, for our benefits restructuring to work.
>>

>>
>>1208888
So long as good German Men and Women are free to earn their keep and to prosper as they choose, the DWN has no quarrel with socialism, only with the cultural destruction brought about by communism and the destruction of liberty by Monarchism and Fascism.
>>
I don't know if this counts as an action but is any party willing to form a coalition to prevent communist legislation? Socialists are OK... for now.
>>
>>1208806
I'll summarize my actions here:

The SPD will campaign in the west of Germany about how they are saving the industry that's failing there. We are sympathetic with the strikers and promise that once the coupon system is in place, a federal factory will be the best to work in.

We will also be making big PR campaigns in Berlin regarding anti-aristocratic sentiment and pro-feminist legislation. That's gonna happen with marches, but also, and crucially with low-key pamphlets and posters in nightclubs and cafes. In particular we aim to push a law through that will make it possible for women to take a job without permission of their husband.

We will be proposing in the Reichstag to prioritize Western German Steel production next to failing northern German farm land and industry for our nationalization angle.

Dietrich Erwinkel will visit the newly bought industry in western and Northern Germany with Lothar to get a better idea of how things are run there.

Since we're summarizing actions:

Use the government grant to begin outreach programs throughout the the Rhine and the Baltic, focusing on the creation of soup kitchens and the creation of housing for the destitute and poor. Small and the program of small, subsistence farms is also encouraged with a very minor grant from the BS.

Throughout the regions of Franken and Pfalz, the BS campaigns, and uses the aid in Pfalz to paint the Spartacist movement as benevolent working-class heroes.

In Franken, Thalheimer publishes the "The Cry for Common Sense", another radical manifesto demanding radical wealth distribution throughout Bavaria.

It sells like wildfire, but is it enough to give the BS a majority?

H1 1924

The market is still inflating at an insane degree, with salaries becoming essentially worthless within days of being handed out. After the wide majority of the steel industry in the Rhineland went bankrupt and closed it's doors, the majority of the state budget was spent on buying out and thus nationalizing the industry here. Under inspection by state investigators, it is found that the abandoned machinery is still mostly usable, with some relatively mediate expected costs to put the factories back into function.

The NSDAP is gaining further support in the south, and the northern Rhine area has gotten renewed loyalties with the SPD, as a result of them effectively handing out jobs systematically to the workless in exchange for foodstamps in the area, a huge PR boost for the SPD amongst the working class follows, though the burgher class of the Rhineland-Ruhr are somewhat discontent with the situation, becoming more sympathetic with parties like KfD and NSDAP.

Outreach programs for refugees and the disenfranchised poor are effective, gaining support for both the BS and the DWN. Temporary state homes, essentially massive barrack-complexes, are constructed across the Czechoslovak border for the immigrants, so they have somewhere to stay. Trade deals with Sweden ensure an import of foodstuffs which allows for the construction of soup-kitchens, though at quite a blow to the govermental budget.

A sunny day in Köln, a open-topped car slowly stops at the local mayors office. In the car sits the British, French and American foreign ministers, arriving to met with the German foreign minister for proposed discussions on "repayment rates and effectivity". As they all arrive finely dressed and in top hats, one can visibly see their discomfort at the sunny day in early may, with them wiping the sweat from their brows. As they step into the office, however, not one is anywhere close to showing discomfort. They all sit in full battle-stations, for they are here to do buissness. The British foreign minister breaks the silence:

"You have called us here for talks, my dear minister. Tell us, what exactly do you want to talk about regarding the Versaille treaty?"
>>
>>1215584
Alright, here's the actions of the SPD:

1. We continue the campaign in Berlin.
2. Hannover gets a big push, the SPD-led unions are put in charge of assertaning the demand for what kinds of product coupons are needed to be as effectively populistic as possible. Every single case of SA violence will be blown out of proportion as Bavarian seperatist terrorism.

3. The SPD will sponsor soup kitchens out of party funds in eastern Germany.

4. The SPD will bring a motion to the Reichstag for the construction of four tanks from Rhineland steel for home defense.

5. Security minister Dietrich Erwinkel will ask the leader of the KfD (Is it Monroy?) for a private 4-eyes talk.

SInce we have funds from Zentrum and support in Wuttenberg we should be able to make the campaing bigger this time.Print posters showing German workers on the streets, with cans and begging people for money and Keiser Wilhelm walking past them with smile

Moreover, encourage people to follow catholic values and help their fellow Germans in need try to get in contact with the church to set up stands with free food etc.

Moreover,Mr.Christopher Adelman is deeply worried with the fact that NSDAP is gaining momentum he wants to know if Zentrum has any plans on trying to stop them.

>"You have called us here for talks, my dear minister. Tell us, what exactly do you want to talk about regarding the Versailles treaty?"

“About how best to uphold it, gentlemen. For as it is now, it will surely collapse, and Germany shall collapse with it. Into what state I do not know, nor could we, until the event transpires. Perhaps we might collapse into simple economic ruin, our people reduced to medieval peasants, barely subsisting off their toil in the fields, growing just what is to feed themselves. In such an economy, what might be taxed to pay reparations? What gain is there to you in reducing a modern people to such a state?

“Perhaps, instead, we will fall to extremists, to communists, to jingoists, to anti-Semitism and intolerance. You must see the state of Germany and the rise of political movements using the pressure of Versailles to push their agenda. Should the current order in Germany fall, what then? You expect reparations from the madmen of the NSDAP? From the BS? The only way to extract your reparations from them shall be through a new war, a new occupation. Everything we have worked for so far will be reset to the moment the treaty was signed.

“So I implore you, gentlemen, show mercy, show restraint. Allow Germany time and space enough to best heal itself so that it may serve to heal the wounds of all. Allow us some years without repayments, or reduced payments if that is too much to ask. Let us get ourselves to a state where we can pay without it robbing you of later payments.

"I ask for the good of Germany, for the good of your own nations, for the good of human history, that people should look back to us after the horrors of the Great War, and see that we entered a new era of reason and compassion."

(Relatively proud of how that turned out.)
>>
>>1215584

Campaigning for the turn will be focused on the ideas of democracy over the evils of the extremist idealogies. It was the old system of autocracy that led to the current situation. Now the people finally have a true say in their fate, don't let it be thrown away to communists and fascists before the voice of the people can make a difference. They represent only a return to the old order and a repeat of its mistakes, while democracy offers a chance for something new and better for the future.
>>

>>
>>1215786

ah, fuck, I thought tanks are included in 165, so they'd be restricted, but they've got their own clause of being completely prohibited. Well that sucks.

I'll instead commission a few of the 10.5cm Howitzers we are allowed to have and station them in Berlin.
>>
>>1215707
Depending on the banking plan, the SPD will be interested in working together with the DSP in this. A central bank could accompany a new currency which could orientate itself on the worth of product coupons currently used in federal industry, thereby directly correlating to the worth of needed products of the average worker.
>>
>>1215794
Allright, but I should warn you now, goverment budget ain't never-ending. You're fine so far, but go much further and you'll have to start taking further loans.
>>
>>1215799
Yep, I absolutely understand. We have been running on counter cyclical spending since 1919, so there will be no hissy fit when the consequences come.

But I assume that owning the steel mills would probably make it cheaper than it would have been before, yes?

But as the case may be, if the Nazis have bought the tanks rejected by BS and DWN, we need anti tank weaponry.
>>
>>1215806
Owning the steel mills are gonna make it cheaper, but raw materials and proudction costs in general still come in play. Though you are correct.
>>
>>1215786

Good point. Forgot that bit.

Sachsen, Franken and Merseberg will be our focus, as these are areas with prominent extremism that used to vote mostly for Zentrum.

>>1215794

SPD, please bear in mind the effect it could have on France to be doing anything military related while we're trying to negotiate better terms for reparations and the like.
>>
>>1215837
>SPD, please bear in mind the effect it could have on France to be doing anything military related while we're trying to negotiate better terms for reparations and the like.

I am considering this and am deeming manouvering within the treatie's boundaries to be a safe step.

Do you disagree? Would you advice me not to construct the Howitzers?
>>
>>1215859

I'd perhaps advise holding off until after the current negotation with France and co. France isn't exactly friendly, and any slight excuse they can use to shut down negotiations should be avoided. Just a better safe than sorry sort of situation.

At any other time I'd say go ahead.
>>
>>1215867
alright, but then I want Fehrenbach to use that in his negotiations - that we would find it helpful for internal security if we had a better equipped army, but that all plans are put on ice for now as a show of good will.
>>
>>1215879
>>1215784

Sure. OP, can we assume that in further discussion with France and co it's brought up how little funding and effort is going into German military, as we were expected to do. Basically just as a point that we're acting in good faith with the spirit of the treaty, not just the letter of it.
>>
>>1215889

The NSDAP are catering to a growing reactionary fanatically dissapointed audience which has seen the failures of communists in revolution, which has seen the economic collapse of the system in the hands of moderates (be it, ignoring the improvements being made) and are swept away in fervor by charisma of a strong leader figure.
>>
>>1216101
the annoying thing is, I completely udnerstand why NSDAP has the plot armour, and honestly, I agree with it. we're all sensible and goal focused, an NPC enemy is vitally important.

But that also means that investing in getting Bavarian agriculture strong is kind of pointless, so I don't do it which in turn means that there's more actual justification for the NSDAP to grow.

I think the way it's handled right now is better than just have them be quenched by us, but it's also annoying in that way. Bavaria, the funnest State, has been largely taken out of consideration.

but again, OP >>1216104 I understand and approve of your use of the Nazis.

Here's the BS action before I forget:

Continue the campaign in Pfalz, and continue using the outreach programs to garner support.

For the specifics of the campaign, Thalheimer commissions a series of posters (see pic) portraying the SPD as incapable of bringing industry back to the region, and the BS as saviors bringing back prosperity to the area with more radical procedures.

Thalheimer begins advocating in speeches for the reclaimation of Danzig in the renegotiations of the Treaty of Versailles, claiming that rightful German land has been wrongfully seized by the foreign capitalists.

The american minister has almost fallen asleep by the time you end your speech, and the british one reaches his hand across the table in wanton agreement of concluding good talks.

Then, the French foreign minister erupts.

"How dare you make such claims? You have cast Europe into darkness time and time again during these last centuries, this last time causing death the type of which never has been seen before on this earth before? It is a travesty that you place such demands in your place."

He takes a breath. The american minister has awoken amidst all the shouting, and the british foreign minister is looking at him stern-eyed.

He sighs

"However, we will have to continue to be reasonable. For now, though, we have demands of our own. You mentioned the NSDAP. These violent peace-hating thugs are nothing but scum. We want to see them and that pack of revanchist dogs that are the KfD outlawed and imprisoned. When you have that done, we will recind half of the reparations until 1932, and until such time you will work off the other half year by year. If you don't agree, France will have to occupy the Rhineland. We've seen your ways of buying the steel industry, we know what you're up to. Is this it? We told you to take care of the violent thugs in your political system and you invite them into the goverment? Is this their idea, to buy the steel industry, rearm and thwart European peace? No sir. We want you to arrest them and close them down. When you have, France will consider deals."

Also, start in Austria if you so wish but I can't go in and try to see to their politics as well, I have enough of a shitstorm trying to develop a believable political system in Germany.

All that said, I welcome you aboard with a few fair warnings. New parties are gonna have it tough right now, and this (from what I can attain) would deem itself a heavier RP and time-investment than Der Krieg was. Just to prepare you.
>>
>>1216791

Well, that isn't so great. Foreign Minister Fehrenbach comes back from the talks and explains how it went to the Chancellor and President.

Seems USA doesn't care, UK is relatively helpful, and France is downright confrontational. I'm glad I asked you to hold off on the howitzers if even buying steelplants was enough to trigger them. I can't imagine arresting the leadership of the KfD and NSDAP would go down terribly well with their numerous supporters. We could be looking at civil war there. Although we could doubtless find relatively legal reasons to deal with the NSDAP, the KfD also haven't actually broken the law, so dealing with them would be against our new constitution, unless we had it changed specifically to ruin the KfD.

That said, getting ten years with half size reparations in return would be a massive help to us. I think this is probably a presidential level desicion. What do you think, SPD (and anyone else)?

>>1218584

Teddy died in 1919 irl. Whether he's alive or not in this timeline is up to OP, as my party leader was assassinated in 1921 irl by proto-nazis and he's still alive in our timeline at 1923 now.

We can always sin an under the table deal with the UK and USA to look the other way and remilitarize the Rhine. Otherwise, tell the French to just fuck off. The brits are polite, but the French are just being assholes. If they have the care to invade Germany over us not banning a perfectly legal party, then we will die for the preservation of freedom of speech.
>>
>>1218850
