Entertainment will continue to be soulless as long as we live in a capitalist system. Very rarely does genuine and innovative material actually gain success, since the market favors things which are tried-and-true instead of doing anything risky.
Just look at how every single blockbuster getting released this year is either some shitty comic-book hero movie or a soulless sequel.

I think my first sentence should make it clear that I acknowledge that this has been an issue for a long time.
And I'm not saying that what Hollywood releases is always garbage, the new Mad Max could easily be summed up as a watered-down attempt to profit from an older
established series by filling it with action and CGI, the thing is that it destroyed everyone's expectations by how great it was and quickly became one of my personal favorite movies.
