What's the biggest flaw of a katana?
>>1539529
its not folded 1001 times

Shit's brittle cause it's made from shit japanese ore. Not that it matters anyway given that it was only used in muh duels and cutting down insolent peasants. The weapons of war were the yari and the bow.

This, and that it's purely a cutting weapon, even the shitty leather/wood armor was good enough because it had no penetration or force.
It can't do shit against cavalry in full armor and halberds.

Fun channel
A skilled fencer would wipe the floor against a person using a katana in a duel, thrust weapons completely dominate in every kind of melee fight.
The spears is the ultimate weapon.
The blade would break after two or three battles, shit was harder to maintain than a Ferrari.

this isn't dark souls 3 pre-patch. go away.

Not if someone is wearing armor and has a shield.
The polearms dominated because of reach, not all polearms were spears, you're not going to do a lot of damage against someone in armor with a thrust weapon.

Shitty Japanese steel so it took 9,001 hours to forge out the impurities

It has a poor weight/length ratio. European swords with similar mass were usually either significantly longer or designed to deliver a heavy impact to split/crush helmets. Katana are still pretty good swords, though.

Leather armor was used for a relatively brief period before iron armor became commonplace. It was generally inferior to European armor, but still decent enough.
Despite what you might think, katana aren't too bad for thrusting and might conceivably be able to breach armor when used in that fashion, though it would obviously still be less than ideal for that task.

The Romans had a lot of success marching right into Greek phalanxes and hacking them up with gladii. Spears are good weapons, but they are not ideal in every situation.

What weapons samurai used depends heavily on the time period. They appear to have made heavy use of the katana during one of the invasions of Korea, and Japanese swordsmen were apparently impressive/successful enough that Korea began training swordsmen for their own military afterwards. Swords are not just decoration; they are good weapons. There is a reason they were used by so many different cultures.
Samurai also made very heavy use of matchlock guns, which should be included in a list of their "weapons of war."
