Relationship or friendzone; your opinion?

So a qt3.1416 asked me if we could 'go out' this weekend, while shes in our hometown. 21 years of completely being ignored by girls, I'm not prepared for this. What do you do on a date? Is 'going out' the same as going out on a date? Because she said we should 'go out to eat sometime', and now is saying shes coming over a couple of days so we could 'go out'. I'm afraid to ask is its just us or her friends come along too because it might be implied? How long do dates last? Should I bring up the topic of romantic involvement on a first date, or is that too fast? I really like talking to her and don't want a misunderstanding/awkward situation to ruin our friendship.
