If you're new, read the basic summary >>1175582 as this is also where you'll create your character.

We are a nomadic tribe in the Arctic regions. There are seals, polar bears, wolves, foxes, and other animals in this cold, snow region. We travel around this landscape, killing our prey and eating before moving on. Though, if you wanted, could this be the generation that decides to create civilization?

Set the setting, OP. Let's Genghis Khan this map.
>>
We're going to need a few more people, as in people on the thread calling the shots.
>>
>>1177165
More than seven?
>>
They're not here? Ah, let's go for it!
>>
>>1177182
Ah, my tired old bones can't take all this waiting.
>>
>>1177090
Allright mates let's bash some purplefags' heads in!
>>
You are sitting around a campfire. The tribe has just killed a woolly mammoth.

There are 30 tribe members: 10 men, 10 women and 10 children. Due to the physically demanding nature of the Arctic climate, everyone in the tribe has higher amounts of endurance and strength. The manpower of the tribe is 15, with there being an additional 5 tribe members who are doctors and healers.

In what direction will the tribe go from here?
>>
>>1177237
Go? We're going to harvest every last bit of this mammoth.
>>
>>1177237
Simo will try to cut off the dead mammoth's tusks off. They may come in handy for someone with more manual dexterity (or more fingers, for that matter) than Simo.

Do I have to roll now?
>>
>>1177237
It would be best we make some thick coats from the mammoth.
>>
Alright. You begin the work to make thick coats from the mammoth's skin. You also harvest the meat and tusks. I also assume you harvest the bones?
>>
>>1177237
1. Skin the hides and furs.
2. Harvest the meat.
3. Seperate the tusks for arrow and spear heads
>>
>>1177258
Bones, fat, organs. Everything.
>>
If you were to perfectly preserve the animal's remains, you would have food for anywhere from about 3-6 months. Will you attempt to preserve this massive amount of meat and risk illness or sell the amount you don't eat?
>>
>>1177317
Sell for what? And to whom? Wouldn't it technically be trading? What would we be trading for?
>>
By sell I mean trade for things you might need (other gray tribes might trade with you).
>>
>>1177327
What would they have to trade?
>>
There is salt, which would aid in meat preservation, on the coasts. The salt has traveled overland to the nearest trading outpost (about 50 kilometers from where you are now). Would you like to trade for it?
>>
>>1177327
How geared are we? I'd like to trade for weapon and armor but what equipment do we have? Do they have equipment more effective?
>>
>>1177317
I say we save about 1/3 to 1/2 of what needs preserving.
>>
This would involve sending an expedition to trade for it.
>>
>>1177358
Trading outposts? So there are sedentary peoples around too? Even among the grays?
>>
>>1177364
I'm thinking 2 months worth. We can't afford illness in such harsh conditions. The rest, two thirds for salt and a third for better weapons and armor. I need a bow, two of our players hunters need a bows as well, all three of our hunters need powerful melee weapons. Preferably bladed like axes.
>>
You have:

No armor;
Stone clubs for everyone;
A variety of fried herbs used in medicines from the taiga forests;
Woolly mammoth fur coats;
One large sled.
>>
>>1177385
Sorry, correction. 5 bows for players and 4 bladed weapons for player hunters. If we can buy more with the third of the cash meat, get some more blades weapons for the rest of our hunters. Not daggers and whatnot: powerful bladed weapons. As I said earlier, axes, for instance. Those aren't forged by ivory. And if we can, some more advanced armor.
>>
>>1177377
Yep, there are sedentary tribes. They survive by foraging, killing small animals, and crafting stuff to sell to hunters. This lifestyle has no added benefits compared to the hunter lifestyle because the people must output large amounts of weapons and such while still working hard at foraging and hunting the small animals.
>>
>>1177416
Meanwhile, carve our some ivory spearhead and craft spears. How'd we kill a mammoth with clubs again?
>>
>>1177440
You got lucky. You had acquired an excess of clubs, short clubs, by hunting smaller animals, such that the clubs were easy to throw hard and fast at the mammoth. It took all your 20 able-bodied tribe members, but you finally succeeded in bringing the mammoth down.
>>
>>1177440
Endurance.

Let's use some of the bones to make another sled. Maybe some simple armor too.
>>
>>1177457
>>1177463
Bullshit. The mammoth would have destroyed us.
>>
>>1177492
You got lucky. It was a lone mammoth, a little small, and injured. We also stayed reasonably far away from tis mammoth. And there was even additional luck whilst fighting the mammoth.
>>
>>1177509
Okay, I can accept that. But it's good to note that small mammoths stay either the herd and the herd typically watches over injured mammoths
>>
Alright. We have three large sleds and have a lot of meat. We've turned the ivory into spears and made fur coats. Are we going to go to the outpost?
>>
>>1177582
Suuuure
>>
>>1177582
Yep.
>>

>>
You set off! You put the meat on the sleds and carry your new ivory weapons to fight off anyone that might steal your goods.

>>
You look again, and this time you see another glint, and another, then...

You concentrate and listen closely. After a couple minutes you hear a loud sound and a lot more glints are seen in the forest. You think you can see humanoid figures in there...

Your call.
>>
>>1177786
"Lads, we are being watched!"
Grab a club and prepare for the worse.

The group is on edge but nonetheless you carry on. Hours pass and now it is night. What do you do? The forest is still close to you and it is going to be dark.

DIPLOMACYDIPLOMACY

We make campaign and settle. The player among us that has the highest concentration will stay up and take watch. They will strike now so instead...

Have everyone tuck in to their tents or whatever. Keep their weapons close and their bodies ready. ACT like they're sleeping. Our watch Baba will signal us when they come.
>>
>>1177843
An hour goes by. Outside it's quiet. At least it was. Now you hear a clinking, a foreign tongue, and there seem to be at least 5 voices. They're getting closer. Them seem intentionally quiet. They're close.
>>
>>1177853
Oh. They're coming. Good. Up and at it, boyos.
>>
You get out of you tent. The men are very close now. There are 6 men, dressed in black. You have your weapons. What to do?
>>
Alright resume tomorrow
>>
>>1177961
Maul them. All out attack by the whole tribe. The surprise will willow us to immediately kill two. Surround the rest and force them to surrender. I will thereafter attempt to recruit them.

>>
>>1179917
Yes, you can have the dagger.

You ask what people they belong to. They reply "our own". He blinks and says there are about 2000 people in their tribe.
>>
>>1179949
Wot.

Okay, time to torture. And craft loyalty. Draw my new dagger (thank you) over their chests, slicing the letters V.I., my initials. Then convince them to excommunicate from their tribe and vow life and loyalty to ours by pincering them between future glory, safety for themselves and a family of a beloved wife and strong, healthy children, no hunger and the fear of me torturing them for 600 days and 600 nights until their mind shatters and their soul turns black with anguish.
>>
>>1179966
You threaten them with the dagger, and begin to slowly cut into their skin. They crack and they tell you they are from a tribe of 100 from the Purple people. He says they were sent to disrupt the ability of the Gray people to supply themselves with food.

He says he can't go back to his tribe, because he was to be sentenced to death if he returned within a year.
>>
>>1179999
Enslave them.
>>
>>1179999
Great, any objections from any of the three men? Otherwise, recruit them to our tribe. They are ours now. But if they ever betray us, to steal our food and return to their tribe or otherwise, I will crush their souls so that they will never pass to the afterlife. Indigenous people care too much of a peaceful afterlife so this should scare the shit out of them.
>>
>>1180008
Too soon for slavery and frankly, I dont like slavery. Its much more smooth to compel them into our efforts with harshness and settle them into our tribe with kindness. It'll show them that our tribe is much more worth living in and fighting for than their own. A man who loves his home and family will fight like a lion. A main who is chained will fight like a man who is chained.

In the Neolithic, copper was the best metal they could work, but it's not strong enough to hold it's shape after a point. People would circumvent this with a couple methods. You can make the weapon pretty thick and have a pronounced spine, which will provide rigidity to the weapon. This lets you make a longer blade, though it would be heavy and really only the size of a short sword.

An alternative is to make small blades and affix them to a piece of wood, like my pic. I'm proposing we make a giant club for me(or anyone that has high enough stats), then place small blades to the sides, much like a macuahuitl. This would be a very effective weapon that would take advantage of my high strength and endurence
>>
>>1180460
I dont know if we have anything to stick your blades to a spine. And I believe a sword would be more effective if your weapon is only the length of a short sword. But do as you please. We have four daggers left and you have your own sword to use once we discover a material to bind the blades to a stick. That is a stick, right? But if bronze daggers and swords already exist in this world, your weapon is already outdated. I wouldnt encourage trying to make it.
>>
>>1180477
no bronze age swords were as big as the one I'm planning. The most common weapon would be a spear, with only the head made of bronze or copper.

A zweihander size swordclub would be a terrifying thing to fight against

Keep in mind we are JUST entering the Bronze Age and smelting has not yet been discovered (the bronze weapons were originally chunks of bronze that were chipped at to form the swords). Ivory, stone, wood, obsidian, and other materials can be traded for. A quality weapon costs 1/15 days of meat. OP got to go for 2 hours debate with yourselves.
>>
>>1181402
You guys can go do trading and stuff, I'll look after our new friends, just to make sure they dont try anything while we're here.
>>
Do some weightlifting using heavy rocks.
>>
>>1181402
Don't want to fuck with your story, but they would have smelting if they have bronze. Bronze is almost never found naturally, as tin and copper aren't commonly found together. Your explanation would work for the early adoption of copper

I vote we get some good vegetables from down south and pickled food
>>
>>1181479
1. Salt for preservation of future meat.
2. Vegetables for vitamin and mineral needs. Also to detoxify the meat we consume.
3. Can we get some good armor?
4. Quality bow and arrows for me.
5. Quality melee weapons for Bob, Todd, and Bjorn. More quality weapons for the tribe.
6. Herbs and whatnot that cannot easily be found for Baba.

>>1181479
Bronze is an alloy, yes. He's right, OP.

I'd like to get some wood or bone armor, our mammoth fur coats are probably pretty good against slashes from spears and such, but won't be much help against arrows or stabs.

Getting one of the womenfolk to sew together the hide to be thicker would be very good if we expect to get attacked by archers
>>
>>1181769
The wool coats are for warmth. We can drape them over our armor.
>>
>>1181769
I suggested we make some of that from the mammoth, didn't seem to go anywhere.
>>1181646
This list seems reasonable.
>>
>>1181826
thick fur will still help as armor, and armor is definitely good for warmth.

By sewing two pieces of hide together, fur sides in, we'll have way more effective armor and it'll be better for keeping warm.
>>
There was a fire at a copper and tin storage place, which melted the two metals into bronze. Unfortunately, no one lived to tell the tale. However, tin and copper weapons and armor are commonly found at this time.

>>1181646
1. You buy enough salt to preserve the 2 months of mammoth meat you will be consuming. This costs one month of trading meat.
2. You buy some veggies that will give good vitamins and minerals. This costs 15 days of mammoth meat.
2. You buy 1 month of vegetables with 15 days of mammoth meat.
3. You buy 50 suits of quality thick hardened leather armor with one week of mammoth meat.
4. You buy 5 quality bows, 5 quivers, and 100 arrows (You can make your own arrows as well) with one week of mammoth meat.
5. You buy 50 copper swords with another week of mammoth meat.
6. You buy 100 pounds of assorted herbs with two weeks of mammoth meat.

There are also tribeless people at the trading posts seeking to join another tribe. Do you accept them as your own? There are 5 men 7 women and 2 children.

There are also several large sleds for sale, each for one week worth of meat.
>>
>>1182886
take the women and children, men are on a case by case basis. Those with useful skills or professions can join
>>
>>1182886

Accept all 7 women and 2 children. Like Bjorn says, men by case by case. Also, can we get a close-up on the children? How they look what they seem to be good at?

Lesh will practice throwing his knife while practice with the bow. Retrieve each arrow I shoot.

OP, can we increase stats without dividing them into skills? I love technicalities but here, where inventory is already bound to be a mess, its a little overwhelming. I'm fine with continuing as is if you don't want to, however.
>>
>>1183255
>>1183268
Or perhaps lessen the sub-stats? For instance, no "fighting" or "knife-throwing". Just Blade, Blunt, Pierce, and Range Mastery for combat. And three for each stat like perception, craft, and [something] for Concentration. Or athletics, labor, and lifting for Strength.

>>1183343
Alright. Fighting is dexterity, as is knife throwing.
>>
>>1183367
YES.

>>1183378
I didn't mean that. Instead of having skills, just make them stats. Instead of increasing Knife-throwing, just increase Dexterity. Someone who has experience with throwing knives will be better at archery. The skill required for both is similar so why not just increase dexterity. Same with Charisma. Instead of Persuasion, just increase Charisma.

Strength would be labor and melee weapons like clubs.

Dexterity would be for weapons like daggers, knives, bows. Any weapon that requires more skill than force. Also skinning hides, if youd like.

Swords can be either strength or dexterity, player's choice.

^ Something like this.

All 30 can fight.

We've recruited 3 of the former Purples we encountered earlier. They can fight as well. And now we have 10 wolves. 12 of the children we have cannot all fight. Three of them are apprentices and can.

Overall, we have 46 units that can fight, excluding us. They have 100. Let's pump our numbers up, yeah? Meanwhile keep practicing to raise your combat stats. Let us have one man fell 10. We are wolves. Not sheep.

If we learn how many of their 100 are fighters and what equipment they have, we may not have nede for the seals. We can get them after we conquer their camp, intergrate some fraction of their 100 into our tribe, and then go searching for seals. BUT if it looks like we could use the bonus (Im not certain how seal blubber is supposed to toughen hardened leather armor) then we'll get it. Good?

Alright. Zafluka's speech seems to somewhat work on them. Your gifts do you, and your show of power tells them you are not threats. Plus, they figure you wouldn't have a reason to kill them if you are Grey speaking people.

They seem to think the idea of a Grey speaking people that would kill other Grey people is scary. They decide we should unite to destroy the rogue tribe. There are about 43 tribe members (16 men, 21 women, and 6 children)

Personally I think we should only take a couple guys and do the same with the other tribes we come across, because demographically speaking if the able bodied population of a tribe dies the entire tribe dies. This keeps collateral at a minimum

Convince her to combine our tribes into one. We have fostered a nice life in the Northlands. But now enemies encroach. We must become strong once more, mighty like our ancestors. Like her father and mother, and there's before hers. Appeal to her with traditional values. Combine our tribe into one single unity. Tell her we want to unite all the grey tribes in the Northlands.
>>
>>1187392
Tell her she is frail. And that we will defend her people fiercely in her stead, because they would be our own. All of the grey tribe are family. And like any family, we must become one, like we should be.
>>
>>1187402
>>1187387

>>
>>1187412
Entire tribe. It doesn't make sense not to. And we are wolves. Wolves are not known for their battle keen but for their loyalty to their pack and family, and the fierceness of their guardianship. This is our creed. We will not fall back on it.
>>
>>1187412
OP, the ideas are different. Blue anon wants to work together with them. He means that he doesnt want to let their tribe die by taking all the people that can work.

I want to combine our tribes into one tribe. If we're combining our tribes, we take all.
>>
>>1187422
Well if we intergrate the tribe then its not such a big deal, but that leaves this area as empty, potential resources to be exploited

So here is where I suggest we intergrate them, but only take the warriors.
>>
>>1187435
Because we are nomadic right now, but we could be a host descending on our enemies while at home we have everything covered

Putting the entire northern population in one place even when moving is not a good idea.
>>
>>1187435
We're all nomads, man. We take what we do, settle and absorb, then move. Resources are irrelvant. Once we unite all the tribes and shove off the purples, we can settle on lands and have alll the resources to ourself. And keep in mind we live in frozen wastes. The main resource is meat that is hunted and fish that is caught. Nothing more.
>>
>>1187443
It is when most of the north is ours. That's why we're beginning inwards. The purples are at the coast.
>>
>>1187451
WHen I say "most of ours" I mean the grays in general. The purples only have the coast. All the grey tribes not at the coast are idle, doing nothing to fight back. We unite them form within our lands and march outwards, combining our forces with those that are fighting at the coast and then we overtake the purple and make them ours as well. Understand?

Charisma is comeliness, Baba, not appearance. It's how socially adept you are.
>>
>>1189148
Nice shit my dude
>>
Here's my plan, guys. Tell me your opinion and if we should proceed.

Half a day: hunt for more food
The other half of today: recruit the next tribe to our cause
Tomorrow: split our player characters to go recruit the other tribes individually. I'm thinking me and Anonious. So we can get two tribes simultaneously in less time.
Day after tomorrow: Repeat
Day after the day after tomorrow: Anonious will continue recruiting the tribes himself while I go domesticate polar bears

At some point, we'll split the members of our tribe itself to go recruit the other tribes. Word of our growing power and purpose will make this possible. They'll likely join and then we'll amass an army. We'll along the Purple coast and proceed to the Blue land.
>>
>>1189159
If no tribal politics call for special circumstances then that sounds fine. Do we want people staying back to whip our people into shape and if so who? I would probably follow you to the bears just in case things go wrong there.
>>
>>1189159
>proceed to blue land
Hold on tiger
I say we go at the rogue shits right now, give em a good scrap, then the other tribes will be hella more willing to join us in the immediate area. Effectivley we carpet recruit the entire region, then and only then do we even concive going after the purple en masse.

Plus I wanna fight something, quicker than later.

Even if your route is safer I would still throw out the gambler's option out there
>>
>>1189163
Im the dude with the banner, might be I train the bastards into shape.

But if you are giving me liberties as to how I train our tribesmen then ill definitely use phalanxes/schiltrons, hit and run as well as prolonged manhunts as the primary purposes of war in the north. Because I think those styles of war fit the best. Obviously it would be skirmisher intensive, might take a book from the finish and have skis be standard equipment
>>
>>1189163
I have no idea if "whipping them into shape" would actually do anything. I dont think the OP takes training into factor.

Polar bears are a few days from now. They arent a main concern. Just a little boost to our fighting force before we engage in martial procedure against the purples. As for accompanying me, I currently have 86 charisma and it is continuing to grow. I should think that Id be fine, with that and having both my apprentice and companion wolf but if you want to follow, its no problem. You can certainly practice to increase your strength along the way so it wouldnt be a waste of time.

>>1189164
Loose, did you read the sentences before that? We will sweep along the purple coast and purge them from our lands--that includes the rogue tribes. We will recruit those that would survive.

> the other tribes will be hella more willing to join us in the immediate area
Without any significantly conceivable threat, no, they would not be more likely to join us. Think about it in your shoes. Would you leave your home just to screw with another's? You wouldn't. The tribes arent barbarians, we're nomads. We needs a reason to band together. Leave the purples until after we've recruited the majority. The threat to our home will be our rallying call.
>>
>>1189164
This appeals to me more on a spiritual level.
>>
>>1189170
Finnish*
>>
>>1189164
Ah also, we have 110 people, with the manpower of 51 people. A single rogue tribe is 100. A single. We aren't wasting our forces to be so reckless so soon. You can fight after we've breached the 100 threshold for combatants. I get that you want to fight though. I do too.

OP, it would be nice if you could have more Rogue tribesmen try and ambush us. I enjoyed torturing the last 3.
>>
>>1189189
