Is it possible for two strings to map to the same tripcode?
>>1462375
You can input unicode characters into the field so maybe since that adds another billion or so odd possibilities?
is it possible that having this image on your computer should make you question what kind of person you have become?

Theoretically yes.
Practically no.
I'm not an expert though.
>>1462375
Yes but its exceedingly rare
Yes, any hashing function whose output is fixed in size and accepts inputs larger than its inputs will produce collisions.

>>1462541
Yes because I sometimes masturbate to po-ju's stuff but other yaoi doesn't excite me. That's because I'm focusing on the art, situation and details instead of the dicks.

Tripcodes only hash the first eight characters. So I think the answer to OP's question is no.
>>1463183
Interesting, but you haven't proven that the tripcode hash function does not have any fixed points.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crypt_(C)#Traditional_DES-based_scheme
>In detail, the user's password is truncated to eight characters, and those are coerced down to only 7-bits each; this forms the 56-bit DES key. That key is then used to encrypt an all-bits-zero block, and then the ciphertext is encrypted again with the same key, and so on for a total of 25 DES encryptions.
That would imply a 56-bit input and 64-bit output. But the tripcode drops the first character of the base64-encoded output, leaving only 58 bits. And most significant bits of the first two characters, while ignored by crypt(), can affect the salt used, because they sometimes change which character you get from the step
>Replace any characters outside of range '.' to 'z' with '.'
>>1463357
So the output space is slightly larger than the input space. We can't prove that there most be non-trivial [*] collisions from the pigeonhole principle, but it is very likely.
[*] I call a collision "trivial" if it is caused by trimming the input to 8 characters or ignoring the most significant bits.

Yes.
I remember Meriken showing some of the collisions he had.
I can't seem to find the posts, though.
I have tripcodes that say the same thing but don't have exactly the same capitalization.

Is there a way to determine the hash function for secure trips and stuff?

>>1477576
brute force
>>1477576
Hidden salt, so no. Can't pigeonhole it because we don't know the kind of hash it uses nor the output size in bits.
>>1477853
The old source leak has the details on the hash function:
https://gist.github.com/shanehou/11252285#file-4chan-php-L1924
>>1477867
If I remember correctly, they changed the secure tripcode hasing function after that. Maybe just the salt.
>>1462541
But traps aren't gay.
>>1477869
The format didn't change, only the values, so at the time I assumed it was a salt change, but looking at the code (it trims the string), it could have just have easily been a hash change with the final string size remaining the same.
List of tripcodes showing the change:
http://pageoftext.com/PH_show_page&nm_page=secure_tripcode_dictionary&nm_rev=3
http://pageoftext.com/PH_show_page&nm_page=secure_tripcode_dictionary&nm_rev=4
Eventually we switched to not showing both tripcode and secure tripcode -- not sure why. But I don't think the tripcodes changed at that later point.
