this is an evo type thread in which we gradually ad civilisations and monuments to our little planet here.

currently there are no countries, due to the lack of cultures to claim them. as of now there are 4 races as detailed below. you don't have to make your culture out of one of these races, its fully encouraged to make or add your own races, but for those who can't be bothered or simply don't have the imagination to come up with something can pick up one of the presets and make it there own.

this is a fantasy setting by the way, so magic does exist to some extant.

at the end of each day I'll check in to see whats happened and choose what to and what not too canonise, for example if suddenly a race of superhumans who eat cheese and fart fire emerges from the depths of mount doom then chances are it'll be scratched from the books and never be spoke of again.

the Ygari are a race of small green skinned creatures known for looking like a shaved vulture with the face of a beaten up pig. despite their appearance they are peaceful creatures who live in small covens in the forest with no intent of taking anything other then what they need. they are very skilled with magic.

incredibly scared of fire, but they can see in the dark. practically immune to disease
>>
pure blooded elves, with fair pail skin, slanted eyes and pointed ears. proud of there skill with magic, although admitedly no where near as good as ygari, something they are ashamed of, and also despise the Ygari for.

some how always find themselves in high positoins of authority, true elves are very smart and are brilliant with democracy
>>
Psurmerian man is the most primitive form of man. dark skinned in and relatively tall for men, they are not as smart as elves but they are definitely stronger. they are almost entirely magically inept. they are incredibly religious.

very resilient, they aren't bothered by extreme cold or extreme heat any where as much as other races.
>>
Dwellings are blue skinned reptilians who live underground in massive cave societies. they are entirely magically inept, although this doesn't matter as they despise magic in all of its forms.

they are simple farmers at heart however they are unnaturally strong and fast, although years of living underground has left them vulnerable to disease and the elements of the surface

The Ooga Boogas are a group of small pygmies, ordinary to midgets in every way except their faces take the shape of giant wooden tiki masks. Some theorize that the Ooga Boogas aren't really human at all but instead are tiki spirits. They live on the center island, which is THEIR island, and will fight tooth and nail to defend it. Their shamans are gifted in tribal magic and although they are physically weak they are quick and nimble.

Monument: on top of a mountain there is a colossal stone cylinder. It is unknown if it was artificially created or if its a bizarre natural formation, but plenty of superstition as formed around it (water flowing from it can heal ailments, a higher power uses it to sit every now and then, chipping its surface will curse your family, ect).
There was even a small war fought over this weird giant rock at some point.

The Horka bork are a barbaric and warlike race race of gray skinned humanoid beings, their faces are dog like in nature the crown of their heads covered in horns. they live in the tundras of the north away from the other races. they are giants and immortals when compared to the other races

The horka bork hate magic with a vengeance as none of them can use them but oddly enough they're resistant to most forms of magic. Another odd thing with them is that they seem to grow stronger and along with their lifespan the more of their kin they eat this has led to their numbers to be few however those that do survive through the years are gigantic, rumor has it that the fathers of the horka bork is as large as the mountains of the north though some say. though their numbers may be few but with every start winter the surviving
horka borks mate like rabbits pumping out babies each week, before eating them of course though those that survive have a good chance of living to the ripe old age of 140 years old

How 'bout this for a monument?

At the top of Mount Hungabunga on Ooga Booga Island, there exists a magical talking stone head. It mostly tells bad jokes, but once in a while it gives prophecies of future events that almost always come true. It is the Ooga Booga tribe's most valued treasure and the reason why the Ooga Booga guard Ooga Booga Island so fiercely.

scattered around the plantkin islands are largeish stone structures made of perfectly smooth, rounded stone. They are shaped into connected spirals, similar to snail shells. From the openings to these "cornucopias" flows a seemingly infinite amount of living plant matter. It is thought by some that these were used by a previous civilization as a food source, although a more radical theory states that they are actually the source of all life on Scaralan.

By the time he finally dies, a significant fraction of Psumerians live under his empire. The territory of this new country, now called Pakkadia, stretches from the coast near the Ooga-Booga island well into the continent, mostly along the equator.

The pure elves have a large population in the northeast forests around the pillar, as they in particular regard it as a holy relic made specifically for them to claim and exploit to finally cleanse the world of the filthy Ygari. Despite this, they are still massively divided on who exactly should have access to the pillar; as a result, while they technically have a civilization, it is really just an incredibly loose group of tribes and cities that have reached a balance wherein no single member can claim the mountain for themselves. The only thing they truly agree on is banding together to defend their holy site, and occasionally go on Ygari crusades.

The Urpeans are squat, hairy people who mainly subsist off of fishing, as the ground in the south is hard and it is often too cold to grow crops. The major exception is a species of mildly hallucinogenic fungus, called Cordyspark, whose roots they have learned to purify and consume in order to achieve a mystical trance. In this state, they become superhumanly wise and knowledgable; they cannot see the future, but they can predict it with great accuracy given the right knowledge. This is the main form of "magic" that they use, although they have yet to harness it's full potential and mostly use the trance as an opportunity for spiritual contemplation. They live in long huts clustered closely together, each of which houses an extended family and is kept warm by lighting a fire at one end and letting the heat travel through an underground passage. They are known for their fine carving skills, specializing in bone and even more in constructing small trinkets out of many tiny fishbones. They rarely hunt, and mostly fish through the use of cage traps or spearfishing. The land they inhabit is pockmarked in rings of standing stones, each of which is precisely built around various celestial objects. It is traditional for wise men to consume large quantities of concentrated Cordspark and spend days observing the movements of the heavenly bodies. Finally, they raise small rodents, named Cuy, as pets, using them mostly as a status symbol since they are good for little else except a quick meal.

they don't really have villages because they travel around a lot but they do have this one magical place deep in the forest of their island. this place is a giant plateau rising above the green sea that is the jungle, In which thousands of caves from past generations of jams are carved into. once a year all jams travel to this holy site for a week to teach eachother about new creatures, magic, ideas etc.

For millions of years, the Gneep were just a species of animal living in the deserts of the south-east island, but thanks to evolving a specialized psychic organ on the back of it's head, the Gneep has developed both sapience and the ability to use magic.
The Gneep's magic is not very powerful and can't do things like "seeing the future" or "summoning forest spirits", but it can be used for telekinesis, which is very handy to the Gneeps because they have no natural hands with which to manipulate things.
The Gneep has the senses of sight, sound and touch. They usually use their wings to fly, but can use telekinesis to do so if their wings are injured. They have two genders and the females lay eggs.
Because they have only recently developed sapience, their communities are not very developed yet.

jam and plantkin are good friends, each integrating the other race into their religious beliefs. The plantkin believe that the jam are able to summon the spirits of their distant ancestors, and often trade with them in exchange of "seances". The jam, for their part, have little in terms of concrete religion; however, they do believe that the plantkin are close, trustworthy allies and that both species were meant to work together.

Dwelling have the most developed society of all of the races, as they are forced into close proximity to each other and have no real way to escape. They are organized into a pyramid of hierarchal castes, starting with the large slave population and going up to the council of 14 god-emperors (or empresses), which is the only caste awarded based on merit and not birth. Instead, the previous caste of high-level bureaucrats will vote on who they believe is the most capable among them, awarding the position for life. Aside from this, it is impossible to move between castes, and marriage between them is punishable by the death of both the couple and their families. Because of this, the different groups of Dwellings are starting to show genetic differences, mostly minor cosmetic changes. Finally, in terms of monuments, they build massive underground tombs to each and every dead ruler from the council, which contain statues representing every subject that died under their rule (think terra-cotta warriors).

Being incredibly religious, the Psurmerian man develops a visual representation of religious status. Now the Psurmerians deemed holy are given a bronze helmet and two connected chest belts. Both these pieces of clothing have a bronze circle on them, signifying the sun, which the Psurmerians worship. The helmet also provides protection in battle, but rather than deducing that metallic headwear is good at protecting your head, the Psurmerian man thinks that the higher survival rate is a blessing of the sun.

The Psumerians also worship their founder, who I'm going to call Senkidu from now on. When he died, the Psumerians decided to build a monument in his honor. They spent decades constructing a massive city-tomb, full of statues exalting him, artwork depicting his famous battles, and relics from his time on earth. They pooled their meager magical talents to make this city levitate, believing that Senkidu deserved to be the closest thing on earth to the sun. If they were ever to find out about the Pure elves pillar, it would almost certainly lead to a holy war of unprecedented scale.
The city-tomb is populated entirely by monks, whose sole purpose in life is the upkeep of the city and the worship of their great founder. These monks are selected from birth for their magical talent and spend their first few decades learning about the life of Senkidu, and spend their days meditating on the glory of the sun and the will of the king, as well as trying to keep the city afloat. They technically control the entire empire, as it is their job to interpret the will of Senkidu; however, since they are kept entirely sealed off from the rest of the world, the orders they give are almost always either very vague or very stupid. When a monk dies, his body is composted to help fertilize the hanging gardens that cover the holy city.

>>1072320
The desert island that the Gneep inhabit is cut off from the rest of the world, and is mostly populated by a variety of giant insect life. Until the Gneep came along, evolution on this island was mostly focused on defense, with organisms evolving massive shells and inches-thick skin to survive. The Gneep, however, can ignore this entirely and use their telekinesis to "reach" inside prey to, say, blend its brain to a fine paste. Because of this, the Gneep have abandoned their previous lifestyle as small pack hunters and become solitary apex predators.
>>
>>1072410
Because the deserts don't have a lot of water, multiple Gneeps are usually found near the same oasis. And because their telekinesis makes both defense and hunting very easy, they often have a lot of free time. Due to these two factors, the Gneeps start developing social behaviours in which they pass time, and with them, language. The Gneep language has an alphabet of 6 letters, each corresponding to one of the 6 distinctive sounds the Gneep can produce. Thanks to this, the Gneep have started to share their knowledge with other Gneep. This has led to them developing a primitive culture.
>>
>>1072426
When the population of Gneeps around a single source of water becomes too big, half of it is exiled and forced to find another oasis. Sometimes they cannot find a non-populated oasis, resulting in a fight between two groups.

The Ooga-Booga have a simple language derived entirely from the words of the stone face; since they cannot make facial expressions, they rely heavily on gestures and tone to get their point across. No one knows where they came from; some believe they are tiki spirits, some think they are degenerate offspring of human and plantkin, some think they are just humans who really like masks.
The Ooga-Booga, for their part, don't really care about all that nonsense; for them, it is clear that they came into being to inhibit their island, just as the island was created solely for them to live on.

The helmets are succesfully replaced by hats, but they do not provide the protection of helmets. The Psurmerians are confused by this new development. in response to this, the pakkadians form a group of politicians whose job it is to "interpret" the messages that the monks send. In practice, this means stretching the exact wording of the commandmants in order to get what they want. These leaders are massively corrupt, however, and often focus more on personal gain than the will of the king or good of the empire.
The neo-senkiduists believe that the king is able to speak through each person, regardless of status. They have no leaders or real organization; for the time being, however, this is in their favor, as they have no central authority for the government to fight against. They are able to fight a guerilla war against the capital, and are fairly successful.
The stone head, meanwhile, decrees that the Psumerians are between a rock and a hard place; with no means of leans of the situation in Pakkadia, his attendants fail to get the joke.

While most Psurmerians have attributed the lower armor quality to the will of god or the treachery of the monks, one particular Pakkadian officer by the name of Armel the Cunning thought differently. He had a particular theory on the reason of the armor's weakness. To test his theory, he has bought eight animal skins the hats were made of and eight bronze panels. He then struck each animal skins and each plate with his sword. While the animal skins were turned into bits, the bronze plates were still intact. This had proved his theory correct: the reason behind the armor's weakness was not the will of god, but the material it was made of!
The next day, he had started forging a new set of armor for each member of his squadron. It was hard work, but Armel's father was a blacksmith and had taught him how to shape bronze. In a week all squadron members had a new set of armor.
In the next battle with the Ooga Booga, only one of the soldiers under Armel's command has fallen, while other squadrons have suffered heavy casualties.
When the generals decided to see why Armel was so succesful, he presented them his new type of armor.
What is the reaction of the generals?
>>
>>1072652
How did you imagine them, then? I based the drawing off of your description, so they shouldn't be far off from what you were thinking, right?
>>
>>1072474
The Ooga-Booga are pretty outclassed by the Pakkadian empire; however, they do have several benefits. First, they are fighting a mostly defensive war, as they are more interesting in keeping their island to themselves than retaliating. Second, the brewing civil war is sapping the strength of the Psumerian army, as well as making them disorganized. Finally, they are at home in the dense jungles on the island, and are used to hunting in them; their enemy, however, has trained for large-scale battles between evenly matched armies on open ground.
With all of these dead bodies lying around, the Ooga-Booga begin to adorn themselves in teeth and skulls as a status symbol. They also decorated their spears and blowguns with them, and use the much larger bones of the Psumerians as clubs and such.
>>
>>1072655
they wait for the monks to make a decree, eg the politicians to decide what to do. If they agree it undermines their power, if not they lose a strategic asset. In the end, they adopt the armor and have Armel quietly killed, taking the idea as proof of Senkidus ultimate divine knowledge.

The new sturdy armor placates the Neo-Senkiduists somewhat, although some suspect that this time the government actually did something without the advice of Senkidu.
Even more think that the death of Armel did not, in fact, happen by the hands of Ooga Booga, but was orchestrated by the government.
The atmosphere in the cities of Pakkadia grows uneasier as the government declares the creation of the Pakkadian Inquisition, allegedly for the safety of citizens but in reality to seek out Neo-Sankiduists and execute them.
The Stone Head says that the inquisition was not expected. Ooga Boogas do not get the reference.

The Ygarui live mostly in the forests to the south of Pakkadia, although they are t=spread around most of the continent. The Ooga-Booga manage to talk a few covens of them into coming over to their island, using the immense magical talent they possess to help in the battle for control of the island. The Ygari, being a peaceful race, are only willing to heal the wounded and help fortify the forests, but this still helps balance out the war after the new armor is introduced.
The stone head says that this fight will be long and tuff, but they will surely survive. His attendants look confusing, so he explains that a tuff is a type of rock made of volcanic ash ejected from a vent during a volcanic eruption.

With the introduction of Plantkin and Jam colonists, the Gneep meet other intelligent species for the first time ever. They don't really know what to do, as they cannot talk to them and are not used to dealing with such large groups of people. The idea of tool use is also new to them, and they have trouble understanding why these new people are unable to truly touch the world around them, something the Gneep see as an inseparable part of consciousness. Nevertheless, they have an uneasy peace for the time being, with no real reason to trust or distrust the strange foreigners.
For their part, the displaced colonists are more worried about survival. They are adapted for life in forests or plains, not desert and ice. They are forced to rely on each other to get by, with the plantkin coaxing crops to grow from the dry ground and the Jam forimg hunting parties to try to take down some of the lesser-armored insects.

While the colonists were shaken (both mentally and physically) by the destructive power of the weapon, the Gneep saw the lake as the greatest opportunity their race has had so far. Immediately, the construction begins. While before all the Gneep built were small huts, with this much water in one place they could satisfy the thirst of thousands, and all those thousands need a place to live in, after all.
The Gneep create their first hive-city.
The Stone Head reminisces about building sand castles back when it was called the Pebble Head.

This new city leads to a new way of life, as they are forced to learn to deal with having hundreds of other people around them all the time, as opposed to a few dozen. They become a bit more social. The city has some trouble sustaining its population, as the Gneep still feed by hunting wild animals. The stranded colonists step in to help, domesticating a species of large millipede and using the hardy crops the Plantkin have bred to feed them.

As time has passed, the old underground cities from which the original dwelling societies sprung forth have grown and merged into the Great underground metropolis of Dargos. This has become the capital/seat of the Great Dwelling Bureaucracy. While the Bureaucracy's dominion is wast in size, one has to remember that all of this is underground. Many sentients live their entire lifes above it, never making contact with it or seeing a Dwelling. Only those adventurous and foolhardy enough to travel down into the vast cave-systems have a chance of meeting them.

Out of desperation The feeble Horka Bork Grufftang Mnagh and his children whom he refused to eat out of compassion moved into the mountains south of the Northern tundra and into the mountains there he fathered the first of the Morka Borks and founded the city of Gruffholm in the center of the mountain range he aptly named the mountains of Mnagh. After years of slumber the father of giants had awoken and he hungered for the flesh of his kin, one by one the lesser horka borks were eaten and by the end of the the first day the father of giants had grown two trees taller than tallest mountain of Gruffs range. As Psumerians spread out in the world, and among other things founding a colony next to the Great Dwelling Bureaucracy, some of them come in contact with the Dwellings. This is the start of a amicable relationship as the two races start to trade with each other. Both sides find that they have much in common, such as hatred of other magic using races and a disdain for plebs.

Through this interaction the Dwellings trade minerals for dyes and fabric. Since cloth is very rare and valuable amongst the Dwellings only the most influential Bureaucrat caste members wears clothing.

The Dwellings do not worship any gods or deities, instead they follow the ideals of efficiency and effectiveness. Those who have excelled in these things are often venerated by the Dwelling society. It is also therefore those who get chosen as Godly Emperors or The God-Emperor-Down-Below always have to fulfill these ideal.

Effectiveness - Doing the right things
Efficiency (Productivity) - Doing things right

To help combat this, the develop a simple system of sewers and running water, powered by water from the surface and routed into the deep and vast caverns that even the dwelling fear to explore.

I wonder how this would effect culture. It's a fairly simple concept that has all kinds of implications.

A freak cosmic occurrence has created a magical rift through the fabric of reality. On either side of the continent on otherwise unused land, a swirling gateway of light has appeared. Stepping through either of these gateways is as if stepping directly through a veil, and one will emerge in the same direction from the other gateway.

These gateways are around 100 meters across, impossibly flat, and intersect with the ground at their center, making them appear as a semicircle of swirling light coming up out of the earth. Their faces point exactly east and west. Passing through these gateways is instantaneous and exerts no extra opposing force, as if the two places exist side by side. Any object that comes in contact with either of the gateways edges will be split as they are nearly 2-dimensional.

Will these gateways lead to war? Peace? Trade? Travel?

The first through the portals are the Ygari, who are the main inhabitants of the forests in the eastern part of the continent. Until now, they have had trouble migrating past the Psumerians and Ooga-Booga. Now they can easily step through the portal and appear on the exact opposite side of the world. They quickly colonize the western forests, their population growing to previously unheard of numbers. Despite this, they still live in simple communities in the forest.
The Pure Elves, however, have a pretty big problem with this. Until now, they had managed to deal with the Ygari and their superior magic by putting them out of mind and going on the occasional crusade, but with them suddenly migrating so close to the coalition it is no longer possible. The elves begin preparing for a holy war of massive proportions.

Going to bs some stuff on elf culture for shits and giggles.
Elves are, first and foremost, diplomatic but duplicitous. They generally dislike dealing with other races, but when they must they use their cunning and charm to always get the better end of the deal. To help this, they have an innate form of magic that makes them appear much better looking than they truly are. In reality, they look more like pic related than a bunch of androgynous supermodels. The only ones who can see through this are, of course, the Ygari; the only reason that they haven't told the rest of the world is that they don't really care that much, seeing as they already think that all other races look kind of stupid.
The elves live in sprawling but sparsely populated towns, in buildings made of mostly wood with stone in the higher-class dwellings. As you move closer and closer to the pillar itself, the houses are made more predominately out of stone, and the upper echelons of Pure Elf society typically live in homes carved out of the mountains themselves. However, the cities also become more dense as you ascend, as the elves do not trust each other enough to not go and claim the pillar for themselves. The most powerful elves, therefore, live in small, cramped caves, while the poor live in secluded country estates.
In terms of government, the elves are mostly organized in terms of wealth and social power rather than ability, with rich merchants and such at the top and slaves at the bottom. They have no system of banking, as they are unwilling to trust someone else with their money, but also because they really would just steal it as soon as possible. This somewhat limits the power that one person can amass; given how easy it is for sibling rivalries and backstabbing to ruin an inheritance, elf society is surprisingly socially mobile.
They mostly eat a crop similar to wheat, made into flatbreads or pastries, supplemented by heavily spiced meat stews made from a large flightless bird that they raise for food and transport.

The pookas, a race of fun-loving mischievous goblins who come in a variety of skin colors. Males are either light green or light blue, while females are either pink or light purple. They live primarily in the forests on the northwestern part of the main continent. They greatly enjoy pranking other races (and themselves) and often get into trouble this way, but are otherwise harmless creatures who bear no ill intentions. If confronted, the pookas will typically hide in the woods (they are very good at hiding) until the threat passes. But above all, the pookas are the best in the world at making hats. They wear hats all the time and it is an integral part of their culture. Most of their hats they like to wear are silly, like them.

Now to explain the structure of Dwelling Society.

Originally the Dwellings lived in fourteen independent major societies. Each of these societies had one ruling God Emperor, who was chosen by the Council consisting of members of the Aristocrat/Bureaucrat/Noble Caste. The God Emperor was worshiped by its subjects, having monuments made in its honour, such as gigantic tombs and terracotta sculptures for its burial. The Societies were primarily divided into the Aristocrate Caste and the Slave Caste.

As the societies got more organized, in part due to the development of writing, and as the societies grew into cities which grew until many of them merged with other, the societies united under the Great Dwelling Bureaucracy.

With time a different governmental structure started to come into being. Nowadays the supreme ruler of the Dwellings is the God-Emperor-Down-Below (GEDB), while not thought of as an actual supernatural god it is still worshipped by its subjects. The GEDB serves for life from Dargos and is elected by the fourteen Godly Emperors. These either rule over their own cities or over the parts of Dargos that previously/historically were separate cities. These Godly Emperors rule for life and are in turn elected by their respective Aristocratic Councils based on merit. The Council has its seats divided into four parts which represent societal roles/castes. As long as you're not born into the slave cast you chose what occupation/caste you want to take in society. Every occupation is "legally" equal in the eyes of society, but some jobs are considered more illustrious than others. It is possible to climb in rank within these occupation based on merit.

The Occupations are:

The Scribes: Springing from the Sculptor caste with the advent of writing, these have many important roles in society today. Such as bookkeeping, Writing down legally binding declarations by the council and emperors and the writing of the Great Dwelling Bureaucracy's history.

The Sculptors: These originally only had the role of crafting terracotta sculptures of dead citizens for the emperors' burial tombs as well as the construction of monuments deemed to important to be handled by the slave caste. With time the sculptors have also become to society's merchants.

The Testudo Guard: This is the military/defence force of the emperor. All in all there are fourteen armies, one under each emperor/under each city.

Others: Those who don't really fit in to any of the other occupations. Here you find some of the landed elites as well as Farm Overseers (since the Dwellers originate from farmers these are often time the same).

At the bottom we find the Slave Caste. They generally serve under all of the other occupations, with the exception of the Testudo Guard (Training slaves in combat and arming them? are you mad?). They also have no say in the Council.

Retconning the father of giants eating the urps
>>1074517
Whilst The sons of gruff furthered their technological might Bortok the foolhardy entered the cavernous maws of ice where it is said that his people first came to be and deep inside the cavern was the father of giants towering over him despite the fact he was the size of a mountain. In his hubris Bortok decided to feast upon his forefather awakening the mighty beast of a Horka in the following years The horkas of the north were hunted one by one by their forefather and the last that weren't eaten fled to the Gruff mountains and swore fealty to King Grufftang, finding the four great clans beneath the gruff.

The first to bend the knee to the Gruffs were House Bortok let by Bortok The dishonored, Shamed and looked down by the other houses Grufftang gave him mercy and condemned him and his kin to guard against the father of giants who now slowly though surely headed for the mountains until they could find an escape from the father of giants. The second House Fargannath led by Fargannok the curious, who would go on and master the arts of smithing and the Ironworks going as far as to found the city of Blackstone, an impenetrable fortress built out of steel and iron and is said to be able to weather any storm here House Bortok is to hold the line against the father of giants. The third House Portsmith led by Portmouth the wanderer, A very dull bunch but they would go on and find the shores of the mainland and finding the city of Portsmaw, they will become instrumental in the following years. The fourth House Slavenbor led by Slavenhor, The house that would find the city of Slavenhold and GoldenField after settling the grasslands and mastered the art of agriculture and city building and for a time The kingdom of gruff lived in peace and harmony until father came.

King Grufftang Mnagh the wise had foreseen this and House Portsmith had built great ships to that will allow them to cross the blue divide and allow the Horkas to settle the lands Far to the north of the Great dwelling Bureaucracy. Meanwhile Bortok and his kin fought tooth and nail against their father holding him back for the time being though the great walls of blackstone shall not last forever and soon the father of giants will break through blackstone and wreak havoc to the world.

While both keep slaves, the difference in how they are treated reveals much about Dwelling and Pure Elf society. For pure elves, "slavery" is really just indentured servitude, and with enough work can be escaped within a lifetime. However, it is seen in a similar way to how some people view homelessness today: a result of either laziness or lack of usefulness. Thus, while almost anyone can become a slave, those who do are treated like subhuman (...subelven?) crap.
Dwellings, meanwhile, recognize the slave caste as just another part of society, fundamentally little different than the aristocrats or even the god emperor themself. The main reason they cannot take part in councils is because it would be too much work to educate them on the vast and intricate bureaucracy that lets society function. Thus, while slavery is impossible to ever hope to escape from, slaves are treated pretty well and have a good deal of personal agency, being paid fairly and allowed to choose what to spend money on.

The Pooka live loose, semi-nomadic tribes of related individuals. They are short-lived, and will become incredibly close with the rest of the tribe in the couple of decades they spend on Scaralan.
They usually only settle down in one place for a single generation, staying just long enough to grow a shit ton of dye for haberdashery and then packing up a migrating around for a few years. During this time they will trade members with other tribes and explore the world. It is during this time that most young Pooka are born and raised, and they begin the long process of making their first hat, drawing inspiration from the many new sights and people they meet.
The hats that they make are considered deeply personal, reflecting the very core of the wearers soul; since Pooka are very silly, however, their hats are pretty silly too.
They are mostly carnivores, as seen by their teeth, but also like eating sweet fruits and berries when they can. They don't hunt, instead setting simple traps around the forest. Pooka tribes always, always eat together; generally, they value the amount and variety of food over how well prepared it is.
Since they don't hunt, most of the time the Pooka spend not farming dye or making hats is spent coming up with fun pranks to play on other tribemembers. Since they are very good at working with textiles, they love pranks that let them make costumes to dress up in. Since this is such a common activity, they have to get very creative to successfully pull it off. They also like messing with the Ygari that live to the south, as the peaceful forest-dwellers are very gullible.

The jams were fascinated about the great amount of hats and wanted to buy a great amount of them, but the pookas, who saw tree spirits guiding the jams through the forest, had a better idea. This was to, trade a shaman for a great hatmaker, these two would teach the others about their skills and learn about eachothers cultures.

After a few months the shaman and the hatmaker returned to their tribes. This resulted in a hatmaker school in the land of the jams where young crafty jams are taught how to make hats with magical properties and a shaman school in the lands of the pooka where pookas are taught how to summon and talk to tree spirits. The Jam and Plantkin colonists continue to adapt to their desert environment.
The plantkin grow a thick skin to deal with moisture loss, and thorns and strong claws to help defend against the ravenous wild insects. They also have smaller eyes to minimize water loss.
The jam change color to blend in with the desert, grow thin eyes and longer eyelashes and get tufts of hair in their ears to keep sand out, and learn to summon bigger spirits. These new spirits are much better at hunting the well-armored insects, but the plantkin seem put off by this change. The tree spirits are supposed to be the spirits of their ancestors, not weapons of violence.

The Dwelling have grown used to dealing with the small, separate city-states of Psumerians that live above them. The introduction of Pakkadian merchants is somewhat of a groundbreaking moment in their history, pun intended. For the first time, they have direct contact with an empire rivaling theirs in size, as opposed to the vague stories of the much smaller elf coalition that sometimes filtered down.
This is difficult for them to deal with at first, as it upsets the preconceived notions about the proper order of the universe that Dwelling society had long held to be self-evident: other races may form small groups, but only they had the organization and intelligence to make an empire. Is it possible that they were wrong? Might they not be the true rulers of the Scaralan, merely tolerated the existence of other species?
As more information about Pakkadia comes to light, however, their fears are somewhat laid to rest: stories of civil unrest, corruption, pointless bloodshed, and rulership by divine right instead of merit. It seems they are the rightful inheritors of the planet after all, and the surface dwellers are mere shadows of the perfection that is The Bureaucracy.
The god-emperors decide that, for now, they will continue their policy of trade with the surface.

After another battle near the Crater Sea, an explosion underwater caused by leakage of explosive gases throws an object to the shore: A segmented, golden sphere of enormous size, with a door, a golden, resting face and some implements not seen by any denizens of this planet before on the frontmost segment.

A group of cartographers, scholars, prophets, and philosophers from different races and walks of life have come together to form the Order of Knowledge and build the Scientarium; an immense library/fortress used for the collection and protection of truth and knowledge. Within the walls of the Scientarium, the Order of Knowledge have gathered countless scrolls, tomes, maps, and writings from all across the globe. Their collective mastery of science and magic have helped them to create a near impenetrable stronghold to keep their knowledge safe.

While the group claims that their cause is right, their methods have been a bit extreme at times and the agendas of individuals have woven a web of corruption within their ranks.

The Dwellings have since they came into existence farmed underground Fungi/Mushrooms as well as the many different kinds of glowing fruits that grow down in the dark. The fruit plants can be found nearly everywhere in the GDB, growing in orchards and also growing in growing on the streets of the cities, where they function as street lights. The more well off Dwellings also grow them in pots to light up their abodes, while the less well-off purchase them in the market and keep them in light-bowls until they go dark and start to rot.

The Pakkadian marvel when they first see these fruits on the markets of Teselli (for they are not allowed to travel through the Dwelling tunnels). It appears these strange fruits have been blessed by Senkidu and carry pieces of the sun within them! The Dwellings who have heard of the mysterious golden object offer Teselli's entire year's harvest of glowing fruits in exchange for the object, and the Corrupt elites of Pakkadia gladly accept the trade.

The result: The Dwelling scribes of Teselli now have the object in their possesion and are researching it to discover it's purpose. The Pakkadian elites now feast on Glowing fruits during their nearly unending partiers.

The Pakkadians discover that a pale orange-yellow crystal, commonly used by the Dwelling to make simple knives and cheap jewelry, can by polished and used to bend and focus light. They quickly integrate these stones into their solar religion. It is believed that these stones, called Heliodor, house fragments of a second sun, which was destroyed and now exists as the moon, a pale (pun intended) imitation of its former glory. They also begin a tradition of extinguishing all fires in the empire on the eve of the new year, rekindling them with the concentrated light of the sun at the dawn of a fresh year. Additionally, it becomes a status symbol to have some functional object made of polished Heliotrope: for instance, a basic telescope, a staff or necklace with a crystal to light fires, or eyeglasses to correct vision.
Rather than bringing the two societies together, this only increases the unease that the Psumerian people fell towards the Dwelling. They were already seen as slightly unnatural, as they lived away from the suns nourishing light. Not explicitly evil, of course, but it seemed like they were slightly "off" somehow. Now however, they suspect that the ancestors of the Dwelling may have had something to do with the shattering of the moon; how else could it come to be that they, who lived in the shadow, would be gifted with fragments of the sun itself? Tensions rise, especially since the Dwelling merchants seem to be becoming increasingly patronizing and mocking of Pakkadian traders.

the jams create a calendar system to organise better and stuff. the system has 8 years that circulate
from the tree clockwise:
-year of the tree (brown)
-year of the plateau (grey)
-year of the life (red)
-year of the sky (blue)
-year of the soil (brown)
-year of the air (grey)
-year of the fire (red)
-year of the sea (blue)
as you might've noticed, there are 4 colors. these 4 colors circulate eachother as well (in the same way as the seasons) the years with the same color have a special relationship:
-blue: between the sea and the sky is the earth (middle point of life and the calendar)
-trees and plants need soil to grow and soil needs trees and plants to exist
-the plateau is made by the air and the air is shaped by the plateau (this is what the jams believe)
-alive animals are warm and so is fire.
besides the 8 years there are 4 seasons:
-spring (plants grow up from the soil, brown)
-summer (a lot of rain, blue)
-fall (red leaves fall down from the tree, red)
-winter (snow falls from the sky, grey)
the seasons are also split but have no official names yet besides first spring, second spring etc.

the jams carved this calendar in the giant plateau to always remember it

Dream demons
They take on spiritual forms and they inhabit the minds of sentient beings. They multiply by feeding of the negative emotions of their host. Has their name implies they occasionally give nightmare to their hosts and on rare occasions full out night terrors. When a dream demon inhabits a being that is truly evil then it can suck out its life energy (killing it) and then uses it to create a physical body for itself. Physical dream demons take on many different shapes and sizes and are extremely strong and skilled in many forms of magic. A dream demon can only be truly killed with magic whether it taking on a spiritual or physical form

A new twist! The meteorite has opened up a small cavern on the island in the middle of the lake. A small unit of Pakkadian soldiers finds this island and descends into the cavern. There, they find a ruined city, evidence of some forgotten Dwelling empire. The city is obviously millennia old, most of it crumbled to dust long ago. What has be left intact seems to be composed of the same metal as >>1077364, with similar markings and implements. Before a full survey can even be conducted, the Senate declares that a message has come from the monks, telling them to abandon the fight with the Ooga-Booga in order to invade the GDB.
This order proves to be the final straw for the Neo-Senkiduists. They gain even more support, and organize a mass migration through the portal. Once through, they travel across the sea to the southern portion of the western continent. Here, the pilgrims found a new state, known as Pabyssinia. They do not worship the "king", instead refining their former beliefs to say that anyone is able to commune with and be inspired by the sun.

Out of nowhere a giant group of pakkadian immigrants came through the portals. after a week or so they see the giant group sailing towards the horizon. the jams and plantkin take their chance a at nightfall they sneak towards the boats and steal a dozen of them. but the pakkadian took notice after a while and because of the poor sailing skills of the jams and plantkins, 5 of the 12 boats are stollen back. the other 7 sail towards the east where they find a small landbridge connecting 2 continents. there they build a new town called gnepia in honor of the gneep that helped them.

here they develop better sailing skills and start to train more in combat, leaving a big part of their previous culture behind.

Spiritual form on top, some examples of physical forms on bottom. Dreamons can choose when to create a physical form, with the size and power being proportional to the energy they have amassed; once in the material realm, however, they cannot enter dreams and so will slowly lose power until their concrete form is unsustainable and they revert to incorporeal beings.

As the Pakkadian army steps through the gate to invade their new enemy, the first thing they see is not Dwellings or even the local Ygari. No, instead they are faced with elves, thousands/hundreds of them (how big are the populations in of the different races?). It's the army that is supposed to signal the beginning of the Elven crusade against the sub-races. What was supposed to be a one on one war instead turns into a three-sided conflict as the different armies make battle on the fields around the East Gateway.

A development has taken place amongst the elves for this to happen, for such a selfish race to organize cooperate with each-other. Five years ago Erebong of house Twinklespark became the ruling tyrant of the coalition, grabbing control in a violent coup. One of the most adept in magic, few could stand against him. He now rules with an pink silk-gloved fist, styling himself the Witch Master. While he loves dressing faboulously, he detest hiding his through face with glamours.

It is strange that none saw all of this coming, seeing as he had a gigantic statue of himself in the post-sitting-stone style ordered built on a hill outside of the city. It is made of several metal pipes coiled together. The statue holds his family weapon, The Gold Giver, as well as a representation of the elves latest secret weapon, similar to the the that blew the giant hole in the Gneep island. On the hill he has had a glowing message written to all of the other sub-races of the world.

Up until this point the Dwelling civilization has made several advancements. With techniques such as Total Quality Management, Kaiban and Lean Production, they've improved their organisation. This has allowed them to quickly crank out iron weapons with low fault rates when "the troubles" (i.e. the war) began. With an increased burden on the population in terms of needed work, the Godly Emperors and the Councils have decreed that bonuses shall be rewarded at the end of every month when budgeted targets are achieved or passed, in the hopes of lowering the disatisfaction amongst the slave caste in particular. Some cities have even offered pardons and large salaries to the rebels who are willing to switch sides and take on the job of assasinating Pakkadian and Elven leaders and scouting for armies.

The God-Emperor-Down-Below has for a couple of weeks removed himself from society and has just today showed himself again to the public. During this time he gone through the arcane (not the magical arcane) rituals in hushed tongues called SWOT analysis and Porterius Five Forces, to bring about a strategy for how the GDB should proceed in the future.

He has come to the following conclusions:

The Psumerians of Pabyssinia should be forgiven for what their Pakkadian brethren have done and an favourable alliance should be offered.

The Gate is an abomination sprung from magic and should have been destroyed when it first came into existance. The combined Dwelling armies should therefore have as a goal to somehow destroy it/render it unusable, if they so are forced to burrow underneath it or create a chasm around it too deep and too wide to cross by ordinary means.

The GEDB finally decrees against the will of many of the Godly Emperors, that a new caste will from today be created. In many societies in the real world lawyers are on average closer genetically to each other and other white collar workers than too blue collar workers. This can be seen as the result of what often happens in a meritocratic society, the children more oftn than not take on the same jobs as their parents. And so it continues. Due to this, the Testudo Guard is genetically almost as distanced from the other Dwellings as they are from the Slave Caste, they are larger, stronger and horned. The Testudo Guards will become recognised as its own caste, The Warrior Caste. This caste, however, will remain open and not closed off by blood. Dwellings of the Slave caste are allowed to serve beneath this cast, unlike how it was with the Testudo Guard, and those who serve for half a Dwelling lifetime are given the right to join the Warrior Caste, with the right to have their say in the council. As a compromise with the naysayers the ex-slaves and their future offspring will only have half a vote each.

A note on the handles of the weapons and tools the Dwellings use: They are generally made from the bones of Cave Skruckers, a hostile alien-looking creature that is abundant in the Dark Depths below

Wizards are a species of humanoid magic users who are generally hated and driven out of civilized places, or at least treated like trash. They are exclusively male, and reproduce by magically creating new adult wizards.
Wizards have a tenuous grasp on reality at the best of times, which increases their magical potential but makes them dangerous and uncontrollable, hence why they are disliked. This has also tainted all magic in the views of many other races. It is thought that they are distant cousins to the Urpeans. Wizard magic is fairly potent, about on par with the Ygari; they focus on conjuration and luck/fate manipulation.
They are nearly immortal, but usually get themselves killed (or kill themselves, on purpose or accidentally) after a few centuries. Because of this, they have a very small population spread out across the entire world.
The Order of Knowledge has overcome the deep distaste they have for Wizardkind and begun experiments to try to create a Wizard who can be communicated with in a rational manner, but so far all they have done is get a lot of their research staff stuck with really stupid curses.

They use this for heat and light, but have to be careful as it is fairly explosive in large amounts. The Order organizes hunting parties to the far north, aided by their superior cartography. While hunting the giants is certainly risky and demanding work, a single good-sized carcass can fuel a town for months.
Also, they claim territory around the Scientorium or whatever, in order to support a larger population of non-farmers. The Pakkadian empire is stretched thin enough already, so they let them exist in exchange for yearly tribute.

Being relatively evil in nature the Horka Borks are the favored prey of the Dreamons however it often takes tens sometimes even hundreds of dreamons to burrow into a horka bork and even more to make it so that they may act against their kind, this resistance to the dreamon can be attributed to the indomitable will of the giants and their nigh inexhaustible life force however this resistance does not extend to the newborns of the horkas thus the children that suffer nightmares are often killed and promptly eaten.

Meanwhile the Portsmiths have made permanent towns and villages north of the dwellings whilst Porter son of Portmouth began wandering to the south making contact with the dwellings though he nearly came close to starting a war with them when he tried to eat them for he thought them to be animals rather than sentient beings.

While the Gneeps' telekinesis is more dexterous and precise than the hands of any of the planet's inhabitants, it is still limited both in strength and in the scale on which it operates. Due to this, the Gneeps start making tools both for interaction with bigger objects and more ways to interact with smaller objects. The first tools they develop are shovel-like implements for moving heavy loads and blades with which to carve their symbols and dissect food.

While the main Pakkadian force was on the east half of the continent, one of the squads left to patrol the country's borders grew curious about the contents of the cavern. They ventured into the ruined city, and there, as they heard a scraping noise and turned towards the sound's source, they were given two revelations:
Good news: the city is still inhabited.
Bad news: the inhabitants are NOT dwellings.
Towards them, a half-dead...THING was dragging itself across the floor on one of it's three still intact limbs. The creature was nothing like anything The Pakkadians saw before, with a body that, if not for extreme damage, would be almost conical in shape, with the wider side turned up, four limbs placed around it radially, each a long, almost flat segmented tentacle with wormlike fingers at the end. Atop it's body was perched a "head", a bright red, semi-transparent octahedron with no visible face. It's body and limbs looked like they were made of solid gold. It dragged behind itself a bunch of organs that obviously should be inside it's body in normal conditions. All of it's organs were made of glass.

The Jams living in Gnepia are by nature more opportunistic and greedy than the main species due to living in a cold desert for a long time, and as such when rumors come to them that the Dwellings are in possession of a golden sphere sought by many other nations, the Jams start thinking about the profit they would get if they stole the sphere and sold it to whoever offers the most money.
>>
>>1078718
The wizards decide to steal the golden sphere just for shits and jiggles. Because they are wizards. They don't do logical reasons.
>>
As it is widely known, the further a rumor spreads the less true it gets. As such, when the rumors of the golden sphere reached the Horka Bork, it was presented as a powerful artifact strong enough to destroy even the Horka Bork forefather. This gave the Horka Borks hope, and they sent a squad to the main continent to acquire the sphere for themselves.

As the poorly coordinated, unarmored elves are suffering casualties to the better equipped and trained Pakkadian soldiers, Erebong employs his last resort: the superweapon. As a blast of magical energy disintegrates everything including the elves in 20 kilometer radius around the gate, a new property of the gate is discovered: while it can't be pushed by a physical object, it can be pushed by a magical object. As the gate descends underwater under the pressure of a huge ball of magic, it's equivalent on the west part of the continent begins flooding both Pakkadia and the Scientarium.
>>
>>1080213
The western portal is actually placed kinda low so it couldn't have flooded pakkadia, it would've probably made a giant sea delta around the scientarium

Quite possible. The Cave Skruckers are a vile species. Subsisting mostly on the numerous blind giant rats and Deep Bears, they oftentimes are also found ambushing lone Dwellings and adventurers foolish enough to venture through the undearground systems alone. They go for the head first, piercing through the skull and sucking out the brainmatter inside. They then wait for the body to slowly die off before they feast on the corpse.

The God-Emperor-Down-Below is dead! Long live the God-Emperor-Down-Below!

The GEDB, Lizardman the 22nd, suddenly passed away during mysterious cirumstances. A new GEDB was quickly elected from among the Godly Emperors. Chosen was one of from a Warrior family, previous godly emperor of Bobbylonia. Now called Ulrok the 13th, she has promised to make the GDB great again! This includes the complete expulsion of other races (mostly merchants) visiting the cities of GDB, especially Teselli. Only legal Psumerians i.e. Pabyssinians are nowmore allowed to make trade with the GDB.

Second, she announces that none, not even the order, is allowed to experiment/come close to the golden sphere. While the order are allowed to give the explosives to the scribes researching it, it is the Dwellings who will be the ones to open it.

>>1080213
>>1080777

The Dwellings proceed at an attempt to drive the directionless Pakkadian army into the western sea, before they move their attention to the threat of the Horks and Elves in the north

0-1: Absolute failure, the Pakkadians manage to somehow rally and the combined armies of the GDB are forced to retread to Teselli and underground.

2: Somehow the elven army shows up and hinders the GDB armies, sparing the Pakkadians from seriously losses and allowing them to fight another day.

3: The GDB succeeds, the Pakkadians suffer minor deaths, but far larger casualties. 2/3 of the army arrives tired and beaten on the inner sea's western shoreline. Some are taken as captives by the Dwellings.

4. The Pakkadians are defeated, similar to above but 1/2 of them arrive and no prisoners are taken. The Ooga Boogas capture some trying to cross the sea.

5-6: It was actually the elven army that managed to get at the Pakkadians first. Many are slaughtered, Many more are captured and taken to become slaves. A few live to tell the tale once they reach Pakkadia.

they made their new home south of the pure elf coalition, on the landbridge. also isn't there supposed to be a kingdom south of there of the neo-somethings, you know those who were against he pakkadian senate or something.

also does anyone have an idea about how big the giants are in the north? it said that one could light a town for a whole month, but I dont know how much fat they have, how many houses there are to be lighted in a town and how long fat takes to burn.

also for op: I think you/we should make the new thread a bit friendlier for new people, maybe make a encyclopedia of all the races/places.
>>
>>1080915
No, the Neo-Senkiduists live on top of the GDB.
>>
>>1080915
The giants of the north usually get bigger the older they are, a newborn Horka Bork(the giant) is around 5 meters tall, a teen is around 20 meters and the average adult is 50 meters.
The fat comprises a big part of their body because they need to protect themselves from the cold.
I'd say a lamp made from their fat would last for almost two days but your opinion may differ.

Within months Hundreds of Horkas both young and old sailed to the shores of the mainland accompanied by the legion of stone, an army of horka borks Clad in armor crafted from the stones of the mountains themselves, went off in search of the golden weapon. Meanwhile the Slavenbor grieved the loss of his youngest son and fell into a deep melancholy whilst his eldest Horkaslavia was filled with rage proclaimed that she will find the knaves that had killed his brother. Horkaslavia against the wishes of her mother donned the golden armor and took her father's sword then went off to the mainland in search of the murderers or at the very least the find the body.

After returning to Pakkadia, the soldiers who have explored the cavern are discovered to have a strange mental ailment: every 5 days they acquire an insatiable appetite for Pakkadian flesh. This desire appears only in short bursts and never lasts for more than ten seconds, but can appear multiple time per day. The mental illness is contagious, As anyone bitten by an infected also start to show these peculiar culinary preferences every five days. The infected will try to eat any Pakkadian flesh when under the affect, including their own if there are no other Pakkadians around.

A small group of Urpeans feel that they do not use the gift of Cordyspark to do as much good as it is capable of. They steal a ship and a large supply of the fungus, and sail towards the Order of Knowledge's new island. Once they explain there purpose and show the effects of the trance entered after eating purified Cordycep, the Order decides to welcome them and begin raising it for their own use. It quickly becomes standard for almost all meals served inside of the Scientarium to have at least some added in order to improve mental flexibility and inferential ability. However, they also discover the reason the Urpeans failed to use this increased intelligence: the fungus also causes apathy and lethargy at the same rate as it raises insightfulness. The drug is carefully rationed, with lower-level members only taking enough to give them an edge. Higher-level researchers, however, are almost constantly in a deep trance, only interacting with the outside world when their attendants feed them or prompt them for the knowledge they have gained.

Not know what to do with the Pakkadian captives and not wanting to keep them in their underground domains, the Dwellings gift the captives to the Pabyssinians.

The Governor of Pagdala is most amused by this, at first bursting out laughing when he sees his ideological rivals kneeling on the floor infront of him. Then he gets an idea, these men could be useful...

What does he do with them?

The wizards decide to have some fun and transmutate one of the buildings composing the Scientarium( with people still inside, of course) into a work of modern art. Nobody's quite sure what exactly it's supposed to resemble, looking more like a schizophrenic's wet dream than a normal statue, but the statue has "passing the torch" written in some magical language that to anyone perceiving it looks like one of the languages they do know, so everyone just decides to call it that.

The sociologists have discovered a bizarre trend among the infected: they will always try to have at least 1.5 cubic meters of gold, 1 cubic meter of glass and 1 cubic meter of saltwater in their house. The desire to acquire these substances overpowers the desire to acquire things needed to continue living, and quite often an infected will go out to get food and return with jewelry. The cause of this behaviour is unknown.

The Dwellings have mounted the explosives on the sphere, but as they go off, the golden face opens both it's eyes and it's mouth. Out of them comes incredibly bright, blinding light. All Dwellings exposed to the light.are plagued by a strange illness, which they have no name but we will call it radiation-induced cancer. However, the experiment also wielded good results:
The door is now open.
None have ventured inside yet, but research has discovered a property so far not seen by the Dwellings in an object so advanced: complete lack of a magical signature.
