The email field made more sense for Japanese BBS and imageboards, since at that time even young peeps were all about メール

Now i think theyre mostly on LINE instead. I mostly remember email field for when anons talked and wanted to give game keys/invites, or were collaborating on some anon project that had some half hearted effort put in for 2 months before they all fucked off and added it to the abandoned 4chan project scrapheap.
