Where do the files get saved? I was never a fan of the "Post from URL" option because it appears to save the images somewhere else.

From what I've read of the 4chanX code it would save it into virtual memory, but not hard storage.
I believe it uses a similar way of getting image data from offsite sources as advertisements do.

Though if I'm wrong, please correct.

I can't tell if the 4chan X dev guy is here or not. If not, he might be able to help make improvements.

From the userscript's perspective, it's just fetching a chunk of data, not saving it anywhere. Now behind the scenes, it's entirely possible that anything you download could be written to disk cache by your browser, and anything you have in memory could be swapped to disk by your OS. But neither of these is permanent.
