These things are off limits though across the web, for questionably good reasons.

They say it is to limit violence, but I believe that understanding the weapons

Are you talking about explosives? Making a gun is kindergarten tier. You get to learn how to make explosives and drugs at any decent university. Besides it's the practical part that's hard not the theoretical. And neither of it is off-limits, but googling "how to make explosive" or "how to make meth" will get you on list and probably a visit from the feds.
