Started a few month ago but lost motivation doing it on my own.
So I tried to register for a course but the only beginner course with a reasonable price in my area was full.

That's just how 本 is pronounced when it's the second kanji in a word sometimes (actually not too often according to jisho.org). It's like how Rin × Hanayo is referred to as RinPana.

Protip for those who like bitmap fonts
Because IPAMonaPGothic has smaller than average latin characters but normal sized Japanese characters, if you set 4chan to use it at 16px size you almost get the best of both worlds with close to 4chans default font size for english and the default font size for Japanese on 2channel/futaba

は indicates a topic, while を indicates a direct object. They have other uses too (は can be used emphatically or contrastively, and を can indicate the location where a movement verb like 走る takes place), but this usage in particular can be (non-literally) translated to English in the same way.
