Is 4chan really worse today than it was, say, 8 years ago?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Is 4chan really worse today than it was, say, 8 years ago?
>>
Sure, in some ways.
>>
I unironically think it's better, and I've been here forever. There were a few years that were truly dull and horrible.
>>
>>1454883
Was the humor better if you take it in isolation, without context, and analyze it as its own thing as compared to today?
No.

Was the site more fun and the humor better when taken in context to the overall atmosphere and attitude of the users back then?
Absolutely.
>>
Yeah but we're all biased, I think the majority take how /b/ is and apply it to the entire site though because they're all former /b/tards.
>>
started browsing in 2011, but I will forever feel like a newfag. after marathoning moot's final QA session I feel strangely nostalgic even though I wasn't here for 90% of the things he mentioned..
>>
>>1454883
Absolutely. No fucking question. Never been more cancerous and the mods have never cared less.
>>
>>1454896
>I unironically think it's better
Why can't you just say "genuinely" or "I think it's better"? I've been meaning to ask this question to someone. Why does it have to be "unironic" to share a real opinion?
>>
>>1455183
Sometimes, when people express an unpopular opinion, others will assume that they're being ironic, or trolling, or memeing, or shitposting. The word "ironic" is added to clarify that this is not the case.
>>
It is much, much worse, but it became so at the same time as most things in society, i.e. since 2009. This is practically a consensus, and many have fled various things that used to be good which is why the opposition is not massive and it's been allowed to continue for long enough that it's considered "4chan culture" by fools. The site still had quality in small moments occasionally when new moot took over, but at this point the user base is alien to people like us.

>>455183
He's acting a fool. Ironic became a buzzword that isn't even used correctly, so the ones desperate to fit in started speaking as if not being "ironic" is the exception. There are literally shitty images explaining how we're in the "ironic" age of memes. Which is nonsense. The real reason he used the word is over-reliance on his or her surroundings for vocabulary, which goes back to the desperation to fit in.
>>
>>1455274
Not really. I stand by my initial statement. The last year has been more entertaining by far than the endless, mind-numbing identical threads that were posted daily after the cancer became malignant. How /b/ looks to people today is how it already looked to me in 2009.

Then again I love /pol/, which is a minority opinion here.

The last year has seen /pol/ become completely overrun by newfags.
I went over there earlier and just started hiding shit threads, and when i was done there were none left.
I miss the magic, /b/ is dead, neo-/v/ is a shadow of it's former self, and now /newpol/ has been taken by cancer too.
At least /a/ and /f/ still persist, they're my only root in sanity.

>>
Yes, it is.
>>
>>1454883
Yes. /b/ always leaked onto the other boards to some degree, but that leak has turned into a full-on deluge. Most mods don't care anymore, and why should they? The users certainly don't. In fact, they welcome and embrace the /b/tardation on the rest of the site.

In the early days, the rest of 4chan hated /b/. moot himself called it the "short bus circle jerk." We didn't care how hilarious they thought their cliches were, it wasn't tolerated. Look at most boards now, though. Actual content and discussion take a distant back seat to "dank" and "ebin" memes. And rather than telling them to go back to their shithole board, it is defended. "Board culture" they call it, and anyone who objects is labeled a "newfag" and told to "lurk moar." Oh, the irony.

I wonder where it will be in 8 years.

I think different boards go through different good times. I used to post on /sp/ all the time, but it just got boring so I stopped and moved to /g/ in the hope of finding a job. I found a job, and now I spend almost all my time on /g/, but it's already starting to get boring too. I have visited /qa/ on and off since its creation, but it became unusable a few months ago and has only recently become tolerable again. Meanwhile, /pol/ is better than everyone says, but it's still shit, and /b/ is just irrelevant now.

This is always true and why you should take all board generalization opinions with a grain of salt. One thing to also consider is that You as a poster can single-handily improve a board noticeably with positive contributions.
>>
>>1458750
This is >>1458479 speaking.

I've always known that, and a year ago I ramped up efforts to try to save the site.

A true confederacy of dunces rose in response, in a sea of unoriginal content. The spirit of the site is fading. Someone or other must've sold us out.
>>
>>1458754
Saving the site is quite the big dream, but doing your part is more than enough. People come and go for boards given the time, including you, which is the beauty of this place for exploring new areas you might find better enjoyment in.
>>
>>1456503
>anyone who objects is labeled a "newfag" and told to "lurk moar."
What boards do you post on, I may see the two used every six months, if that.
Normalfag, too - it got replaced with that stupid other word and people seem to relish in using it as if it's some kind of status symbol even though it has even entered usage outside of the imageboard sphere.
>>
>>1456503
Hi, fellow oldfag, how are you doing ?
>>
>>1458745
Mods and janitors are the reason /sp/ went to shit. Apparently the mods hated /sp/'s "bar room" mentality and culture and wanted it purged. There was never a reason given, even in the IRC logs they never backed up why they hated /sp/ other than talking about their bar chat culture. The mod yournamehere was the one who really hated /sp/ and was personally behind it all. Most of the old /sp/artans fled to 76chan, which is where the true /sp/ is now at.

I've been on 4chan since 2005. I'm such an oldfag I'm almost ashamed to still be posting here still, after 12 fucking years.

>>1455293
>How /b/ looks to people today is how it already looked to me in 2009
>I love /pol/

The /b/ of 2017 doesn't look like the /b/ of 2009 to me. Yeah, it's still got the porn and the gore and other "shocking" stuff, but there's nothing funny going on there or any funny memes being created there. /b/ started really going to shit after that "Chanology" fuckery, with protesting Scientology and whatnot. Before that, /b/ stuck to trolling and organically creating memes. Too many Anons took Chanology (and themselves) way too seriously and cultivated this retarded image of Anonymous as being some shadowy hacktivist collective. It was retarded, and to this day, you still have dipshits running Twitter and Facebook accounts acting like the public face of Anonymous, Hacktivists for Social Justice.

After Chanology, /b/ went on a years-long decline in posting quality. Newfags fagged the place up, and it became nothing more than a board for 14 year olds who bragged to their friends about being a part of "Anonymous."

As a /b/ oldfag, I eventually migrated to /pol/. From conversing from other oldfags who were on /b/ in the good old days, it seems quite a few oldfags who still post on 4chan also migrated to /pol/. So, it's not surprising that /pol/ has become the dominant board on 4chan, thanks to its creative memery and IRL trolling antics.

Unfortunately /pol/ has been inundated with newfags and shills ever since Hillary's infamous anti-Alt-Right speech back in September of 2016, and many of them are STILL shitting up the board.

>/b/ always leaked onto the other boards to some degree, but that leak has turned into a full-on deluge
>In the early days, the rest of 4chan hated /b/

Do people on other boards really hate /b/ that much? I constantly see people shitting on "/pol/tards" and telling anyone who makes off-color remarks to "go back to /pol/". I see it on almost every board I visit: /tv/, /g/, /mu/, etc.

It seems like /pol/ leaks onto other boards quite a bit, and some on those boards really don't appreciate it. It definitely reminds me of the old days when people would tell "/b/tards" to "fuck off back to /b/."
>>
People have always said that 4chan is as bad as it's ever been. In 8 years it will be dumbasses claiming to have been here forever saying that they miss 2017 4chan. It's active stupidity.
>>
It's always good when certain people are here and it's always shit when certain people are here.
>>
>>1459893
I think the /pol/ thing is two-fold.

First, people are indoctrinated with leftist ideology to the point that they can't stand even the slightest hint of something that doesn't fit that ideology. So anyone who expresses an opinion leaning towards the right is told to go back to /pol/, since, in their eyes, no one could possibly disagree with their leftist views, it can only be a troll from /pol/.

Second, /pol/ themselves made the mistake of letting /b/ mentality run amok on their board. There should be nothing wrong with being politically incorrect in and of itself. But they let the trolls and memeshitters go unchallenged, and now the board is permanently tainted by them, so much so, in fact, that, in effect, they've become a new version of /b/.

I would like nothing more than to engage in politically incorrect discussion, but /pol/ has little to offer aside from trolls, frogposters, meme'ers meme'ing ebin memes, and other /b/-esque retardation.
>>
>>1459914
/pol/ spent ages claiming everyone left of center was from tumblr or reddit before the entire rest of 4chan got fed up with their shit and decided they needed to fuck off back to /pol/.

It's a new /b/ simply because it's the board newfags call home the most these days.

And I'm not buying that indoctrination thing, one doesn't have to be on the left side of the political spectrum to despise /pol/tards shitting up threads on other boards with muh joos and assorted /pol/ talk.
