Civ quest, from Primal to Empire

Testing out homebrew civ quest thing,
anyone who wants to help a civilisation grow from humble beginnings to mighty empires
is wellcome to join in

First off, pick a race and starting zone
first three votes for race,
fiest three votes for starting zone

Races: Human [+1Thinking, +1Starting Pop]
Dwarf [+1 Free starting tech, +1 Wealth]
Orc [+1 Starting Pop, Art of War tech is free]
Elf [+1Thinking, starts with 1 free magic school]

Starting Zones:
Plains [+1food -1wealth]
Mountains [+1wealth -1food]
Coast [+1food -1thinking power]
Ruins [+1 thinking power, -1food]

Stats:
Food - used for population growth
Wealth - used for building
Thinking Power - used for advancing technology/spirituality/magic
Population - 1 unit = 100 souls, - converted to military/Thinking Points/Wealth production

I should explain why I chose water, since it decided for everyone.
1: Water is the most important ingredient for life. Even when looking at other planets, the first thing we say is "Does it have water?".
2: All early civilizations were born near rivers.
3: The largest limit to human expansion? A major cause of failed and successful sieges? Access to clean water.
4: Water makes up 2/3 of the human body. It will make up a similar proportion of the bodies of other races I'm sure.
5: Technically this can be handled by others, but the ability to call on rain for crops would be important. Rain, and by extension flooding, can also be tools on the battlefield.
6: Water can be used to spread disease. Similarly, purifying water with magic can be used to limit the danger of parasites, virus' and the like. The ability to purify water ties in with #3
7: The ability to turn any body of water to ice will place entire civilizations at our mercy. If their ports can send goods their economy will collapse. We can also freeze the water in their wells, or get more dirty with these tactics.
tl;dr Water is the most abundant and versatile resource in the world. Control over it gives near limitless uses.

For many years the people gathered atop the ruins of ainchent buildings and stared at the stars above, searching for inspiration and charting their movements

>The shaman bloodline developed more powerful with time, soon one of theese managed to draw water from the sky and captured it mid air in a grand display of power over nature, the water bows to you, tribal elves

>But not all share your wonder, desperate mothers and starving people come to ask for food, for they cannot live like this forever, all you know is the ruins and the land around it leaving most of your surrounding terretory unexplored

>The smartest of the elves stepped together and studied the earth, the plants and the seasons, they figured out when it is time to plant the seeds, when to grow the crops and when to store them. Soon the outskirts of the ruins started blooming in fruits and grains that were turned to flour and mush with stones and cooked, feeding the population, and making them happy, the children grow and the elders stay alive longer, promising a growth of population in times to come

>With the aid of the shaman's teachings the water is channeled from the sky when draught and provides for the people, even if there is no water anywhere else (+1 to agriculture food gain)

>Now that food is plenty the elves start picking apart and noticing other interesting ways to improve their lives, for example a gatherer found that if you drop a clump of clay in fire it can become hard, with some brainstorming we could make shapes and bake them into stillness

>Other found out by throwing rocks into fire that some of them actualy start to melt and change shape, as if the fire made it softer, perhaps in the ground there is more of theese rocks to make soft and bend into tools better than bone, wood and rock?

>Meanwhile a hunter has been seen hunting with his sling stretched out over a bent stick and shooting smaller sticks from the string, perhaps a new weapon, better than spear club and sling? Who knows..

>then again the stargazers keep wanting to make the idols, saying the gods will watch over us
