Mischief Managed: A Marauders Era Quest

Something about James and Sirius’ reckless abandon is infectious. You nod your head excitedly, a grin forming. James and Sirius both return your grin and you watch as James levitates the stone above you. He only lifts it up just so that you all can barely peer out. “Looks clear, let's go.” you say, pushing the stone so that it floats up more. You’re the first to climb out, helping James and Sirius up as quickly and quietly that you can. You study the room you're in. There's various baking ingredients everywhere and the room smells distinctly sweet. All different types of candies are stored on shelves, packed away in their boxes. “We’ve got to be in Honeydukes.” you mumble to the Gryffindors. You feel a tap on your shoulder and you quickly turn around. James motions for you to stand near him as he takes out a silver material that moves like water. You give him a surprised look; that's an invisibility cloak. No wonder they rarely get caught.


James quickly throws the cloak over the three of you. You’re covered quite well and there's enough room so that you aren't all cramped together. “Alright,” James whispers, “let's get out of here.” You all move in complete silence, not talking in fear of being caught. You luckily make it out of the basement without incident. You make your way to the main shopping area of Honeydukes and you can't help but be blown away. The entire store is filled with all types of magical candies, from Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum to Acid Pop’s. The store wasn't that busy, with only a couple families walking around the shop. A old man sits at the front of the store, looking through some catalog. You shuffle yourselves to a part of the store with no one in it. “What's the plan James?” Sirius asks. “I’d say Zonko’s, but I left my gold in my suitcase.” James replies, sounding more than just a little bit sad.

Doing cool (and possibly dangerous) stuff might make us popular with them.
Honestly, we should team up with them and kick Peter out of the Marauders. Just to mess up the timeline completely. Which sounds like a very Marauders thing to do.

You’re about to say that you should all head back when a thought comes to you. You’ve recently heard a rumor about a house in Hogsmeade. The whispers you’ve heard about it tell you that it seems to be haunted by vengeful spirits, who’ve recently started to cause a ruckus some nights of the month. The students of Hogwarts have given it a fitting name; The Shrieking Shack. You tell James and Sirius and they both readily agree that it sounds fun. You all make your way out of the candy store without any incident and once you’ve passed the remaining stores and houses, James removes the cloak. As you watch him stuff it back in his robes he explains to you it's a family heirloom and that its been with the Potter’s for as long as they can remember. You think there must be a powerful charm on it, seeing how many cloaks fade over the years, but the Potter cloak looks brand new.


The walk to the shack is relaxing. James and Sirius run ahead sometimes, throwing snowballs at each other. You can’t help but chuckle a little at them; it seems they can't ever be still. Soon, the three of you stand in front of a rundown building, the windows boarded up and the house itself surrounded by a wrought iron fence. It almost seems to sway ever so slightly, as if it's alive. You’re more than a little creeped out. “Ooo, spooky.” James says, wiggling his fingers at Sirius. Sirius rolls his eyes, studying the house intently. “Ya know, I heard it. Early this month, I heard…it” Sirius informs the both of you quitely. Both you and James look at him surprised; neither of you put much stock in the rumors. “It was terrible. It sounded like it was in pain…” Sirius finishes, drifting off omouisly. You notice James shudder, but you can't tell if it's from the cold or what Sirius said.

You shake yourself from the trance you’ve sunken into while looking at the haunted house. You take a step forward, an idea forming within your mind. “Lets break in.” you say rather plainly. You can feel the boys give you odd looks. They don’t seem to be used to Slytherins being so willing to make rash decisions. They don't seem to let it bother themselves, as they both quickly follow. You hop over the fence and walk towards the house. Even underneath all the snow, tangle roots stick out, threatening to trip you. You take your wand out and use the knockback jinx to make a more defined path. It seems the the front door is boarded up, but you don't give up hope. Checking the back, you find a door that isn’t completely boarded up. Instead, it has a large silver lock and chains placed upon it. You fire a severing charm at it, but it doesn't seem to even nick the lock.Rolling up his sleeves in an exaggerated fashion, James pushes you to aside, taking out his wand. “Watch and learn, little snake.” he teases then point his wand at the lock says “Alohomora”. There's a faint click and James turns around to give you a shit eating grin before pushing the door open. You and Sirius follow his lead. You’re at a loss for words for what you see; the entire house seems to have been in some violent natural disaster. Pieces of furniture is ripped apart, the walls covered in what looks like claw marks. You try to think why the marks look familiar, but you can’t remember where you’ve seen marks like them before. “What the hell happened here?” Sirius wonders aloud. You can't help but think the same thing.


As you get to the second floor, you notice the damage only seems to get worse. A four poster bed lays split in half, clumps of grayish brown hair here and there. Bits of a shattered mirror lay scared and the room smells like musk and something dark. You look at James and Sirius and both of them give you uneasy looks. This isn’t what any of you had been expecting. “Ghosts didn’t do this. This is much...darker” Sirius says, breaking the silence. You and James nod you head in agreement; ghosts couldn't cause damage like this. “What do you think could have done this?” James asks rhetorically. What indeed
