Do mods have any accountability? I understand on boards like /b/ they are pretty much left to their own discretion outside of shit just no shit like CP, but in the other boards like /vg/ for example where there are clear cut rules, the enforcement of said rules seems arbitrary at best. Is the moderation team literally just a bunch of people that do whatever?
I always wondered but I keep forgetting to ask, image related just reminded me.
>>1471782
>Do mods have any accountability?
Doubtful. A few years back I got partial control of several mods' accounts and did whatever I wanted for several months without anyone noticing (and to this day I'm not sure if they noticed the compromise or just improved their web security).
Did you report it?
I reported this: http://desuarchive.org/a/thread/160074435/#160074435
Got deleted
>>1471792
>Did you report it?
Yes, actually. In all honestly I frequent the Destiny General, and I report on average about ten to fifteen posts per thread, all the ones that don't say anything other than "I wanna fcc X's tight boipucci" or "Muh autism" etc... Any blatantly obvious shitposting. And on average they don't get deleted, they will pretty much only get deleted if its accompanied by a NSFW image.
You spend some days in /dg/ and it feels so blatantly obvious that most shitposting is either done by a mod or approved by it.
The worst part is /dg/ was started to have an area to repeatedly discuss games free of randomness and shitposting of /v/, but now its just /v/ with forced thread titles.
>>1471792
I will add to my post here >>1471797 I did notice mods are more active and care more about the rules in places like /a/ and /m/.
Not so much in the videogame related boards.
Not to say they're flawless, I don't know everything they do, but from what I've seen they objectively seem to do a much better job in comparison.
/vg/ is a great example of >>1456142
As a whole, no.
>Remember: The use of 4chan is a privilege, not a right. The 4chan moderation team reserves the right to revoke access and remove content for any reason without notice.
>>1471782
Also, if you want to complain to the mods about their decisions, here's now. That said, I would advise against arguing that they're inconsistent; they know and don't care.
>>1471908
That is understandable when its applied in moderation (pun not intended). If the mods will just do as they please then there is no need for rules in the first place. And what good are the rules that will not be inforced?
>>1471902
And I've noticed you can pretty much tell when a mod knows he's fucking up because they'll ban you just below the appeal limit so you can't call them out on their bullshit.
>>1471916
>Also, if you want to complain to the mods about their decisions,
I don't. Bans are insignificant, if I really didn't want to deal with the ban I could just change my router's mac and renew my IP. I just genuinely wondered if they had oversight. I understand its not a paid position, but still you'd expect a certain degree of competence. Sometimes it feels like the only way you can become a 4chan mod is if you're either underage or you exclusively shitpost in /b/.
>>1471963
This all seems to be from age of moot. Does chinamoot even give two chits about the chan?
>>1471979
He doesn't seem to, and from what I heard, it was the same way on 2ch.
>>1471805
Probably because the users are better at reporting and ignoring
>>1471984
Well that blows. I guess after 13 years on 4chan its time to move on, doesn't seem like there's a way to fix it since the owner doesn't give a fuck and there's no mod vetting of any kind.
Just blows that there's no real alternative, anonymous sites seem to invite power abusing mods.
>>1472008
They are?
>>1472014
Sorry bro, I'm not quite sure what you're asking me.
>>1471782
"[Moderators] don't even owe you quality moderation" — A quote from our good friend who forgot his capcode on /q/, our beloved, >>>/rules/global/8 enforcing moderator, MQrB8x2X?
>>1472107
Its fucking disgusting. 4chan is too much of a shithole recently, Reddit was too much of a hugbox. There's nowhere to just relax and be yourself any more, everywhere you have to pretend, in one place you have to pretend you're a dipshit and in the other you have to pretend you're a bleeding vagina.
>>1472200
there's always discord
>>1472202
>Voice chat.
H-heh.. yeah t-theres always t-that.
>>1471782
i want to talk to this anon and try to cheer him up
>>1472000
There are alternatives, but you go (or stay) on 4chan for speed. If you don't already use other imageboards at least once in a while I don't know what to tell you.
>>1472207
most discord channels are actually just like IRC rooms with more images, memes, shitposting and retards
is really rwby allowed in /a/?
I heard it's literally deviantart
>>1472236
Somebody was butthurt enough to make this image.
>>1472239
but I have a point /co/ shit should stay in /co/ntainment and not go anywhere else
When you see a thread going unmoderated, that's because there's nobody there to moderate it. The moderators were originally moot's childhood friends, but as 4chan has grown, moot hasn't made any more childhood friends, and several of the existing ones have left. Hiro hasn't bothered replacing them.
Your best bet is to go on /sp/ just after a janitor recruitment drive; everyone goes into maximum overpolice and they just ban everyone for no reason. It's bullshit. The only way 4chan will be good is if we all agree to stop shitposting, because if we want to shitpost, there is literally nobody here who can stop us.
niggers lol
>>1472212
>botnet
lol fuck off shitcord
>>1472300
you're posting on a botnet right now
>>1471782
I hear some generals have a janitor/mod bias(attention exclusively towards it), plus I remember a while ago someone got burnt out and nuked anything and everyone from /vg/ entirely that the manager had to step in. Remember generals are a low effort thread in a exclusive low effort board with low effort posts, they tend to not want any part of that mess.
>>1471782
Banning underages like it was done in the OP is more important than banning shitposters
>>1471782
>Do mods have any accountability?
Nope!
>>1471782
>Do mods have any accountability?
No. There's no transparency either. Mods are free to ban anyone that criticises them. It doesn't matter if the anon that is giving the criticism genuinely cares for the site and wishes to see improvement, or if they are just some asshole spamming abuse, they get banned the same. The only people mods have to answer to is themselves.
>>1473117
Wasn't banned for underage though. It was literally just banned because a mod didn't like his shitposting getting overshadowed by someone else's shitposting.
Earlier in the game's life cycle same general had a tripfag, any criticism of whom resulted in the person being critical getting deleted and banned, that was literally the only moderation happening in the general, all shitposting was ignored.
>>1473328
I wish there was a pre-made list of offenses that we could choose from when submitting the report. So many misunderstandings would be avoided and I think the reporting system would dramatically improve.
>>1473384
Or at least a comment window.
>>1473395
no because people would use that to shitpost
>>1473437
Holy shit that's more toxic than underage cs admins.
>lol I ban u bcoz u kill me 3 tiems in row.
>
>>1474042
good post
>>1471979
When is the last time Hiro even posted using his trip?
>>1474154
Some time late last year he had a question session or some shit if I remember right.
