You're right yet again anon!
In order of importance:
1. Persistence.
2. Friends lists.
3. Not requiring the command line.
4. Image embedding and hosting.
Any single one of these would have been a material improvement over IRC. All of them together blows it away. The only real remaining reasons to use IRC are:
1. Not wanting to rely on a centralized service.
2. Not wanting to use proprietary software.
3. Not wanting to deal with the retarded children who use Discord.
Easier to set up and use.
I use discord exclusively after I had primarily used steam.
First off, the main reason I use discord or steam is because avatars are a very very important part of IM and IRC completely lacks any kind of avatar or even unicode in the names. It's just unacceptable really.
A friend on discord told me a day ago that some new IRCv3 thing was coming up and it sounds like they're trying to compete with discord now.
IRCv3:
- avatars
- text formatting
- unicode/emoji support in text and names
IRCv3 really does sound appealing but then on discord, we do have voice channels and it handles uploading pictures really well so I don't see me making a switch anytime soon.
gross discordteen

Unless you have custom shit in your aliases list, all you mainly use is /join, /leave, and /quit. Maybe /ns nickserv (nick) (password) if you're a dumbass who doesn't have that set to run on launch. I feel really bad for people who feel that those three commands are too difficult to remember and use.

Let's say I want to make a channel, make sure I have permanent ownership, nominate a couple half-ops, ensure that only registered nicks have voice, and set the channel to be secret. To do that in IRC I need to look up a guide; I don't remember these flags. I'm pretty sure in Discord this would take about ten seconds of navigating an easy-to-use UI.
>>1448064
Because they're too dumb to use irc.
So instead they fall for the shiny and easy to use chat service designed to data mine their behavior.
