Gamergate really fucked over the entire Internet. It gave an organization to the various forms of cancer that hadn't bunched together. The US presidential election caused outsiders to see these cancer groupings as possible ways to push a political agenda and this is where we are today, an Internet where these groups have been given the most tools to push agendas on people who don't care either way.

Yeh, I get what you're saying, but (using historical analogies) that's like saying World War One's division of the Ottoman Empire destroyed the Middle East, which is true, but really that was just the stepping stone to what effects us today, namely terrorism and general instability which were caused by the leftovers revolutionaries who didn't move on from the cold war.
The legacy of Chanology effects the site as it created the mentalities we see today in activist fags, but the people we see behind most of the activism on 4chan are the leftovers from GamerGate who didn't move on and still have the mission to change the minds of the many.
Lately my findings in the happening thread have confirmed this to be pretty true.
