The time has come to choose your path, child. Your father has finally passed from his wounds, and you have laid him to rest alongside your mother. May they find peace amongst the gods. But the life of a trapper is no life for a young man, and the country is large and full of mystery. The lodge will remain while you go on your adventure, and you have a long road ahead of you. Your first stop has been Hensleigh, the nearest village, to get the supplies you will need for the journey. Aeribis is not as safe as it once was, and bandits roam the countryside looking for easy prey. You may not be a great warrior, but a dangerous look will ward off the wary.

But first, child, tell us your name, and what direction you would like to go for your first steps.

The town of Hensleigh is quiet today, as it is many days, young Godwin. Most of the men are out in the fields working, and the women are doing what they can around town. Not many to give you odd looks, but that doesn't stop children from pointing and staring at you.

map critique:
>city in the desert, with a mountain range seperating it from water
>cities in the literal middle of a forest with no farmable land around them
>cities in the mountains
>a castle in the mountains, far away from anything of significance
>mountains don't seem to separate biomes enough

tectonics seem to work out, so do the rivers

Beginning your journey, the roads south were poorly maintained, at best. What were once well kept highways were now barely gravel and dirt, grass growing up through the cracks in the road. Dark clouds were coming in from the east, heralding rain if luck did not hold out. As the days began to drag on, there was more traffic as travelers were coming up from the south with metals and minerals, on their way to Garbon. It was during his walk past a caravan of carts and wagons that an ambush was sprung, nearly a dozen armed highwaymen leaping from the brush. Their own guards were already on the move, only six of them to protect against the robbers. Of course, they weren't paying much mind to Godwin, far more interested in the gold and steel the merchants were carrying than the wandering waif.

As the battle begins in earnest and the first begin to fall, it comes time to choose how you will attack. You have plenty of weapons at your disposal, to be sure, but time is of the essence!
Of the twelve, only eight are currently engaged in combat with the guards. The other four are already underway ransacking the carts for valuables and pushing defenseless civilians out of the way. While not completely clueless, they are somewhat caught up with their current tasks and are mostly unaware of him. Some of the more timid workers have already run off into the woods to hide and wait out the battle.
Formulate a plan of attack, and roll a 1d100.
>Draw your sword and enter the fray, aiding the outnumbered guards.
>Draw your bow and pick off the unsuspecting warriors.
>Draw your sword and defend the goods from the bandits raiding the cart.
>Draw your bow and pick off the bandits raiding the carts.
>Formulate your own plan of attack.

They were easy targets, and with two arrows, two men were felled. And it quickly proved that the guards were both better trained and disciplined than the bandits, three highwaymen dropping to the ground. But what they lacked in training, they made up for in tenacity, bringing two guards down with them as revenge. Noticing their numbers quickly dwindling, those pillaging coins and steel began filling their pockets and preparing to run. Two guards were already fast approaching, leaving the other pair to deal last of the bandits. But it was unlikely they'd be able to catch and recover all of them on their own.
>Continue shooting down the last of the warriors.
>Turn your attention to those fleeing the fray.
>Take the time to take some money of your own while everyone is distracted.
>The battle is all but won, continue on your way.

Despite earlier success, it is clear that perhaps you aren't the best shot, as your next few go wide. Thankfully, the guards can handle themselves and easily dispatch the last combatants. Of the four who ran, two were caught and cut down without mercy, but the last of them escape with their money and steel. As the guards toss the bodies off the road and gather up what valuables they can to cover up losses, one approaches you and thanks you for your intervention. "I am sure that we would have been fine on our own, but thank you nonetheless. Here," he adds, fishing out some coins and handing it to you. "I'm sure that the boss won't notice a few extra missing with all the excitement. Speaking off, it seems that we've got two new openings, and you're not too shabby in a fight. If you're interested, might try asking to join, at least until we hit Garbon."
>Inquire about the work.
>Decline and be on your way south.
>See if the highwaymen had anything worth taking, and head on your way.
>Wait around a while to see about swiping any more goods before going on south.
